GravatarDeacon Blues, aargh. Another song that burns my hair cells.

GravatarWho's the wind beneath those wings? Hmmm?

I think it's being generated by the flapping of a lame duck's wings.

Sort of a wing-to-wing assist thing.

GravatarIt's a good plan. Who could complain?

GravatarCrappy shoes? That's what's been missing from all the shoe throwing commentary. A liberal, as in generous, glob off dogshit on the heel when throwing at Bush.

GravatarPast my bedtime.  I'm sure I'll have pleasant dreams filled with horrible music.  Thanks, Atriots!

Gravatarstill upper 40's here, heading to 16 tomorrow.

GravatarBo, I would never throw my Manolos at anyone.

I just think about how many hours I had to work to pay for them.

You might get me to part with my Target clogs, however.

GravatarPast my bedtime. I'm sure I'll have pleasant dreams filled with horrible music. Thanks, Atriots!

Far better than the reverse no doubt.

GravatarFucking cowards.

The invasion came under cover of darkness around 8 p.m., after electricity was cut to much of the strip. Teams of soldiers with night-vision goggles advanced on foot, while others traveled in tanks and armored personnel carriers. The only light came from Israeli flares that periodically illuminated the sky, and from the towers of bright orange flame that followed missile strikes, revealing scenes of devastation on the ground.

How can anybody think this is right?

GravatarEwwww....Smashing Pumpkins, simels' favorite band, just came on my Pandora station.

GravatarEvenin' Atriots. What be shakin?

GravatarThe best rendition of 'Feelings' was the executioner's as the first 'Shrek' movie closed. Very brief. Could have been even shorter, though.

I like 'Edmund Fitzgerald' a lot, actually. I'm a bad person.

'Wildfire' and 'Loving You' and 'Muskrat Love' come to mind, and I wish they wouldn't....

GravatarBush would never rate anyone's Manalos.

GravatarI thought Simels' favorite band was the Marcus Hook Roll Band?

Gravatarwhat is the airspeed of a swallow?

European?

GravatarI don't care that it's a new thread:

"Treat'er like a lady", by Cornelius Brothers and Sister Rose.

Genius, pure fuckin' genius.

Great song. And whoever was apologizing for liking Paul Revere & The Raiders below need not - a severly underrated band, even if they did wear silly Revolutionary War costumes...

Gravatar"Treat'er like a lady",

not bad. how about Wives & Lovers?

GravatarHow can anybody think this is right?
HoneyBearKellyGoGiants

it's not right.

Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.

GravatarI like 'Edmund Fitzgerald' a lot, actually. I'm a bad person.

'Wildfire' and 'Loving You' and 'Muskrat Love' come to mind, and I wish they wouldn't....
ProfWombat

Prof...please. Control yourself.

GravatarI'm told there is a difference, but of course, that's ridiculous.

GravatarCan anyone explain why the media and the country is going nuts over a two bit punk from Chicago trying to pawn off senate seat while ADMITTED WAR CRIMINALS occupy he fucking white house?

The whole thing with Blago is starting to smell funny, anyhow. Is that all they have, him being a jackass on the phone? Fitzgerald should put up or shut up. Frankly, after the way he let Cheney walk away from the Plame affair, I think he's a tool.

Gravatar"what is the airspeed of a swallow?"

I'll put in a call to Linda Lovelace.

GravatarHey Barry, how is Miss Hidey?
Sallyh, Sad Grandmere

She just came back home about 2 hours ago, doing pretty good. Getting some electric blanket and lap time.

GravatarI like 'Edmund Fitzgerald' a lot, actually. I'm a bad person.

People simply forget that Lightfoot was a Canadian folkie from the start. "Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald" was very much in that tradition. If he'd stuck to such stuff exclusively, he'd probably have about the same exposure and audience as, say, Stan Rogers or Bill Stains.

But, he had enough tunes cross over that "Edmund Fitzgerald" seemed wrong to a lot of people, even though it's much in the mold of Lightfoot's earlier tunes, such as "Canadian Railroad Trilogy."

GravatarGoddamn, they hit hard in the NFL.

GravatarPaul Revere and the Raiders had a teebee show in the afternoons when I was a teen. I used to watch it every day right before Dark Shadows.

GravatarFitzpatrick asking for more time certainly is not helping the whole situation stay off the smell-o-meter.

