I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Gravatarindeed

Gravataryou gotta dance with the one that brung ya ...

GravatarGUMBO!

GravatarI think Lynne is worse

GravatarI'm in the unenviable position of running a fan full tilt to exhaust a huge cloud of bentonite dust out of my living room.
.

GravatarDUCK!

GravatarI thought Dick Cheney was the REsident Evil?

Which is not to underrate the malevolent might of Lynn. I have often suspected she is the actual font of misdeeds of the past 8 years...

GravatarFinnished! YEAH.

I hate writer's block.

GravatarDWD, how faithfully are you taking your antidepressant(s)?
Xan

Very faithfully. I think I might need a bit more, but this is close.

Gravatar(beverage of choice to leibnitz...I see I am not the only one who has noted traces of her fingers throughout a surprising number of misdeeds. Starting with the ravaging of public broadcasting.)

GravatarFinnished! YEAH.

I hate writer's block.
Echidne

Umm, better run it through the spell checker.

I tried Gramatick once on a novel. The funniest mistake it corrected was when I had a character driving on I 96. The spell checker choked and said, "Don't you me ME 96?

Gravatarmachine gun

and lynn is odious. truly a horrible woman.

GravatarI don't have the reflexes for Doom and its decedents.

GravatarDWD, what is your feeling now as to the relationship of the antidepressants to the return of your ability to eat? I seem to recall you were originally quite skeptical of the notion...

GravatarLemonade for Echidne! Yeah!

Gravatari haz bell's two hearted ale.

it was a six-pack when i left work, but is no longer.

i walk, so don't scold.

GravatarThe spell checker choked and said, "Don't you me ME 96?

The Finnished was on purpose, me being a Finn and all. But there are probably lots of mistakes in the piece. Not spelling, though.

GravatarOh man, I can just see his clenched expression and gritted teeth as he mows down the zombies...

GravatarI can't believe he still walks the earth.

George Harrison died 7 years ago at age 58.

Too young. Too beautiful.

GravatarPeace don't mean Universal, despite your particular current goal.

Peace is here in my breast. It is the day and the longing for what has been lost.

What now, my enemy?

I will go there and mourn no more.

GravatarCheney actually did a residency at Evil University, graduating summa cum laude in the same year as Dr. Evil, who graduated hot magma cum laude.

Gravatarspeaking of evil

go check the front pic on huffpost.

and that smarmy little bastard underneath it.

GravatarThank you, sidhra, and very happy birthday to you. It was today? In any case I'm parched.

GravatarThis is pretty cool: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade over the years...

GravatarI actually have a whole folder of Wombat's stuff that I've saved. Jeffers, too..But they are the smartest guys in the room...

dragged this upstairs simply to say "no shit."

and, yeah... "guys" means just what it says.

billy buckner is da man... and that other billy b, too.

even though you are inexplicably drawn to neil young's stuff.

GravatarI'm not smart for a goddess. Rather low-achieving, actually.

GravatarToo young. Too beautiful.

you've seen his son ravi, perhaps at the "concert for george?"

truly poignant.  unsettling, even.

GravatarGromit and I strike the double nickel on the 30th.

GravatarDWD, what is your feeling now as to the relationship of the antidepressants to the return of your ability to eat? I seem to recall you were originally quite skeptical of the notion...
Xan

Yes. I was wrong. I have to apolgize to my shrink next appt. He was right and I was wrong.

BTW, that disease was the most vexing thing imaginable. Food just tasted awful. I still can't eat fattening foods - bread, sweets, and greasy meat. But that is probably good.

Gravatar
even though you are inexplicably drawn to neil young's stuff.

This is the time of year where I used to wear my holiday-themed t-shirts to work. One said "All Of Your Favorite Bands Suck." The other said "Fuck The Gift of Music." Good times...

GravatarGromit and I strike the double nickel on the 30th.

pups.

Gravatar*Urpp!!*

That was pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. And my son absolutely loved it, which is just awesome. Later....

GravatarHappy sidhra and gromit day! They are treating everyone to a round!

Gravatarcharley -

jimi and billy cox.

ouch.

way cool.

GravatarOne said "All Of Your Favorite Bands Suck." The other said "Fuck The Gift of Music." Good times...

see, this is why i loved working at tower records in spite of getting paid mostly in promo cds and family health insurance.

GravatarIf I'm ever trampled to death at a Wal-Mart, promise me you guys will bury me in a coffin made of discounted Hannah Montana DVD's.

Gravatar: Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade over the years...

