It's that whole kids soccer game analogy of Jon Stewart's. They all just run around madly following the ball.
And he played varsity soccer, so he speaks with authority.
Michelle Obama did, however, say that if he doesn't get the nomination this time the public won't get another chance. Interesting.
I think she's smart enough to see that a long Senate career is historically bad for presidential aspirations. The best alternative launching pad for Obama is Illinois Gov, and the last-but-one in that position went to jail.

For a long time I've thought that Clinton would win the nomination, and would prove to be an excellent, and maybe even great, president.
But if Barack Obama can win in South Carolina, as it appears he has, overwhelmingly, it would argue pretty strongly that he can win Democratic votes anywhere.
I intend to pull the lever for him in Illinois on 5 Feb, because his politics are closer to mine than Sen. Clinton's. But in my heart and in my brain I really think she would be the better president. I think they are both brilliant, but her track record as an executive is much better than his.

- Obama's constant, blatant sucking up to religious voters
- Obama's willingness to draft an anti-gay activist to suck up to religious voters
- Obamaa's total misreading of Reagan's actual time in office versus the legend promoted about him
- Obama's promotion of Republican talking points on Social Security
- His frequent bad-mouthing of people who came of age in the 1960s and 1970s
- His silly reiteration of conservative BS about "the excesses of the 1960s and 1970s"
Quite enough to create doubts about his consistency and commitment to progressive goals.

I mean that given the white/black - dem/repuke split in the South since the Civil Rights Act, that a black northerner could overcome the white southerner/ repuke advantage that Presidential campaigns since Nixon have relied on.
In other words a certain percentage of white Democrats will be lost to white Repukes but their loss can be more than overcome by blacks willing to overcome obstacles put into their way to vote. This can put certain Southern state's electoral votes into play which might otherwise be easily forecast if the Dem nominee is from Illinois or New York.

Addison--pleae consider that the MCM has been pushing the race issue since Hillary won in NH--then blaming the NH voters, but moving on to find "racism" in Hillary saying that MLK and LBJ together got legislation passed. Now, that was totally unfair to Hillary, but it was a theme the MCM wanted to harp on and have have done so since NH.
Just asking you to think about how the MCM can also affect even those of us who have a mistrust of them. It's difficult to get those brain worms out of our heads. Even here, some joke about Gore inventing the Internet. Very persuasive and pervasive is the MCM.

Bigotry will never go away in the US. There will always be a hardcore group that will not let it go. There will always be a hard core group of people of color that will enable them. It's a work in progress. MLK knew that. He was a realist, not a dreamer. I still think Obama needs a reality check. He's not invested in the movements of the '60s? If it weren't for those movements, and earlier battles, he wouldn't be where he is today. He ain't Topsy. He didn't "just growed." From what I can tell many former avowed conservatives, have been hit hard by changes in the country.
One example I can think of is a new worker who's work insurance has not yet kicked in. Her husband was recently laid off, and she's been sick with that respiratory stuff that's been going around. I heard her come in the other morning wheezing from what ever is going on in her lungs. She seemed kind of scared when everyone told her to get herself to a doc immediately. She has no health coverage, and her immediate family is short of money.
People by November, if not now will be ready for a change.

A lot of people have deep religious convictions. Not all of them have to wave them like a flag in everyone's face. Especially not by recruiting an anti-gay activist to appear at campaign stops. There are many, many other gospel singers he could have invited.
Are you seriously saying that the only way that Obama can appeal to black voters is by overtly pushing the religious angle? I'm not talking about appearing in church settings - that's just a type of community appearance - but making a big show of it.
As for the Muslim angle, he might try declaring that, while he's a Christian, it shouldn't matter if he were a Muslim, because this is America and we have no religious tests for office. Who knows, that might help defuse some of the "scary Muslims are going to murder us!" hysteria the Rethugs will trot out. And there are many Muslims in the black community.

