I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarFirst and Carville's an ass!

Gravataryikes.

GravatarWow, that's never happened to me before.

GravatarTough talk, 'gator.

Gravataryou'd think it would be a bigger deal that one of the contractor companies who snooped on Obama's passport is headed by one of his national security advisers.

GravatarObama did not play the Wright issue well, and has lost his 'hope' and 'change' message.

GravatarWTF?

Gravatar“An act of betrayal,” said James Carville, an adviser to Mrs. Clinton and a friend of Mr. Clinton.

A statement worthy of a Bush acolyte.

GravatarBugs, I'm not here to answer your questions or mend your corroded moral sense. I was born white in the segregated South, yet every black person I knew was good of heart, honest and truthful and decent. It bothered me to see people forced to use separate water fountains and rest rooms, to be refused service in diners and cafes. I want that kind of stuff to end --once and for all.

GravatarI'm off to work, folks. Have fun and don't play with Bugs.

GravatarObama did not play the Wright issue well, and has lost his 'hope' and 'change' message.

You don't know WTF you are talking about. Watch yesterday's speech.

GravatarAs if we needed further confimation of Carville's assholiness.

GravatarBoy, these Clinton spokespeople just ooze class, don't they?

GravatarName:
'Cercis' derives from the Greek 'kerkis', a word for this tree. 'Siliquastrum' relates to the pods or fruits (siliqua), which have partitions.
In France this tree was known as the tree from Judaea (l'arbre de Judée), an area in the Middle-East. Some say that Judas tree is therefore a corruption of 'Judaea tree', whereas others connect it to a legend that Judas Iscariot hung himself on this tree after betraying Christ and ever since its spring flowers have been a deep rosy-red.

GravatarOur North American native Cercis are known as "Redbuds" here.

GravatarHas anybody seen the "Iraq puppy" comotion?

GravatarJR-- my informant tells me that the ships going to the Persian Gulf are stopping en route at the notably land-locked Czech Republic

Urf?

Maybe they mean airships. Is your informant really, really old?

Gravatarrootless-e,

You know, what really surprises me in all of this has been the Clinton Camp's silence on the race issue.

But that has been kind of the way it has gone this year, hasn't it?

GravatarAnd yet, if the Clinton administration had had the courage to play mafia don with their enemies on the right instead of just with Obama and anyone who supports him.....

GravatarRe: Carville

Great to see someone from inside confirm it's all about the circle-jerk Bush-type loyalty.

GravatarCarville's reaction is just one more nail in the coffin. All Hill's bunch, including Bill, are doing now is wildy flailing away.

They can't come to the realization that they were beat before they started.

Puppycide gets the public's attention.

Gravatar“An act of betrayal,” said James Carville, an adviser to Mrs. Clinton and a friend of Mr. Clinton.

“Mr. Richardson’s endorsement came right around the anniversary of the day when Judas sold out for 30 pieces of silver, so I think the timing is appropriate, if ironic,” Mr. Carville said, referring to Holy Week.

I agree. They don't understand the ground has shifted beneath them, and they are now utterly irrelevant. I don't exactly what's happening down there, but whatever it is, it's exciting as all hell.

GravatarThe callousness and inhumanity of the act WERE shocking, to me.

GravatarDr. Noor Al-Deen Al-Rubei'i, general secretary of the Scientific Research Councils, head of the Research Academy, and the well-known Iraqi scientist in the field of nuclear technology, said that the American invasion of Iraq aimed at destroying Iraq's future by assassinating and liquidating its scientists, burning its scientific volumes in the research centers, which constituted of the substance of scientific researches of 10 billion dollars.

