Gravataroh well, at least I beat TKK and mer.

GravatarFUCK THE GOP

Gravatar(realizes he does not worship Bruce Springsteen.)

GravatarLeibniz, is the beatification of Timmy ongoing?

GravatarOld Man, I'm guessing you're doing well this morning...you're not working

GravatarDeal with this, Dumbya and Huggy Bear:

GravatarYa, great article, but as a mixed race Merkin myself, the title made me wince. Some editor at the Nation needs to spend a few days in Alabama to understand the power of oppression associated with the word "boy'.

"Chicago Boys" was a reference to this.

GravatarNo. MSNBC's live coverage has ended. It's "Viva,Viagra!" now.

Gravatarsallyh-

someone on the last thread compared it to the somber music for days on Russian radio after the death of a high level Kremlin apparatchik. And Russert was an apparatchik of the first order.

GravatarHabeas Corpus: Infuriating Conservatives since 1215.
The Old Man From Scene 24

Why do Republicans hate us for our freedoms?

GravatarMcCain ads.

From Atrios

Gravatarplantsman, another good reason to keep the TV off.

GravatarOld Man, I'm guessing you're doing well this morning...you're not working

I don't remember the last time I worked on a weekend!

Actually its time for me to visit my second favorite brewpub and get some supplies for the weekend.

Gravatar oh well, at least I beat TKK and mer.

GravatarIf McCain wants to pay Atrios out of campaign funds, I'm good with it.

GravatarWe just reviewed trailers and have decided to go see "Young At Heart" tonight. Senior citizens performing rock and roll.

Just thought you'd all like to know.

GravatarLooks like Stephen King Day on Scifi.

Rats, no liveblogging from 4Legs and me.

We need some new material, dammit.

GravatarOops. Last night's Brokaw Timmeh-fest is on now.

GravatarI wonder who will host Press the Meat, now.

GravatarFaux News isn't thinking that Obama will lose, instead the pressure is for Obama so he will listen up and toe the line. (which seems likely, anyway)

GravatarWeisman wasn't the first reporter to use the "just kidding" defense after inappropriately and baselessly linking Obama to a controversial figure. CNN commentator Jeff Greenfield (now with CBS) compared Obama's tendency to wear shirts with open collars to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's preferred style of dress. When criticized by, among others, Columbia Journalism Review, Greenfield claimed he had been kidding, that he meant the commentary as a "patently absurd parody of muddled political thinking" and lashed out at his critics.

HUMORLESS LIBERALS!

GravatarGromit, we seem to be reaching an age where we can start relating to the term 'senior citizen.'

GravatarFrom an earlier thread because you damn East Coasters wake up so early:

Often it's quite hard to figure out just where various bits of wingnuttery comes from. Dick Cheney got his from George Will. From which orifice did Will get it?
From an unnamed source at Blair House

GravatarWhy did Des Moines put up a sand barrier? In my formative years in the backyard sandbox, I learned that sand barriers were really neat if you wanted massive destruction.

Gravatargallup wants us to believe that the current mood in america is obama 46%, mcbomb 43%.

bwahahahaha is all i have to say on that...

Gravatardead-threaded:

Shit. My friend wants $350 for the puppy I was gonna get, and she never even brought up paying for it for at least two weeks ... well after my kids met the puppy and got used to the idea of having one.

So now I'm between a rock and a hard place. Pay money I can't afford or break my kids' hearts. Or lose a friend. Or some combination thereof. Shit.

GravatarDeal with this, Dumbya and Huggy Bear:

Dunno about McCain, but I think W has officially checked out for the duration. Can't seem to rouse himself to do anything other than say the same old shit about the same old things.

GravatarMP, I want CoT to take the anchor seat.

GravatarWhy did Des Moines put up a sand barrier?

It's all they had.

Gravatar Why did Des Moines put up a sand barrier?

I blame Attaturk.

GravatarLeibniz, I'm guessing that as a youngster, engaging in mass destruction was a preferred activity

Gravatarsinfonian,

we just had that discussion in our house. two of our three dogs have been pound alumni.
take your kids there, they can pick out there own puppy.

GravatarRegarding Huggy Bear ads, if this is the best d00d can do, it's gotta suck to be him.

GravatarBut journalists need to do more than understand the intent and effect of false rumors pushed by the right. They need to understand how their own reporting and commentary have similar effects, regardless of their intent. They need to understand that they have a responsibility that goes beyond being careful not to spread (intentionally or otherwise) these bogus right-wing themes; they also have a responsibility to aggressively report the truth. There is a broad smear campaign being waged against Barack Obama, and it is long past time for the media to expose and debunk those smears, not play into them.

But they aren't trained to do that.

GravatarPay it AND tell "friend" she should have made the price plain beforehand.

GravatarIt's all they had.
plantsman, | Homepage | 06.14.08 - 12:09 pm | #

See? We'll have full employment in our senior years, filling up sandbags to protect rich folks' properties. It'll be at gunpoint, but they will feed us.

GravatarSinfonian, got PayPal?

We could do the pass the hat thing.

Gravatarwe just had that discussion in our house. two of our three dogs have been pound alumni.
take your kids there, they can pick out there own puppy.
peterboy

Well, that might be an alternative. Thanks.

Gravatar Pay money I can't afford or break my kids' hearts

Pay the money. Dogs last over 10 years, a good investment. And children will never forget that you didn't get them that dog. If it's because of money, even worse.

We could take up a collection...

GravatarWashington Post reporter Jonathan Weisman responded to a question referencing the possibility of "Osama blowing up the Sears Tower" by writing, "How about Obama blowing up the Sears Tower! I never liked that building anyway." Weisman did add, "Just kidding, folks."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA-urk

[aneurysm]

GravatarSorry about puppygate, Sinfonian. The kids have to learn that there are limits or else they will grow up to be Republicans.

GravatarSo now I'm between a rock and a hard place. Pay money I can't afford or break my kids' hearts. Or lose a friend. Or some combination thereof. Shit.

Ouch, Sinf. But I think you've gotta follow through and hope for the best. $350 is not that much compared to the other costs of pet ownership.

Gravatarand tell your friend you decided you wanted to save a dog that otherwise was going to be put to sleep.

GravatarVirginia, imagine if a Dem said that.

Republicans: not funny.

GravatarI like how media matters is pretending that it's not valid to ask if Obama has terrorist connections.. even though members of the Democratic Party aren't sure if he does or not!

http://www.politico.com/blogs/ jo...m_persists.html

Fred Hobbs, a [Tennessee] Democratic Party executive committee member representing part of [Rep. Lincoln] Davis’ district, said he understands why Davis is not endorsing Obama and is “skeptical” of the Illinois senator himself.