Gravatar"Don't Pull Your Love" by Hamilton, Joe-Frank and Reynolds has to be the dumbest fuckin' song title by the group with the strangest fuckin' name.

Gravatar Barry fom Alaska: She just came back home about 2 hours ago, doing pretty good. Getting some electric blanket and lap time.

Awwww. Be well, Hidey!

Gravatar"Fitzgerald should put up or shut up. Frankly, after the way he let Cheney walk away from the Plame affair, I think he's a tool."

Word. Remember all the calls for Fitzmas? Still waiting. Blag is definitely giving cover.

GravatarGoddamn, they hit hard in the NFL.

Gravatarmontag: Lightfoot's 'Early Morning Rain' is one of my favorites, has been for 40 years:

This old airport's got me down; it ain't no earthly good to me
'Cause I'm stuck here on the ground as cold and drunk as I can be
You can't jump a jet plane like you can a freight train
So I'd best be on my way in the early morning rain

GravatarI'm Going To Catch That Horse.

Love the Byrds, hated that song.

Gravatar"Fitzpatrick asking for more time certainly is not helping the whole situation stay off the smell-o-meter."

GravatarI loved the Byrds. And the Yardbirds.

I have spent entire afternoons picking out the separate guitar overdubs on "Beautiful".

That song makes me melancholy. Reminds me of Seattle for some reason.

Gravatar328 yards for Sproles.

GravatarWish I still had my Mimi and Richard Farina record.

I still have "Celebrations For a Grey Day."

GravatarI'm not a Colts fan, but the refs ABSOLUTELY FUCKING GAVE THE GAME TO THE BOLTS!!!

3 ticky tack penalties in the last drive!
A holding call on the defensive lineman that was bullshit!
Unfuckingbelievable!

GravatarFitz has plenty. He just wants to make sure he puts forth the strongest case with the most indictments. I read over some of his accomplishments the other day...he rarely charges something he doesn't convict on.

For I am a wild and a lonely child and the son of an angry land
And now with the high wars raging I would offer you my hand
For we are the children of darkness and the prey of a foul command

Once the clouds I sailed upon were sweet as lilac wine
Why have the breezes of summer dear been laced with a grim design

GravatarSorry. He's stalling for a reason. If his track record is as you say, he should have had it before he filed. That was HIS choice and timing. He's called off the Ill legislature, asking them not to impeach while he dicks around. This is beginning to smell. Couple this with letting

I don't doubt it.

Actually, it always seems like the same basically innocuous seventies tunes get picked. I'd argue that "Lovin' You" is better than 90% of the output of Sonic Youth and Pavement, and 100% better than anything by the Silver Jews or the Mountain Goats.

GravatarI was rootin' for the Colts, but in all candor they were lucky to make it to overtime. There were two very fortunate plays in or near the end zone for the Colts.

And three first downs on penalties on the last drive of the game (in overtime.) I mean, they gave the game away.

Finally, I don't understand why, especially in playoff games, there's this idiotic sudden death. Why not play fifteen minutes so that the team that wins the toss does not necessarily win the game?

Oh the falcon is a pretty bird wandered as she flew
She danced around and pranced around wherever the warm winds blew
And the falcon is a pretty bird her voice was always still
But men with drums and men with guns they taught her how to kill

Her eye was on the sparrow her mind was on the dove
But no one cared and no one dared to speak to her of love
Her eyes are always hooded her claws are sharp as steel
We teach her not to see too much we teach her not to feel

No. I disagree. There are some here who still interpret any criticism of the Israel government as anti-Semitism.

There's a crucial and important difference between anti-Semitism and legitimate disapproval of a government's behavior--especially when the governments of the U.S. and Israel are as tightly intertwined as they are today. That makes it our business, too.

So, it's more likely that people here are not expressing a generalized and blanket anti-Semitism. They are saying, however, that the disproportionate responses and collective punishment engaged in by the government of Israel is unacceptable.

GravatarHere's the rest of the song:

Go build you a log cabin on a mountain so high
And hear the feathered war-birds yell as she goes screaming by
She'll tease you she'll please you she'll satisfy your needs
But someday she might turn around and maul the hand that feeds

Your hours might be numbered your end might come someday
Go break her chain and free her brain and send her on her way
And the falcon is a pretty bird wonders as she flies
She asks us easy questions we tell her easy lies

I don't think they view the falcon as innocuous, but they do see a moral difference between man's use of them in war and their natural predatory ways.