Dr. Rubei'i added that 80% of the assassinations targeted those who worked in the universities, half of them hold the title of professor or assistant professor. He said that half of these assassinations were in Baghdad university, then Basra, Mosul, al-Mustansiriya, and that 62% of them hold a PhD, and that one third of them are specialized in sciences and medicine.
(snip)
This is proved by the fact that Iraq lost 5500 of its scientists, since the Anglo-American invasion in April 2003,the majority of them immigrated to Europe, eastern Asia, and Arab countries. The rest were assassinated. The Iraqi scientists learned the lesson. After the kidnapping of Dr. Ali Mhawish, the dean of the College of engineering in Al-Mustansiriya University, and the finding of his body. They realized that they live in an atmosphere that they never experienced since the fall of Baghdad by the Moguls, in 1258…There are other academics who received letters containing bullets. Five professors in the medical college asked for a long leaves out side Iraq because of such letters.

That's what gets me about Clinton supporters that defend their sleeze tactics by saying the Clintons "know how to win," or "know how to fight."

Problem is, during the past sever years, I've never seen them fight the Bushies or right wingers. It's only people to the left of them that they fight using no-holds-barred tactics.

GravatarOT: no shit sherlock - Bad behaviour in schools is being fuelled by "overindulgent" parents who don't know how to say no to their children, according to new research. Teachers are dealing with a "small but significant" number of pupils who throw tantrums in class if they don't get their own way, turn up exhausted because they stay up late and have increasingly "belligerent" parents who take their child's side.

"These parents, themselves under social pressure and often unable to deal with their own children's behaviour, could be highly confrontational, sometimes resorting to violence in protecting their children's interests," the Cambridge University study, commissioned by the National Union of Teachers, said. "Teachers described 'highly permissive' parents who admitted to indulging their children, often for the sake of peace or simply because they had run out of alternative incentives or sanctions."

GravatarMuslims think they're unclean, but there are great Arab racing dogs like Salukis and Afghan hounds, too. It's hard to understand,

Gravatarbillyb-- there was interesting piece here on the radio the other day. Some genius devised a computer program for the CIA (I think) to analyze speech to see if people are lying. It deals with the use of certain qualifiers, and first person versus third person, or some such. All very complicated, and there's no way anyone could use it simply by listening to someone.

Anyway, it turns out that the same program can be used to analyze political speech-- not in terms of lying, but rather for "spin." The two are entirely different things-- "spin" can mean you're tying to appeal to the most people, which doesn't mean lying, so much as caution.

It turns out that about three weeks ago, Obama went from being the most spinning politician to the least, over night. The genuis dude interpretted the change to mean that his people had decided the nomination was in the bag, and so Obama, consciously or not, felt he no longer had to be appealing to everyone.

I won't watch it, but I can guess what happened.

I think it's because the puppy was helpless. If the GI's threw a baby off a cliff, I'd guess there'd be as much, if not more, outrage. Adults killing other adults is bad enough. Helpless creatures is even worse.

Personally, I will never forget the picture of that hysterical little Iraqi girl who had just lost her family (shot to death in a car, right in front of her) screaming while surrounded by GIs with their facemasks and guns ... to me, it's at least as iconic as the naked Vietnamese girl running down the dirt road. But, for some mysterious reason, that picture has disappeared ...

GravatarSome of the dogs may have been outdoor work dogs or guard dogs, Molly. They just don't like dogs inside the house.

GravatarCNN's John Ware on Maher's show (why I continue to watch that misogynist does trouble my conscience, I'll admit), anyway, Ware who reports from Iraq says we can't leave or they'll be a bloodbath. And no oil. More troubling, and likely quite accurate, he said for our soldiers, it was solely about taking care of one another. No grand scheme of helping democracy flower in the ME, no noble purpose, just watching each other's backs. Killing Iraqis and puppies matters little in this universe.

Wait until they finally do come home.

GravatarOT: The conservative consolidation of power in Iran's parliamentary elections has shown that international sanctions are backfiring, according to liberal analysts in Tehran.

Religious conservatives have won 70% of the seats decided so far and are likely to maintain their grip after an imminent run-off vote for about 90 undecided seats.

The election has strengthened the hand of Iran's Revolutionary Guard, a militantly conservative force with growing control over the economy. At least 120 of the 290 members of the new parliament will be former guardsmen like President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Reformists, barred from standing across the country, have only won 40 seats. They expected to do well in Tehran, where they were allowed to compete, but are yet to win a seat there, and demanded a recount.