“Maybe [it’s] the same reason I don’t want to — I don’t exactly approve of a lot of the things he stands for and I’m not sure we know enough about him,” Hobbs said when asked why he thought Davis wasn’t endorsing Obama. “He’s got some bad connections, and he may be terrorist connected for all I can tell. It sounds kind of like he may be.”

We know nothing about B. Hussein Obama, except that he is hilariously underqualified to be President. We don't even know if he's connected with terrorist groups, as some members of the Democrat Party are willing to admit. We owe it to the country to have a full investigation before the election, and if B. Hussein Obama has nothing to hide he'll agree to it.

GravatarThe ending of last night's battlestar could have been better with distant wolf calls on the soundtrack.

Gravatarfrom below - the rudeness and lack of service on us airlines is not universal, but it's obvious that the corps do not care at all.

some of the airline employees are actively hostile, most seem just despirited and hopeless, and the few who try seem beleagured.

GravatarProud to say that the local fishwrap put the floods in Iowa on the front page, and relegated the teebee bobblehead to the fourth page.

GravatarHate, Spite and Hard-Heartedness. GOP Family Values.

Gravatarhey folks, there are just too many fine puppies waiting for homes at the pounds. I love a good fine breed dog--my first was yellow lab 30 years ago, but the pound dogs who followed were just as wonderful and one was a full-bread abandoned shepherd. the other half dobie half lab; and he was a genius.

GravatarSux, Sinf. No chance of going on a game show any time soon?

Gravatarsallyh-

Why assume anything has changed?

GravatarNot much of a friend, the way it was handled. Tell the kids you were fostering the puppy to see how a dog would fit into their lives. Then take them to the pound. They'll fall in love with the new puppy too.

Just tell your friend no.

Gravatargallup wants us to believe that the current mood in america is obama 46%, mcbomb 43%.

bwahahahaha is all i have to say on that...
fokowi

Well, if Gallup sez that you know it's pretty much in the can. The two were trading the lead back anbd forth before. Now it's oscillating between tied and Obama being up 7.

GravatarYou can take this as a clear sign that this was not meant to be. Save a puppy who has no chance in life. It'll make you and the kids feel really good.

GravatarFlight Attendants have been giving back salary and bennies to several carriers for years in contract negotiations. They have every reason to be dispirited.

GravatarSince this election is ALL ABOUT PREJUDICE, I wish savvy journalists would start having regular features on the accomplisments of black people, and accomplishments of black people that affect all colors of people.

This is an opportunity. Instead, all we get are these veiled coded jabs, and polling results puzzlingly lower than we expect.

Gravatarsinf,

That ain't no friend, or at least one that's kind a clueless on the hearts of kids.

GravatarYo! American Chickenshit!

Still waiting for that MOS report, coward.

GravatarI like the pound idea as an alternative. But be careful, as our dog is a rescue dog (obtained as a puppy) and somewhat psychotic.

If you have not read Marley and Me, this would be a great time to read it aloud with your kids. Seriously. It's a wonderful book and a great introduction to the realities of life with a dog.

But you gotta get a dog at this point. Otherwise your daughter will be throwing this back in your face in 15 years when she gets out of rehab. And you wouldn't want that.

GravatarApprentice to Darth, that reminds me, I should take a look at our local fishwrap. Since we're a media driven city, it wouldn't shock me if Timmy was on the front page. I hope they at least relegate him to the Calendar section, where entertainment news resides.

GravatarFoser is so consistently good. I wish he could get on tv.

GravatarWhat's up with McCain's terrorist connections? Are they fundraising for him internationally?

GravatarThat ain't no friend, or at least one that's kind a clueless on the hearts of kids.
bo

But keenly mindful of a buck. Save a puppy, Sinf.

Gravatarthat post from media matters is tres depressing.
can americans be that easily duped?

(hey, dont answer that.)

goopers got nothing but trash and lies this time around. plus the 22% who want to preserve their cheap capital gains and dividend bonus payments from the Iraqi war pro-rich policy.

GravatarSinfonian, got PayPal?

We could do the pass the hat thing.
Sallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere

Oh, that's very nice, thanks, but I'm not going to ask my friends to help me pay for a puppy.

I'd better wait until I'm hospitalized or something to hit you people up for cash.

Seriously, thank you.

GravatarThen take them to the pound. They'll fall in love with the new puppy too.

Just tell your friend no.
lurker

This gets my vote. Sorry, friend; I just can't go three-fitty right now.

And mixed breed doggies is good people! And you'll be saving a life!

Alternatively you might see if there's a breed rescue down there that has a (probably adult) dog you can help.

Winneta-winneta-winneta.

GravatarWe have a former shelter pup, too. He farts a lot and ate 3/4 of a large pizza last week, but he is a great addition to the family.

GravatarMany pound dogs have better temperaments than pure-bred dogs.

GravatarSince this election is ALL ABOUT PREJUDICE, I wish savvy journalists would start having regular features on the accomplisments of black people, and accomplishments of black people that affect all colors of people.

There's only so many stories you can do about affirmative action and model prisoners.

GravatarWhat's up with McCain's terrorist connections? Are they fundraising for him internationally?

That's where the money is. Also the guns and drugs

GravatarYour friend is basically blackmailing you emotionally, and your kids. Maybe not intentionally, and she probably doesn't think the money will be a hardship. But you should've been told up-front.

It's not really a biggie, and not a friendship killer, but don't fall for the manipulation. Just move on.

GravatarI wonder who will host Press the Meat, now.

It's the perfect new slot for her to flounder in!

Gravatarsinfonian-

On the one hand I understand your frustration. OTOH, there are many many abandoned dogs out there that desperately need homes. Explain the reality to your kids and take them to see potential pets at the pound. Turn this into a "teaching moment" as they say.

GravatarBut you gotta get a dog at this point. Otherwise your daughter will be throwing this back in your face in 15 years when she gets out of rehab. And you wouldn't want that.

So that was our problem! We didn't get a dog until Mlle was 12

GravatarSo now I'm between a rock and a hard place. Pay money I can't afford or break my kids' hearts. Or lose a friend. Or some combination thereof. Shit.

Why can't you tell the friend that you hadn't expected to pay for the dog and certainly hadn't budgeted $350?

GravatarMy friend wants $350 for the puppy I was gonna get, and she never even
brought up paying for it for at least two weeks ... well after my kids met the puppy and got used to the idea of having one.

A) - NOT a friend.
B) - Kids! Now that we understand about having a doggie, we're going to: http://www.rcall.org/index2.html

C) - Rescue groups and no-kill shelters will be ur best friends 4evah!