The Dem party in the 1990s didn't exactly rally behind the Clintons or progressive issues. The health care bill had flaws, but could have proved a good start toward national health care. But Congress was singularly absent in vocal support.
The Dems could have stood up and opposed the constant waste of taxpayer funds on countless investigations. Once the Rethugs had Congress, they might not have been able to derail them, but they could have stood up and pointed out to the public what farces they were.
As for the impeachment, they should have been ripping the Rethugs a new one in light of their sexual hypocrisy. And the other Dem senators should have duct-taped Holy Joe's mouth shut.

I heard Cindy McCain speaking. (Yes, I'm a big ole loser)She was
saying she had two sons in Iraq and she wanted them home, but she
wanted them home with honor.
So she has learned absolutely nothing from either McCain or Nixon.
So if Clinton wins big on 2/5 and looks to be the eventual winner, the question will be will Obama supporters go home and sit out the general election or will they help the party's nominee. My impression is the Clinton supporters are more longtime team/party players whereas the Obama base is newer and more susceptible to disillusion. But that's just a guess. Not trying to cast aspersions, just trying to prognosticate a little...

Just what planet did you say you were from:
Between 1994 (when NAFTA was implemented) and 2000, total employment rose rapidly in the United States, causing overall unemployment to fall to record low levels. But unemployment began to rise early in 2001, and 2.4 million jobs were lost in the domestic economy between March 2001 and October 2003 (BLS 2003). These job losses have been primarily concentrated in the manufacturing sector, which has experienced a total decline of 2.4 million jobs since March 2001. As job growth has dried up in the economy, the underlying problems caused by U.S. trade deficits have become much more apparent, especially in manufacturing. http://www.theleftcoaster.com/ar...ives/

You do get the feeling that he's tapping into a sentiment that repudiating the Bush years might mean repudiating the Clintons as well.
If Hillary just gives the stump speech, you have to wonder about the visuals of the cabloids cutting her off because there's no concession there. Also, Howard Wolfson saying that they're moving on to Florida is not good. It looks like sneaky politics. So many missteps.

I turned the sound back on on the TV just as I think I heard the head on MSNBC say "there were all white faces behind Obama tonight . . ." meaning when he was speaking.

I remember Clinton saying "it wasn't his job to re-elect" Dems in 1996. I don't remember when, though. Probably Dick Morris told him to say that. Triangulation and all that.
If Clinton had gotten Dems the Congress back in 1996, he wouldn't have been impeached. He should think about that before trashing the base of the party.

Prior, can't make it to EschaCon. The finances rule it out, and there are a few other things going on, too. So you'll have to party a bit harder for me.

I know he was elected after a long period of Ike-Republican rule, and brought a sense of change and inspiration (a similarity to Obama, IMO), but what substantive things did he accomplish? Why do people care who Caroline Kennedy would endorse?
I'm not trying to be an asshole, I'm just honestly curious.
Barbarism Begins at Home
Well he was murdered after only 1,000 days in office. But he accepted responsibilty for the Bay of Pigs fiasco, and he was not going forward into Viet Nam (according to his brother, after JFK's death) and he was going forward with Civil Rights.
But he was murdered.
He did give this country hope and got many young people involved in politics.

That's an excellent idea, TEBB. I'm a notary myself, but I'm disqualified, being a family member. There is a thing you can check off on the application to say you're disabled, so you want absentee ballots automatically for future elections. Before this, he was in assisted living, and the polling place is right in the building.

John McCain was racist in the SC debate, read it here: John McCain's racism in SC debate
Unfortunately it took segregationist Governor Wallace to reveal the truth that "there's not a dime's worth of difference between" Republicans and Democrats. The Democrats willingly went along with the War in Iraq, suspension of Habeas Corpus, detaining protesters, banning books like America Deceived (book) from Amazon, stealing private lands (Kelo decision), warrant-less wiretapping and refusing to investigate 9/11 properly. They are both guilty of treason.
Support Dr. Ron Paul and save this great nation.
