I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Biden, huh...
Okay, then.

GravatarI like trains.

I like "The Wizard of Oz".

Gravatarre-HICA!

(gotta eat... bbl, but here's a funny cat)
.

GravatarChuck Todd just said that Obama has a massive advantage over McCain in the ground game.

In fact, he said that McCain doesn't even have a ground game.

GravatarYup. The Dude loves Amtrak and rides it twice a workday -- even sponsors the Amtrak employees Christmas Party.

GravatarRove's a genius!!!

I'm worried, people...

GravatarGet this off the blogs and into the MSM. It kinda swamps that whiny McCain ad about what Biden said in a debate awhile back.

And the timing couldn't be better. Everybody wants the backstory on Biden right now. Gee, this could be fun.

GravatarIn fact, he said that McCain doesn't even have a ground game.

No, but he's got a kick-ass shuffleboard game.

GravatarAs frustrated as I've been with Biden in recent years, I think that as Vice-President... and particularly as a Vice Presidential candidate you get his strengths pretty undiluted, without some of the drawbacks.

Like, y'know... his tendency to vote the opposite way from his speeches.

Gravatarhere's a funny cat

Nah, he's laughing at you...

GravatarCan't hate a guy who loves the train.

GravatarIn fact, he said that McCain doesn't even have a ground game.

GravatarChuck Todd just said that Obama has a massive advantage over McCain in the ground game.

Yeah, screw these pre-convention polls. I think Obama's gonna grind up McCain the way he ground up Hillary, with one advantage: he's running against McCain this time, not Hillary.

Pass the popcorn.

GravatarTrains rule.  I love that we have Metro and Metrolink now.  Take them whenever I can.

GravatarCan't hate a guy who loves the train.

...and actually walks his talk.

GravatarWho's Valerie?

GravatarZap, if I was certain we were doomed, it'd be hard for me to get up every morning. Sallyh

I bounce out of bed every morning since I replaced my old bed springs with the new Hope™ springs with the eternal warranty! Yes, I *can*...get up!

GravatarSo, do we call him Joe Biden (D-SUPERTRAIN) now?

GravatarIn fact, he said that McCain doesn't even have a ground game.

Ball security will then be the key, I think.

GravatarI'm going to have to believe that the Democratic Party is pretty damned certain of my vote.

GravatarAw, hell; inevitable gratuitous SUPERTRAIN link:

GravatarYes, I *can*...get up!

Doesn't this interfere with the Viagra trademark?

Oh wait - the wording's slightly different...

Gravatarleibniz leibkins--left a little comment for you at the bottom of the last thread.

GravatarWho's Valerie?

Here's a Valerie.

GravatarBiden does have a great depth of knowledge of the Constitution. I remember so far back that I remember his merciless shredding of Bork and also Rehnquist in confirmation hearings.

He's kinda like Spectre in being more bark than bite much more often than I like, but he does know the constitution. I think Obama will get good advice and opinion from him rather than rogue policies or acquiescence.

So, I guess I'm okay with Biden. Not ecstatic, but okay. I'll need to get a little more enthusiastic before I kick in any more mo-nay.

GravatarI see (now, "used to see" I suppose) Biden often on the Acela headed northwards, usually on the 5 or the 6 pm. He's very chatty (surprise) and and wanders up and down the cars, usually headed to the cafe car for refreshments.

GravatarBall security will then be the key, I think.

Did you read those e-mails from the haters at kos?

Do I have legal recourse?

GravatarOkay, I was at first resigned to it being Biden and now, one cup of coffee later, I'm okay with it.

GravatarI'm on board.

GravatarI'm going to have to believe that the Democratic Party is pretty damned certain of my vote.

They are. That drives me crazy. We don't have any real leverage now, progressives I mean, because what ARE we going to do? Vote McCain?

All we can do is pressure them downticket, and that's a long and tedious process.

GravatarNow, please let McCain pick Mittens.