GravatarDogs anal glands can be "expressed" by vets to cut down on the stink.

GravatarI favor the pound pup. They're the best.

GravatarFor the record, I've gone the pound puppy route once before, unsuccessfully (she had distemper), but I'm not averse to doing it again. I only agreed to take this dog as a favor to my friend, but I do know the importance of saving dogs at shelters. I definitely will consider that, thanks.

GravatarHecate, Foser would be a refreshing change from Timmy on Press the Meat

GravatarThere's not much you can do about racists in denial.

Gravatar I only agreed to take this dog as a favor to my friend

So remind her of that. Why not just be honest with the friend?

GravatarWhy can't you tell the friend that you hadn't expected to pay for the dog and certainly hadn't budgeted $350?
Apostate

That's what I did.

In fact, I called her just now, as soon as I got her message, and she was crying because one of the other puppies (the one she was going to keep) has pneumonia and she can't afford to do all the treatment.

So I didn't bring it up on the phone. But I e-mailed her and said essentially that.

I imagine we'll negotiate and figure something out. Fact is, I've bonded with this dog already, too.

GravatarI only agreed to take this dog as a favor

Sheesh, what's next? She agrees to let you paint her house if you pay her a grand?

GravatarWe owe it to the country to have a full investigation before the election, and if B. Hussein Obama has nothing to hide he'll agree to it.
American Hawk

bring it on. My guess is, he'd "investigate up" just fine.

and while I'm at it, your ignorant (bigotted) attitude is appalling. Please list each one of your allegations with and explain why they should be taken seriously... if YOU want to be taken seriously.

GravatarI only agreed to take this dog as a favor to my friend,

It's a tad strange that you're doing a favor and being asked to pay $350 to do it.

GravatarEspaña!

GravatarPlease list each one of your allegations with and explain why they should be taken seriously... if YOU want to be taken seriously.

He can start with telling us what his MOS was during his purported service in the 'Nam.

Still waiting on that...

GravatarIf she can't afford to treat a puppy for pneumonia, she ethically should not be running her puppy mill. Or she could be making up stuff to play on your heart strings.

GravatarI imagine we'll negotiate and figure something out. Fact is, I've bonded with this dog already, too.

That sounds good, then.

GravatarNow, if I end up keeping this original puppy, please don't condemn me for not getting a pound puppy. I'm not going through a puppy mill and in a sense I'm saving a puppy who might not otherwise have a home.

GravatarYeah, I vote pound, too. And the "fostering" story is kosher by me.

GravatarThis is no friend, if the pups are sick and she can't afford the vet....

GravatarI think a thorough investigation of McCain's collaboration with the North Vietnamese is in order. Clearly, he may have been brainwashed.

GravatarSinfonian

Didn't you keep these puppies for awhile? If kids are already attached, negotiate the price down for your kennel/babysitting services.

GravatarThe McCainian Candidate

GravatarSinf, We'll certainly understand whatever you do. Bonding is important and not to be neglected.

GravatarNow, if I end up keeping this original puppy, please don't condemn me for not getting a pound puppy. I'm not going through a puppy mill and in a sense I'm saving a puppy who might not otherwise have a home.

i did my own polling and gallup is whacked.

in fact, i've often thought about running for political office, so recently i asked a dozen people if they would vote for me. 8 said they would, and 4 said they would not. encouraged by this, i've decided to take another poll, only this time outside of my immediate family...

GravatarWhen I was born, these clowns I lived with tried to make me into a 'fighting' dog - such nonsense.  Ended up breaking my eye, a lot of really unpleasant interaction, not enough dinner - the usual.  They threw me out.

But - www.aawl.org found me!  And then, the tall, Two-Legs showed up!

Couldn't have done it without them.

And these aren't my allegations; a leader IN YOUR OWN PARTY is honest enough to admit that B. Hussein Obama has unknown connections that may be terroristic. Given the wide variety of unsavory characters in his past, this is no surprise.

I'm shocked that anyone outside of Des Moines knows this because it's clearly not as important as the ongoing Timmeh beautification.

My former co-worker's dad is a Col. in the Air Force-attorney or something. In college he visited the ancestral homland-Italy-and brought back a Italian Communist Party poster. A couple of days after he got back his dad got a phone call from higher ups wonder why his son was bringing back communist propaganda (this was 199.

GravatarIt's not a puppy mill.

I log onto The Daily Puppy site every day.

I hate puppy mills, but I am sick tired of people preaching at folks who (gasp!) obtained their dogs from (horrors) pet stores. These dogs are as loved as the ones rescued from shelters.

I have three dogs...two of which I rescued from the streets.

My Boston, I bought from someone whose litter had pups.

MY FIRST Boston was purchased from a pet store when he was 8 weeks ago and I lost HIM when he was 15.

Sometimes the soapbox shit gets annoying.

GravatarGiven the wide variety of unsavory characters in his past, this is no surprise.
American Hawk

Hawk, these generalities don't wash here. Please LIST the characters and his association with them. Are you thinking about Ayers?

Here's a clips from wikipedia:

...from an interview Ayers gave to the New York Times on the occasion of the memoir's publication: The reporter quoted him as saying "I don't regret setting bombs" and "I feel we didn't do enough", and, when asked if he would "do it all again" as saying "I don't want to discount the possibility."

Ayers has not denied the quotes, but he protested the interviewer's characterizations in a Letter to the Editor published September 15, 2001: "This is not a question of being misunderstood or 'taken out of context', but of deliberate distortion. Ayers has repeatedly avowed that when he said he had "no regrets" and that "we didn't do enough" he was speaking only in reference to his efforts to stop the United States from waging the Vietnam War.

Gravatarafternoon moonbats

Gravatar"Better take an umbrella, hon"

GravatarMore Ayers:

Ayers is currently a Distinguished Professor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, College of Education. His interests include teaching for social justice, urban educational reform, narrative and interpretive research, children in trouble with the law, and related issues.[22]

GravatarI foresee a HUGE drop in productivity and stock prices beginning right after Obama's inaugeration, due to millions of week-long block parties.
Mike

I have a liver on layaway.

GravatarOne last clip about Ayers:

Ayers was tapped by Chicago Mayor Richard M. As the Bush administration assessed how to respond to criticism of how the U.S. went to war in Iraq, Cheney's then-chief press aide, Cathie Martin, listed their best option as putting Cheney on "Meet the Press." Gravataroops - A Tory candidate at the next general election has apologised after he likened Italians to "greasy wops" during a live radio show.

Alun Cairns, a Welsh assembly member, made the gaffe while taking part on Radio Cymru's weekly discussion show Dau o'r Bae on Friday lunchtime.