Where is the inflatable Simels? No, wait - don't answer that!

Gravataryou've seen his son ravi, perhaps at the "concert for george?"

You mean Dani, Ravi plays the sitar.

Gravatarstoat his son's name is Dhani.

The resemblance is eerie.

Gravatarjesus christ.  i been wearing these knee braces since i mistakenly left for work at eight thirty.

i probably have gangrene.

[ takes 'em off ]

Gravatari do mean dhani.

Gravatarhoney bear, could you re-do that link?  it 404'd and i'd love to see it.

GravatarCommercial on right now for the Obama commemorative plate.

Talking about Obama's "confident smile and kind eyes."

Yes, the president-elect does have kind eyes. And you can see that there is a working brain behind them.

Unlike the current occupant of the White House,

Gravatarstoat his son's name is Dhani.

HoneyBearKellyGoGiants

My 27 year old has a major crush on Dhani Harrison.

GravatarI don't want to touch the future for $1299.99.

GravatarI don't think I can direct link that pic.

Let's try this one.

Gravatarway cool.
billy b

see, i don't even really know who billy cox is (was that the guy in band of gypsies?) i love that band.

hendrix would have been a whole nuther animal had he lived.

and peace to george. all the cool people know george was the best beatle.

Gravatargetting paid mostly in promo cds and family health insurance.

I actually had a better standard of living than I've managed in the straight world. GOOD insurance, lots of free stuff, comped for a lot of stuff, didn't have to drive anywhere...

GravatarIf I'm ever trampled to death at a Wal-Mart, promise me you guys will bury me in a coffin made of discounted Hannah Montana DVD's.

She has boobies?

Gravataryou've seen his son Dhani, perhaps at the "concert for george?"

I saw that when PBS showed it.

Clapton seemed like a surrogate father. And Dhani seems like he is close to Eric.

Gravatarthat worked, hbk.

skeery, almost.

Gravatarthese houses aren't evil, just haunted.

Gravatarand peace to george. all the cool people know george was the best beatle.

I was so pissed off when George died.

Scumbags like Bush and Cheney hang around forever, but George has to die.

Gravatarhis son's name is Dhani.

Went to Brown, IIRC...

GravatarI don't think I can direct link that pic.

Let's try this one.
HoneyBearKellyGoGiants

That ain't his son. That's a clone.

I have a friend in Canada who is an ex pro wrestler.

Same story with his youngest son...clone. Looks like his father, same mannerisms. Same voice, same vocal inflections.

Eerie!

GravatarI'm in the unenviable position of running a fan full tilt to exhaust a huge cloud of bentonite dust out of my living room.

How'd you get a huge cloud of bentonite dust in your joint?

Gravatarina, you are absolutely going to take it the wrong way when i say that the way you raise your girls reminds me totally of my ex-wife's way with mine.

sounds awful, doesn't it?

thing is... she's a great mother.  and my girls are spectacular young women... yours can't help but be.

Gravatarhis son's name is Dhani.

Love his mom, Olivia Arias.

When that asshole broke in and stabbed George, Olivia hit him with a lamp, used karate on him....

The lady kicks ass! My kinda gal.

Gravatarto the dead "women lack emotional maturity" thread, I would like to add the following retort:

Little Tommy Friedman, Age 11.

Poor Tommy. His unit is only six months, but he desparately wants to believe it is 14 inches.

GravatarHBK, it almost makes you think there's something to genetics.

Of course, after eight years of Bush, were I a "good American", I would no longer believe in genetics, or any other branch of science.

Which makes me think, only think, that all those who believe Newton's Law of Gravity is a "theory" should jump off the edge of the Grand Canyon.

(Not really. But I can't help thinking it sometimes.)

GravatarAnd Dhani seems like he is close to Eric...

Wonder how he feels about "Layla?"

Gravatarstoat--why would i take it the wrong way? unless you mean 'cause you're no longer married to her.

i've never been married, so evidence points to me being a better mother than wife (at least for now).

thank you for your *intended* praise

GravatarWell, Plaxico Burress managed somehow to shoot himself in the thigh, so the chances of the Gints winning are much less.

What a bozo, that Plaxico.

I too am calling it a not very productive day...

GravatarWonder how he feels about "Layla?"
bill buckner

Patti Boyd's book is on my "must get" list.

Gravatari came home primed for neil young-related rumble activities, but it looks like they're not going to materialize.

reeking human balls would be even worse.

Gravatar"sidhra's hitting the hay before the magic birthday hour rolls around."

55 is old, man.