The election results are a blow to advocates of sanctions as a means to pressure Tehran into suspending uranium enrichment, which the country's critics allege is a cover for a secret arms programme. Iran insists it is for energy generation.

A year ago US and British diplomats were pointing to criticism of Ahmadinejad's combative style on the world stage as evidence that economic pressure was working. "It's hard to see that now," a western diplomat in Tehran admitted.

GravatarFrom Nicholson Baker's book

Joseph Goebbels was working on his diary-novel Michael. "I lie awake for a long time and think of the quiet pale man of Nazareth," he wrote. Then Adolf Hitler came into his life.

Hitler had just gotten out of Landesberg prison, where he'd dictated Mein Kampf to his friend Rudolf Hess. Goebbels finished reading Mein Kampf. "Who is this man?" he asked himself. "The real Christ, or only St. John?" Hitler offered Goebbels the job of editor of the National Socialist newspaper, the Völkischer Beobachter. They spoke at meetings together. "He jumps to his feet, there he is," Goebbels wrote in his diary in November 1925. "Shakes my hand. Like an old friend. And those big blue eyes. Like stars. He is glad to see me. I am in heaven."

A few weeks later, Goebbels saw him again. "Hitler is there. Great joy. He greets me like an old friend. And looks after me. How I love him! What a fellow! Then he speaks. How small I am! He gives me his photograph. With a greeting to the Rhineland. Heil Hitler! I want Hitler to be my friend. His photograph is on my desk."

A few months later still, the two of them had another meeting. Goebbels gave a two-and-a-half-hour speech. "I give it all I have. They rave, they shout. In the end Hitler embraces me. Tears are in his eyes. I feel something like true happiness."

They had dinner together that evening -- Hitler allowed Goebbels to pay. "And even in that, what greatness!"

Goebbels had found his man of Nazareth. "Adolf Hitler -- I love you."

It could snow as far south as London overnight on Saturday.

"It won't be a huge amount of snow in London, but there will be a few centimetres," Mr Almond said.

GravatarJust what is it that people like Carville bring to the table? It amazes me that people get paid for being opinionated shitwizzles.

GravatarI am reposting this because it just pisses me off. The Grand Dragon speaks, (Pat Buchanan)
Barack says we need to have a conversation about race in America.

Fair enough. But this time, it has to be a two-way conversation. White America needs to be heard from, not just lectured to.

This time, the Silent Majority needs to have its convictions, grievances and demands heard. And among them are these:
First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the ’60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream.
Governments, businesses and colleges have engaged in discrimination against white folks — with affirmative action, contract set-asides and quotas — to advance black applicants over white applicants.
Churches, foundations, civic groups, schools and individuals all over America have donated time and money to support soup kitchens, adult education, day care, retirement and nursing homes for blacks.

We hear the grievances. Where is the gratitude?

Put him back on a phone bank talking ro real voters.
ignoreland | 03.22.08 - 10:36 am | #

You forget, this comes from the same man who, after the 2006 Congressional elections, suggested that Howard Dean needed to be replaced as DNC head so that Carville's little DLC-connected bun-boy, Harold Ford, Jr., could take the position.

I'd say, Carville is already doing a good job of excluding himself from DNC policy making sessions.

Hillary is the DLC/Carville wing's last attempt at reclaiming any kind of power or relevancy in the party.

And they know it.

GravatarBrooklyn Girl:

I don't understand your comment. Don't you see what Billary's campaign of deceit is doing to the party? They are literally handing McCain invaluable material for campaign commercials. I used to be a big Clinton supporter -- and voted for Mr. Clinton twice, but it's over.

GravatarThe significance of Richardson's endorsement is the signal it sends to the Clinton campaign on the direction the uncommitted superdelegates are headed. This may be the crack in the dam.

Other defections might wait until after the PA primary. If, and it's unlikely, she wins by a huge margin, it might staunch the bleeding. But if it's close, it's tapioca time.

Gravatarsimply appalling - Winston Churchill: leader, victor, and, according to a third of schoolchildren, astronaut. The most celebrated British Prime Minister of the 20th century was the first man to walk on the Moon, one in three young people told a survey.