Towards the end of the show, contributors were asked to say who they would be supporting in the Euro 2008 tournament.

One mentioned that she had written a note saying "boring" next to Sweden, and "nice flag" next to Portugal on a list of teams.

When she said she had written "nice food" next to Italy on the list, Cairns said: "I've written greasy wops."

The presenter, Vaughan Roderick, immediately invited the Tory politician to apologise, which he did, and the programme ended.

Cairns, who is described on his own website as a "conviction politician [with] a record of standing up for what he thinks is right", was said to be regretful of the comment.

GravatarAuthorities in Cairo have banned a 92-year-old Gulf Arab man from marrying a 17-year-old Egyptian girl, under laws brought in to counter the increasing number of wealthy Gulf men travelling to the impoverished Egyptian countryside to find much younger, temporary brides.

The ministry of justice invoked a law that says the age gap between spouses should not exceed 25 years, the Egyptian Al-Akhbar newspaper reported. In an indication of how prevalent such marriages are becoming, Al-Akhbar reported that 173 couples with more than 25 years between them wed last year, via a loophole in the law that allows a foreign man to take a much younger bride in exchange for depositing about $80,000 (£41,000) in the Egyptian national bank.

Sociologists say the rising number of cases of this so called "sexual tourism" is driven by the unprecedented wealth flowing into the Gulf from record breaking oil prices, set against the grinding poverty faced by families in countries like Syria and Egypt. "First it's a question of rich versus poor. These rich men use their money to buy girls from very poor families," said Huda Riza, a sociology professor at the Lebanese University. "There is also the cultural tradition in the Arab world among old men who believe having a young girl in their life can bring back their youth."

GravatarPrison Break: Afghanistan - Up to 1,000 prisoners, including 400 Taliban militants, were on the run in Kandahar last night after a dramatic Taliban assault on the southern Afghan city's main prison.

The militants blew the prison gates open with a massive truck bomb and flooded inside, attacking the guards and freeing the inmates. A jubilant Taliban spokesman said the group had deployed 30 motorcycle mounted attackers and two suicide bombers.

Ahmed Wali Karzai, brother of the president Hamid Karzai and head of Kandahar's provincial council, said that "all" the prisoners had escaped.

Authorities in Kandahar declared a state of emergency as police and soldiers swarmed across the city in an attempt to round up the fugitives.

The Taliban said the attack on the prison, the biggest in southern Afghanistan, had been in preparation for two months. "Today we succeeded," Qari Yousaf Ahmadi told the Associated Press, adding that the escapees were "are safe in town and they are going to their homes".

The first explosions were heard at 9.30pm local time when insurgents rammed a tanker truck filled with explosives into the front gate of Sarposa prison, killing several guards, said director Abdul Qadir. "All of the guards at the gate have been killed and they are under the rubble," he told Reuters a few hours later. Gunfire could be heard in the background as he spoke.

GravatarBAGHDAD — Mohammed,13, finishes his breakfast, changes his clothes and walk three kilometres, not to school or even work but to a training campaign.

Carrying a Kalashnikov assault rifle and a belt filled with bullets, he kisses his mother with a broken heart and heads for the unknown.

"I was forced to help militants to save the life of my mother and sisters," he tells IslamOnline.net with a tone full of sorrow and pain.

"I would like to be in a classroom rather than helping make bombs or training on how to use a weapon but sometimes children cannot choose their future."

Al-Qaeda and some other militant groups in war-ravaged Iraq are accused of using dozens of children to aid their attacks, sometimes under the threat of targeting their families should they refuse to cooperate.

Mohammed (not his real name) only agreed to speak on condition of anonymity, scared to be killed if his trainers knew he talked about his duties to the media.

"My father was killed by US troops on the outskirts of Ramadi two years ago and since than my mother has been struggling to bring us enough money to survive," he recalls bitterly.

"One day, five men came to our door and threatened her. They wanted me to help them in exchange for food and the rent," he added.

"If we refused, they would have killed me and my oldest sister. My mother had no chance even to think. She had to agree." What is more shocking is when children are sold to militant groups to fight with them.

"I’m unemployed and need money to survive and although he can be useful, something that he would never be with us."

Trained Bombers

Mohammed has been trained to become a suicide bomber, which he hates.

"They want us to learn how to make a bomb and how to carry it," he said.

"Like me there are dozens of other children. Some exclusively trained to be a shahid (martyr) but all of us have to learn the basic steps," he added. "I don’t want to die but when I imagine my family being killed by them, I forget all fair."

Several local NGO have sounded the alarm over the use of handicapped children for terrorism attacks, after using those with psychological disorders for the same purpose.

"Insurgents and militants are putting children with health problem in front of a crossfire where the only victim is the innocent child," charges Fae’ek Jaboury, a spokesperson for the Iraqi Human Rights Organisation (IHRO).

GravatarLONDON (AP) — The U.S. government has photographic evidence that a Guantanamo Bay inmate was tortured with a knife after being taken to Morocco by U.S. forces, a British human rights group said Tuesday.

Reprieve said their client, Binyam Mohamed, had his genitals slashed repeatedly with a doctor's scalpel while in custody in Morocco after he was flown there from Pakistan by American officials in 2002. It also said his U.S. captors later took pictures of the abuse to show authorities that his wounds were healing.

Mohamed, an Ethiopian national and former British resident, is charged by the United States with plotting with al-Qaeda to bomb American apartment buildings.

Reprieve maintains the charge is based on information coerced from Mohamed using torture.

Reprieve quoted Mohamed as saying that an American female photographed his wounds before he boarded a plane in the Moroccan city of Rabat on the night of Jan. 21, 2004.

"When she saw the injuries I had she gasped. She said: 'Oh, my God, look at that!' Then all her mates looked at what she was pointing at and I could see the shock and horror in her eyes," Mohamed was quoted as saying. "Later, when I was in Afghanistan, they took more pictures. They were treating me, and one of them explained that the photos were 'to show Washington it's healing."'

Reprieve said Mohamed's account was confirmed by an unidentified journalist it says spoke with a U.S. intelligence agent who saw the photographs. The group has urged the United States not to destroy them.

GravatarYeah, Tim Russert, I DO mean you. If Bush would have been impeached, as he should have been, and tried for war crimes, they should have arrested you as well for your guilt is no less than his.

I agree, but you have to fight them with positive images and arguments.

Just listing all the negative statements about Obama during the last week doesn't accomplish much of anything. On the contrary, someone looking for ammunition against Obama need look no further.

As the article itself says:

But humor (if you can call it that) doesn't excuse making comments like this -- indeed, it makes it more likely that the public will remember and internalize the comparisons, and that the caricatures will take hold.

