GravatarImpeach Bush Now.

GravatarThrow Cheney in Prison Now. (It is the only way to be sure)

GravatarBring back the Fairness Doctrine and hold people responsible for thier hate speech now.

GravatarAre these guys on Al Qaeda's payroll?

GravatarCat Blogging!!!!! (Also writing on the GOP Cult)

GravatarSmell Nice and Look Pretty -- that's the answer to EVERYTHING!

GravatarGood morning, DWD.

GravatarWhat Atrios said. Plus, they hate us and they want us to die. We're the ones that they imagine going up in flames.

GravatarCoT,

That letter went to registered Democrats.

GravatarWhen they say they want the American people to "wake up," what they mean is that they want the American people to be so terrified that they'll embrace a Bush/Cheney dictatorship without any of this unpleasant whining about the freaking Constitution.

GravatarThey have never seen Al Qaeda as the enemy: religious nuts and oil barons are their side. They have always seen disobedient, irreverent, unafraid, free America as the enemy. And they do hate us for our freedoms: all their lies are slant confessions.

GravatarDems guilty of slowing them down, however, they can always claim

...we TRIED to make America safer, but Nancy Pelosi kept prosecutin us.

GravatarAnyone ever been asked to sign and enter their address into one of those electronic thingys (as in stores) at the post office?

GravatarThat letter went to registered Democrats.

Really? That's even more stupid and fascistic.

GravatarI agree!

GravatarAtrios may be right, but I think the message of the movie Wag the Dog is also relevant.

GravatarIt's an inhuman, unquenchable bloodlust these people have.

GravatarAnyone ever been asked to sign and enter their address into one of those electronic thingys (as in stores) at the post office?

Huh?

GravatarAh Atrios! Still hoping against hope that Americans are rational after all.

One thing that another attack will certainly do is to create support for more dictatorial powers for the President among Repblicans as well as a larger fraction of Democrats and others.

That's why there is longing for another 9/11 from the Republican fearmongers.

GravatarReally? That's even more stupid and fascistic.
Culture of TrÜth

Never underestimate the GOP, my friend.

Also, what did I read about Ken "Ethel" Mehlman yesterday? He's got himself some new consucktant gig?

GravatarI would love to ask that guy how many of his close friends or relatives he would see incinerated to further the republican agenda? Name some names buddy. Your parents, your kids? Any siblings you'd be prepared to say goodbye to forever?

GravatarWhat a bind those poor fascists have gotten themselves into.
If there is never another major attack, the hippies will say there was never any threat to begin with.

And if an attack comes (which they hope for, to be proven right) they will be criticized for not having protected America.
Poor babies! It must be so hard, being a fascist.

GravatarOne thing I've noticed with Magdalaladingdong. Not long ago the dfhs were nothing more than a vocal minority per her world view. She now acknowledges that we're at least half the population. Which means we must be nearing 80%.

GravatarWhat's the rest of that old saying, "If you can keep your head when all about you are losing theirs, ...."?

GravatarAtrios is certainly right, and if this were about reason that would be an end to it.

But it's about terror. And that's why they call it "terror."

GravatarHuh?

Exactly. I just picked up a package at the p.o. Ordinarily, you just show ID, give them the slip, and go. They scan the bar code on the package to show that it's been picked up. But today they did all of the above, plus I had to sign this thing and write my name and address in it.

Nice, huh?

GravatarOh, I bet Madingaling is going to descend on New Jersey now. The suspect in those execution-style murders is here illegally.

GravatarIt's dependent on the class of postage the sender used, isn't it?

Gravatar"all their lies are slant confessions"

Bingo.

GravatarBut it's about terror. And that's why they call it "terror."
SteveLG

Ayup

And with that tasteless blogwhore, I am off for my first nap of the day.

Enjoy the morning, bats.

GravatarSo if a massive terrorist attack happened, it wouldn't be a vindication of what they've been doing, it would be proof that they failed to do what George Bush claims is his most important job.

You're dreamin' Atrios. I know I'm in the minority on how the Nation might react and I've posted here numerous times (and been flamed).
It doesn't have to be massive. There no longer is a distinction. 3,000 or 3 dead Americans at the hands of Muslim extremists will be equivalent.
I've given my reasons before so I'll spare you'all now from having to read them.
Ultimately, any terrorist attack in the USA WILL be good news for Bush and his lackeys. Just watch.
.

GravatarOh, I bet Madingaling is going to descend on New Jersey now...

Uff. She was on C-SPAN last night... I wasn't even half drunk enough to watch.

GravatarThe oldest suspect in Newark was also sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl for a long period of time.
He'll be "made an example of", I feel sure.

Gravatarres,

It depends on the sender. For an additional fee, the sender can require a signature for proff of delivery. NBD...

Gravatar"But if some sort of terrorist attack happens, it's their people who will have failed to stop it. Despite our best efforts, we haven't managed to impact Bush administration policy on this stuff at all."

