Speaking of "liberal" assholes, here's everyone's favorite "PUMA":
Bravo, Connecticut Supreme Court, bravo! Thank you for recognizing the rights of our GLBT friends and family to love and marry whomever they choose.
May more states lead the way on this important issue, and may the federal government soon realize that preventing loving couples from marrying is barbaric and cruel, and unworthy of the country we aspire to be.
Which is why we should all vote for McCain/Palin - because Job One for them will be making sure "loving" GLBT couples will be allowed to marry!
I understand McCain is now getting booed by his supporters.

If you've watched the crowds at McCain/Palin stump speeches yelling out "traitor," "kill him," and "bomb Obama," when Barrack Obama's name is brought up, don't blame all this hatred on McCain and Palin alone (though they certainly have been feeding into that frenzy.) Remember what these people read and watch and listen to.
The books and speeches of Ann Coulter, who says things like "liberals are always against America. They are either traitors or idiots." Fox News broadcasters like Sean Hannity, who said; "I'll tell you who should be tortured and killed at Guantanamo: every filthy Democrat in the U.S. Congress." And the racist rants of Rush Limbaugh, "You know who deserves a posthumous Medal of Honor? James Earl Ray [the confessed assassin of Martin Luther King]. We miss you, James. Godspeed."

Beinart should read Bob Herbert this morning:
For the nitwits who vote for the man or woman they’d most like to have over for dinner, or hang out at a barbecue with, I suggest you take a look at how well your 401(k) is doing, or how easy it will be to meet the mortgage this month, or whether the college fund you’ve been trying to build for your kids is as robust as you’d like it to be.
Voters in the George W. Bush era gave the Republican Party nearly complete control of the federal government. Now the financial markets are in turmoil, top government and corporate leaders are on the verge of panic and scholars are dusting off treatises that analyzed the causes of the Great Depression.

Just as they were wrong about trickle down, conservative Republican politicians and their closest buddies in the commentariat have been wrong on one important national issue after another, from Social Security (conservatives opposed it from the start and have been trying to undermine it ever since) to Medicare (Ronald Reagan saw it as the first wave of socialism) to the environment, energy policy and global warming.
So what if the country is unrecognizable from eight years ago and not in a good way. Bush looks like me, isn't that right Peter? Isn't that right Sarah? So what if the GOP has destroyed everything they touched. What's really important is that they like Nascar and deep fried turkeys and drink the same brand of beer as me.

WASILLA, Alaska (AP) -- The camera closes in on Sarah Palin speaking to young missionaries, vowing from the pulpit to do her part to implement God's will from the governor's office.
What she didn't tell worshippers gathered at the Wasilla Assembly of God church in her hometown was that her appearance that day came courtesy of Alaskan taxpayers, who picked up the $639.50 tab for her airplane tickets and per diem fees.
An Associated Press review of the Republican vice presidential candidate's record as mayor and governor reveals her use of elected office to promote religious causes, sometimes at taxpayer expense and in ways that blur the line between church and state.

Palin has been pressing the line that people don’t really know “the real Barack Obama,” and who could make the argument better than a woman who we’ve already known for almost six weeks? Really, she’s like one of the family.
We’ve gotten so close we’ve already learned that she didn’t actually sell the plane on eBay, didn’t actually visit the troops in Iraq and didn’t really have a talk with the British ambassador. As soon as we get the Trooper thing and Alaska Independence Party thing and the tax thing figured out, she’ll be an open book.
And she’s got a point about Obama. True, he’s been campaigning for 19 months and has been interviewed by everybody from “Meet the Press” to “Men’s Health.” Which would be O.K. if we were talking about somebody from a small town rather than, as a McCain campaign co-chairman noted delicately, a “guy of the street.”
Twenty-five percent of voters say they approve of the job President Bush is doing in the White House, a record low for any president in the NEWSWEEK poll

Does Collins mention the two best-selling memoirs?

