I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

GravatarSo, Avedon, as an overseas American, how do you feel about oversight being taken from FISA and given to Gonzales/McConnell?

GravatarPoop.

.

GravatarWhere'd all the fugitives go?
.

GravatarIt would not surprise me in the least to find my name on some list of overseas left-leaning Americans someday in the future, when this all comes down, years from now.
They would be scraping the barrel to find anything on me, but no matter.
Wiretapping? Wouldn't surprise me either.

GravatarSo, Avedon, as an overseas American, how do you feel about oversight being taken from FISA and given to Gonzales/McConnell?

Another mistake made by the Democratic Senate.

Damn, the whole lot of them are disappointing me.

Signed,

/Not Avedon

GravatarWell, let's go Shad up, and ride to that Scottish place for opium burritos.

bbl
.

GravatarTurley and Olbermann were brilliant, if sadly resigned to the disaster.

GravatarDigby kind of sums it up.

GravatarMarcellina - to answer your question from yesterday (I had to run off the the Pain Clinic for 5" needles up my spine) -

I have no idea what happened with respect to my banning. I came to conclude that Haloscan was such a piece of shit, that resetting the bans every few minutes was not worth the effort.

GravatarGlad you're here, BD fully blissed.

GravatarI hope Atrios dispatches fy when he gets home.

GravatarI'm glad Barndog's back, too. I miss Tena, but her reasons for leaving still tick me off.

GravatarI have a suspicion that fy is someone who used to post here everyday but got disgruntled and left. Just doing it to be obnoxious.

GravatarPlaying Chicken With The Constitution.

I can't believe the democrats are falling for this shit again.

Gravatarthe privacy invasion wiretap data mining is solely for political emeies of the rethugs, not for any legitimate "national security" issues.

the war was and is for profit. In Bush's and the cabal's view american people can go piss up a rope and wait for these acts of god to leave them belly-up in the culvert (hurricanes, collapsing bridges, etc.

Everyone by now knows Richard Cheney is a dysfunctional psychotic with more than his shae of lethal impulses so it doesnt make any difference if Jay Leno or Howdy Dooty interviews him.

Gravatargonna be an interesting day at yearlykos.

and the leadership isn't coming due to obligations in Washington. and after this vote, I'm not sure it would be wise for them to show up. especially if the House kowtows and gives Bush the bill.

GravatarFy got banned, repeatedly. Then Atrios set up the "scroll troll" trap. He's like an obnoxious house-fly at a picnic.

GravatarSeeing Jonathan Turley on Countdown is a bittersweet experience. Ya gotta love his brilliance & passion, but also, when KO has him on, it usually means an outrageous breach of The Constitution is about to occur......or it already has !

GravatarI can't believe the democrats are falling for this shit again

I can. It's what their masters tell them to do. And, we ain't them.

GravatarYou're right, joe shit. Perhaps it's sad that I feel fortunate I even get to see Olbermann and Turley at all, these days.

GravatarYou know that phrase, "Act as though you're living in the early days of a better nation".

Well, I think our elected officials should have started acting as though we're living in a worse one long ago.

Shouldn't they be acting as if this administraion isn't planning on leaving? Aren't all the signs pointing that way?

Instead, they keep making it easier, rather than harder to implant a totalitarian government.
.

GravatarFuel For Thought

GravatarSparkle, it's surreal. A year from now, just before the election, there could be some major "terrorist attack", leading to some emergency ruling for the elections to be called off, and everyone here will roll their eyes and think, "hello, who didn't see THAT coming?"

GravatarI'm glad Barndog's back, too. I miss Tena

My honesty will get me in trouble, most likely, but:

I like, and have always liked (despite what he may think) Barndog. Barndog is a good person with a big heart. And a wonderful wife.

I don't miss Tena -- too much insider bullshit going on there. There are things that I saw from her on a personal level that were a real turn-off with regard to the way she felt people should be treated and the way she, herself, actually acted. She was prone to fits of anger, drama, high emotion, and she could be deliberately obtuse in an attempt to make a point in a "gotcha" sort of way. She'd beg Atrios to ban people - Incognito comes to mind, and SWR, and others, and then she went off on Atrios when he banned someone she didn't deem deserving.

Sorry, the world doesn't revolve around Tena. I'm not saying she isn't smart - she is, she made some excellent points, and she could be witty and gracious, too. Best wishes to her, but sill, too much b.s.

GravatarListening to KO talking about Lott's statement about getting out of Washington until Sept 12th does make it sound like spooks are laying on whisper whisper whisper about terra terra terra.

Gravatarmorning, all.

Hi, Jeffraham, glad your cats could come to visit!

CSpan doing a whaddaya think of Congress callin, most spoutng talking points, but a few watched the GoPerverts act like rowdy fratboys. They're really lost causes.

Gravatar can't believe the democrats are falling for this shit again

I can. It's what their masters tell them to do. And, we ain't them.
Barndog, fully Blissed

They're falling for this shit again because they intuitively know the next terrorist attack WILL be good news for the Bush White House. I agree and have said so for a long time.
The idea that the Nation will turn on Bush after such an event and declare that Bush failed to protect us is ludicrous. With FOXNews, CNN et al going berserk with their coverage, no matter how small the attack, Bush will claim that those who disagreed with him empowered the terrorists.
After some massive US military response somewhere Bush's ratings will go up significantly. With images of dead Americans scattered about no one will dare criticize the White House.
I fear the response to such an attack than the attack itself.
.

GravatarGOP creed: Can't beat 'em Cheat 'em

and a nod is as good as a wink to a blind horse

GravatarRuth: Hi, Jeffraham, glad your cats could come to visit!

Thank you for featuring them!

(dang... where's that 8mm socket?)
.

GravatarMorning, rational people.

GravatarWith images of dead Americans scattered about no one will dare criticize the White House.
I fear the response to such an attack than the attack itself.

Agent Orange | 08.04.07 - 7:32 am

I'm not so sure. I think Americans are way out in front of Congressional Democrats on this shit and caving to Dumbya on this will only drive Congressional approval levels even lower.

GravatarAgent Orange, I disagree. If there is another attack I think the blame will fall on Bush and his cronies. If his ratings go up, it will be very short term. People are fed up with this administation.

Gravatarinteresting theory on fy, ralphie-m. I always noticed that he picks lines that no one could possibly seriously believe, but really annoying to posters here.

GravatarMarcellina -- Bush blackmailed Congress into this latest abomination. All but said there will be an attack if you don't give me what I want.

Anyone with an ounce of sense would at least contemplate the possible meanings of that.

Where is the person saying democracy is strong enough to protect itself and maintain itself at the same time?

I believe that, but there seem to be only a handful of elected officials that do or want to.
.

GravatarThe thing I liked about Tena was her gravatar. But yes, she coould be willfully obtuse when trying to win an argument.

GravatarHaving been a long-time target of Incog's nasty abuse, I admit I wanted him gone, too.
But Tena dissing Atrios for banning WGG for advocating violence against public officials got my goat -- the hypocrisy and other stuff bummed me out!

GravatarDraco was one for the history books, though!

GravatarHaving been a long-time target of Incog's nasty abuse, I admit I wanted him gone, too.