This is the key, and it's one I've heard nothing about anywhere else, other than maybe other lefty blogs - On who's watch did Sept. 11 happen? In other words, which Administration failed to stop it? That being said, how can this bunch campaign successfully on 9-11 and "terra" when they are the same fucking losers who dropped the ball in the first place? So not only do they drop the ball and fail to prevent 9-11, they then use there own failure to justify pissing on the Constitution in furthering their fascist dictatorship's goals?

What is it that people don't get about this???

GravatarLou Dobbs is going to go batshit insane. More so, that is.
3rd Suspect Held in Newark Killings
The authorities revealed that he is an illegal immigrant from Peru who could have been detained by federal authorities after one of his two previous arrests in the past year. Instead, the immigrant, Jose Lachira Carranza, a 28-year-old construction worker, was free on $150,000 bail at the time of the killings last week, despite pending felony charges of aggravated assault and sexual abuse of a child.

GravatarIt depends on the sender.

Ah, okay. Thanks. I was feeling a bit paranoid. Had never seen this before.

GravatarWell if that's true, plantsman, I have no problem with him being made an example of.

GravatarGorgeous picture of tomatoes, Atrios!

GravatarOT: I jes' loves me morning "Maxfield Parrish" Sunlight!

GravatarOh, OK, you were picking up a certified mail package with return receipt. That makes sense.

and yes, something wacky is going on at the post office. i've been complaining about their demands for more ID, more limitations on what can be sent without going to the counter, etc. Something's up. I wonder what becomes of the register of electronic signatures.

GravatarYeah, those tomatoes are incredible. How many kinds of tomatoes do we get here?

I wanna live in Yurp.

Ah, you see it's the "First Year Rule". Because America was attacked during the first year of the Bush Administration it's the previous administration's fault. Clinton.

Of course, the first year rule is inapplicable in the case of the 1993 WTC attack, which is still Clinton's fault because of single term exception to the first year rule... Bush 41 was a single term president, so all attacks are the responsibility of the incoming administration. Clinton.

I trust this clears things up for you.

GravatarIs there a farmer's market in Manhattan, res?

Who's going to go on the air and criticize the Bush cabal with 10 Americans on a commuter bus reduced to ashes at the hands of a suicide bomber?
No one. It would be career suicide whether journalistic or political.

GravatarYes, there are a bunch of farmers' markets and they have different varieties, but not that many different varieties.

GravatarSome of those tomatoes are clearly related to "Black Krims" and heirloom varieties we can get in the States at decent places.

GravatarThe French have their own watertiger.

GravatarThe Democrats decision to "rally around the flag" after 9/11 assisted Bush in turning his inexcusable failure into an enduring advantage. All that praise for Bush's post 9/11 leadership was not only sickening, but foolishly suicidal.

GravatarMorning all.

If Atrios' point is that we're fucked, I agree.

Meanwhile, I'm watching the Flash Gordon pilot.

Talk to you when its over...

GravatarListen, if there is a terrorist attack in the last year of Chimpy McFuckStick's administration it will still be Bill Clinton's (penis') fault.

GravatarI like it when Atrios has a little fire in his belly!

GravatarI've already written a letter this morning to my local gardening columnist, complaining about this answer she gave in the paper:
Q: I grow herbs for eating and to use as a garnish in planters on my deck, and one is parsley. There is a green/white very ugly striped worm or caterpillar that feasts on the parsley. What is this creature, where does it come from and how do I get rid of it?

T.O., Ocean Township

A: They are the progeny of the black swallowtail butterfly. Dust the plants with Bt, and the pests will die of indigestion at first bite. Brands of Bt (Bacillus thuringiensis) include Dipel and Thuricide.

GravatarDropped back in for a mo (lemon muffins turned out well).

Unfortunately, Truth (as in Atrios' explanation of the state of things) is a quadrapelegic, while Propaganda runs on light feet.

The spin machine will ooomm-pa-pa the message "Bushco was protecting you! But needs more powers to do so! And lynch the anti-Bush people - they are enemies!" until it becomes the common wisdom - or at least, until no one dares say anything else for fear of the lynching.

Why do you think that everyone in the Soviet Union recited the Party line so well right up to the end, when no one there had believed a single bejeweled word since maybe 1970?

Fear, and the knowledge that the first one to say the Emperor is butt-naked will get taken off by the (Blackwater)Praetorian Guard.

Agreed. Which is why the Ratwing's takeover of the media is probably their most lasting and damaging legacy (running close with SCOTUS, anyway). IMO, the only way to counter this is to push internet news/opinion sites to the forefront at the expense of corporate television and newspapers. As much as I personally lament the death of the newspaper (not so much TV news), Old media is utterly corrupted by Ratwing influences. As broadband availability increases, more and more people are gonna say, who needs TV anyway? We need to take advantage of this trend.