The same could be said about the article itself, couldn't it?

Gravatarfor pete's sake
woke up to more russert marathon

GravatarWhen she said she had written "nice food" next to Italy on the list, Cairns said: "I've written greasy wops."
_____________________________

Wow-- my paternal grandparents were first-generation Italian immigrants, but they lived in a predominantly Irish under-class neighborhood. So my dad and his siblings had to put up with a lot of ethnic taunts and slurs when they went to the "Irish" parochial school instead of the "Italian" parochial school further away.

Of course, dad and his siblings were tough, loud, and proud, so they survived the schoolyard fights and jibes, e.g. when the municipal sanitation trucks came by, with DPW painted on the sides for "Department of Public Welfare", as it was then known, the Irish kids would jeer, "Here comes the Dago Picnic Wagon!".

But such slights do settle in. I remember being touched when my dad, not long before he retired, was examining some freshly-laundered work shirts. "We can never git the stains off from around the collar," he observed critically. Then he added, more humbly than sarcastically, "I allus figured it's because I'm a greasy wop."

Silly that this stuck in my mind; I didn't say anything about it at the time. But it made me feel bad that someone would internalize such put-downs. Hardly the Stockholm Syndrome, but mildly sad.

From a historic and linguistic perspective, it is noteworthy that the same exact phrase in use in 1920s Amerika is still in vogue today.

GravatarThe same could be said about the article itself, couldn't it? DFH in Dubrovnik

These hate-filled spewfests exist because the vast majority of the country, including many reasonably decent people, are 100% unaware of their existence. As Spocko demonstrated, in many cases even their advertisers were unaware what they were paying to be associated with.

Public airing of their behavior (and the resultant shaming) is an extraordinarily powerful tool in reducing their power. Yes, having a more powerful positive message is necessary in the long run, but Media Matters and others have now shown that they can force a change in media behavior by calling them on their ongoing bullshit.

Don't forget that even Tweety had to apologize for some of his sexist stupidity. I hope Obama was paying attention to that episode.

GravatarAw, TV, this is the worst.

And yet Cheney 'lives.'

GravatarPumpkin head contributed nothing positive to his world. He thrived and made his named on divisiveness, put downs, and bloviating. And the MSM loved him.

And what happens when those who do contribute positive things to the world die? Well, let's take a look at today's NYT obit page, for example:

Dr. George E. Moore, a versatile cancer researcher who found an early association between chewing tobacco and mouth cancer while directing the Roswell Park Cancer Institute, a state-financed research center in Buffalo, died on May 19 in Evergreen, Colo. He was 88 ...

In 1954, with colleagues at Roswell Park and the University of Minnesota, Dr. Moore published a pioneering study of male patients with cancer of the mouth, reporting that a majority — 26 of 40 patients — had been tobacco chewers for significant periods of time, many for 15 years or more....

In the early 1960s, Dr. Moore and others evaluated the effectiveness of a drug in what was then a novel dual approach to fighting breast cancer, using both surgery and chemicals. ...

In 1966, Dr. Moore led a study that looked at the filter tips of nine brands of cigarettes and pronounced advertising about the effectiveness of some filters as “almost fraudulent.”

Now there is a man who contributed to society. Tim Russert was a tick on a hemorrhoid on the backside of society.

GravatarIt's hot down here today.

GravatarI don't feel the elation I did when Michael Kelly died. He's not in the same league of assholes. But I can't summon up any sympathy for Tim Russert, either. He enabled the Bush administration ever since the 2000 campaign, and he also did more than his share to drag down the state of American journalism to the National Enquirer level of standards it currently practices. When people make the world a shittier place, I can't really see it as a bad thing when they're no longer in this world. If that makes me an awful person, so be it.

GravatarA strike by hundreds of Shell tanker drivers has begun to hit fuel supply in parts of England, Wales and Scotland.

On the second day of the walkout over pay, demand for fuel was up 25% and more than 100 stations closed because of shortages, the government said.

Shell said fewer than 15% of its sites had been affected but warned continued action could have a "significant impact" on supply at forecourts.

Unions said drivers would walk out again if the dispute was not resolved.

Unite joint leader Tony Woodley told the BBC there would be another strike next weekend and, if necessary, a third strike after that.

GravatarDeep sea divers have found the wreck of a Royal Navy warship which sank during the American Revolution.

The discovery of HMS Ontario, at the bottom of one of the Great Lakes on the US-Canada border, has been hailed an "archaeological miracle".

The 22-gun, 80ft (24.4m) vessel, with an estimated 130 men on board, went down in Lake Ontario in a gale in 1780.

The ship is now being treated as a war grave and there are no plans to raise it or remove any of its artefacts.

Shipwreck enthusiasts Jim Kennard and Dan Scoville have revealed how they used side-scanning sonar and an unmanned submersible to find the ship earlier this month.

The Rail Maritime and Transport union said "100%" of its members walked out for 30 hours from 1200 BST "after months of fruitless talks".

General secretary Bob Crow said the action would have a "cumulative" effect on the rail system, but Network Rail said services had not been affected.

It accused the union of making "ridiculous" demands.

Mr Crow, who visited a picket line near Brentwood in Essex, said the strike had been "100%" supported.

"The company has turned a dispute about harmonisation into an attack on jobs and conditions," he said.

I've been playing with extreme methods of hyper-mileage driving, while enraging the other drivers on the road.

My results so far? With a 4 liter displacement Jeep Cherokee, previously without any regard for how I drove, I got somewhere between 18 MPG, to about 26 during a good week. The last two fillups I got 29 MPG one week, and 34.5 MPG the next.

The methods to accomplish this?
Check the tire air pressure frequently,

do the same engine tuneups and oil changes as normal (this beast has 226,000 miles on it so it's been taken care of somewhat well)

Drive in such a way as to never use the brakes any more than necessary, and to time your acceleration so to float through lights, with needing to change the speed much. Keep the engine rpms down as much as possible. This vehicle seems to do best around 45 mph. it will run all day at 1200, to 1600 rpm at that speed.

GravatarOne year after Hamas, the Palestinian movement, seized control of the Gaza Strip from President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah party, leaders say Palestinian unity remains an elusive dream.

Ghazi Hamad, a senior aide to Ismail Haniya, the leader of Hamas in Gaza, has acknowledged that the infighting has damaged the Palestinian cause.

"This is a catastrophe, a disaster. We have to go back to national unity," Hamad said on Saturday.

On the first anniversary of the Hamas takeover, Palestinian newspaper colunmists echoed similar sentiments, calling on leaders to settle their differences through talks.