GravatarThat's great that he's a train man.
He needs a hobo nickname. Take the poll at my blog to give Joe Biden a hobo nickname.

GravatarAl Franken will make it all better.

GravatarFor one thing, Obama and Biden both have blazingly great smiles.

That really is a good thing. McCain looks like his face would split if he really let loose with a big grin.

GravatarHas McCain made any noise about when his announcement will be?

GravatarJoanie, we could have done worse.

Now let's hope McCain picks Romney for VP

GravatarBiden got remarried five years after his first wife died?

Well, there goes our ability to criticise McCain.

What a libertine that Biden is! If he had waited til the Rapture, he would have been re-united with his first wife. Did I mention he showed contempt for God and his Great Plan for mankind?

GravatarMcCain plays with a leather helmet.

GravatarI'm not happy this morning, and it's not per se because of Biden, although he's symptommatic. I think Bob Herbert pretty much nails it here.
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/08/2...&hp& oref=slogin

Back before the primaries even started, I was screaming here that this election has to be transformational, that it has to put an end to the Conservative brand for generations to come, or else nothing fundamental will change and we'll have a squandered a priceless opportunity with very little chance of getting another one.

Why Obama and the Dems generally aren't screaming holy hell and running against the most Calamitous and Criminal Administration in American Fricking History is, frankly, beyond me...

GravatarSupertrain, shmoopertrain... Big Bus, bitches!!!

I would put up a diary over there with their e-mails and shame them.

GravatarBiden means Obama's call for change is mostly bullshit.

GravatarJoanie, liberals smile a lot more than conservatives.  I swear, they all look constipated.

GravatarHas McCain made any noise about when his announcement will be?

Next Friday, right after the Dem Convention folds.

GravatarHas McCain made any noise about when his announcement will be?

Apparently there is a disagreement between McCain and McCain on this issue.

GravatarBiden means Obama's call for change is mostly bullshit.

Based on....

GravatarVicki, I like Gomez' idea. Post the e-mails as a diary.

Sigh, O.K., my daughter, who is doing organic chemistry at the table, also sighs. Time for another cup of coffee. O.K. Biden it is. Least he stuck with his kids and appears to honor commitments. That goes a long way.

GravatarI would put up a diary over there with their e-mails and shame them.

With the email addresses you received them from and any names that were used in delivery.

Sallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere | 08.23.08 - 10:37 am | #

I still think it's gonna be Huckabee, but what do I know -- as of yesterday, I was still saying Obama was gonna go with Hillary.

BTW -- the fact that David Brooks wanted and predicted Biden should be very worrisome...

GravatarNote:
Vote for the lesser of the evils, but still call bullshit when you see it.

That is what makes us different than the conservatives.

GravatarSteve, Herbert does raise some very important points.  I hope Obama's paying attention.

GravatarJoanie, liberals smile a lot more than conservatives. I swear, they all look constipated.
Sallyh

Well, we lost our smiles around here during the primary. I've recovered my balance. It's politics and while we can have deep disagreements among ourselves, we're still friends on this site. At least I hope so.

GravatarI have been on a quest to find out what "progressive" means. I learned something new today. "Progressive" means that anybody who calls themselves "progressive" deserves instant political consideration. Whether they have done anything to merit it, or even to buy it. "Progressive" causes are the most important causes and deserve the most consideration.

GravatarWho's Valerie?

Because this is redneck America, and they'll lose if they do that. Besides, McCain is running against the administration too, and he's their opponenet, not George Bush.

GravatarI always thought Biden was cooler than cool is cool.

Just watch the Wingers talk about how Biden is a "gaffe machine". Funny how when McSame makes gaffes it "proves his authenticity".

I am sorry, though, that Biden isn't at least 5 years younger, because in 8 years, when he's running as the "incumbent", he'll be 73.

GravatarProgressives cannot win this election without bringing along moderates, independents and the medicare crowd.

Biden helps in all those areas.

GravatarJeez...nothing like a Veep pick to bring all of the concernists out of the wood work.

