You have to laugh at the irony. The only thing Al Franken did which was successful was a book that has Rush Limbaugh's name in the title.
I met James Carville once, and while he may come off as a raving lunatic, he's actually a really cool guy. He'd be a blast to hang out with.
I wouldn't leave my wallet around Begala however. He comes off as a kind of guy who take my money and then blame it on the guy next to me.

Well, Franken's given speeches to world leaders, hung out with presidents, written for and starred on one of the longest running TV shows in history, had two movies he wrote produced, starred in a not-totally-short-lived sitcom, had two bestselling books. ALl how you define success of course.
But, the Big Fat idiot book is actually quite brilliant - starting with, but not limited to, the title.

Caruso, I guess you missed THE AL FRANKEN DECADE, not to mention THE AL FRANKEN MILLENIUM. Even Limbaugh doesn't have those.

You also have to find it ironic that Bill Clinton created more wealth by having an intern give him oral sex than Reaganomics did.

Yes Atrios, 'Stuart Saves His Family' was a cinematic masterpiece and 'Lateline' lasted less than a year (over a period of two seasons).
Also, he did not 'star' in 'Saturday Night Live.' He appeared from time to time (but was not a regular) and his writing was limited to the 1975 season.
I did leave out 'When A Man Loves A Woman' which was pretty good movie, so he gets points for that, but let's face facts: the guy is known more for being the guy who wrote a book called, "Rush Limbaugh Is A Big Fat Idiot" than anything else.

Jeez, Jay, who is your fact checker? Limbaugh? Franken wrote for SNL from '75 to '80 (the glory years), and again from '85 to '95(the other glory years - mostly). That's a pretty long association, that anyone familar with the show is aware of.

Jay,
He's had far more success than most of the rest of the planet. But,in any case, the idea that Franken is only successful because of Rush is like saying Rush is only successful 'cause of Hitlery and the Tubesteak Messiah. Perhaps true in a sense, but not really the point.
And, yes, he was with SNL for all of the Lorne years until recently- both writing and being in it (starring was not a correct characterization I admit).
Jay is proof that, if you let the wingers play with popular culture, they'll drop it on their feet.
STUART was pretty awftul, though, A-man. (Good sketch character. Terrible movie.)

that franken book is hilarious--it also has one of the best critiques of "reagonomics" that i've ever read, while exposing limbaugh's dishonesty.
oh, and jay--i can think of several conservative idiots who could only sell books with the word "clinton" in it.