Hussein Hijazi, a columnist with the Palestinian Al Ayam newspaper, said: "It is clear today that the sharp polarisation between the two historic forces, Hamas and Fatah, has to be resolved through democratic elections or an armed confrontation will be inevitable."

GravatarThis is the passage from "Written On The Body" that I was referring to.

"You'll get over it..."
It's the clichés that cause the trouble. To lose someone you love is to alter your life forever. The pain stop, there are new people, but the gap never closes. How could it? The particularness of someone who mattered enough to grieve over is not made anodyne by death. This hole in my heart is in the shape of you and no-one else can fit it. Why would I want them to?
I've thought a lot about death recently, the finality of it, the argument ending in mid-air. One of us hadn't finished, why did the other one go? And why without warning? Even death after long illness is without warning. The moment you had prepared for so carefully took you by storm. The troops broke through the window and snatched the body and the body is gone. The day before the Wednesday last, this time a year ago, you were here and now you're not. Why not? Death reduces us to the baffled logic of a small child. If yesterday why not today? And where are you?
Fragile creatures of a small blue planet, surrounded by light years of silent space. Do the dead find peace beyond the rattle of the world? What peace is there for us whose best love cannot return them even for a day? I raise my head to the door and think I will see you in the frame. I know it is your voice in the corridor but when I run outside the corridor is empty. There is nothing I can do that will make any difference. The last word was yours.
The fluttering in the stomach goes away and the dull waking pain. Sometimes I think of you and I feel giddy. Memory makes me lightheaded, drunk on champagne. All the things we did. And if anyone had said this was the price I would have agreed to pay it. That surprises me; that with the hurt and the mess comes a shaft of recognition. It was worth it. Live is worth it.

GravatarThinly Veiled,
So sorry. Send me your address(or call me--816-255-2749) and I'll send you some money. Yesterday was payday.

GravatarWe’ve seen in connection with the hijackers, of course, Mohamed Atta, who was the lead hijacker, did apparently travel to Prague on a number of occasions. The debates about, you know, was he there or wasn’t he there, again, it’s the intelligence business.

Liar.

There was a time when, at the end of the broadcast, the passing of some teebee personality was a brief announcment and statement of condolences at the end of a newscast.

Back when teebee news tried to be professional.

Not any more.

GravatarI’m confident that if it became necessary-if the president felt that this was the right course of action so that he instructed the military to undertake this, that the U.S. military would be enormously effective in this circumstance. And I don’t think it would be that tough a fight; that is, I don’t think there’s any question that we would prevail and we would achieve our objective. You always want to plan for the worst, though. And, clearly, we would do that.

Heh.

Gravatarbye for now

GravatarThe quotes were from MTP - 9/8/2002.

This has been another edition of Great Moments in Journalism.

Fuck you, Tim Russert.

GravatarI think Hecate got it right. The media boys had just spent a couple of weeks trying to convince us and themselves that they are not really stenographers after Scottie's book came out. This is a an opportunity at rehabilitation. Hence all the stories on what a wonderful journalist pumpkin head was.

Gravatarreading upthred. thinly veiled, you are right - need to take the mother. their issues are not as big as their needs and having lost mine to mental illness, can't tell you how important it is to have a relationship of some sort, no matter the obstacles.

so sorry for your loss.

GravatarMust make a grocery run.

Back soonish.

GravatarAvedon had a great piece on Timmeh too at http://sideshow.me.uk/

Gravatarwhy did i turn on msnbc for just a peek? Fucking Schuster reminiscing about the "trouble" (sexist hillary bashing) he got into in Feb and how Russert was the first to call him at home to say hang in there.

How on earth did I ever support John Edwards? Jesus fuck. "Russert was a reporter who seemed like someone you could trust and indeed, you did trust him." Yep John, we danced to his rhythms as he marched us into an illegal, immoral, horrible "war" and occupation.

We are in big, big fucking trouble.

GravatarYou always want to plan for the worst, though. And, clearly, we would do that.

But he said it with such gravitas! How were we to know it was bullshit?

/the media

GravatarThis is a an opportunity at rehabilitation. Hence all the stories on what a wonderful journalist pumpkin head was.

Yet he eptiomized everything that is wrong with beltway "journalism". He testified to it at the Libby trial. Under oath.

He was a highly paid stenographer, lobbing softballs at the mendacious sack of shit that is the Vice President of the United States and not moving so much as a milimeter outside his role as propagandist collaborator with a known war criminal.

GravatarI am so sorry, Thinly Veiled.

GravatarReally, guys, thanks so much for the offers, but I don't think money will be the big issue. If we don't have enough, D's family will pitch in. But you all are the best for offering. Really.

Gravatartrying to convince us and themselves that they are not really stenographers after Scottie's book came out.

I heard someone (not a regular MSNBC employee, but a newspaper guy they have on as a frequent commenter) go on at length approvingly about Timmeh's brilliant tactic of being a stenographer, all about how Timmeh didn't think it was important to challenge someone or call them out on BS, but the important thing was to get them "on the record" which *and they pat themselves on the back* we can now use to see that they were indeed lying to us about Iraq.

Sure would've been helpful if they'd pointed that out at the time, instead of just getting it on the record.

Gravatarback on topic (as if i ever go there):

FAUX News calling Michelle Obama her husband's "baby mama".

http://www.oliverwillis.com/inde...e-with-it-okay/

GravatarBut listening to [Rachel Maddow] spend the first hour of her show last night rhapsodizing about the awe and majesty of Tim Russert got pretty scary when she seemed to be admiring his ability to declare the end of the Democratic primary, to say what is. She seemed to have not a single doubt that this was a good thing, not the least worry that perhaps no single journalist should be able to make such a decision for us.

I also wasn't going to say anything about this for another day or two, because some of you do seem to be more caught up in this than I expected. But seeing the way so many people have forgotten just how much blood is on his hands, I feel forced to remind you that this man wore a Bush button behind his lapel while he helped steal the election for Bush in 2000, and this man enthusiastically supported the invasion, suppressed the truth, and encouraged the lies that have led to over a million deaths and the hollowing-out of our nation. Without Tim Russert, it is quite possible that we would not be worrying about what the Supreme Court has to say about whether or not the government of the United States of America is entitled to torture people and dismiss the right of habeas corpus.

Avedon's blog is jiggity.

Gravatarall about how Timmeh didn't think it was important to challenge someone or call them out on BS, but the important thing was to get them "on the record" which *and they pat themselves on the back* we can now use to see that they were indeed lying to us about Iraq.

Timmeh did more rehabilitating witnesses than cross-examining them. That is exactly what John Edwards described last night: Timmeh would rehabilitate the people he interviewed, not take them to task.