GravatarI'm actually pissed at Neil right now for slapping a $300 price tag on his forthcoming "Archive" box set. He is a wealthy land-owner with a best-selling catalogue: he does NOT need the money. I'm sure that it's great, but not even high-end boxes from Bear Family or Mosaic retail for nearly that much.
(But I'll get my hands on it one way or the other - I'm crafty that way...)

Terry C ♥'s Pres. Obama

neil young, is/was a repbulican.

i heard an interview where he said he was just like ronald reagan, owned a ranch in california... yadda, yadda, yadda, they also asked him about his guitar ability, said he figured he was as good as hendrix. naturally i thought he was joking, but apparently he was only half joking.

i like neilanyway. his music most matches my soul.

GravatarDidn't buy no Xmas crap yesterday. Did find myself down at SF's Union Square around 2:00 pm. It was fucking dead.

jeebus.

anyone wanna buy a pencil?

GravatarWasn't Neil Young going through a stage in the early eighties where he thought Reagan was fucking wonderful?
Terry C ♥'s Pres. Obama

Yes, he was a Reagan supporter. It may explain why Neil's music in the 1980's was the worst of his career.

GravatarSpeaking of country, I hadn't seen that Toby Keith "War on Xmas" bit from Colbert's special until just the other night.

Is it number one on the country charts yet?

Gravatardave, we did go to Target today, but we needed glamorous things, like paper towels and laundry detergent. It was no busier than any other Saturday--we parked close, no waiting in line, easy movement within the store.

GravatarTerry, I ended up in the odd position of being our family's keeper of the history for my lifetime. It's customarily held by the youngest son in the family, but my da died when my little brother was 14, and not interested.

I looked but did not see what I wanted for the wife, a digital camera for her a techno Luddite.

She's a numbers person, but hates complicated tech toys. She wants something as good and simple as an old film camera we once had an Oympus stylus. Simple good and easy is what she wants, also a large preview screen.

GravatarDWD, I'm anticipating a lot of going out of business sales post Christmas.

GravatarMy favorite of Neil Young's is "Harvest Moon."

great song, to give credit where it's due.

wrecking ball, also.  emmylou kills with that song.

GravatarDoug, I empathize with your wife.

Tech shit? That's what Monsieur and sysops are for.

Gravatar92!

GravatarPowderfinger.

Gravatarhow you, erinpdx?

Gravatarstoat,

I kind of judge long-time musicians on how many CDs I can make of the songs I love.

Beach Boys - 1
Jimmy Buffett - 2
The Beatles - 4
Neil Young - 3

And there are thousands of bands that I cannot make one cd of. . . .

GravatarTerry, I ended up in the odd position of being our family's keeper of the history for my lifetime. It's customarily held by the youngest son in the family, but my da died when my little brother was 14, and not interested.
Sallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere

I was always curious about my family's history.

My dad was adopted when he was 20; my Mom was taken in her mother's half brother and his wife because her father died 5 months before she was born and her mother had a nervous breakdown (lost her mother and husband days apart).

Around 2000, I said "Okay! Let's see if I can tie up some loose ends."

Internet a huge help. Found relatives in upstate Pa near NY that I didn't know I had (dad's mother's side of the family). Ended up tracing that side all the way back to the Mayflower.

My mom never knew her mother had a brother until I started searching.

So I know where I "came from."

GravatarWhen I read he was supporting Obama, I was blown away.

I wanna know who wrote that "War on Xmas" song.

It's a real "fuck you" to his supposed base.

Gravatarcuties!

and good artists, too!

GravatarWhat I am about to tell you all is the absolute truth, as soon it will be all over the intertubes.

This may actually be more insane than the WalMart stampede.

Tonight in Youngstown (as if we need any more bad press) a car drove into a McDonalds drive through, while _dragging a dead body underneath the car_.

The McDonald's worker called the police and the man drove off. The body was found a few hundred yards away and the drive remains at large.

You may now "supersize" your jokes...

What always pissed me off with Toby and the jingoism was I've seen interviews with him and he is NOT some shitkicker. He is NOT a STUPID man.

It took him awhile to wise up and I think he has.

GravatarOld Ways (one of Young's 80's albums) had one really good song on it (Once an Angel), and the rest is garbage.

The song Misfits is unintentionally funny with really cheesy lyrics. Neil must have been listening to Reagan's speeches when he wrote that crap.

GravatarHey, you kids "dig" that Neil Young? Well, here's the ORIGINAL version of "Out of the Blue (Into the Black)" with Devo (lead vocals by Booji Boy)...