Incog wasn't fair to you, to be sure. He was an asshole. I gave him the benefit of the doubt until he pissed me off with his racist and sexist comments, especially toward you. I don't miss him, either.

Sometimes, he could be cute and funny, when he wasn't depressed. There were times when I felt sad for him because it is clear that he is very, very troubled.

GravatarDraco was an interesting case study.

I hope he's doing better.

GravatarSparkle, I meant to snark whatsoever. The thing is, I myself don't believe a thing this administration tells us anymore, and if such a thing should happen (elections delayed, martial law, what have you), the first thing I will be thinking is that this is all a predictable political ploy. Which is the surreal part for me, to be so far gone in my cynicism.

Gravatartried to leave a comment on the PEE plastics thing Ruth (synthetic estrogen)

Dont know if it ever stuck

GravatarI hope he's doing better.

And I hope his eyes stopped bleeding.

GravatarYAY, just read my comment on the WashJournal! saying that the GoPerverts had the behavior on the House floor of a barroom brawl, showed so little respect for the country! YAY!

Diane, like Gonzales is still pretending he's going to let the law break through. (at the homepage)

Gravatarthanks, coo-coo, hopefully it stuck. Its amazing these cronies of the GoPerverts are doing the opposite of their job, which is to protect the public. It's all sell off the public, all the time.

GravatarI think it's a common human human trait to think that "what works for me must work for everyone else", but my observation of life tells me it's not always so, not even often so. That assumption is where my beef with religious missionaries begins.
In my world, there's not necessarily THE WAY, there are many ways.

Gravatarthat's pretty much the issue with me Marcellina

the anthrax the box-cutters the drivers license the flight schools the building 7

all this crap is adding up in my estimation as a huge ploy and I really dont like thinking in those terms ... it makes me sick

GravatarI'm grumpy.

Just sayin'.

.

GravatarSome clown on C-SPAN just said the Dems were communists who want to take his medicare and social security away and give it to illegal aliens. Where do these idiots get ideas like this? This is the kind of asshole who educated himself and bought his house using the GI bill and then complains about the government being on his back.

GravatarI'm grumpy.
Just sayin'.
spork_incident

Well, have Snow White make you some coffee or something.

GravatarMarcellina -- If "to" was supposed to be "no", I didn't take your comment as snark at all.

I was commenting in appreciative agreement with yours.

I'm the type that questions my own analysis continually. I think we're supposed to do that.

So, I'm willing to consider that my assessments contain a paranoid streak -- as I'm often told.

But even so, there are enough signs pointing in a totalitarian direction that we should be defending against the possibility.
.

Gravatarralphie-m, it's GoPervert talking points. They've also invented a family making $80,000 that's going to get your seniors' medicare in health insurance. Purely fictitious.

GravatarDamn, I forgot to put the filter in the coffee maker. Cowboy coffee this morning.

GravatarDamn, I forgot to put the filter in the coffee maker

Dammit, I hate that shit.

GravatarThe inhumane nonsense the rat wing spouts about
"illegal immigrants" drives me mad! It's nothing more than tarted-up unXian hatred and xenophobia. Do these people really think folks want to separate themselves from their loved ones and everything they've ever known because being here is such a treat for them?

GravatarWhere do these idiots get ideas like this?

Well, yesterday a gaggle of Republicans all but said just that -- called the ruckus over early-called vote on the motion in the ag bill an attempt by Dems to transfer funds from American citizens on medicare to provide human services for legal immigrants.

Of course, the motion was just to return the bill to committee to consider language banning illegals' access to public services, but that wasn't the way Boener's Gang painted it on tv.
.

Gravatarplantsman, the only way I find to deal with trolls is ignore them. They have the character of playground nasties, just want to make trouble and whatever you do reasonable isn't working for that purpose.

GravatarWell, have Snow White make you some coffee or something.

She's too busy having it off with Sneezy.

.

GravatarFar preferable to say you're grumpy than to just act grumpy, spork!

GravatarMorning, all

GravatarTo make coffee over a campfire, we threw an egg in, that congeals the grounds. Might work for floating grounds for you, ralphie-m.

GravatarHow is our esteemed author this morning, DWD?

GravatarWhy do most of these nuts on C-SPAN have southern accents? Plenty of nutty people in these parts but I rarely here them.

GravatarOK, here's something nice to tell, sorry I don't have a picture.

There's a large lake just south of Munich (Starnberger See) with several resort towns and bathing spots scattered around on its banks. Yesterday I had the pleasure of seeing, instead of an ice-cream truck, an ice-cream boat! The driver took it from beach to beach selling the usual stuff to the kids in the water.
And I didn't see any wrapper litter, thankfully.

GravatarShe's too busy having it off with Sneezy.
spork_incident

Big nose, big . . .

GravatarTo make coffee over a campfire, we threw an egg in, that congeals the grounds

I've always used a bit of cold water when it finished the perk.

I sometimes eat eggs, and drink coffee - but not mixed together.

GravatarI asked yesterday. Will it take children suffering from starvation pictured on teevee to turn this conversation around. I'm appalled we even have to discuss supplying medical care to children. Damn, this is not the country I grew up in.

GravatarDamn, I forgot to put the filter in the coffee maker.

Ack.

I think I've done every stupid coffee maker mistake.

My favourate is setting it up and getting a nice carafe of hot water.

Turns out you have to put coffee grounds in the coffee maker.

But not this morning!

.

GravatarRuth, I wish I had had the forbearance to ignore Incog, but his insults were very mean and VERY personal, and they hurt. I finally learned to ignore him.

GravatarI am royally angered and appalled over FISA. And as soon as the roll-call vote (60-28, as you no doubt know) is announced, I'm posting it, and the letter-writing and phone-calling begins.

GravatarTo make coffee over a campfire, we threw an egg in, that congeals the grounds. Might work for floating grounds for you, ralphie-m.

I have done that but in this case the grounds were ground very fine and I can drink it without too much trouble. Just a little cloudier than normal. I'm a survivor.

Gravatarplantsman, there are more ways than just one way to get anywhere. Seems to me that that theory works universely, both in the real and the spiritual worlds.

GravatarWhy do most of these nuts on C-SPAN have southern accents?

There's a lesson there.

.

Gravatarplantsman, I know it's momma all over again, but having some idjut like that on your case is no insult to you. Take pride in being the other kind.

GravatarAfter I learned to eat chocolate-covered espresso beans, grounds in coffee didn't seem quite so bad.

GravatarSinfonian,

From kos:

No Republicans voted against the bill. The following Democrats voted for it: Evan Bayh (Indiana); Tom Carper (Delaware); Bob Casey (Pennsylvania); Kent Conrad (North Dakota); Dianne Feinstein (California); Daniel Inouye (Hawai‘i); Amy Klobuchar (Minnesota); Nancy Mary Landrieu (Louisiana); Blanche Lincoln (Arkansas); Claire McCaskill (Missouri); Barbara Mikulski (Maryland); Bill Nelson (Florida); Ben Nelson (Nebraska); Mark Pryor (Arkansas); Ken Salazar (Colorado); Jim Webb (Virginia).

Senators Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, Christopher Dodd and Barack Obama all opposed the bill, as did 23 other Democrats and Bernie Sanders, the independent from Vermont. Joe Lieberman voted ...well, you know how he voted.