GravatarAs Atrios remains obsessed with non-factors like the rights continual attempt to make issues of things like fist bumps, Obama quietly consolidates his rightward move.
Why doesn't Obama have any union reps as prominent economic advisors, huh Atrios?

Naomi Klein:

Barack Obama waited just three days after Hillary Clinton pulled out of the race to declare, on CNBC, "Look. I am a pro-growth, free-market guy. I love the market."

Demonstrating that this is no mere spring fling, he has appointed 37-year-old Jason Furman to head his economic policy team. Furman is one of Wal-Mart's most prominent defenders, anointing the company a "progressive success story." On the campaign trail, Obama blasted Clinton for sitting on the Wal-Mart board and pledged, "I won't shop there." For Furman, however, it's Wal-Mart's critics who are the real threat: the "efforts to get Wal-Mart to raise its wages and benefits" are creating "collateral damage" that is "way too enormous and damaging to working people and the economy more broadly for me to sit by idly and sing 'Kum-Ba-Ya' in the interests of progressive harmony."

http://www.thenation.com/doc/200...630/klein/ print

Gravatarkid, have you rehabilited yourself?

GravatarHey Snow, maybe you can answer that?

Gravatar "Look. I am a pro-growth, free-market guy. I love the market."

What the fuck is wrong with being pro-growth and for a free market?

GravatarI heart John McCain.

GravatarElias is an asshole. But we all knew that.

GravatarI always thought the idea of a paid troll was a myth or inside joke. Yeesh, shouldn't we get better quality?

This just proves once again that Big Government Doesn't Work!

GravatarHey Snow, maybe you can answer that?

You supported someone who had union-busters on the campaign payroll. You fucking explain that, hypocrite.

GravatarTurin Brakes Dark On Fire.

GravatarTimmeh didn't think it was important to challenge someone or call them out on BS, but the important thing was to get them "on the record" which *and they pat themselves on the back* we can now use to see that they were indeed lying to us about Iraq.

It always seemed to me that Timmeh, like Tweety, developed a reputation for "tough questioning" by bullying lower-level officials and second or third tier presidential candidates.

The claws always seemed to be taken in when the Very Important People were his "guests."

GravatarElias=aggie trannie troll

GravatarHey Snow, why doesn't Obama have union reps, or consumer rights reps, as chief economic advisors?
You think having a pro-WalMart guy is the way to go?

What's your def of pro-growth, and free-market. Giving WalMart and other corps like them all the freedom they want to overdevelop and pay their employess slave wages while denying them healthcare?
Is that your platform too?

Gravatar

hey Ruth- did you see the marfa lights?

GravatarObama quietly consolidates his rightward move.

not really a surprise

on the other hand, it doesn't matter. because the alternative is this. and anyone who does not vote for obama will have blood on his hands.

GravatarHey Snow, evade the question...

Dick, keep being a Dick...

Tri, well, keep trying...

GravatarElias has convinced me.

As a lifelong Democrat, I've got no choice but to vote for McCain.

GravatarYou supported someone who had union-busters on the campaign payroll. You fucking explain that, hypocrite.
Snow (WF-SC)

Oh, after Hillary lost Elias found "the true religion."

He's now an uncompromising Trotskyist/Chomskyite Leftier-Than-Thou kinda guy.

Probably you were busy with your campaign and didn't get the memo.

GravatarI agree. Elias is right. McCain is the way to go.

Gravatar"transferring data from ssl.google-analytics" - wtf?

GravatarIs that your platform too?

Fuck you, shit stain. You know nothing about me.

So how about your continued supported for candidates who either are or hire union-busters. Seems you have a pattern a supporting such candidates. There was Saint Ralph the Union Buster and Hillary with her union-busting staff of advisers. Care to explain your hypocrisy, or would you prefer to ignore it?

Gravatar
Elias

Why do so enjoy pretending to be a woman?

GravatarDon't listen to them, Elias. You know you're right.

because the roberts court is far too liberal.

GravatarWatch as the liberals all evade the uncomfortable questions in the rarified air of their self-assured conviction that Obama is the answer...

Watch as they present the no-win, catch-22 endless, less or 2 evils argument as the only true answer to the fascist dominance of both parties.

Watch as they do nothing to change the status quo...

GravatarA McCain victory will pave the way for the Revolution!

Gravatar
Care to explain your hypocrisy, or would you prefer to ignore it?

Being a troll and nothing but, means never having to explain anything.

"Elias" is here to annoy, not to make any legitimate arguments.

GravatarOf course it's no surprise that Obama is moving to the middle. As I've said 1,987,488 times, we are the fringe and there aren't enough of us to elect Obama. Sadly, he has to gather other votes as well. We *need* to win in November.

GravatarI don't support Obama so I feel no requirement to defend him. What the fuck about you, hypocrite? If you love unions so much, why the history of supporting union-busters.

After supporting someone who sat on the Wal-Mart board, it takes some nerve to criticize someone with a Wal-Mart defender on his staff.

GravatarWatch as they do nothing to change the status quo...

we are breathlessly waiting for you solution. not your analysis - we already have that. what should we do?

what should we do?

GravatarElias is correct. We should probably just stay home.

GravatarWe should vote for McCain because--as Lenin once put it--the worse things get the better they get!

GravatarHey Snow, I said previously it was a mistake to support Hillary as an act of realpolitik.

I was seduced into thinking it would work. Little did I realize how powerful the Cult of Personality could still be...

Soon the liberals will have another "Clinton" in the White House to apologize for...

GravatarI wish Butler would stop reinforcing those stereotypes about Aggies.

I've known some real life Aggies who were not ignorant fucktarded dogshit, but Butler just insists on perpetuating that notion.

GravatarWas it a mistake to support Union-Busting Saint Ralph too?

Gravatarelias? we're still waiting for the solution.

we tried 42. it doesn't work.

That's the thing with Allen Butler. He likes to call people "hypocrites", while never ever making a positive contribution.

A worthless parasite, too cowardly to make a stand himself.

Gravatarkid, have you rehabilited yourself?
dirk gently, melancaholic

I wanna kill.

GravatarI agree. Elias is right. McCain is the way to go.

Indeed!

Obama's middle name name is "Hussein" don't you know? And he bumps fists with close friends.

He's so unAmerican he doesn't wear a flag pin in his lapel. And he's a lousy bowler.

They're checking his birth certificate even now to see if he's really an American.

And he's rumored to have fathered more than one "black" child.

GravatarIt's a beautiful day! Turn off that damn computer and go outside and play!

GravatarWonder if the tracking bracelet on Elias' ankle chafes.

GravatarNader's not a factor now.
Obama is the one on the table now.
He's the one moving right.
So you have nothing to say about it then? If not, I'll post something else you might be able to answer...