Commenters or front page posts?

GravatarBrings to mind Robinson Jeffers' 'Hurt Hawks':

I'd sooner, except the penalties, kill a man than a hawk;
but the great redtail
Had nothing left but unable misery
From the bone too shattered for mending, the wing that trailed under his talons when he moved.

We had fed him six weeks, I gave him freedom,
He wandered over the foreland hill and returned in the evening, asking for death,
Not like a beggar, still eyed with the old
Implacable arrogance.

I gave him the lead gift in the twilight.
What fell was relaxed, Owl-downy, soft feminine feathers; but what
Soared: the fierce rush: the night-herons by the flooded river cried fear at its rising
Before it was quite unsheathed from reality.

The Kenosha Kid

But, you agree, they are atrocities, correct?
Of course they're not exactly like any other atrocities, but share some similarities, especially regarding a pre-concentration camp Warsaw ghetto. Similar in the collective punishment nature of it, the apartheid-like structure, the isolation through walls, checkpoints, assassination, former IDF testifying to torture, etc.

YOur second point is predicated on the idea that there is no such thing as cause and effect, therefore it's to be discounted...

In college and high school football, as well as the Canadian Football League, an overtime procedure is used to determine the winner. This method is sometimes referred to as a "Kansas Playoff," or "Kansas Plan" because of its origins for high school football in that state.

It's typically 30 frames per second, 640 x 480 AVI or MOV files, but it's still interesting unless you've got a high quality small video cam. Gravatar1. Israel's government, Israel's population, Israeli Jews, American Jews, AIPAC, Likud and Zionism are all quite separate things, as are Islam, Hamas, Al Qaeda, Fatah, Wahhabi Islam, Shi'a Islam, Sunni Islam and so on.

2. Violence begets more violence in the Middle East, as elsewhere and elsewhen. It takes courage to refrain from it when faced with it. GravatarI think Dr. Terwilliker can easily be blamed for spawning some of this violence.
-

GravatarIt's perfectly reasonable for Israel to try to stop the rain of missiles from Gaza.

The bombing does not seem to me either effective or reasonable. In principle the invasion could actually be less destructive, but it depends a great deal on the skill of the invaders and the forbearance of the invaded.

I have no idea how to handle this. I don't blame the Israeli government for taking action, but this particular action seems to me unlikely to do what they want, and likely to generate a new (or perhaps, a larger) generation of people who want to harm Israel.

GravatarIf you have more power, a strong military, more money and stronger allies, you have more freedom of action than if you are dirt-poor, disorganized, poorly armed and equipped, ill educated, backed in haphazard manner by powers with their own domestic ills and agendas and like that. Sadly, when it's such an asymmetrical environment--a few Israelis dead, hundreds of Palestinians; a few billion in military aid to Israel, a few hundred million in economic aid to the PA--it's not entirely unreasonable to expect the folks with the big guns to stop oppressing and killing the oppressed, further developing matrices of control, etc.

GravatarBTW, it's Bush's fault that Hamas is even in charge in the first place.

Bush is such an asswipe.

The truly ironic thing about this is that the Israelis originally supported Hamas, helped its development, as a means of blunting the influence of the more secular PLO, as a sort of divide and conquer strategy, just as it had done to a lesser degree with Hezbollah in Lebanon.

I think it's usually pretty safe to place most of the blame on the people who have most of the power. And to consider whether and how they benefit from the ugly situations they always seem to find themselves in.

It's pretty easy to look at the US hard right that way. I don't see why the same logic shouldn't apply to the Israeli hard right.

GravatarNTodd: entirely agreed that nonviolence is more an option for the strong. That's very much part of what I'm saying, though I'd add, and would guess you'd agree, that there are many forms of strength, and challenges confronting oppressors as well as the oppressed. This stuff is deadly serious, and wicked hard to be glib about such that it fits into a well-crafted paragraph of bloggy goodness.

I deeply admire McReynolds, too; he's been around a long time...

Gravatarhyperbolic historical analogies don't contribute to understanding the current situation.

Oppression is oppression. It's not hyperbole to call it thus. Gaza is a ghetto, writ large.

What doesn't contribute to understanding the current situation is crying antisemitism if people dare speak critically of the Jewish State.