The black hole in their knowledge was revealed after an online poll asked 1,400 children, aged from 6 to 14, some basic astronomical questions.

Not only did a significant number confuse Neil Armstrong with the statesman who led the Allies to victory, it also revealed that 72 per cent were unable to identify the Moon in a series of pictures.

Saturn also proved a problem, with only 44 per cent noting the giveaway rings. Two in five thought Mars was simply a bar of chocolate. A third of children believed the Earth was not an official planet (35 per cent) and 33 per cent thought the surface of Mars was blue.

Almost two thirds (60 per cent) were unable to say how many planets were in the solar system, while 59 per cent could not name the planets in order.

Ahh, but you're trying to talk sense and remind this person of higher principles.

For these people, the only thing that matters is that Hillary is a woman, and that if she wins, then a female--their standard bearer for some notion of "equality"--will have finally attained the highest position of power on the planet.

The bitterness at being oppressed and put down by men for these types, has so warped them, that they've lost any judgment.

I've heard Obama say he had a white mother and an African-Amercian father.

I can't find any evidence that his father took out American citizenship--did I miss something?

GravatarWow. I guess Carville wanted to make sure that Obama's associates didn't have a monopoly on the use of angry and hateful languge. What a fucking putz. Saying shit like that can only hurt Hillary.

GravatarI mean, it's like Obama hands them an opening, a place where for just one time they may be able to claim the moral high ground, and Carville just steps in and fucks it up. That sumbitch is a mole.

GravatarObama said the only thing controversial he knew about Rev. Wright was his stand on issues relating to Africa, abortion and gay marriage. …

His initial reaction to the initial ABC News broadcast of Rev. Wright’s sermons denouncing the U.S. was that he had never heard his pastor of 20 years make any comments that were anti-U.S. until the tape was played on air.

But yesterday, he told a different story. “Did I ever hear him make remarks that could be considered controversial while I sat in church? Yes,” he said in his speech yesterday in Philadelphia.

Yes, so we need to make the one that will do the least harm.

GravatarOne thing I found interesting about the Obama race speech was that it came *after* Obama had the nomination mathematically wrapped up. There's no telling what he would have done had there still been a contest, but because it came after, he rose to the challenge.

GravatarClashes have broken out in a number of cities in Turkey between police and demonstrators celebrating the Kurdish spring festival.

Dozens of people were hurt and scores arrested in the protests, media said.

In the worst violence, police used tear gas and water cannon in Van against protesters chanting slogans in support of the banned PKK Kurdish rebel group.

The unrest follows last month's incursion by Turkey's army into northern Iraq to target the PKK.

Richardson owes the Clintons nada, and Obama owes Richardson zippo.

Clinton can't win. You are living in a dream world. The longer she stays in the race the longer McCain will have to cement his win in November. Moreover, if Clinton steals it -- and according to all reputable unbiased accounts I have read is the only way she can win -- all of Obama's new voters and many traditional Democrats (African Americans and many educated liberals) will stay home in November. In short, Clinton's quixotic quest is harmful and of no benefit to the ultimate goal -- winning in November.

GravatarOT: Clashes have broken out between Palestinian factions in a refugee camp in southern Lebanon.

The fighting was between members of the Fatah faction and an Islamist group called Jund al-Sham.

It took place in the densely populated Ain al-Hilwe refugee camp, which is located on the outskirts of the southern city of Sidon.

Fighters launched rockets and exchanged gunfire in the middle of the camp, causing dozens of civilians to flee.

Lebanese and Palestinian officials said one Fatah member was killed and four others wounded, the Associated Press news agency reported.

So here's an old Jewish joke.

Two old jewish guys are wandering around NY and pass a church with a sign "We'll pay you $50 to accept Jesus". The one say, "nu, I'll go see." "Are you crazy?" asks his friend, but Old Jewish Guy Number 1 insists and disappears into the church. He comes out

Second guy: So?
First guy: I did it.
Second guy: Did they pay you $50?
First guy: Why are you people so obsessed with money all the time?