Gravatarplantsman, areligious -- When we had the first go-round of this after the Reagan "amnesty", I got called for sharing your views by a woman who'd lived in a couple of areas of the country where the stresses of immigration -- illegal and otherwise -- are truly acute.

From her I didn't sense racism or xenophobia, but I did get that resentment about paying taxes for others once she and her family had theirs.

Around here, where the population is mostly long-time-local white people, I hear the same thing. Once their personal needs have been tended to, they don't want to support levies and tax increases. They genuinely believe their taxes paid the entire costs of the direct benefits they received.

Willfully or no, it's stupid.
.

GravatarHey, ql-was in NY!

I haven't been around much lately, did you make the move?

.

GravatarMorning, kids! What's shaking?

GravatarSometimes it's hard for me to tell the trolls from the people with whom I simply disagree. For example, Mimi. She sometimes exhibited troll-like behaviour, and sometimes not.

Gravatarmaybe it will put hair on your chest, ralphie-m. Tho I never really saw what was so great about that. :-}

GravatarIncog seemed to insult people who might otherwise be on his side of many issues. I could never understand that.

GravatarSinfonian, you are in splendid company here today.

GravatarWhat's shaking is our Constitution, like a leaf about to fall!

GravatarSinfonian,

GravatarFor example, Mimi. She sometimes exhibited troll-like behaviour, and sometimes not.

Hmmmmm.

GravatarIncog seemed to insult people who might otherwise be on his side of many issues. I could never understand that.

Incog was troubled. I never understood why he gave another poster here hell for being bisexual. Incog seemed to think he had the inside track on what true gayness is, or something.

Which goes back to what I just said about many paths...

Gravatarmaybe it will put hair on your chest, ralphie-m. Tho I never really saw what was so great about that.

I could try to explain.....but.....nah.

Gravatarplantsman,

I don't know about esteemed but I am a little chuffed. I heard from my publisher yesterday that they are going to do a second printing of SILENT SCREAMS and I had to update the BIO for the cover. That is good: many many small publishing house books never get to the second printing. . .I am grateful for this.

This country continues to disappoint me. Why can't the democrats just laugh at Bush? He is a fool and they keep playing into his hands time after time after time. I saw some names on the senate list that voted to gut the law that I expected: but I saw a few that I did not. Jim Webb? WTF?

GravatarWill it take children suffering from starvation pictured on teevee to turn this conversation around

I don't think even that would do it.
.

GravatarIncog seemed to insult people who might otherwise be on his side of many issues. I could never understand that.

When your identity is based on being a victim, you make victimization where it doesn't naturally occur.

Now, who wants soup?

GravatarYes, Molly, tell us about the semi-temperate mimi....

Gravatarmarcellina, mimi was nice to me, I never had experience with the other side.

Sparkle Plenty, the stupidest part of the seeing immigrants as a drain on your own pocketbook, is that illegals pay taxes - millions is taken out of paychecks - that they never reclaim. It's a source of extra $$ to the IRS. Tho the getting benefits is a nuisance, it's offset.

GravatarBushboy's contempt for the law is so obvious and palpable it's a wonder that even his Gooper stooges in Congress don't see it or don't care about it.

I was watching David Brancaccio on the PBS program NOW and he was talking with a lawyer who is defending one of the poor bastards on Gitmo.

The Bushboy government wouldn't allow defense attorneys to interview their clients, unless the client submitted a "Guilty" plea to whatever charge the USA had made beforehand!

In Bushboy's defective mind, he's Executive, Legislature and Judge all rolled into one, just like a king.

King Fraud.

GravatarI should have said, Incog, like a very few others here, think they're right and that their way is the only way to see things correctly. Same with Tena, as was said upthread.

Myopic perception is dangerous.

GravatarHey, ql-was in NY!

GravatarYes, Molly, tell us about the semi-temperate mimi....

No thanks.

GravatarMolly Ivors sez:

Boogers.

Indeed.

.

GravatarIt's hard to tell which is more aggravating: the chickenshit willingness to revoke the 4th amendment on demand or the sheer tactical fecklessness of a Democratic leadership that can't control the agenda of the Congress. I keep expecting that one of the Republicans will jump up and say "boo" and send half the Democratic Senators under their little desks.

GravatarAnd the Meet The Leadership has been cancelled this morning at YearlyKos as Reid and Pelosi and crew can't make it (due to pressing business in Washington).

The alcohol was just a reinforcement. Happens to everybody.

GravatarDWD, great! for you. How 'bout that. It's a momentous book, glad it's getting some exposure. (of course you know, I've tried to do some of that myself). Are you including "blogger of repute" on your BIO?

It would have been so easy for those chuckleheads to put up a motion that "in view of the FISA emergency Congress will not recess until it has made a full determination of needed reforms", but I guess vacation is more important than the 4th amendment.

The fact that they could be bullied into giving more authority to Gonzales after he has spent the last month openly mocking them is pretty definitive.

GravatarAs Henry Fielding said, it is not true that alcohol changes a man's character. It can reveal it more clearly.

QE fucking D.

Truth serum.

GravatarThe Dems have to reject the FISA Court proposal made by King Fraud, aka Bushboy.

It's the same old, same old, "Trust us! We'll respect the Constitution!"

To which I'd say, "You haven't yet and what's going to make you start now?"

GravatarRuth, she was pretty normal early in the day, but there were some huge red flags in her later-day postings. They were so arrogant and off-the-wall that I first suspected name-stealing, but she never denied any of those rantings. I now assume there were some serious mental health issues.

GravatarIsn't King George holding them hostage in DC?
Molly Ivors in NY | Homepage | 08.04.07 - 8:03 am

Like no congressman was ever absent a day or vote while it is in session.

Pelosi could hand the reins to a trusted capo and tell 'em to stall everything... 'til she gets back.

GravatarWell I can't say anything yet about the passing of this FISA stuff. I remind myself that it is law only for 6 months. There also seems to be this underlying tone of desperation from the WHite House. So maybe there is a silver lining somewhere that we have yet to have shown to us.

GravatarCan I request some lobster bisque?

GravatarThat's why I heart you - you complete me.

**mwah!**

Don't even know what I'm doing up. We got stuck in traffic and didn't get home until 3am. The Long Island Expressway eastbound was closed. Not some lanes, the whole thing.

GravatarOn the other hand if Feingold did not support it then the Dems should have sunk the thing.

GravatarMaybe I'll have to make it today.

I make an excellent cheesy corn chowder from the La Leche League cookbook.

GravatarThe Dems have to reject the FISA Court proposal made by King Fraud, aka Bushboy.

Too late, The Senate already caved. Time to work those phone and modem lines to the House!

Gravatarplantsman,

I'll say it, too. The biggest problem with some of the problematic people who surface around here is ~ ta da ~ ego issues.

Sometimes people think that their thoughts and opinions are better than they, well, really are. mimi is a case to make that point.

Gravatar
Pelosi could hand the reins to a trusted capo and tell 'em to stall everything... 'til she gets back.

I'm wondering if the FISA thing now was to keep them from Kos. But then, tinfoil has always suited me.

Gravatarplantsman: Too late, The Senate already caved. Time to work those phone and modem lines to the House!