Now, let's consider the US in Iraq..."insurgents" there are outgunned and liberals, et al, think the US has to be the bigger person and withdraw. Why is that not the same filter to apply to the IP conflict?

GravatarWell, goodnight all. I'm hopin' that Manning the Younger has a better game than Manning the Elder.

Yep.

Look at the situation back in 1999 - things were fairly peaceful (hell, Bethlehem had tourists for the millenium) and it looked like things were heading toward a two-state solution at long last.

So what happens? fucking Ariel Sharon goes to the Temple Mount in 2000 and blows the whole thing up.

What I was trying to say, Mrs I A-J, is this: Bombs do not discriminate. Five daughters were killed a few days ago. My perhaps naive belief is that a IDF soldier would not willingly shoot five little girls.

It could be that some in Gaza are not very happy that Hamas is lobbing missiles at Israel, but that they are fearful of standing up against this stuff. Those Gazans might like nothing better than for the cops to come and throw the artillery guys into the brig.

I do not know if the IDF will act as cops, but I do think they could be less destructive than bombs. That doesn't mean they will be. But I have to hope for the least terrible outcome of a bad situation.

GravatarFourlegs, Sallyh, okay. I love kittehs. More kittehs, less rockets.

GravatarI do think much of the problem continues as it has because of the tight linkage between the right wing in Israel and the right wing in this country. There are just too many similarities to ignore (see a long comment of mine to that effect here a day or two ago).

The Forward did a survey a couple of years ago, and found that most (roughly 70%) had very moderate views toward Israel and saw peace as an absolute necessity--for Israel's good--even if it meant giving up land taken by force.

Not at all oddly, about the same percentage identified themselves as liberals, Democrats, or the equivalent.

The right wing can only keep power (as we've seen here in the 2004 election) by scaring the bejesus out of the people, and furthering the very circumstances that bring them to power. I don't see much difference in tactics there or here, except that here, even liberal politicians are inclined to bend to right-wing views, because of a longstanding foreign policy posture of the United States to treat Israel as its very own bulldog on a long chain in the Middle East (a policy that's been in place ever since the U.S. suspected that Israel had begun production of nuclear weapons).

One thing for sure, though. Both the United States and Israel will probably destroy themselves, from within, if they continue thinking that overwhelming arms and the use of overwhelming force are the only path to safety and security.

Gravatarsallyh: some of those movies have plots that revolve around the absence of plot. I wind up renting a Bruce Lee/Basil Rathbone double feature sometimes if overexposed, just to get a sense of linear narrative restored...

I definitely think that's a big part of it. And the terms of debate have an eerie tendency to justify actions like these, IMO. Taking governmental calls for "security" at face value is not always wise.

My default position is that what looks like the breakdown of the system is the system functioning as intended. It's not always true, but it seems to me like the best assumption to start from.

GravatarMP: quite well; Costa Rica doesn't have a standing army...

Gravatar

I think it's all woven together. In Israel today, one in four jobs depends upon either the IDF, arms production or arms sales.

Here, about sixty percent of all manufacturing assets are owned by corporations doing business with the Pentagon.

I do think safety and security are part of the equation, though. The powerful and the wealthy have the most to lose in any sudden upset, foreign or domestic, of the political status quo. That's why I think many views in this country that we ordinarily consider maniacal are, from the perspective of those whose wealth or power is potentially threatened, utterly necessary.

The wealthy in this country were greatly fearful of Bolshevism. They'd lose their money and power if such happened here. Hence, even ninety years ago, people like Hoover were making their bones on things like planning the Palmer Raids....

Of course liberals are complicit. The right demands policies that are bloodthirsty, and liberals tone them down just enough to put a human, "compassionate" face on them.

They play other roles, too, in other areas, some of which are more laudable than that. But in terms of "maintaining empire," liberals are absolutely complicit; it wouldn't be possible without them, IMO.

Every other American is complicit too, of course, but not at the policy level.

Well, if you came to power by promising to defend the citizenry from terrorism, is it to your advantage to maintain a steady supply of terrorists against which to wage neverending war?

Is that not what's happened by this country's government in the last seven years? The "war on terror" will go on for decades, and yet, that war on an abstraction has been instrumental in creating more of the terrorists necessary to wage that war....

How very circular, and how very convenient for a particular political class....