GravatarStory behind the story: The Clinton myth

One big fact has largely been lost in the recent coverage of the Democratic presidential race: Hillary Rodham Clinton has virtually no chance of winning.

Her own campaign acknowledges there is no way that she will finish ahead in pledged delegates. That means the only way she wins is if Democratic superdelegates are ready to risk a backlash of historic proportions from the party’s most reliable constituency.

Unless Clinton is able to at least win the primary popular vote — which also would take nothing less than an electoral miracle — and use that achievement to pressure superdelegates, she has only one scenario for victory. An African-American opponent and his backers would be told that, even though he won the contest with voters, the prize is going to someone else.

People who think that scenario is even remotely likely are living on another planet.

GravatarBugs, thanks.

It helps a bit seeing the "other side"'s (which is a bull concept) perspective.

GravatarIf you're planning on attending this summer's Olympic Games in Beijing, expect your hotel room to be bugged and searched while you're not there.
That's one of the warnings in a new fact sheet on the 2008 Olympics issued today by the U.S. State Department to Americans who intend to go to the games that are being hosted by the Chinese government.
"All visitors should be aware that they have no reasonable expectation of privacy in public or private locations," the fact sheet says. "All hotel rooms and offices are considered to be subject to on-site or remote technical monitoring at all times. Hotel rooms, residences and offices may be accessed at any time without the occupant's consent or knowledge."

A) aren't following the Obama/Wright scandal, despite wall to wall cable coverage and all the bleating on the blogosphere.

B) Most who are, think Obama did the right thing with his speech.

C) The speech (on race) has convinced more people to vote for Obama.

Cool!

GravatarBugs, I'm sure the love-affair with McCain is just the overall fear of not doing anything that's anti-american.

People have in their heads that being tortured for years (and, ok, a "hero") does not a good president make.

GravatarSerious Peeps art!

GravatarAnd yes, that does look pretty insurmountable. She should start angling for the veep spot now if she wants to stay in the game.

I think she's burned that bridge with Bill's help.

It was a real blow to his image as some kind of messiah of reconciliation, but he parried it fairly well, and I think it comes too soon to really hurt him in the general election. The McCain camp will not be able to keep it in the forefront until November. It did show that that he is not invulnerable, though. Which is good. None of us should get overconfident about this.

If you want my opinion it is for a couple of reasons. One is that Reverend Wright's criticism was aimed at "White" people. Reverend Hagee's criticisms are aimed at "Non-white" people. Reverend Hagee delivers his with the fire of a German commandant ordering executions, Reverend Wright has fire in his belly.

...an intelligence adviser to Barack Obama's presidential campaign broke with his candidate’s position opposing retroactive legal protection for telecommunications companies being sued for cooperating with a dubious U.S. government domestic surveillance program.

"I do believe strongly that [telecoms] should be granted that immunity," former CIA official John Brennan told National Journal reporter Shane Harris in the interview. "They were told to [cooperate] by the appropriate authorities that were operating in a legal context."

Uh, isn't he wrong on the facts? And wrong on the law? Wow.

GravatarIs anybody blogging about this? It needs to be documented and spread all over the blogosphere -

It's been like this in DC for years. Homelessness in the city seemed to decrease some during the Clinton admin., but it's back way up now, after 7 years of Bush. The settlement over by the Kennedy Center is new this winter, though, I think. There may have been one or two guys who used to camp there, but now it's a much larger group. You can see them when you head down the ramp to E St. from the Roosevelt Bridge.

GravatarIt's a fucking blog. Of course it's gonna be biased. Maybe he's made up his mind. Doesn't mean he has to write about it.

Of course he can write about whatever he chooses. But his public position that your candidate is teh suck is at variance with his actual views, it seems to me.

Certainly at variance with what he writes almost daily.

GravatarI know grits are made from hominy, but what's hominy?

Dried corn soaked in lye, IIRC.

GravatarI've been pretty horrified by the poverty in DC, and the number of homeless, whenever I go there. I hope under President Obama they will finally get statehood. That should be a priority.