Jim Cooper's already told me to fuck off on all national security matters. He and the GOP know better than I.
.

GravatarThe fact that they could be bullied into giving more authority to Gonzales after he has spent the last month openly mocking them is pretty definitive.
rootless2

Unless I missed something, they haven't ceded any more authority to Gonzo and the depraved moron yet.

If the Dems give Bushboy what he's asking for on FISA (including trusting Gonzo as the overseer), then what little respect I have for them will be gone.

GravatarCan I request some lobster bisque?

NO SOUP FOR YOU!

(Aw geez, that was a cheap gag. Beneath me, really. I'm sorry.)

.

GravatarHaving worked in legislation in MD and DC, I suspect the vote, while it's important to us, is one that these Dems would rather give up than the more vital public interest ones such as kids' health. Vote trading is how things happen. We'd never have passed the endangered species protections without that. For the recidivists, it was an easy vote trade in those days.

GravatarAccording to the news last night, The House is holding firm, though. It can't become law unless they pass it.

That's why I'm still betting incog was nothing but a created personae that wanted to see how far it could push the community to believe the unbelievable.

You can't fool me - I KNOW Queens isn't in Ireland.

GravatarReally, Molly, I knew you weren't well off, but making soup from cookbooks! I would think the kids would move out.

GravatarAre you going to see Shoes?

Next Friday, yeah.

(girlscream, faint)

But last night was Fountains of Wayne and Squeeze. Glenn Tillbrook still has amazing hair, and his voice hasn't suffered at all.

GravatarTom, a question for you, completely OT: without incrimminating yourself in your answer, can you tell me if you know American expats who do not file with the IRS? And their reasoning? The US is the only country I know of, where its overseas citzens have to file foreign-earned income. I do it, because I eventually would like to return. Your thoughts?

GravatarWell, I managed to drag all of the canning supplies up to the kitchen.

Guess that means I'm making salsa this weekend.

Gravatarfor Incog to say I wasn't an acceptable kind of faggot made me mad as hell - firstly, because he did not know.
plantsman

Dude, you are sittin' there crushin' on Angie Everhart - clearly you're not pure.

Gravatarfor Incog to say I wasn't an acceptable kind of faggot made me mad as hell - firstly, because he did not know.

The only other gay poster he liked was Draco, because he could bully him.

He's just a bully, that's all.

GravatarThe NYT Bread and Soup Cookbook is killer!

Gravatar

The Long Island Expressway eastbound was closed. Not some lanes, the whole thing.

I heart NY.

I'm so glad I'm back in Brooklyn.
Even with the wallet snatching.

It's the first time that ever happened to me so I guess after 54 years, I was due.

Other than that, how was the concert Molly?

Good morning all.

GravatarThere's no excuse for this Congress going on vacation. None.

.

GravatarWe are in Thers's ancestral homeland of Queens

If we're gonna talk immigration it's the Irish who are the problem!

.

GravatarThe US is the only country I know of, where its overseas citzens have to file foreign-earned income.

When we lived in Florida, New York State politely asked us to keep paying taxes. You know, for old times' sake.

GravatarBut last night was Fountains of Wayne and Squeeze. Glenn Tillbrook still has amazing hair, and his voice hasn't suffered at all.

Ooooooooh.

[jealous.}

Back in the day, I saw Squeeze twice. The last time was 19 years ago when I was very pregnant for Audrey. Loves me some Tillbrook.

And FOW is amazing.

Sounds good.

On a separate note, I truly hoped that you'd be able to see Shoes, which was why I was asking. I'm glad that worked out for you.

GravatarI posted this last night for the night people but if anyone would like something soft to wake to: this works.

It is Chrissie Hynde doing Tim Buckley's MORNING GLORY. Very soft and very nice - some of the music Steve sent me.

Enjoy.

GravatarReally, Molly, I knew you weren't well off, but making soup from cookbooks!

We all need fiber in our diet, Ruth.

GravatarAppreciating human beauty and sexuality in many of its permutations does not impact my sexual orientation - if I see a great "Straight Love Story Movie", I get it, feel it, and empathize.

GravatarHBK,
I may be selfish and invite myself to see The Simpsons this evening, if that's okay with you.

Gravatarf we're gonna talk immigration it's the Irish who are the problem!

.
spork

In Queens, NY it is Jewish immigrants from the Stans. They have literally taken over entire neighborhoods. And a lot seem to have food stamp cards...

Gravatarplantsman,

Same with me about gay stories.

GravatarAppreciating human beauty and sexuality in many of its permutations does not impact my sexual orientation - if I see a great "Straight Love Story Movie", I get it, feel it, and empathize.

Damn you and your broad-minded humanity!! (shakes fist)

GravatarThe US is the only country I know of, where its overseas citzens have to file foreign-earned income.

Hey, there's North Korea too.

The list is very short. a handful.

not filing? I guess if you earn less than the allowances, you don't have to.

GravatarVicki - speaking of music:

http://theark.org/1354.html

GravatarHBK, I learned from having my wallet ripped off by a grocery store duo - while checking out inattentively, it was taken from my purse - not to carry credit cards in something so appealing.

GravatarThanks, Vicki! I'm very excited.

I suspect I'm sleeping at the airport, though. My cousin has invited me to stay, but I have to catch a plane home at 5:45 am.

GravatarI had no interaction with incog, but your descriptions of him make him sound a bit like the "only gay" in that Welsh village, in "Little Britain."

GravatarBarndog, if you're caning, you're better off in Singapore.

Oh, wait. I think I misread that.

GravatarIs it still not cool to be from New Jersey. When I lived there NY folks treated me like a virus.

Gravatarhttp://theark.org/1354.html
Barndog, fully Blissed

I'm not worthy! They are sooooooo good.

I may have to check that out. I bet Matt and Lynn will head down there for that show.

GravatarNO SOUP FOR YOU!

May I have a martini in lieu of soup?

GravatarI think I misread that

A distinct possibility.

GravatarI think I need a couple more hours of sleep. Yes.
.

GravatarFiber! really, Joy of Cooking should keep you fed for weeks.

GravatarIs it still not cool to be from New Jersey. When I lived there NY folks treated me like a virus.

FOW had a lovely tribute to people from NJ last night. Adam Schlesinger is from there.

GravatarLet's recall that Food Stamps are a Dept of Agriculture program - it's welfare for farmers at its simplest. And if we don't want black babies starving in Darfur, how can we countenance brown babies going hungry here?

GravatarMolly I had no idea we were going tonight.

I guess I should e-mail watertiger.

(p.s. I would love to see you & Thers plus whoever. The more the merrier.)

GravatarShould we all send Barndog our snail mail addresses?

GravatarWell, I rolled out of bed early to get to the farmers market before 8 am, but as per usual, if I hang out here, I hang out here...forgive my meaningless about Incog, mimi, et al.

Time to go buy the corn before it's sold for biofuels.

GravatarFountains of Wayne I don't know. That's good that they did that though.

GravatarAnd if we don't want black babies starving in Darfur, how can we countenance brown babies going hungry here?

Well, they're brown. Duh.

/wingnut

GravatarIn Queens, NY it is Jewish immigrants from the Stans. They have literally taken over entire neighborhoods. And a lot seem to have food stamp cards...

