And the ex hasn't been conscious now for a couple of days, my son in kinda in limbo which is why I'm trying to be there when needed.

My mom was vegetative for more than a year. One thing I did, at one point, was to tell her I was going to be OK and if she needed to go she didn't have to worry about me. Don't have any idea whether it got through.
She was breathing on her own, though. I couldn't remove the feeding tube, and didn't have to make a "pull the plug" decision. I don't know whether I could have.

Yeah; I didn't get it. They found someone with 13 years of hospice experience and I couldn't begin to compete with that.
I spoke to the person I'm friendly with (who is the person who heads the psychosocial team) and she was encouraging about a future position. I'm going to substitute teach until the end of the year and see if something opens up. If not I'll have to go to plan B (working for someone who is not them -- rats!).

VforVA, my son has said he wishes he knew what was going on in there - meaning in the shut-down father - and I've told him just to say whatever he feels will be helpful. This third party (what to say, what not to say) role is just impossible, just trying to get things better.