It's a bit more than that, and the Reich collapsed, with a Jewish State now in existence. The Final Solution was supposed to be the total eradication of Jewry in Europe. Sorry, but it didn't work.

And if the Balts and many Poles and Russians had been willing to risk their lives to help their jewish neighbors instead of collaborating with the Nazis we'd be discussing fantasy, not actual history.

It's called learning lessons. I'm not revising history, I'm saying what can be gleaned from it. Collective action works if there is, you know, a collection of people acting. The individuals and organizations that did act did good, and if we worked harder to foster a willingness to do so there will be greater success.

You keep defending yourself against an accusation I have not made.

Actually, I am not defending myself. Yet you have, on these boards, called people haters of Jews. Sorry about your luck.

Sure. But that's very different from what the words "safety and security" imply in the average newspaper. It's more a matter of avoiding payback than protecting innocent lives, or what have you.

GravatarThat's putting it charitably... I would have guessed "willful thickheadedness".

Try "fucking idiot"

Gravatar"R U CERTAIN that they aren't actually baby aliens?"

Well then I am merrily culling the herd.

GravatarEvery other American is complicit too, of course, but not at the policy level.

---

not true. there are those who have stood on principle without morally equivocating with an eye to 'consequences'. 1) there need to be more people like that and 2) there need to be fewer people who look upon the sort as though the damages incurred are de facto proof of being on the wrong side of the struggle.

gah. that kind of adherence to the status quo is killing all of us.

GravatarEk, 2% milk is as far down as it goes at Chez H.

The kids took the chocolate cake home last night.

ooooh!!

carrot cake! with cream cheese icing!!

GravatarProfWombat, carrot cake.

I still have a bar of cream cheese left and it hasn't expired

GravatarThe US lost in Vietnam.
NTodd, Trollson

I believe his point is that, in fact, the US DID NOT lose in Vietnam. As Chomsky points out (got that phila?), what the US did to Vietnam was successful in that it demonstrated that the US would go to any length to project its hegemony, including the near extermination of an entire peasant society.
That we were forced out is irrelevant. What matters is that we can bomb anybody we want into oblivion.
In that regard, we always "win."

Gravatar4LG: important to get those trans fats into your diet...

Gravatarcarrot cake! with cream cheese icing!!

Win.

I'm off to finish my giant hamburger.

Ranch dressing also goes well with baby aliens.

GravatarWhat's tedious is having to finally get this out of you after months of pulling teeth.

Gravatar"Ek, 2% milk is as far down as it goes at Chez H.

I still have the sweet tooth. But I have developed a fresh fruit fetish again over the last couple of years with an emphasis on apples. But during this time of year it is hard to find good ones on a regular basis. I found carrots seem to be a reasonable substitute.

GravatarProfWombat, I was thinking of you as I made homemade caramel sauce on Christmas Eve.

The vanilla ice cream was simply a delivery vehicle.

Gravatarsallyh: a woman after my own, er, heart, I guess...

GravatarSee, what makes you such an incredibly tedious person is that you're always mistaking the utterly fucking obvious for your own private epiphany.

NSA Annoy Trollbot Designers everywhere curse you for figuring out their patent-pending coding advance. until the patent is granted they will maintain radio silence, but once the United States Patent Office makes an official, recorded determination you are a dead man. do you hear them? a dead man.

GravatarActually I do haz a box of Longhorns squirreled away.

I haz to hide my chocolate from teh niece.

Oh, Ehud Barak is on mah teevee claiming to be a "peace seeker"

glad he cleared that up.

We couldn't even lose gracefully. We were tossing choppers over the side of aircraft carriers, in order to make room for more coming in.

GravatarWhat's tedious is having to finally get this out of you after months of pulling teeth.
Elias | 01.04.09 - 1:06 am | #

That's exactly why you're so fucking tedious. Typically ideological, the "win" is important to you. The unfortunate truth is that you're a moron, a political fundie, spewing simple-minded shit, most of which is wrong.

GravatarGotta get that caramel sauce up there somehow.

Whole civilizations have fallen when they failed to meet this challenge to the heart, soul and intellect with sufficient puissance...

Dat's the "baby corn". I think they try and make us feel guilty for eating Chinese food.

GravatarEk, one of the nicest things about living where I do is that apples are available year round, and generally of good quality.