Well, I haven't seen many knishes around.

But the potatoes! Look at the POTATOES!

Why doesn't Bill O'Reilly mention the potatoes?

Huh?

HUH?!?

.

GravatarTime to go buy the corn before it's sold for biofuels.

The most efficient use of corn is to eat it.

Gravatarmy tinfoil hat tells me that W wants his spying on americans law so teh republics can use data about dems to defeat them in '08

seriously, any real terrist will use encryption on phone calls ...email can also be fully encrypted as can hard drives and any data

Gravatarearlier topic, southern accents - as in the case of the cretin in chief, it is sometimes deliberately offending the audience. Showing you are unreconstructed. I can put it on, myself, but seldom want to.

GravatarI do believe JP has the right idea. I think I'll go back to bed for an hour and see if that helps dissipate the headache I have this morning.

But not before one last blogwhore:

Betito has some more splainin to do.

Later, bats.

GravatarAs a diabetic, potatoes are a treat I rarely eat, and then only in small quantities and with great reverence.

GravatarAnd if we don't want black babies starving in Darfur, how can we countenance brown babies going hungry here?

We feed them over there so we don't have to feed them here.
-Rumsfeld bot

GravatarTom, if you earn under the exemption (currently something like $80,000) you don't have to pay any taxes to the US, but you still have to file (otherwise how will they know you're under the exemption?). I have colleagues who know this but just shrug it off. But I also know someone who was caught big time for failure to file over many years.

GravatarHBK,
I expect it would just be me, since Thers would have to babysit. (Mother Thersites was a bit tetchy about the traffic situation.) We were thinking about vlogging, but I think that had better wait. watertiger said her other possible plan was meeting with you and seeing the movie.

She's also continuing her tour of Brooklyn Atriot sites today, hanging out with Brooklyn Girl.

GravatarI think w wants the law because it retroactively legalizes what he has already committed.

GravatarRuth the credit cards were the least of it.

I stopped them before any real damage was done.

But like a fool I had my SS card in there. That's what I'm worried about.

Let that be a lesson to you boys & girls. Keep your SS card in a safe place.

I already got my driver's license replaced with a temp.
My dry cleaning tickets were in there too but if this fool wants to pay $100 for old clothes he's welcome to them.

GravatarI've figured it out... They are spying on Republicans in Congress so they can keep them in line with all the dirt they dig up.

GravatarThe most efficient use of corn is to eat it.

My podiatrist says no.

GravatarFountains of Wayne I don't know.

If you like rock at all, you should. They're wonderful.

GravatarTime to go buy the corn before it's sold for biofuels

Speaking of corn - the wife's folks lost the early soybeans, due to frost. So, they replanted corn to make up for the loss.

This summer, lack of rain has left them around 6-7" to the negative side. Said corn is in severe danger of being a total loss.

Which would totally fuck them financially. Tough to think of bankruptcy again, in your mid 70's.

GravatarThe biggest story of our lives is happening right now in the markets and it is unrecognized. Since the days of the Malaise the economic Morning in America has been driven by credit and the Credit Bubble.

Get ready to live some real history here folks.

GravatarI have christened the pro-FISA Democrats as "Democrats For Unraveling the Constitution and Kowtowing Eternally to Drunky."

You may shorten that to "D-FUCKED."

GravatarThe Fountains of Wayne guy is a righteous tunesmith! ("Yo-landa Hayes!")

GravatarCorrection: the U now is for "Undermining."

It works better.

GravatarI'm off to peruse yer blog, Sinfonian. That dambed Bill Nelson. Useless.

The only good he does us that I can see is holding a seat for the Dems.

GravatarI think w wants the law because it retroactively legalizes what he has already committed.
ql-was in NY

Yeah, and doesn't it contain some provision for amnesty for illegal activities communications companies "may have" engaged in in the past?
.

GravatarD-FUCKED. Me like!

GravatarBarnDog, that's tough. No crop insurance?

GravatarJrette. is helping me blog.

Too cute.

GravatarBill Nelson stood between us and Kathy Harris.

GravatarThe Fountains of Wayne guy is a righteous tunesmith! ("Yo-landa Hayes!")

Yep, they played that one. He's won an Oscar, you know, for That Thing You Do.

As simels notes, a freaking genius. But I don't think the aging Squeeze fans were too excited by them.

GravatarYou may shorten that to "D-FUCKED."

Wouldn't it be wonderful to see that after some Senator's name?

Sen Dianne Feinstein (D-FUCKED).

GravatarI think I heard the House will be in session starting at 9 a.m. Could have heard wrong.

GravatarJrette. is helping me blog.

Too cute.

D-FUCKED was her coinage.

GravatarMy Mom lives out in the sticks and regularly funnels me sweet corn.

Yum!

(Diabetics can't eat corn? This I did not know.)

.

GravatarNo crop insurance?

Not sure of all the particulars, but I think the soybeans cost them already insurance wise.

GravatarI love the album, but it seems dynamically compressed in some way. Now, if FoW had a George Martin producing and some soaring sound, I'd flat-out melt!

Gravatar<i>I think w wants the law because it retroactively legalizes what he has already committed.</i>

well said - forgot about that little piece of 'fuck you' in that law...

and can any fucking dem get onto a mic and explain just what the fuck it means to 'give the president the law he wants' or to 'give the president a law he can sign'?  cause that sounds like rubber-stamp congress to me - it is abominable to a true democracy

GravatarDiabetics can't eat corn? This I did not know.)

Yes, they can - ase evidenced by my wife's love of fresh sweet corn. It's what you eat with it that matters.

All about balance.

Gravataroh, BrnDog, they pro'ly used the crop insurance to pay for corn seed. ugh. Caning will help. sorry for the humor.

GravatarDiabetics are steered away from canned corn, because it's starchy. Fresh corn we can have, within our carb limits - and it's such a summer thing, who could resist?

GravatarWASHINGTON (CNN) — Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo’s campaign stood by his assertion that bombing holy Muslim sites would serve as a good “deterrent” to prevent Islamic fundamentalists from attacking the United States, his spokeswoman said Friday.

I suggest we also take out the vatican, Oral Roberts University, a few dinosaur parks and Lynchburg, Virginia.

GravatarSomeone last night said bombing Mecca and Medina would play precisely into bin Laden's hands. Tancredo's a idiot troglodyte!

Gravatarspinoza, Tancredo would be more inclined to throw in a few border towns, like say, San Diego.

GravatarWASHINGTON (CNN) — Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo’s campaign stood by his assertion that bombing holy Muslim sites would serve as a good “deterrent” to prevent Islamic fundamentalists from attacking the United States,

He's insane.
.

Gravatarnot a fan of FoW, too pop for me

GravatarOKAY!!!!!

I'll leave y'all some kittehs before I either go back to bed, or do the ton of shit I need to do between now and next weekend!
.

GravatarTucker was demonizing Hugo Chavez again yesterday. Are people who by Citgo gas traitors?

GravatarHeh. I make an effort to BUY Citgo gas.

GravatarMolly I sent an e-mail to all.

Someone last night said bombing Mecca and Medina would play precisely into bin Laden's hands. Tancredo's a idiot troglodyte!

What?
They don't hate us enough already?