Not shocking, really.

GravatarAnd I wouldn't only put those emails up as a diary at Orange Satan, where it will 1) be immediately buried, and 2) attract more of the sort of moron that hangs out there. I'd post those names and emails in this comments section, and maybe put it up on your own blog.

I quit checking out Orange Satan some time ago. The responses to that diary are a perfect example why. I esp. like the very first comment, which demands you delete the diary because it doesn't follow the precious Kossack rules. Dear Kossacks: Go fuck yourself.

I hope the Big Pumpkin's fucking book is tanking, too...

Gravatar"the fact that David Brooks wanted and predicted Biden should be very worrisome..."

Why is Brooks so damn likable. It's a dangerous trait in a conservative. You need to check out his performance at the Aspen Institute of Ideas this past summer. May all conservatives be loathsome and repugnant load mouths.

GravatarJoanie, I see it that way.  I always had the sentiment of, whatever candidate is chosen has far more and better things to offer than any Republican and I'm going to work like hell to make sure they're the next residents of the White House.

GravatarWhy Obama and the Dems generally aren't screaming holy hell and running against the most Calamitous and Criminal Administration in American Fricking History is, frankly, beyond me...

GravatarBecause this is redneck America, and they'll lose if they do that.

I agree with the "redneck Amerikkka" part, but that's not why they would lose. The masses don't give a shit about any of the points that matter to Steverino and most of the people here. They really fucking don't. They don't give a fuck about kids having their brains blown out in an illegal war; they don't care about our country wiping its ass with the Geneva conventions; they don't care about the constitution being set aflame. All they care about is who wins American Idol and NASCAR and maybe the price of gas. To win, the Dems have to do what the brownshirts have been doing for the past 30 years: run a completely content-free campaign that's based entirely on imagery and derision. No issues need apply.

Not so much "confess" as it is "brag".

GravatarAnd as to those ads where Biden sez Obama's not ready, for one he was running against him at the time FFS, and two, I'm sure whatever they would have had from Hillary's mouth on that score would have been worse.

And if he really said he'd have been willing to run w/McCain, he canalways say now that that was before he sold out everything he purportedly believes in and became Huggy Bear.

Yes, I get that Biden is a signal to the corporate elite to not fear the black man, that he'll be held firmly in check. That part's obvious.

Obama has always been a centrist.

Obama/diCaprio '08!

GravatarAnd for God's sake, look into the "progressive" thing. Unless there is at least some reduction in the amorphousness of it's meaning, it will go very bad for progressives.

Last time "progressive" was in vogue, they formed a political party, with a platform, and ran candidates. That might be better than having an undefined "progressive" out there, just waiting to be tied around our necks.

Repeating.

I read this morning that Biden is ranked 99th out of 100 senators in wealth. He collected $800. in honoria last year and donated it all to charity. His wife is a teacher and has been active in early detection of breast cancer. Sure, he's not as progressive as I would like, but who is that can get elected.

GravatarThe fact is, most Americans don't give a shit about the Constitution being eroded because it hasn't affected them personally yet. They don't give a shit about all the bombs we've dropped on people or how much the rest of the world hates us for it either, for the same reason. Hell, Obama's big slide in the polls started precisely when he went abroad and enountered all those wildly cheering crowds. What does that tell you? This is a deeply fucked up country, and it will take at least a generation of repair work to fix it.

GravatarIf the Prada Pope

Who dat?

GravatarYes, I have. Different computer, different browser, different platform. Same problem. It's my ISP.
Southern Beale

One more thing. Have you tried hard-coding the DNS IP addresses?

GravatarI guess the Drudge scoop was inaccurate.

Gravatar"Joe's gonna be the Vice President in Charge of Zingers..."

ezra has a cool clip:

http://www.prospect.org/csnc/ blo...den_as_v#108507

GravatarSeasoned political journalist Ron Fournier of AP , who was not even good enough to get a job in the McCain campaign, even after trying to bribe him with donuts is criticizing Obama ....