I am unconvincer that one can come up with a formula of how most Americans feel about their country. There is no question in my mind that my vision of Anmerica is qute different from that of the right wing of the Republican party. I am a card carrying member of the UCLA and subscribe to the principles of those "United for the Separatin of Church and State" and truly believe in the principles set forth in the Constitution. Unlike the 4-5 justices on the right in the current Supreme Court, I do believe that th Constitution is a living document and needs to be interperted in light of the times. So, when Governor Palin states that Senator Obama does notsee America as she does, she can include me in the group with Senator Obama.I will not put away my soap box.

Time on the Palin abuse of power report...
But the Branchflower report still makes for good reading, if only because it convincingly answers a question nobody had even thought to ask: Is the Palin administration shockingly amateurish? Yes, it is. Disturbingly so.
[...]
A harsh verdict? Consider the report's findings. Not only did people at almost every level of the Palin administration engage in repeated inappropriate contact with Walt Monegan and other high-ranking officials at the Department of Public Safety, but Monegan and his peers constantly warned these Palin disciples that the contact was inappropriate and probably unlawful. Still, the emails and calls continued — in at least one instance on recorded state trooper phone lines.
[...]
Monegan consistently emerges as the adult in these conversations, while the Palin camp displays a childish impetuousness and sense of entitlement.
Damn. Sounds like the current president.

You can change the words, but you aren't changing the substance.
This is as old as Rome, back when the Senate was elected. It's human nature, IOW. Negative ads, however you define them, work. But for every rule, there is an exception; and thanks to W. being in charge (which he insanely thinks is a good thing; I'm tellin' ya, the guy really scares me. I think Molly Ivins and those folks who told me he wasn't "that dumb," were just flat wrong!), we now have that exception.
Which is pleasant; but it's not a fundamental shift in the nature of the universe; or of politics.

When McCain campaign attacked Obama for pointing out the counterproductive nature of US forces killing Afghanis by bombing, it would have been great for the media to have asked McCain about his own bombing runs, and if he had any idea how many civilians were killed by them.

Who could this be, actually? I can't imagine being able to recognize that scintillating prose style.
He's just way too clever for us....
I must have seen simels make this comment 50 times and I am not here that often. You are wearing out your lines little old man.

Okay, and on that note, I'm off to the Big City to prepare for my traditional evening of elitist chardonnay sipping with my satanic commie buds.
Have fun, and I'll talk to you all much later ce soir, j'espere.
(Have I mentioned I'm going to Paris in two weeks?)

Did Obama Write "Dreams from My Father" ... Or Did Ayers? [Andy McCarthy]
There has been speculation about this which I've ignored, no doubt because there are enough policy reasons to oppose Barack Obama and I don't want to feed into what sounds, at first blush, like Vince Fosteresque paranoia. But I've finally read Jack Cashill's lengthy analysis in The American Thinker. It is thorough, thoughtful, and alarming — particularly his deconstruction of the text in Obama's memoir and comparison to the themes, sophistication and signature phraseology of Bill Ayers' memoir.
And the kerning was identical!

so mcinsane tried to walk back the racist hate he had inflamed.
I wonder how many calls he got from freaked out repukkkes from all over the country?
He's setting them up for a debacle! My favourite part in all this is watching the corporate press's tepid support of mchate - they'll be back with a vengance in no time -

Tucker, I know a liberal agenda when I see it, and if Obama and the dems take enough seats next month, it will be a Pelosi/Obama agenda that will at its core want to attack organized religion, promote abortion, institute mass education policies like the USSR, undercut hetero marriage - in short a bolsheveck agenda.
Y'all will mock, but Ive met liberals and this is really the agenda.
And this is why we fight.
And once people know this, you and your ilk lose.
Have a nice weekend voyeurdude.
Over and out, for DAMN sure.

An addendum. You notice that, whenever TCB ("Ol' S&S" as they call him down at the feedstore.) trots out his pathetic attempt to smear me with his "follows homeless men and videotapes them" lie, it never links to that video.
Of course, like the rest of the Bush/McCain base, veracity is not its strong suit. The concept of a troll being truthful and honest is, as they say, unpossible.

One wingnutter was claiming at ABC NEWS forum that Obama was Ayers' Manchurian candidate from childhood. McCain has been reduced to the nuts who think that communists have a weather machine which caused Katrina and all that flooding this year.