GravatarLE is way better looking the Fred (Saggy Bassett) Thompson!

GravatarChavez is the new Castro. And has the smarts to give discounts/med services to poor countries.

GravatarTucker was demonizing Hugo Chavez again yesterday. Are people who by Citgo gas traitors?
plantsman, areligious

Are Americans who buy Chinese made products contributing to strengthening communism in China?
.

Gravatar(than) heh.

GravatarSomeone last night said bombing Mecca and Medina would play precisely into bin Laden's hands. Tancredo's a idiot troglodyte!

Are you sure that isn't what Tancredo wants? Clash of civilisations has been the calling card of the Freepers and Little Green Raelians for a long time.

spittin' mirror image of UbL.

GravatarChavez offered discounted heating oil to poor Americans last winter -- and Tucker was saying how much Chavez hates us.

GravatarHey, plantsman. I made an EarthBox. It seems to be working great. Have you used one?

GravatarSomeone last night said bombing Mecca and Medina would play precisely into bin Laden's hands. Tancredo's a idiot troglodyte!

The "Shock and Awe" bombing strategy in Baghdad sure taught those Iraqis to kow-tow to the US desires.
.

GravatarThere's a Bill Holden movie on right now where the Brits are fighting terrorists and Bill is the one who sympathizes with them. Brits are trying to enlist him to pursuade his "yellow friends" the Brits are sincere about giving independence, and Bill says, "I don't choose my friends by color. I even have a few white friends."

What America was this film made in?
.

GravatarAgent Orange, they're more likely poisoning their kids and pets.

GravatarWhat mean EarthBox?

GravatarI shall check back, later.

GravatarSelf-watering planter. You make 'em outta Rubbermaid totes.

I'll get you a couple links. Hold on if you're interested.

GravatarAnother interesting fact; tobacco has one of the highest protein levels in its leaves of any plant. Properly cultivated, makes ideal biofuel.

GravatarI might use one, but right now I'm mad at Rubbermaid. I bought some of their plastic ice-cube trays, they started falling apart in less than 3 months.

GravatarNow time for Breakfasts. L8r.

GravatarI think Zogby has jumped the shark. After the usual questions about presidential candidates and NASCAR, they wanted to know my favorite flavor of ice cream and my sexual orientation.

Gravatarhttp://i183.photobucket.com/albu...et/ IMG_0691.jpg

That's a picture of a guy's tomatoes on GardenWeb.

This one is a link to instructions.

http://www.josho.com/Earthbox.htm

GravatarAnother interesting fact; tobacco has one of the highest protein levels in its leaves of any plant. Properly cultivated, makes ideal biofuel.

Yeah, but isn't it really hard on the soil?

GravatarBut what is your favorite ice cream's sexual orientation?

GravatarTancredo is dumb as dogshit. He is suggesting doing exactly what the taliban did to those Buddhist monuments. He is american xian taliban.

Gravatarchristiane amanpour is going to have a special on cnn about religions and jihads - it looked like it would be good as christiane is the most non-bullshit reporter at cnn

GravatarWow, those 'maters look happy!

GravatarBut what is your favorite ice cream's sexual orientation?

Well, black raspberry is usually purple, and we all know what that means!

GravatarTancredo is insane. Jeebus.

Hey, I know! Let's bomb Jerusalem. That'll show 'em.

GravatarTobacco depletes soil rapidly, and the nicotine should be isolated out of any foodstuff.

Gravatarthey wanted to know my favorite flavor of ice cream and my sexual orientation.

Tutti frutti and horizontal.

Gravatar
That's a picture of a guy's tomatoes on GardenWeb.

Holy crap! Those are porch tomatoes?!?

Gravatarplantsman - yeah, he got incredible yield. I just planted a couple cherry tomatoes in one, and you can see them growing, I swear. (I'm in Florida - we're getting ready for fall gardens here).

GravatarI cried so hard at Ol' Yeller, my mom almost ditched me and left.

GravatarTobacco depletes soil rapidly, and the nicotine should be isolated out of any foodstuff.

I wonder if the tar could be removed before it is made into a biofuel.

GravatarBTW - our busses run on Biodiesel now.

GravatarMolly - yeah! On his deck. My tomatoes always look like shit here, so I wanted to try this thing.

There's a commercially made product, but it's more fun and way cheaper to DIY.

Especially when you have a twenty year old kid to do most of the drilling and cutting.

GravatarThe "tar" comes when dried tobacco is burned, it might contain useful volatiles for fuel.

GravatarJen,
When I lived in FL, I let a couple of tomato plants go, just to see what would happen. One grew to over 8 feet, but no fruit at that size, obviously.

GravatarI believe all of our busses are Propane diesel now. They were experimenting with it back when I was in college.

GravatarThe "tar" comes when dried tobacco is burned, it might contain useful volatiles for fuel.

Maybe you could power cars on dead smokers' lungs.

GravatarOkay, the children of Liberal Mountain are destroying Grandma's house--I'd better engage with them. Later, all!

GravatarIt's not easy to blog when the Almost-Two-Year-Old has an upset stomach and a runny nose.

Gravatar One grew to over 8 feet, but no fruit at that size, obviously.
Molly Ivors in NY

That's what I was about to ask. Do humungous plants make more and/or better tomatoes?
.

GravatarIt's not easy to blog when the Almost-Two-Year-Old has an upset stomach and a runny nose.

Welcome to my world!

GravatarMolly, my experiments with tomatoes here have been, urm, fruitless.Disease and bugs.

I'm hoping for better luck with my Earthbox - which is purple, so I'm not sure of its sexual orientation!

GravatarIt's not easy to blog when the Almost-Two-Year-Old has an upset stomach and a runny nose.

Alka-Seltzer. Clothespin.

/I keed. I keed.

GravatarThe D-FUCKED post (those Senate Dems who voted for FISA) is complete now, with e-mail links and phone numbers.

Go to it.

GravatarDo humungous plants make more and/or better tomatoes?

My experience is that you have to do a lot of pinching and pruning to funnel the plant's energy into the fruit. The Gigantor plant was just an experiment.

GravatarWelcome to my world!
Molly Ivors in NY

Honey, I've been in this world before. Nothing new to see here.

Gravatar<i>Do humungous plants make more and/or better tomatoes?</i>

up to a point - in non-deterministic varieties, you keep getting yield, but they usually are staggered...in my favorite, the roma-pear deterministic variety, you can have a 1 foot tall plant give you 20 lbs of tomatoes

GravatarRomas breed like rabbits.

Okay, really out now. *mwah!*

GravatarState decides to secure electronic voting machines
Secretary of State orders more precautions be taken against tampering, and withdraws support of the InkaVote Plus machines used in Southern California.
By Jordan Rau and Hector Becerra, LATimes Staff Writers
August 4, 2007
SACRAMENTO -- Expressing concern that several brands of electronic voting machines used in California were vulnerable to tampering, Secretary of State Debra Bowen late Friday ordered new security protections be added and limited the use of two types of machines that were to be used in next year's elections in several Southern California counties.
Bowen also withdrew state approval of the InkaVote Plus machines used in Los Angeles County, saying that the machines' maker, Election Systems and Software, had failed to submit its equipment to her office in time to analyze its vulnerability to hacking.
She said her office would examine the InkaVote machines and expressed optimism that they would win approval in time to be used in next year's elections, but did not say what would happen if the machines failed her tests....
Her announcement, made just nine minutes before a midnight deadline, was condemned by the head of the state's county registrar's association, Contra Costa Registrar Stephen Weir.
...The security requirements Bowen imposed include: reinstalling the software before the Feb. 5. election to ensure it has not already been tampered with; placing special seals at vulnerable parts of the machines to reveal tampering; securing each machines at the close of each day of early voting; assigning a specific election monitor to safeguard each machine; and conducting a complete manual count of all votes cast.

