GravatarIt's Phila's world.

We just fuck around in it.

GravatarIf they gave Chomsky an op-ed column I might then seem them as more tolerant.

GravatarLiberal bloggers had been up in arms over the move, which Kristol said, in an interview with Politico.com, gave him some pleasure.

Yup. There's that deep-seated maturity we all so admire in the right wing.

I don't know much about Andrew Rosenthal, but his old man was a Clenis-hater (and a Molly Ivins hater).

GravatarKristol wants to prosecute the NYT and we're the ones that are intolerant????????????

Patriots do get the calls don't they?

GravatarIn what way did FOX oust Ron Paul?

Gravatarfrom an earlier thread, Sulzberger should resign.

GravatarWell, okay, Phila, if you hafta. Life's been kinda sucky lately anyway. Can you just give me the long weekend first?

GravatarLiberal bloggers had been up in arms over the move, which Kristol said, in an interview with Politico.com, gave him some pleasure.

Then Mr. Kristol joined Mr. Rosenthal in wanking off to pictures of slaughtered Iraqi children.
~

GravatarI was just talking to my mom about this. Liebrlz hate free speech because they don't want the most official news outlets in the country pushing people whose only qualifications are being paid propagandists who lie about everything and want to bring down our democracy.

I agree with spo cko on this point - it's not about free speech, it's not about defending their right to lie, it's about trying to stop people who are destroying our country from being given larger and larger platforms from which to broadcast outright lies.

GravatarI think the Giants are approaching their high-water mark tonight.

GravatarPatriots do get the calls don't they?

Mike Carey is one of the better NFL refs. He's definitely the best at explaining the penalties called.

GravatarLiberal bloggers had been up in arms over the move, which Kristol said, in an interview with Politico.com, gave him some pleasure.

“The idea that The New York Times is giving voice to a guy who is a serious, respected conservative intellectual — and somehow that’s a bad thing,” Rosenthal added. “How intolerant is that?”

Seriously, right now the only appropriate response I can come up with is "FUCK. YOU." Damn this weird fear and intolerance of mine!

Gravatar[Jawbone, I replied downthread.]

Gravatar"My plan is to cut off 100 Atriots' heads"

make it easier to rip out my throat, huh?

GravatarAnytime these assholes are called on their bullshit, the people calling them on it are "intolerant".

More projection from the right.

GravatarAnd if people don't like seeing Kristol on their TV's, he's going to be there more and more, given the imprimatur of a NYT op-ed column.

GravatarThat's why if the Giants are smart, they'll get their starters out by the third quarter. After all, they have a playoff game next week.

GravatarDoes Kristol have the love of a good woman? Does she make him moan at night? He, her?

Does he have children who look up to him and love him?

That would be intolerant, if that was the sort of person you had hired, nit. However we are talking about Kristol here so your comment is entirely irrelevant.

Navy JAG resigns over superior's refusal to call waterboarding torture, even if used against US soldiers.

The final straw for me was listening to General Hartmann, the highest-ranking military lawyer in charge of the military commissions, testify that he refused to say that waterboarding captured U.S. soldiers by Iranian operatives would be torture.

His testimony had just sold all the soldiers and sailors at risk of capture and subsequent torture down the river. Indeed, he would not rule out waterboarding as torture when done by the United States and indeed felt evidence obtained by such methods could be used in future trials.

Thank you, General Hartmann, for finally admitting the United States is now part of a long tradition of torturers going back to the Inquisition.

GravatarI am also starting to suspect the Giants are not big fans of the Patriots.

Doesn't matter that it's the Patriots per se. The Giants may be pissed that they're a sideline to the story, and they'd love to rewrite it.

Gravatar Kristol suggested that the paper should face charges, on Fox News in 2006, after its big banking records scoop: "I think it is an open question whether the Times itself should be prosecuted for this totally gratuitous revealing of an ongoing secret classified program that is part of the war on terror.”

Yep, Ron Paul is doubly on my shit list now.

