Today
The two tracking polls for Saturday have been released. Gallup shows Obama 47%-45% McCain, down from Obama 48%--44% McCain the day before. Rasmussen shows Obama 49%--46% McCain, which is actually an increase of 1% for Obama from yesterday's 48%--46%. The Diageo tracking poll, which yesterday showed Obama ahead 46%-40%, is not released on Saturdays and Sunday...
The American people don't have much choice, but they're sure not going to choose a third Bush term, Woot.

She had the misfortune to run against Barack in a primary for the Senate. She was asked, "What are his weaknesses?" She just sighed. Very Creepy promotional video for a Wasilla Assembly of God Master’s Commission workshop.
When you watch this video REMEMBER…this was Sarah Palin’s church for nearly her entire life.
The man in the leather jacket donning a goatee was Sarah Palin’s pastor from 1999 till 2002.
This is the same workshop that Sarah Palin is addressing in the now widely seen footage in which she talks about God’s plan for Iraq, and asks people to pray for a new oil pipeline. The pastor who introduces her in that video is the same goatee, leather jacket donning man in this video.
She continues to have close ties to this church and is involved with workshops and seminars there.

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.
In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation.>>

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece
of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was
still in litigation 7 yrs later–to the delight of the lawyers
involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the
community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it
would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that
could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.
While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.

They also don't read newspapers or watch TV news, cable or broadcast.
Polling and the MSM are becoming increasingly irrelevant.

I think of it as one of the most horrifying and humiliating events in American history. The sentimentalism surrounding it is, as you point out, truly bizarre. I think of it as an exercise in defensive idealization because it's too difficult for many Americans to deal with the fact that such a powerful nation could not defend itself against an attack by 19 young men with a plan and a strong assist from the FAA.

Mostly still a big hole, although I think they've started working on some sort of memorial. There have been so many changes in plans, I gave up a while ago trying to keep track.

watch these and feel better. the gop convention took a lot of air out of the room.
Personally, I wish they'd leave the entire site alone,
personally, I wish they'd quit building giant steel penes anywhere. In the age of DWDM fiber optic telecommunications, there's no good reason why 5,000 people have to work in the same freaking building.
one of the biggest automated trading operations I'm aware of operates out of Charleston SC. They've got some sort of patented proprietary telecom for putting them with microseconds of the trading floor. There's no reason in the world why stockbrokers can't live and work in Wichita.
but those who will not learn from history are doomed to repeat it, I guess. If someone blows up our giant steel penis, I guess it is in our nature as giant steel penis owners to rebuild bigger than ever before and thereafter issue a challenge to the rest of the world to come try to blow up the new one.

Cynthia: “If I said that, read that part. You’re holding the column (in your hand). Read where I said Bristol Palin was running around unsupervised.”
O’Reilly guy: “You inferred (sic) it.”
Cynthia: “I inferred O’Reilly is a hypocrite. And I stand by that. Good day, gentlemen. I’m going inside to finish my Saturday chores.”

The thing that gets me, is that I still see no evidence that the Dems fully understand what they are up against. Obama may win, he may win big, but the repigs will continue to try to turn this country into a one party state.
You can’t indulge in bi partisan politics with people whose ultimate goal is your total destruction. Make no mistake, the repigs want to recruit every element of govt into the repig party. From the Supreme court down to dog catcher, From the media to the election process the repigs want them all just arms of the repig party.
You can’t play nice with people like this. Joe Lieberman is just an example of what has been wrong with the Dems for 20 years. Time and again they back down, on issue after issue, and regardless of whether Obama wins the Dems need a new younger tougher group of politicians, who will fight back.

I think that McCain doesn't wear a cowboy hat all the time, or make public appearances with the flag draped over his shoulders, because he's secretly in league with the French. He probably speaks French fluently and without an accent, too. Doesn't he want to get laid?
In this day and age when a man doesn't have legal power to make his wife do whatever he wants, and the wife can get a divorce and get away from the marriage with half of the property from the marriage, any guy who would treat his wife like that can't be motivated by anything less.