Sequoia issued a statement early Saturday morning expressing "disappointment" at Bowen's actions. "Electronic voting systems have never been successfully tampered with in an actual election," Sequoia spokeswoman Michelle M. Shafer said. "That same statement cannot be made about lever machines and paper-based voting systems throughout our nation's history."

It's a start.

GravatarI think Ted just called him. His liberal wife divorced him when he started to listen to Limpdick.

GravatarWelp, it's time to tour the estate before it gets too hot.

Later, you wonderful bats!

Sinfonian, I'll be e-mailing later. Castor is my rep - I hope the House holds for us, anyway. Bill Nelson is worthless. Thanks for all you do.

Gravatarmy favorite, the roma-pear deterministic variety, you can have a 1 foot tall plant give you 20 lbs of tomatoes

I have 30 of those.

GravatarLOL, listening to a CSPAN caller telling how he loves Rush Limbaugh & talk radio. His liberal wife threatened to divorce him if he didn't stop listening-he refused and now he's divorced.

GravatarMorning, all.

How fares the Republic, as if I didn't know...

Gravatarwow, new level of fiction onCSpan caller, talk radio is here to stay, his wife divorced him because he wouldn't stp listening! plugging for an ad?

Gravatarcalled him=called in to CSPAN

GravatarOh, I see we've all got CSPAN on! That was pretty funny, though.

GravatarFruit and seed formation is often a stress response in fruiting plants like tomatoes. Happiness often means lush green growth and few offspring.
You have to be cruel to be kind.

GravatarKarin, here's your cuppa. And I think he was recording the call for his idol O'Reilly or whatever.

GravatarAnother caller now saying the Repugs athis morning are doing a great job, the nutjobs are up early this morning.

GravatarNuts never sleeps.

You could write a new marriage counseling book.

Gravatarmornin... try to maintain low tones, please....

Gravatarthanks, Ruth, I could use a refill.

Gravatarql, your cup here.

They read my email this a.m.! about the GoPerverts showing disrespect for America.

GravatarSTEEEVE!

.

GravatarTee - our flory has discovered that around her neighborhood, in the soil basins beneath the urban trees, the City has planted squash and corn! I've set her to look around since where somebody's growing squash and corn they're also probably growing tomatoes and beans.... Go City Horts!

Gravatar(I bet the liberal ex-wife is WAAAAAAAAAAY happier!)

GravatarWell that's a fool.

He'd rather listen to contards on the radio than have someone to snuggle in bed at night?

He deserves to be alone.

Gravatar
I have 30 of those.

wow, looks like it will be a 'saucy' fall around your parts

GravatarTrust me, human bond-pair relationships are not my forte.

GravatarWe've got a big family reunion luncheon today. Family being defined loosely, because some of them are close family friends. It's conveniently taking place in my neighborhood, so I have time to hang out here for a bit.

GravatarWelcome to the jungle, Steverino.

Did you see the new Dem caucus in the Senate?

Gravatarso that's why your prose is all sticky this a.m., Sinfonian. I keeed, too.

GravatarReally I can't understand how those Dem senators could go along with Cuckoo's new plan for FISA.

Hasn't Abu shown enough contempt for them?

Ugh.
I'm nauseous.

Gravatarso that's why your prose is all sticky this a.m., Sinfonian. I keeed, too.
Ruth

Yep, it's a veritable Festival of Bodily Functions at Chez Sinfonian this a.m.

GravatarRachel Maddow was on Countdown last night, too.
Clear-thinking and brilliant as always.

GravatarWe are on a movie fest today. So far we have watched Cars, Toy Story, and now we are watching Finding Nemo.

I need to go watch an adult movie soon before my brain melts.

GravatarI can't understand how those Dem senators could go along with Cuckoo's new plan for FISA.

lieberman isn't the only rightwing dem - that's how i understand them voting like fascist assholes

GravatarKarin, that sounds lovely. It's great when friends feel like family! Enjoy!

GravatarWe've got a big family reunion luncheon today.

I went through that some years ago.

Turned out to be fun.

Who knew I had Australian relatives?

.

GravatarI need to go watch an adult movie soon before my brain melts.
trifecta

Like "Shaving Ryan's Privates," perhaps?

GravatarReally I can't understand how those Dem senators could go along with Cuckoo's new plan for FISA.

Neary all American politicians are scared shitless of being accused of being soft on terrorism or empowering terrorists especially after the next terrorist attack in the US hits.
That's it.
.

GravatarLieberman isn't the only, but he may be the worst.

Gravatarhey, you're not all through the fluids until the stomach does its next thing, sinfonian. Pardon my family values.

GravatarThat would work sinfonian. I am thinking something along the lines of Syriana. Have the DVD, haven't watched it yet.

You are such a perv

GravatarWho knew I had Australian relatives?

Nah, this is all people we know-about 40 extended family members and friends.

GravatarWilliams-Sonoma has this garlic-bulb wreath made from fat California garlic. Now, if only I were wealthy, I could....

plantsman, areligious

Lest we forget...
Lieberman was the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate in 2000.

I also am closing in on 100,000 visitors for those wanting to give out pity visits.

GravatarWilliams-Sonoma has this garlic-bulb wreath made from fat California garlic. Now, if only I were wealthy, I could....

You can buy a woven garlic strand for like, a dollar, in Mexico.

GravatarAO, the Dems vote scares me, as they are being informed behind the scenes and pro'ly expect an attack. It may well all be made up lies, but they can't take the chance.

Gravatar"Lake Cabin Hungover" I feel a Coen Brothers movie coming on.

GravatarNah, this is all people we know-about 40 extended family members and friends.

So long as you don't have a wingnut uncle you'll be fine.

You roll down your windows, and as you pass the garlic fields, the entire air is perfumed with garlicy goodness.

GravatarReally I can't understand how those Dem senators could go along with Cuckoo's new plan for FISA.

I wanna know which punks voted for it. Anybody seen the rollcall?

Gravatartrifectaa, two hits from me so far this a.m. - over the top!

Gravatar"Al-Qaida is not going on vacation this month," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. "And we can't either until we know we've done our duty to the American people."

"I hope that there are no attacks before we are able to effectively update this important act," said Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee.

(This is why they are folding. They are running like cowards fearful that they will be blamed for an attack unless they join the thugs in peeing on the constitution)

GravatarOish...I'm outta here. Off to the Bronx to help a friend of mine deal with her mom at a nursing home.

Talk to all you fine folks later tonight, j'espere...

Gravatarwell... if i would've had a video camera with me yesterday, i could've captured some pretty good video for the trailer....

GravatarCucumber getting BIG!