GravatarI'm going to do a write-in vote for myself -- the only candidate who shares all my values.

GravatarIt's a beautiful day! Turn off that damn computer and go outside and play!
Your Mom

Obviously Your Mom is in beautiful Track Town USA where it's sunny and in the mid 70's.

GravatarHey Snow, I said previously it was a mistake to support Hillary as an act of realpolitik.

But you droned on in support of HRC for weeks and weeks, in exactly the tone and manner that you are using now.

Which, logically, might lead some to the inference that you are not trying to contribute anything useful here.

GravatarSo you have nothing to say about it then?

Did I not just say I didn't support him?

GravatarSo you have nothing to say about it then?

i've said it three times. ok, you made your point - obama is too far right. so what should we do? seriously, i could really use a practical suggestion. just one. something that makes sense.

GravatarIt's amazing to listen to the one-note chorus.
This just simply proves day in and day out, precisely how liberals hate only one thing more than a winger.
They hate someone who calls them out as the sellouts they are.

This is fun.

GravatarMy head hurts and my chest hurts and I've no tolerance for stepping around troll shit right now. So, Go.The. Fuck. Away. You're not wanted here.

GravatarElias | Homepage | 06.14.08 - 2:33 pm |

GravatarHey Gromit, wake the fuck up.
Nothing short of pledging allegiance to Obama would gain me acceptance here.

GravatarThis is fun.

Elias |

no, it's fucking annoying and juvenile. you keep shoveling the same tired stupid shit, completely ignore what anyone else says in reply, have no actual thoughts, opinions, plans or ideas. you are a miserable putrid waste of space and skin, a complete moron whose only enjoyment comes from making people dislike you more than they already do. a whiner and a loser and a baby who can do nothing but cry for attention even if it means you have to shit your own pants in hopes someone else will have to wipe your pathetic ass.

or am i reading you wrong?

GravatarSnow, you support McCane then, right?
If we agree with the shared assumption here, anybody who doesn't support Obama by defintion supports McCane.
So why would you support McCane and call yourself a democrat?

GravatarIf there's a new way,
I'll be the first in line.

Gravatar
Elias

You might as well cut and paste from your old General Zod posts.

Always grinding the same axe.

What so hard to understand?
Simply stop supporting the Dems until they become a true alternative. Yes, it means a lot of bad things will happen. They're going to happen under either party.
So just stop supporting them and support true left/progs at a grassroots level.

GravatarNothing short of pledging allegiance to Obama would gain me acceptance here.
Elias

Butler really is one serious clueless git.

GravatarSimply stop supporting the Dems until they become a true alternative. Yes, it means a lot of bad things will happen. They're going to happen under either party.

that's your answer? really? seriously?

i was right.

you are a moron.

GravatarBTW Hillary has done that, pledged allegiance to Obama, that is.

GravatarHey Dirk, your way really works, doesn't it?
How's that single payer healthcare coming along? You ready to give it up.
Now shut the fuck up already...

Gravatarjust stop supporting them and support true left/progs at a grassroots level.

That's long-term. We don't have time for that now. John McCain will bomb Iran if elected, possibly with nukes. We don't have time to quibble about purity.

GravatarHey Dick, you're exactly the fuel the right uses to paint progressives as deluded, drug-induced, paranoid, conspiracy theorists...
Lay off the dope, brother.

GravatarHey Dave, don't go away. I'll be right back with an answer for you...

Gravatar
Simply stop supporting the Dems until they become a true alternative

This is coming from someone who spent months pretending to support Clinton.

Dishonesty is obviously Allen Butler's middle name.

GravatarThinly Veiled,

I am so sorry. This must be horrendous and I wish I had words of comfort to offer. I really do not except that my best wishes are with you and your family as you try to traverse these trying times together. Peace.

GravatarStop giving them ammunition!
Elias | Homepage | 06.14.08 - 2:43 pm | #

You should stop loading their weapons, you deluded moron. And, while you're at it, stop blowing them.

GravatarDave, you were trying to make some distinction between Obama and McCane on foreign policy, right?
Dig this:

This week's border incident -- in which a U.S. attack killed at least 10 Pakistani soldiers -- has refocused attention on Barack Obama's long-standing promise to take the War on Terror to Pakistan; or as he puts it, getting "on to the right battlefield in Afghanistan and Pakistan." In other words, Obama wants to expand the "good war" in Afghanistan by withdrawing "all combat troops" from Iraq (while leaving behind an unspecified number there to "fight al Qaeda" -- how non-combat troops are supposed to fight anybody is not clear; perhaps the gay-bashing, right-wing preachers Obama is now courting can explain this metaphysical mystery) and moving them to Afghanistan...and Pakistan. You would think this latter strategy might provoke at least a ripple of concern among progressives, but everyone seems to think it's hunky-dory -- as long as it's not Bush who is suggesting it.

But to be fair, one nationally recognized progressive leader has condemned such a move in forthright terms, describing it as:

a misguided invasion of a Muslim country that sparks new insurgencies, ties down our military, busts our budgets, increases the pool of terrorist recruits, alienates America, gives democracy a bad name, and prompts the American people to question our engagement in the world.

Yes, that junior senator from Illinois certainly knows a thing or two about --- oh, sorry. That was Obama's analysis of the stupidity of Bush's invasion of Iraq

Gravatarforgot the link.
http://www.chris-floyd.com/index...ge=0& Itemid=135

Add to that Obama's statements that go farther than either Bush or McCane in calling for an undivided Jerusalem, which is rejected by virtually the entire world community, and what exactly is the difference between them all again?
Do your homework Dave...

GravatarYes, that junior senator from Illinois certainly knows a thing or two about --- oh, sorry. That was Obama's analysis of the stupidity of Bush's invasion of Iraq
Elias | Homepage | 06.14.08 - 2:46 pm | #

Well, that's just proof that you don't understand English. Obama has never (that's NEVER) advocated invading Pakistan.

So what other lies are you going to try to sell, Asshole?

GravatarAdd to that Obama's statements that go farther than either Bush or McCane in calling for an undivided Jerusalem, which is rejected by virtually the entire world community, and what exactly is the difference between them all again?

and how, exactly, is this relevant to anything? Anything at all?

It isn't. it's just another one of your straw men for us to burn up and blow away.

GravatarHey Dick, if you laid off the dope, you would have seen that I said it was a mistake of realpolitik of which I will never do again.
Starting with Obama...

GravatarElias | Homepage | 06.14.08 - 2:49 pm | #

hey, dickhead, if you weren't always drunk on your ass when you post here, you might do more than cut and paste rightwing lies.