When Palin was elected mayor in 1996, she received 651 votes — the loser, a nine-year incumbent, received 413. It was the biggest municipal election turnout ever, according to the local paper.
....
John Stein, her opponent, said Palin had brought into the campaign his "alleged stance on gun control and abortion, even why his wife had a different last name than him," the paper reported.
All you have to do is watch Huggy checking out Palin's ass constantly to know that he's not gay, but he is a lecherous old man.

If it were discovered that Barack Obama's 17 year old daughter was in the family way, and the "finace" was some 18 year old homie hoop player, we'd never hear the end of it from the GOP scolds like that fat fuck Bennett or the fascist cow Bachman, or the deluded bint Nooners.
Absolutely. I believe that a family should a modicum of privacy, but when you hold yourselves out to the public a some kind of paragons of purity you set yourself up for this kind of scrutiny. Nobody really cared about Britney Spears saying she was going to remain a virgin until marriage until she started sharing hotel suites with her boyfriend.

Don't know about deathbed. The lady had just had cancer surgery.
The second wife he left when she got MS, IIRC.

Obama knows not the Tao of kingship. He reacts to every charge because he know no moderation. He knows not the wisdom of silence nor what the essence of unbeing is. His ego has his supergo ballgagged and hogtied somewhere in the vast chasm of his own glorious skull.

This is a point Bob Somerby makes regularly, and he's right: until people understand what happened in 2000, there's no reason to think it will stop happening.
Even if they do. Understanding does not = "change."

Crap. The extended lines on Ike are starting to get real unanimous-looking.
Another evacuation when half the people aren't home from the last one could get ugly real fast. Only hope is that those extended lines all go across Cuba the long way, so maybe it won't be end-of-the-world type strength.

not exactly on her deathbed, but still pretty damned sleazy:
Gingrich has been married three times. He married Jackie Battley, his former high school geometry teacher, when he was 19 years old (she was seven years his senior at 26 years old). They had two daughters. Jackie worked to put Newt through graduate school and was a loyal political wife during his two unsuccessful campaigns for Congress in 1974 and 1976. Gingrich had an affair in 1977 with Ann Manning, then the wife of a West Georgia professor. Gingrich walked out on Jackie in the spring of 1980. That fall, while she was in the hospital recovering from surgery for uterine cancer, he appeared at her bedside with a yellow legal pad outlining the details for their divorce, an action that would later be used against him: In 1992, his Democratic opponent, Tony Center, ran an ad claiming that Gingrich had "delivered divorce papers to [Ginther] the day after her cancer operation," which was not technically true.
The divorce was finalized in 1981. Gingrich refused to pay both alimony and child support.[citation needed] The local First Baptist church took up collections for support of Jackie and their children. In 1981, six months after his divorce was final, Gingrich wed Marianne Ginther. He remained married to Ginther until 2000, although he had an six year affair with a then 33-year-old Congressional staffer, Callista Bisek. This affair was going on during the Clinton impeachment probe. He and Bisek were married in August 2000. Gingrich had his marriage to Ginther annulled, and he renewed his vows with Bisek in a Catholic ceremony.

The subject is now closed, said McCain campaign spokesman Tucker Bounds.
"Gov. Palin was fully vetted as previously described and we are no longer commenting on the vetting process," Bounds said Friday. "She was selected, is qualified and is ready to serve."

And don't get me started on the Tennessee Vols :-(
Around here, being a Tennessee fan is not something you admit in polite company.
Fortunately, UT fans are never in polite company.
Val fans are generally OK except for the species of washout that end up at the teachers college here in the mosted hated corner in the state.
The real douchebags of the SEC are the Ole Miss fans who are convinced that they are heirs to the Southern aristocracy even though they go to a second rate state university . There's also the fact that they are as a group either in complete denial about or just flat out proud about the whole Johnny Reb image. You also usually don't have to scratch too deep with an Ole Miss alumni to get them talking about your "misconceptions" about what the civil war was really about.