GravatarYou can buy a woven garlic strand for like, a dollar, in Mexico.

I can, and have, bought a stuffed armadillo is Mexico.

So there.

.

GravatarI'm developing a grudge against Chinese garlic, and Mexico is far, far away. Plus, at the slow rate I ingest food anymore, a wreath would prolly go all yucky before I ever finished it.

GravatarYeah, I love that ride through Gilroy, CA.

GravatarWow, GWPDA; that's a beaut!

GravatarKarin, the list at Sinfonian, and upthread.

Gravatara correction:

Is this the out for the Senators? I don't believe it, since someone said Landrieu is the only among the Dem traitors that's up in '08.
Tom - 大肚腩 | Homepage

That was me, but I double checked, and Mark Pryor is up for re-election in '08, too.

Landrieu and Pryor need to face a primary challenge a la Joe Lieberman!!

enough!!!

Gravatarplantsman, you need to roast a ton of garlic and preserve it in olive oil. Any kind of vegetable stir fry you do, just toss in some roasted garlic at the end.

Gravatar"You can buy a woven garlic strand for like, a dollar, in Mexico."

"
I can, and have, bought a stuffed armadillo is Mexico."

Is that a spice or a condiment?

GravatarOff to the Bronx

Sadder words have never been written.

GravatarYou are such a perv
trifecta

Well, I'm nothing if not persistent.

Besides, you're the one who said "adult movie." Who's the real perv here? Hmmm???

GravatarThere is nothing, nothing that you can win with bombs. I'd argue, for instance, that World War II wasn't won until George Marshall did it, and the postwar administration of Japan did it. The Allies in World War I thought they'd won, but they hadn't, really, and on 1 September 1939 and for a few years thereafter some of the more thoughtful among them began to reconsider.

Until justice and economic opportunity prevail in the Middle East, and are more associated with the United States and Israel than Abu Ghraib and the brutal, indiscriminate use of force are, nothing, but nothing, will be won in the 'war against terror'.

GravatarAbq fair-going Atriots might get cool chile ristras!

GravatarIt may well all be made up lies, but they can't take the chance.
Ruth |

It's why I've said again and again - another terrorist attck in the US, no matter how small WILL be good news for the Republicans and Bush. Few people here agree with me, I know.
The Dems in Congress know this to be true.
.

Gravatarvery pretty cucumber, GWPDA, and Hecate tells me her moonflowers are now climbing all over the place, and flowering! so nice.

GravatarOne of the grocery chains here has big bulbs of garlic at 3/$1 all the time. Next time I'm there...

Gravatarspork: you've obviously never been to the Arthur Avenue Italian district, the Bronx Zoo or the Botanical Gardens. Much less had the opportunity to watch the Red Sox beat the Yankees in a game customarily played there from time to time...

GravatarAbq fair-going Atriots might get cool chile ristras!
plantsman, areligious

That is so likely I won't even take the bet. And what about non-fairgoing Atriots? A little one?

GravatarA smile guaranteed.

Heh.

.

Gravataryes! deFazio, people are dying in Iraq and they're dying in America because of their intransigence!

just wish he'd said criminal misconduct.

GravatarWow, that's a helluva cucumber.
I posted a picture of the sphinx moth I saw earlier this week- gorgeous
I was afraid of scaring it off if I got any closer.

GravatarUntil justice and economic opportunity prevail in the Middle East, and are more associated with the United States and Israel than Abu Ghraib and the brutal, indiscriminate use of force are, nothing, but nothing, will be won in the 'war against terror'.

I agree. Now go convince a couple a hundred million Americans with the MSM and the WH screaming at them to be very afraid.

GravatarI hate the D-FUCKED Caucus right now, I really do.

GravatarI have to leave in a bit to take my mom to the airport. It was nice having her visit, but I am visited out. My mother in law was here for eight months during the pregnancy and after, just leaving Monday. My nephew was here with her all summer.

It will be nice to have a relatively empty home for the first time since Christmas really.

GravatarThe 'Islamic terrorist' has by now become a staple of movies and TV fiction with all their accustomed simplistic nonsense. The constant drumbeat of the Bushist Republicans, for whom the continuous aggrandizing of power in the hands of an unaccountable executive seems the raison d'etre of existence, has so distorted the debate that actions that might actually identify, much less address, the causes of the problem are marginalized, and men who casually suggest the bombing of Mecca (Tancredo), that the Iraq war was worth doing because it was therapeutic (Cohen) or even simply because we could and we needed to show 'em (Friedman), even that God is on our side even if he punished us on 9/11 for our sins (Falwell), aren't wrapped in the opprobrium they so richly deserve and promptly carted off the public stage.

It'll take political leadership the likes of which the world rarely sees to deal with this.

GravatarShe'd beg Atrios to ban people - Incognito comes to mind, and SWR,

I'm pretty late to this discussion, but she begged Atrios to ban SWR? Whether or not you liked SWR's point of view, I thought(s)he brought a lot of well-reasoned, well-informed material to these discussions. Begging Atrios to ban SWR is pretty intolerant. Incog, on the other hand, was a one-trick pony. That got really annoying after a while.

Gravatarfailed bombing, floods and now this - UK authorities are doing "everything in our power" to eradicate foot-and-mouth disease after it was found at a farm near Guildford, Gordon Brown has said.

Speaking after a meeting of the government's emergency Cobra committee, Mr Brown said experts would work "night and day" to establish its source.

A UK-wide ban on the movement of all livestock is in place after cattle at the farm were found to be infected.

Some 60 animals are being culled at the Surrey farm after testing positive.

If they don't give the depraved moron what he wants on FISA, the Surge, et. al., and there is a big terrorist attack in America, Bushboy and the Goopers will scream American blood is on the hands of the Democratic Party and their promising elective chances in 2008 will be gone.

Considering all the blood that Bushboy and the Goopers have spilled in Iraq, it's hardly a rational or sensible claim, but the MSM, led by FUX NEWS will repeat it over and over.

GravatarThe prospect of a mortgage debt crisis loomed yesterday after the number of home repossessions in the UK soared by 30% to an eight-year high as households struggled to keep up with mortgage payments in the face of higher interest rates.

With the Bank of England expected to increase borrowing costs again before the end of the year, analysts warned that repossessions could surge even further.

The first half of this year saw 14,000 properties repossessed, a 30% rise on a year ago, the Council of Mortgage Lenders said. This is the highest level since 1999 and equivalent to about 77 homes a day.

We've got troubles of our own, Moon.

American Home Mortgage Investment Corp., a U.S. lender that halted operations yesterday, intends to file for bankruptcy, according to two employees told of the decision by managers in meetings.

Tim Neer, a senior officer, told about 200 employees at a facility near the Melville, New York, headquarters today that the company will declare bankruptcy, said Shawn Nuzzo, a loan sales coordinator. Employee Paul Horn said about 75 people in the information-technology department were told the company will file for bankruptcy by Aug. 6.

American Home would become the second-biggest U.S. mortgage lender to seek bankruptcy protection this year and the biggest that caters to people with good credit. The company this week stopped making loans and fired 90 percent of its 7,000 employees after a surge in borrower defaults prompted investment banks to quit extending credit. American Home issued almost $60 billion of loans last year from 550 offices in 47 states.