A bgger short-term priority would be giving DC a Federal payment that actually matches the local property tax revenues lost due to Federal isntallations, foreign embassies, etc..

It's been decades since the Federal payment was anywhere close to fiscal reality in the District.

GravatarI like cheese grits.

I make delicious garlic cheese grits.

Here's a link to a pic of the Minarets, which are just outside of Mammoth Lakes: http://content.answers.com/main/ ...MinaretLake.jpg

The mountains around there really are splendid. It's right at the northern edge of the really high Sierra. There are also all kinds of secluded hot springs with volunteer-built concrete tubs in the Long Valley area to the immediate east.

GravatarBecause his bias is hanging out in a rather embarrassing and hypocritical way. And has been for some time.

DWD: that's only impressive in that it's so frank, and so unopposed in its frankness. For everyone willing to express themselves so forthrightly, there are many who sound like concern trolls, but, not so far beneath the surface, embrace just such crap as this.

I thought particularly amusing the notion that blacks should be grateful for their 'Christian salvation'. The actual role of the Christian church in the black hisorical experience, meanwhile, has been furiously opposed by these nematodes every time a black preacher--ML King comes to mind--actually interprets Jesus' words as if he was calling for peace, or justice, or even love...

Having gone through yet another husband, she now has money. Unlike all her peers, she has no children. (I suspect a penchant for anal sex, but the movie doesn't go there).

Rhett Butler reenters, and the DVD is put away for another night. As God Is My Witness, I will never watch this movie again.

GravatarInteresting that the lye releases niacin in the corn. Masa used to make corn tortillas has lime (not the fruit) in it. I wonder if it is there for the same reason.

GravatarI'm on the same mailing list

Politics have been more akin to sporting events in this country than intelligent debate over governance. People get their team, usually by birth, and then root for them blindly for the rest of their lives.

What many people fail to grasp is that ALL political parties in this country are "our team". We get to pick and choose who is on the team and who gets cut, and we should be able to freely criticize or honor any team member regardless of party without running a gauntlet of mindless partisans, but that is not the case. It is a sport.

GravatarInteresting that the lye releases niacin in the corn. Masa used to make corn tortillas has lime (not the fruit) in it. I wonder if it is there for the same reason.

Yes.

GravatarToons, Scottish cooking: it makes Irish cooking look good.

Most ethnic cuisine is based on what the poor and working classes traditionally ate -- and were able to grow or acquire locally. That's why I think the ethnic foods from warmer climates (the Mediterranean basin, Mexico and Central America, India and southern Asia, etc.) tend to be better tasting than northern European ethnic stuff -- they were able to grow and acquire a wider range of foodstuffs, which, when inventively put together to make the difficult to get or expensive stuff go further, made a great cuisine. Poor and working class Northern Europeans got stuck with some rather unpalletable staples, with not a lot of variety to stretch them out. At least, that's my humble opinion.

GravatarDo they really use sodium hydroxide and not lime to treat the corn now? I like hominy, anyhow. Good pozole, which is pork and hominy soup, is a great thing. And it goes quite well with chile colorado/verde too. Cheese grits, OTOH, meh.

Probably. Funny how Tampa's become upset city. Spent the afternoon yesterday drinking beers at a rooftop joint on the Bay, right next to the Times Forum. As each game ended, the fans of the upset team would pour in and start drowning their sorrows.

GravatarThere's no one in a position of authority at any of the major news outlets who is smart enough or good enough at their job to realize how pointless the Wright "scandal" is. But it's all they've got, and since the corporate prime directive is to keep the GOP in power, they're making the most of it. The only bright spot is that it gave Obama an opportunity to make a good speech, and that the media may be overreaching on it--you can only whore a scandal so many times before the sheep start to lose interest.

GravatarPolitics have been more akin to sporting events in this country than intelligent debate over governance. People get their team, usually by birth, and then root for them blindly for the rest of their lives.

Which is why I don't buy the argument that Democrats are smart and Republicans are dumb. Most people pick their politics for irrational (or selfish) reasons, and then they use logic to justify it. Which isn't to say that Democratic logic isn't more better than the Republican kind...