We have some Pink Ladies and Honey Crisps, both delicious.

I've said it countless times here. I also have a blog that routinely criticizes the role of liberals in American politics in precisely the same terms, including your bete noir Obama. Anyone who's foolish enough to be interested in my opinions can easily get a bellyful there.

In other words, you can blow me 'til I squirt blood, you nattering fraud.

GravatarProfWombat, civilizations based on caramel sauce would be at least as successful as those based on other ideas.

I use tofu cream cheese.
You know what Sue Johannson says about veggy men, don't you?

"Tastes nutty!"

GravatarT4TN, I actually steamed some baby corn, snap peas and baby carrots tonight. But that was for dinner, not decadent munching

Gravatarbill b: smaller portions, daily exercise, even a ten min. walk. Nothing more. that'll do it.

Stupid is not the same as dirty.

You play stupid.

GravatarWe were humiliated from Vietnam, as well we should have been.

We spent 55,000 young Americans on a failed foreign policy.

GravatarHere's one of those opinions Elias had to beat out of me, 'cause I persist in hiding my light under a bushel:

Having been shocked by the Reverend Jeremiah Wright, who has said things that would be unthinkable even (or especially) if they were true, we're now well on the road to recovery, thanks to Obama's speech on racism, wherein he distances himself from Wright's "profoundly distorted view of this country," while espousing the healing doctrines of American exceptionalism and business as usual in the Middle East....

In my view, this brings us back inescapably to Obama's vow to combat "the hateful ideologies of radical Islam" (and to defend our staunch ally Israel, and so forth), the very possibility of which requires perpetuating the victimization and racial paranoia and economic stress that Obama decries...to say nothing of the monolithic, undeconstructible faith in our essential "goodness and greatness" that he offers as an antidote to Wright's dour fixation on the people we've killed and tortured despite our generally good intentions.

Let's get over what we've done, so we can do it again, in pursuit of a world that will redeem the bones on which it was built.

Gravatarsend me to Jazz Fest for my birthday

now there's a prize. a great and glorious party, music, drink, foo... no, wait.

seriously, the bestest of times, all American taxpayers must go to Jazz fest, etc...

the 2nd weekend is always better

GravatarSpeaking of personal epiphanies, conversations this morning sparked a couple of memories and strung a few things together.

Wife and I were discussing it and ended up with a question.

Can a former student request all materials, files etc. related to that student that were generated during his school years?

Gravatar(Sorry, I play dirty.)

Isn't it pretty to think so?

GravatarWombat,

Exercise is the missing component. Have been eating properly for some time, rarely drink anymore, and aside from demolishing a cheesecake on New Year's eve, take it pretty easy on the sweets. But I haven't had a gym-compatible schedule in a while, and it shows.

GravatarIt's a bit more than that, and the Reich collapsed, with a Jewish State now in existence. The Final Solution was supposed to be the total eradication of Jewry in Europe. Sorry, but it didn't work.

The Jewish state is not in Europe. What was Jewish Europe in 1925 is utterly gone.

Actually, I am not defending myself. Yet you have, on these boards, called people haters of Jews. Sorry about your luck.

Oh sure. When people "explain" that the "chosen people" think God gave them rights to murder everyone in their path, I will call them anti-semitic.

Hiroshima, of course, worked.

Yes, I'm sure the Japanese feel the same way. Your humanity is certainly in evidence.

"works" is a functional description, not a moral judgement.

No fucking shit. I've observed, as have others, that there's another fucking lesson to learn. Learn that Hitler lost. Tojo lost. The US lost in Vietnam. The Soviets lost in Afghanistan. The British lost in India. Subjugating a population doesn't win.

But "decadent" didn't come to mind with the corn. But it came close with the potstickers and a soy/Chinese vinegar/ hot chili sauce and all that.

Which I may have to have ..tomorrow..

Yes, let's. Or we can live is fundy fantasyland, like you.

It's not a real choice.

GravatarWright's dour fixation on the people we've killed and tortured despite our generally good intentions.

---

Exactly. But like the Chomsky quote on the other thread stated (paraphrased), discourse is constricted to shallow talking points that don't really matter one way or another. Notice how TradMed buried as "radical" what Wright was saying.

Shorter abashed yet comfortable TradMed:
We can't go there or someone's gonna get hurt.

Pathetic.