GravatarHee, I'm still amazed how the intertubes can lead ya places ya never would expect to go.

While watching a bit of the football game, I googled the Gumble brothers. One of the things I came up with was when Bryant Gumbel called Robert Knight of the Family Research Council a "fucking idiot". Got 'ol Brent Bozell in a tizzy that one did. (Only thing wrong was Bryant should have used the plural for the whole FRC)

Anyway that led me to the Media Research Center, another Bozell storefront, and their just posted Worst Liberal Quotes of 2007.

Down next to last, they got a quote from Dan Rather on Bill Maher's show.

Only thing is, they call the show "HBO's Politically Incorrect". Now, seems to me, Maher's show on ABC was called "Politically Incorrect", while his show on HBO is "Real Time".

Duh, what kind of research does the Media Research Center do, besides pulling things out of KJLo's ass?

Well, the nets can still surprise me, that's good.

I TOTALLY disagree. Giving more Americans the chance to read the reasoned and well-written words of Digby would be a feather in the cap to the New York Times. THey might even pad their Pulitzer Winnings. And it would draw an entirely new audience (intelligent, well-read people) to their newspaper.

Gravatar"I'm going *where*?!???"-- the first words Dear Leader says in the next world. He should hope there isn't one.

GravatarOne of the better History Channels shows, Digging for the Truth, had an episode on Ghenghis Khan that asserted that if you live in (or had an ancestor from) one of the areas where the Mongol empire extended, you have a 1 in 8 chance that you're descended from the Khan. Apparently his sons believed in personally repopulating the areas they devastated.

I had a Tartar great-grandmother, so I figure my chances of descent from him are reasonably good, for what it's worth.

GravatargIANTS CENTER injured on freak play.

GravatarSpeaking of Mongolian, for an interesting read, check out the New Yorker's article on the sacking of Baghdad by the Mongols back in 1218.

There's a good In Our Time on the BBC site dealing with Ghengis (pronounce it: Ching-is) Khan. Spinning the map 90 degrees and thinking about the grand westward sweep of the steppes is a great way to re-evaluate the world.

GravatarI had a Tartar great-grandmother, so I figure my chances of descent from him are reasonably good, for what it's worth.

Sex tartare?

GravatarPrior, to answer your implied question, the Giants are playing well, at least offensively. They had a really good first drive, including a 52 yard pass from Eli to Burress. They got their other TD on a kickoff return (helped by a ticky-tack "group celebration penalty" against NE after Moss caught a TD pass).

Now the Giants center got hurt -- he's done.

GravatarLosing a center hurts.

GravatarAlso, the Giants need to have a sustained drive or two to keep their defense from running out of gas.

GravatarThe strategy Democratic prezidential candidates have taken of downplaying the Iraq war and advocating "sensible" proposals for it, is so beyond stupid that it defies non-conspiratorial explanation.

GravatarThe 13th century saw such a vogue of Mongol things in the West that many new-born children in Italy were named after Mongol rulers, including Hulagu: names such as Can Grande ("Great Khan"), Alaone (Hulagu), Argone (Arghun) or Cassano (Ghazan) are recorded.[27]

GravatarThe Mongol Empire was limited by size in an age of limited communication technology (although they did their best with relays of riders -- anticipating the Pony Express -- or copying the Persian Empire -- depending on your prejudices) -- also their military technology of all cavalry armies was logistically hampered by the move into increasingly rugged & forested terrain (i.e., Western Europe as was) -- apropos of nothing -- one of Genghis (or Jinghiz) Khan's wives was a Nestorian Christian (the Prior of St. Meinrad Archabbey said I know more stuff that won't make you money than anyone he knows -- doesn't know Sinfonian of course -- except that he made money ...)

Well, it may not hold up, but you gotta admit: Eli looks damned good.

And, not to be paranoid, there have been some awfully strange calls that favored the Patriots thus far: the poke in the eye that was ignored, the interference in the end zone that was not called, and in the Patriots' first TD drive, the "inappropriate contact" that gave the Pats a first down when they would have been 4th and 12 on their own 35 or so.