Fixed ....

GravatarGregg Amdt. No. 3672; To strike a provision relating to market loss assistance for asparagus producers.

That monster!

GravatarHey wait a minute, I grew up a blue-collar Catholic Dem in an urban area...and I'm outspoken.

On closer examination, this Biden guy is a good pick. He'll appeal to a bloc of voters we need in PA, OH, and the midwest.

GravatarPrada makes the Pope's shoes.  Believe they have for quite some time now.

GravatarSoBe it's probably something simple that will make you smack yourself on your haid, V8 style.

I was just railing at the cable company because my phone wasn't working and it was all because I had it plugged in wrong.

GravatarThe Prada Pope used to be Cardinal Josef Ratzinger, before he was whoever he is now as Pope -- He's W and Laura's buddy.

Gravatar"It could have been worse."

With minor modification in tense, the Dems motto since the DLC got their grimey mitts on the party.

steve hüssein® simels

Closely followed by the phrase, "We must keep our powder dry." Presumably moist powder is the worst thing in the world.

GravatarPoor Southern Beale, apparently banned from her own blog!

GravatarThat's my biggest beef with Biden. He doesn't help to tip the balance anyplace important.

You know, there might just be something to be said for someone who has assets that would come into play after that person assumes office.

Sure, Hillary Clinton has a posse. But she's also a lightning rod, and I'd hate to have to try to actually be POTUS with her living at the Naval Observatory waiting for me to die.

GravatarDo you actually listen to the things Obama says? Have you seen any of the latest ads? He's doing that far more than any other Dem candidate in recent memory.
blerb | Homepage | 08.23.08 - 10:55 am | #

Far more than nothing, in other words.

He should be running an angry populist campaign like Gore. Who won, by the way, despite everybody -- including the DLC and the media -- telling him it wouldn't work.

This is a deeply fucked up country, and it will take at least a generation of repair work to fix it.
blerb

A generation? You are an optimist. Americans are eternally stupid, and proud of it.

It took losing WWI and II to finally educate the Germans. Heaven only knows what kind of holocaust it will take to smarten us up.

GravatarBiden might swing PA

If PA really needs swinging, we're already toast. We need to swing Ohio and/or Florida, or else take a handful of previously red mountain states. Can he do that?

GravatarI guess the Drudge scoop was inaccurate.

Los Angeles Times, too ....

This has been a Dewey Defeats Truman moment ....

Gravatar52% of Americans don't know who Mitch McConnell is.

I know who he is and he's a fucking, whining asshole

Flipped your tortilla

Gravatar"My wife is a big Biden fan. She's always liked him and chastises me if I start busting on him."

i'll admit to busting on him. i had no idea he wasn't lining his personal pockets with mbna cash.

i stand corrected.

GravatarI think that he can help in OH.

GravatarSoBe, the LAT is frequently wrong.  I've just accepted it.

GravatarWell, I’m delighted with Obama’s choice. It shows that he was either too smug or frightened to beg for salvation from Her Evil Highness, who will now do everything in her power to derail his candidacy in Denver. In chosing Biden, Obama has abandoned the idea of change that even the twit’s in the MSM will find it difficult to overlook. (Not that they won’t try, but they’ll only succeed in looking even more foolish than they already do.)

GravatarSo Biden has only one house? And who's poorer than Biden?

GravatarHe should be running an angry populist campaign like Gore. Who won, by the way, despite everybody -- including the DLC and the media -- telling him it wouldn't work.
steve hüssein® simels

Now, that's some progressive thought, there.

GravatarHe should be running an angry populist campaign like Gore.

Gore ran as an angry populist against the Clinton administration? Wha? Did somepody slip some acid in your Raisin Bran this morning?

GravatarPrada makes the Pope's shoes. Believe they have for quite some time now.
Sallyh, Grandmere Poissonniere

Oh. I have to know these things so I can argue w/ my extremely RC sil.

GravatarSomeone just told me Biden survived two cerebral hemorrhages? Is that true???