GravatarThe "driver" remains at large...

GravatarI kind of judge long-time musicians on how many CDs I can make of the songs I love.

GravatarBeing a genealogist, I would LOVE to see a complete genealogical chart for Obama.

Both sides of his family.

I'm sure it's absolutely fascinating.

Gravatarno, but i never do.

stoat

no, but that is a great answer - i feel like we're bonding already, i bet we like the same kind of music too... but i'll tell you more later (the wife's up now)

GravatarTerry, what we have of our family's history spans 10 centuries. A lot of the documentation is spotty, but my grandda put it into a single tree. It's 24 feet wide and 18 feet long. We have a safe for it. I've updated it as far as I know, but there are many branches of the family I don't know much about.

GravatarI did some genealogical research during my summer vacation. It was interesting. I found that two of my ancestors (a married couple) died in the same cholera epidemic a week apart.

GravatarHas anyone heard about Franken/Coleman?

Gravatareric clapton, anyone?

Great within the confines of a group (Cream, Blind Faith, Derek & Dominoes, Delaney & Bonnie.)
Duller than toast as a solo artist. (Helllooo, billy b! Put up your dukes!)

My dad's mother's family we have managed to trace back to the 17th Century (England).

GravatarEchidne, we're not sure what a lot of our relatives died of. We suspect starvation was frequently involved.

GravatarI did some genealogical research during my summer vacation. It was interesting. I found that two of my ancestors (a married couple) died in the same cholera epidemic a week apart.
Echidne

One thing tickled me - my dad's father's side (the Irish). My great grandmother had two sisters married to the same man.

He was married to one and when she died, he married the other.

Outlived them both.

GravatarEchidne, we're not sure what a lot of our relatives died of. We suspect starvation was frequently involved.

The Finnish records give a cause of death though often it's something called 'bloat' or 'old age' or 'childhood disease'. One odd case had the whole family (excluding children who had already left home) die on one day. Nothing about the cause there.

Gravatarbill buckner | 11.29.08 - 11:32 pm | #

Agree. I like some of his solo work, but he's better in a band situation.

Gravatarapproximately 50 more days folks.

my god, what a fuck'n asshole.

GravatarSallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere:

It IS addictive.

I've even traced my daddy's adoptive parents' families.

Family history is also good to know because of health concerns.

My father's dad's side is lousy with arterio sclerotic (sp?) heart disease - hardening of the arteries - a number of them have died from heart problems.

When I went for my annual physical back in 2001, I mentioned it to my doctor and he did an EKG right there in the office.

GravatarPowderfinger....anarchist anthem

Their not here to deliver the mail......

Gravatar
Neil's had quite a few of those...

To be fair, he was a lot more concerned in those years with caring for his two handicapped kids than he was in playing nice with David Geffen. Somewhere, I have a mix that I made that salvages the not-very-good 80s albums - "Prisoners of Rock" is a great song..."

Gravatarstoat,

A good starting point

Harvest, Out on the Weekend, Sugar Mountain, After the Gold Rush.
The Needle and the Damage Done, Long May You Run, Love Is a Rose, For the Turnstiles, Comes a Time, Star of Bethlehem, A Man Needs a Maid, Campaigner, Running Dry (Requiem for the Rockets), Heart of Gold, Everybody Knows this Is Nowhere, Down by the River, Cowgirl in the Sand, Cinnamon Girl, Mr. Soul

GravatarTo be fair, he was a lot more concerned in those years with caring for his two handicapped kids than he was in playing nice with David Geffen

I felt so bad for him because of that.

Two kids by two different women with the same handicap.

Damn!

Gravatarmy god, what a fuck'n asshole.

Gravatarbill buckner | 11.29.08 - 11:37 pm | #

There's a single CD compliation of the Geffen years called Lucky Thirteen. It's actually pretty good. Neil complied it himself, and took the best songs from that era.

Granted, it only filled one CD.

GravatarTerry, for me, it's not an addiction--more of a sacred trust.

GravatarI put my faith in Milla when it comes to the Cheney affair.

GravatarOne odd case had the whole family (excluding children who had already left home) die on one day.

Oh, I feel that way, too.

But to me, the more I know, the more I want to know.

Gravatarbill buckner is, as usual, correct with regard to mr. clapton.

jeez.  i sound like john mclaughlin (not the guitarist... definitely not the guitarist).

here's a question for you... why does the new dylan collection have so much better material than actually appeared on his cds?

Gravatar"One odd case had the whole family (excluding children who had already left home) die on one day. Nothing about the cause there."

fire?

