I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Gravatar"Maytag [...] overhauled its pricing two years ago by thinking of prices themselves as a product, much like a dishwasher"

"I'll have the 299."

"That'll be 450, which makes 498 with tax"

I dunno... one day after the collapse of the American "civilisation", they're going to look at insanity like this and wonder if it was the lead pipes, the environmental hormones, or the constant exposure to zeta rays.

GravatarYeah, what up? This is Dr. Dre

The party's goin on.

GravatarWal-mart can on scale economies... think big consolidation, like they do!

GravatarFrist things first atrios. Markets do not set prices in oligopoly models. That is what we have today.

Globalisation and technology have allowed high level collusion to set prices.

Don't believe this? One word for ya- OPEC.

GravatarThe Free Market is neither free; nor a market. Discuss amongst yourselves.

GravatarNot true. In some cases, firms can have the ability to set their prices and prices are not necessarily set by the market.

The smaller the number of firms in the market the less chance the true market price will prevail. As economies of scale and scope are increased firms increasingly have the ability to manipulate its prices because of its expanding position in a market.

As the size of a firm increases (via mergers and acquisitions) the number of players in the market will decrease and in some cases collusion occurs where the market price is set by the firms involved in the illegal unspoken agreement.

Also government intervention can affect the ability for the market price to prevail thereby creating inefficiencies in the market.

For example, Canada’s wireless phone market has only three major players and entry into the market is nearly impossible. Most of these corporations offer similar service plans and prices are often equal.

Often start up companies attemping to enter the market offer low pricing plans, which threaten the colluded price, are purchased by one of the three major cell phone providers and prices are raised back to the colluded price.

GravatarWhat about the soldiers in Iraq who are being killed for your fellow Neo Cons who never served in the armed forces? What about the medicare cuts for the elderly?. Another thing that makes me sick is the growing Us versus them mentality. I'm also wondering whether the NeoCons actually beleave in a one party system like the Soviet Union?

GravatarRight. My storage room rental went up last month. A lot. When I asked, I was told I could switch to smaller one at much, much less - i.e., no one wanted the smaller ones. The demand was up for the bigger ones.