GravatarAh yes. The "casual poetry" of the Obama campaign. "Respectful, inclusive." Thanks!

Wouldn't it be great if we could just toss all the driveby troll-bots in a pit together and let then fight it out?

Anyway, McStain is only winning in the Gallup tracking and Zogby polls. That Zogby poll is full of shit like every other recent Zogby poll, and Gallup uses a ridiculously Republican-friendly turnout model. Consider also that in the recent the WSJ/NBC poll, "generic Democrat" is winning 50%-37%. Those are the kind of numbers that gave us 2006. And yes, I think McStain is currently near his peak support, because sooner or later the maggots angrily boiling just beneath his sallow skin will begin to show through....

GravatarI believe black pepper comes from the far East, but capsicum came from the Americas.

There is this -- from wikipedia:

Sichuan pepper (or Szechuan pepper) is the outer pod of the tiny fruit of a number of species in the genus Zanthoxylum (most commonly Z. piperitum, Z. simulans, Z. sancho and Z. schinifolium), widely grown and consumed in Asia as a spice. Despite the name, it is not related to black pepper or to chili peppers. It is widely used in the cuisine of Sichuan, China, from which it takes its name, as well as Tibetan, Bhutanese, Nepalese, Japanese and Konkani cuisines, among others.

It is known in Chinese as huājiāo (花椒; literally "flower pepper"); a lesser-used name is shānjiāo (山椒; literally "mountain pepper"; not to be confused with Tasmanian mountain pepper). In Japanese, it is 山椒 sanshō, using the same Chinese characters as shanjiao. In Tibetan, it is known as g.yer ma. In Konkani it is known as tepal or tirphal [1]. In America, it is sold as fagara or flower pepper as well as Sichuan pepper.

GravatarI think I've made it very damned clear I don't like either of them - the candidates, I mean, but I hate the pukes and what they've done to my beloved nation and the world far, far more.

Gravatarthere is zero evidence because his father and grandfather were admirals. getting rid of evidence is a standard republican technique.

There is zero evidence because it didn't happen.

GravatarSHEETZ!!!

GravatarI've noticed the Obama supporters in the "real" world are much less doctrinaire than his devotees on the internet. I've yet to hear a "meatspace" supporter vow to sit out November if Obama isn't the nominee (of course, this is mainly a charming characteristic of the Orange Satan / MyLeftWing group). And the ones I've come across aren't consumed by Hatred of the Clintoris, either.

see? it's working. anything anyone says about either hillary or obama is taken as a vitriolic attack now. "he should have seen this coming" certainly was not. and folks who don't know each other but should be on the same side are at each other's throats.

meaning, of course, 90% of americans (the onces who didn't get the tax cuts.)

ya gotta admit, karl rove is a genius.

Actually, it did, and his running off to another assignment was the real evidence that he was to blame. You can defend the indefensible all you want, but you're wrong on this one.

GravatarHey, blerb, stfu. I've been talking with/to Atrios for goin' on 7 yrs, you pos. I can say what I want. I say what I think.

FOAD, jerk. Crawl into your own hole.

I don't care how long you've been around, I will tell you what I think of you. If you have really been around that long, then you should know how not to sound like another one in our collection of offensive concern trolls, i.e. you should stick to the truth and not use racially charged language in making your flippant little points. I will say no more.

GravatarI didn't say anything racially charged. I expect BO to be the candidate, and I am worried that might be something else the MSM can dig up about him and inflate the way they do everything else.

I don't think the Clintons have any secrets left, frankly.

Gravatarwanker owls

GravatarAri Flescher has a feature length film purporting to be a biography of Hillary.

We can count on that to be almost as honest as a White House press secretary.

Gravatar"Q. Can the media whores be bought off by some barbequed ribs and a few drinks?

A. You betcha."

why don't We buy 'em some, then?
jdw

Obama did. MoDo was complaining that he was talking to her while she was covered with barbecue sauce on his plane.

GravatarI've noticed the Obama supporters in the "real" world are much less doctrinaire than his devotees on the internet...