Gravatarfire?

That would be my guess. It could also be an epidemic as this one in the eighteenth century. I doubt it's violence because usually the records mention that.

Gravatar
Granted, it only filled one CD.

Mine's better.

Gravatari like a lot of those, dwd.

i'm not a neil hater... just wish his new stuff didn't occupy so much space on my radio by default.

GravatarEchidne, we did have a number of intrafamily murders.

GravatarI doubt it's violence because usually the records mention that.

That's my last duchess, painted on the wall...

GravatarSallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere:

Another thing: My paternal grandfather and his older brother both were hemophiliacs. His older brother, my Uncle Leo, served in WW I. Didn't know he had it. He was on a train, going up to see my great grandmom. Train was crowded and he was standing. Train stopped suddenly. His chest hit a bar.

He got to his mom's, took a nap, never woke up. Died of internal bleeding.

Why Dylan leaves his best tracks off his albums is a true mystery.

The new bootleg series is awesome.

The versions of Someday Baby, Mississippi (take #1), and the live version of High Water (for Charley Patton) are better than the released versions. And that's just for starters.

GravatarTerry, well that, too.

Gravatar
here's a question for you...

Zimmy is hip again, and the last 3 records have been very good, but I'm convinced that for a long time that he didn't give it all that much thought. One thing that I do know about Dylan is that he's an absolute adherent of knocking things out quickly in the studio - "Blonde on Blonde" took 3 days. And from his debut to "Blood on The Tracks" - a body of work by anyone's standard - he spent less time in the studio than The Beatles spent recording "Sgt. Pepper."
(So I really believe that he just throws it against the wall, and sees what sticks. But yeah, there's an abundance of great stuff on the various "bootleg" re-issues, and that's what used to be so much fun about collecting bootlegs. Dylan, Stones, Beatles, any big act from that era have been better served by bootleggers than they have by their own labels.)/rant

GravatarI think the problem is that I don't find Ann Coulter funny.

When I found out what cemetery he was buried in, I contacted the cemetery. They sent me a printout of where he was buried and who was buried with him.

GravatarNight, all

Sweet Dreams. I have called - a week ago now - that the Recession/Depression will be less deep and less traumatic than is popularly believed.

The reason is very simple: gas prices. When gas prices nosedived down by $3 a gallon ($1.61 in Muskegon now) it gives EVERYONE who lives close to the margin (mostly everyone) an instant raise.

Better than Bush's phony balony $300 check too.

People will spend money they have. It is as simple as that. If you are a person who lives close to your means, then this is a boon for you.(Buy stocks now)

Peace.

Must disagree. He's done some great, great stuff since Blood.

But the 80's were abysmal for Dylan. Knocked Out Loaded, Down in the Groove, and Dylan and the Dead were really awful, especially Dylan and the Dead.

Simels reviewed Knocked Out Loaded, and liked Brownsville Girl (the best song on the album, a great Dylan classic), but said the rest was junk.

Gravatar"I never thought "Doorbuster Sales" were literal."

Last year we decided to go almost cold turkey. We sent modest gift cards to the various family. We have no children and the outboard family requires little and we know nil on what they want. We deferred on individual gifts in the household opting to taking a vote on a "house gift" that everyone could share. We donated directly to three local charities what we would have spent on the variety of gifts. We are much happier. The outboard family think we are being cheap and were not happy. (We asked them not to send us gifts and suggested they donate as we did). We have recently gotten a couple of "this is the way we always do it and we are not going to change).

This year I am thinking of acing out the outboard family completely.

I dig Slow Train Coming a lot. Saved is rescued (didn't want to use the obvious pun) by Dylan and his band's performances. The material isn't great, but Dylan has so much passion on that album that it works.

Shot of Love, however, was pretty bad. That was the first Dylan album I ever bought. It has two great songs, The Groom's Still Waiting at the Altar and Every Grain of Sand.

The WORST Dylan album - and the only one never to have been on CD AFAIK - is "Dylan" - a collection of half-finished demos that Columbia released as punishment after he jumped to Elektra for one album. The outtakes from Shot of Love are fantastic (Angelina, Need a Woman).

GravatarDon't always have to make sense.

"Stairway to Heaven" and "Bohemian Rhapsody" don't make any sense.

Most of Cream's lyrics don't make any sense.
Terry C ♥'s Pres. Obama

Nonsensical lyrics contribute nothing. Why not just make gutteral noises for 3 minutes? I imagine Stairway to Heaven would have been just as good in Chinese - perhaps better?