GravatarWell that pasta won't cook itself. Have a good day, moonbats.

GravatarBiden was born in Pennsylvania. He will have an easy time going on tour with Casey and Rendell. I think he makes the state safe.

He also is good with union crowds, helping in Ohio.

Gravatar"He should be running an angry populist campaign like Gore."

you will not see an angry obama.

however, he's been busting mcsame on the stump every day. my problem with him is that it wasn't amplified with national ads, and thought that he shoulda been doing this for the last 6 weeks.

GravatarOkay...I'm off to west-central Wisconsin for the day to visit pa-in-law. If left rev is around, tell him that I'm gonna be in his hood.

See ya tomorrow, folks.

Gravatarsheets.

GravatarBiden is the real 'straight talk express' -- while his tongue gets him into trouble occasionally -- we need someone who can start saying the truth in this campaign -- hope Obama also gets Webb, Clark and others willing to call McCain out on his BS on board and mobilized.

Both Democrats, like most Americans, have made it on their own talents and efforts -- both Bush and McCain are spoiled inept sons of successful men -- and have coasted and been 'kept' and pampered all their lives.

GravatarSomeone just told me Biden survived two cerebral hemorrhages? Is that true???
Southern Beale

I know of one that required surgery.

GravatarPoor Southern Beale, apparently banned from her own blog!
Marcellina

Just because I hate conspiracy theories, I'd still guess it's a technical problem.

GravatarIf the Prada Pope

Who dat?

footloose

Just another name for the Little Nazi Pope. Wait. Is that redundant?

GravatarSomeone just told me Biden survived two cerebral hemorrhages? Is that true???

He had a brain aneurysm that surgeons were able to repair, shortly after his 1988 run for Pres.

GravatarI read this morning that Biden is ranked 99th out of 100 senators in wealth.

The better half mentioned that this morning also. Said he net worth was something like -$300 grand.

I didnt know that.

GravatarGore ran as an angry populist against the Clinton administration? Wha? Did somepody slip some acid in your Raisin Bran this morning?
blerb | Homepage | 08.23.08 - 11:03 am | #

Don't be an ass.

GravatarThey've had me do traceroutes and pings and check my DHCP settings and all sorts of stuff. It's still not working and I'm about to change providers...

Hate to suggest the obvious, but I assume you ran through he whole router schtick?

GravatarSen. Biden's basic critique of Robert Bork was that he was a dangerous extremist because he denied that moral principles could override written law. His basic critique of Clarence Thomas was that he was a dangerous extremist because he affirmed that moral principles could override written law. Some people call Biden thoughtful.

GravatarBig new Silver Suburban pulling out of Biden's driveway.....

GravatarBiden is certainly not going to electrify anybody, and with all the
hype, picking such a bland middle-of-the-roader is quite a letdown, but
it's not exactly a disastrous choice either.

It looks very much to me like the choice of a chap who is afraid of being upstaged.

GravatarWasn't it Biden that put Rudy away by calling him out on the 911 thing?
footloose

Probably what earned his place in history today.

He rolled the dice, attacked Saint Rudy on the Holiest of High Holy Days and guess what? God didn't strike him down.

GravatarSouthron Beale, do you happen to have any programs like ZoneAlarm on your computer?

Gravatar"All it took was a front page article in The New York Times (by Maureen Dowd, no less), to invite the scrum."

Wow. Even back then she was slime. I guess Nedra Pickler has a great future with her own op-ed column.

GravatarIll give the wingnuts about two weeks til they claim that Biden rigged the car crash that killed his wife and child.Remember how Clinton arranged the death of his dog,Buddy?

When it comes to Republican wingnuts the gutter is too high a level.

Gravatarnoun, verb and POW

GravatarWell, at least Joe Biden didn't leave his first wife while she was still alive, like McCain and Dole did - and when are we going to hear more about that "character issue" from the "character counts" wing of the religious/right, anyway? Do they still care, or only when it's a member of the opposition?