I think the league wants the Pats to have a perfect season, and the refs know it.

Yet.

GravatarIt seems quite natural for the "liberal" New York Times to hire Kristol.

All in all, the so-called "liberal" Times is run by Jewish closet-neocons that have done nothing these past seven years but enable Bush Administration neocon policies--burying the story on illegal wiretapping, not covering the story about Bush's mysterious debate box on his back, Judith Miller's lies and the Times covering up for her with respect to Plamegate . . . . and on, an on , an on.

Arthur Sulzberger is a neocon. He subscribes to the neocon agenda. For all we know, he has been fellating Kristol behind closed doors for years.

So, now it all finally comes out in the open.

A world in which Victor Davis Hanson is considered a historian is a very sad world indeed.

GravatarThe NYTimes jumped the shark sometime in the early 90's--when they would not look into actual facts which refuted their Whitewater narrative.

They finally apologized to Wen Ho Lee, but never to the Clintons.

They have some good reporters, some good reporting--when they allow it to make it into print, not hide bad news for the ReThugs.

I can't imagine what it's like to be a reporter on the Times who wants to do real journalism. Must be tough. Same, maybe worse, with WaPo.

GravatarWashington Post - Managed by slightly trained chimpanzees?

The only people enthusiastic about Bush's "new" position on global warming has been the media and possibly his mother. Maybe Laura. He has made no serious changes at all and continues to only give lip service to the issue. So what if he said in Bali he would start to negotiate on a plan? Big deal since he will be gone before the deal is even close to being finished. Bush still refuses to accept any firm numbers and did what he does with everything difficult, which is to push it out to the next president. Only fools like the Washington Post could eat this up. And to think that they are losing money and readers. Gosh, go figure.

GravatarImagine people withholding the dollar and a quarter daily and the four bucks on Sunday.
This considerable amount of cash would add up very quickly and put to say a 527 account.

GravatarDunkin Atrios-Donut saying "we're not intolerant" is like Goebbels saying "we don't do propaganda."

GravatarYes, Mr. Rosenthal, we on the left are intolerant, especially all of us patriotic American citizens on the left who are intolerant of neo-conservative neo-Fascists like Bill Kristol, who co-founded the Project for a Neo-Fascist American Century.

Hey, I'm certain that's what the "N" in PNAC really stands for, especially after 7 disastrous years of Bush/Cheney and 6 disastrous years of a Republican-controlled Congress. Authoritarian. Totalitarian. Monopolistic. Fascist. Anti-U.S. Constitution. Anti-Bill of Rights. Anti-democracy. Anti-American. Greedy. Soulless. Rat Bastards. With Bill Kristol being one of the biggest neo-Fascist rat bastards of all.

But I guess the New York Times wants to be called the Faux News of the print media.

Hell, Mr. Rosenthal, why didn't you just hire Mr. Ann Coulter? Ooops, shouldn't give him ideas, although I predict that as soon as fellow neo-Fascist Rupert Murdoch completes his extreme makeover of the Wall Street Journal into a Washington Times clone, Mr. Ann Coulter will probably be running a venomous op-ed for dear Rupert over at the once-great WSJ. Then, Mr. Rosenthal, you can get into a bidding war over Mr. Coulter, giving you and dear, but insane Rupert an opportunity to see who can drive away the most subscribers from your PNAC propaganda news outlets.

Ahhh, fair and balanced just doesn't mean what it used to mean, once certain people take truth, honesty and integrity out of fair and balanced.

GravatarRosenthal's remarks are way past hilarious.

He hires a conservative movement political hack and refers to him as serious and respected.

If Rosenthal, as editorial page editor of the nation's paper of record, is this vacant then what the hell does that tell us about the quality of intellectual "leadership" in this country.

Gravatar"Pam Atlas would bring a fresh perspective to our viewers"-NYT

GravatarThe NY Times could have given that op-ed spot to Atrios and chose not to.

I guess it's because Andy Rosenthal is "intolerant."