I bought a bunch of crookneck squash and an excellent watermelon from an old man selling them out of the back of his truck, in a rather sketchy part of Asbury Park. I think he undercharged me-when I got home I had 10 little squashes for $2.00?

GravatarIt is bad advice, from an ancient mind-set. I was once on a call-in radio garden show, and fielded a call from a woman who was determined to douse a lilac with chemical weapons, no matter what the perceived problem and solution were. Talking her down from that was nearly impossible!

From CNN:
Department of Homeland Security spokesman Russ Knocke said, "We consider this threat to be unsubstantiated."

"There continues to be no credible or specific information telling us of an imminent threat to the homeland," Knocke said. "There is no substantial uptick in chatter. We are hearing more because we are better at collecting than we were in the summer of 2001."

But Knocke said his department supported New York's decision to take precautionary measures.

Officer Jason Lee, a spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department, said, "LAPD has not heard of any threats and is not aware of any warning on a federal, state or local level at this time."

Miami FBI Special Agent Judy Orihuela said, "We consider this to be of very very low credibility, and we're not doing anything differently in Miami." E-mail to a friend E-mail to a friend

Not if he wanted to be rid of them.

Squash around here thinks it's a weed. You plant squash, pretty soon you have so much squash you have eaten fresh, and canned, and sold, and given away, and the squash just keeps coming. Soon enough you are sick to death of squash, and like the Terminator, it never stops.

He might have given you more for $2.00, if you had asked.

Republican presidential hopeful Rudy Giuliani said Friday that he misspoke when he said he spent as much time, if not more, at ground zero exposed to the same health risks as workers combing the site after the Sept. 11 attacks.

"I think I could have said it better," he told nationally syndicated radio host Mike Gallagher. "You know, what I was saying was, 'I'm there with you.'"

Somehow, I don't think that we'll be hearing over and over the "telling anecdote" about how Rudy lied and said he worked all the time clearing 9/11 debris. It's not as if he said that he'd invented the internet.

Culture of TrÜth

If there is "another terrorist attack on the US" (meaning, another staged false flag event), most will blame the Bush Administration. Most of the people on this website, in their criticism of other Americans' ignorance for what they assume would be an erroneous assumption in the assessment of blame, are implicitly blaming the Bushies. This is only logical, as it has become obvious who would stand to gain from another "attack", and that is the same people who have blatantly exploited the last one. This is the only thing keeping another attack from happening. The Bushies do not know how we'd react. After the water pipe blew up in Manhattan, according to Randi Rhoads, people were flooding the streets traumatized, screaming "fuck Bush!!", as if he were directly responsible, and as if they were anticipating another attack for precisely this reason. The possibility of widespread civil unrest in the event of a "terrorist attack" cannot be discounted given what has become common knowledge about the last one.

GravatarIf the Conservatives can't function while the DFH's are complaining...

...how do they think they can take out Al Qaeda?

GravatarIf there is another terrorist attack, what do the conservatives think Bush could do in reaction? Invade another country? Given the success of his actions after 9/11, do the conservatives really think Bush is going to do something that's going to make things better?

I think they want more death in order to strengthen the numbers on their "side" - that's their idea of "unity" - it's all part of the horse-race.

But it still a mystery to me - what do they think will be the actual result of another terrorist attack - expanding the war?

How do they suppose that will go?

I can't understand these people.

Gravatar...it would be proof that they failed to do what George Bush claims is his most important job.

In the real world, that might be the case. But here in Wackyland, it will just be further proof that everything is the Democrats' fault.

Fact it, for the last six years these guys should have been shuffling their feet and mumbling, "Hey, how 'bout those Knicks!" every time 9/11 was discussed. Instead they proudly and relentlessly trumpet their most grotesque failure as a strength.

Go figure.

GravatarThere's already been a mass slaughter of OVER 655,000 civilians and at least 3684 military already. I guess that doesn't count.

GravatarBack around 1967 at a 4-H conservation camp I heard an earnest young guy go on about how the country needed a nuclear attack by the Rooskies -- 10 million deaths or so by his estimates -- to wake up the American people to the need to deal decisively with the commies. These new guys are recycling the same mentality.

GravatarThe google search optimization you have been working on for years has really paid off. #1 winner for Dirty Fucking Hippie? Atrios, of course.

GravatarA mass terror attack would be the ultimate vindication of President Bush's guiding philosophy: that fighting terrorism is job #1 for America. The American people have allowed themselves to be distracted from this all-important mission. They were led astray last November by venal Democrat politicians who falsely promised them an easy way out of the hard choices that this nation must face. Consequently President Bush's antiterrorist program has been treachorously sabotaged from within and a mass casualty terrorist strike would be just desserts in retribution. But on the positive side it would finally unmask the liberal fifth column which has been undermining our nation. The gloves would really come off and President Bush and Vice President Cheney would obtain the freedom of action to deal not only with external threats but also with the moral filth and internal treachery which is an even more mortal threat to our national existence.