Who tend to drop gigantic chunks of feces such as this:

And I think that a Hillary candidacy will unite the republican party in the south like nothing else.

A _white woman_ will unite the _repuclican party in the south_ more than an _african american man_.

GravatarMr. Clinton had told his wife’s campaign that he had received several assurances from Mr. Richardson that he would not endorse Mr. Obama. One adviser who spoke to Mr. Clinton on Friday said that the former president was surprised by the Richardson endorsement, but described Mr. Clinton as more philosophical than angry about it.

In politics, your word is your word. It's easy to sit on the sidelines and make fun of Carville, but any politician would look askance at Richardson for going back on his word.

GravatarSusie:

Do you really believe the Clinton campaign's "spin" on this? Are you that credulous?

GravatarDo you really believe the Clinton campaign's "spin" on this?

Well yes, Richardson himself said HE HADN'T EVEN TOLD BILL YET. I find that absolutely shocking. I'm not kidding, that's one of the rudest things I've ever heard of a politician doing. He was in Bill's fucking cabinet, and he couldn't tell him that he was throwing his wife under the bus? Wow!

GravatarI covered politics for 20 years (in the suburban GOP equivalent of the Daley Dem machine) and worked on a major mayoral campaign last year with Obama's communication's consultants.

If you have to ask that question, my guess is you're the credulous one.

GravatarI agree with bugs and Carville, Richardson is a traitor.

Isn't it ironic that when Richardson defended HRC, he was schmoozing for the VP position. But now that he's endorsed Mr. empty suit, he's a great leader of the Dem party?

He's been a Pandering Panda Bear from the get go, and not a very loyal friend either to the people that brought him to the dance. Richardson is going with the apparent winning horse so he can maybe get an ambassadoreship. Suck up.

Gravatar"Ah, yes. James Carville, the feeble, ineffective Rove of our team. Marries ugly Republican women instead of blowing guys in airport restrooms. He's an asshole."

Y must me another Obamabot, wanting to change the way things are done in WA.

GravatarCarville's logic seems to be that once a member of the Clinton official family, always a member. If loyalty was owed to the President, extended loyalty is also due to the President's wife.

Which is a whole lot like the political logic of the Bush family.

Don't know about anybody else, but I'm getting real sick of this dynasty shit. THAT logic died when Bobby Kennedy did.

GravatarJudas? Jesus Hillary Christ! What a bunch of skanks ... But most of the time Carville does good fighting the bad guys, and I still think Obama should appoint Hillary to SCOTUS if he gets the chance.

Gravatar"GravatarDoes Obama have to responsible for evey sentence that comes out of his pastor's mouth!?
This "scandal" is so incredibly lame."

Good question, does Hillary have to be responsible for every sentence that comes out of any of her supporters' mouths? Use the same standards across the board and Obama supporters don't look like cultists.

Gravatar"all of Obama's new voters and many traditional Democrats (African Americans and many educated liberals) will stay home in November."

By the same token, I as a dyed-in-the-wool Dem am seriously thinking of staying home in Nov. Let's see how well Obama does with his African-American and "educated" liberal voting block then. The "un-educated" blue collar workers (the base) may stay home too or vote for McCain. How's that work for you arrogant, full-of-yourself, Obama is Hope in an Empty Suit, assholes?

Obama and his Obamabots have caused the division in the Dem party, not HRC. Your (and his) attacks on her integrity and decency have caused many of us who remember the Peace and Prosperity of the 1990 want to turn away from you and your candidate.

GravatarFucking Carville is married to the nastiest Republican woman in America. He has the right to talk?

"It's the bitch, stupid!"

GravatarSilver is up to about $500 per ounce, Richardson is upside-down in his mortgage, yada, yada..... presto, all is well in Obama Platitude Town. Trees were involved.

GravatarRichardson is the consummate opportunist, nothing more.

GravatarI think Carville is enjoying this too much.

GravatarNot surprising that a DLC type, strident supporter of "free" trade like Richardson would endorse another DLC type and supporter of "free" trade like Obama.
