Intoxicated by reading Cult of COLB allegations, I'd like to take this opportunity to submit a different batshit theory of potentially enormous implications:
-- Andrew Jackson became President on March 4, 1829, forty-one years and five months after the ratification of the US Constitution.
-- Jackson was born March 15, 1767 somewhere in the Carolinas, which didn't become de facto states until 1776.
-- Therefore, Andrew Jackson was not legitimately President.

Elizabeth Cotten was good. It's interesting to see the Seeger, Johnny Cash, and NightMusic shows on utube - so much wider and wilder idea of music than we get now
A couple of crypto-Christo-fascists, posted on an already too crowded bulletin board in the lab, a pretty shaky pictorial thought. There is a protein that a partial picture of, shows a "cross".
I've got to look in some protein folding places this weekend to find pictures of Islamic moons, Rocky and Bullwinkle, and if I'm lucky a hammer and sickle.
I'll post those along side the cross.

OMG! Do I ever agree with you on this. Broadcast music is so compartmentalized that it has caused me to NEVER listen to the radio for music - I would rather push the shuffle button on my Ipod.
When I was young and in college: Music was better on the radio because it was all different.
A typical broadcast might include Led Zeppelin, Mississippi John Hurt, Simon and Garfunkel, and Pentangle.
Lots of fun to listen then.

Innate rights don't count when the law determines life, liberty, death, especially as defined by and as property. The law matters cuz it takes away rights.

And about knitting and crocheting: I think there is a big cognitive difference between knitting/crocheting and sewing. Certainly lots of people are good at both, but I also know folks who can do one, but suck at the other. I think it's a dimensional or spatial thing. Maybe I will feel differently if I go get another glass of wine.

I had just encoded and uploaded the clip of him getting hassled by Nashville's Finest, when James Duer of East Side Scooters called me. He said Chuck's people had called him, since they didn't have my contact info (they actually did; I signed a release w/all my contact info), and asked James to ask ME NOT to post the video, just yet.
So, I had to make it private, for now.
They want to hold off on this clip until the new video is about to be released. Good marketing, IMO. So, maybe the clip will go on The Smoking Gun a few days prior to the premiere of the music video for "I Wish It Was Friday"...

Talking about unequal: my local newspaper (a Northern California one) publishes marriage license applications a few times a week, and of course, they're always weeks behind. So for the last month or two - and still to this day - I keep seeing applications for "Donna M. and Veronica T.", and "Craig B. and Christopher C.", and on and on, all dated in October when everyone was still hopeful but a little uneasy.
It makes me cry. Last week I was at my local library, which is right across the street from a Roman Catholic church, and it used to be fun to go to the library on a Saturday and see wedding parties emerge across the street. I was surprised that all I felt was piercing sadness. I wasn't mad at the wedding party or anything, but I know I can't ever be happy about weddings until this thing is set right.

I'd use tasers on the pinkertons, while wearing a metal mesh suit myself.
Peggy Noonan believed magical dolphins saved Elian, she once drooled in print about the manly beauty of Ronald Reagan's loafer-covered foot, and there was something about putting on lipstick to meet the Pope that was too strange to believe, also.
Not making the foot fetish up, BTW.
...first saw him as a foot, a highly polished brown cordovan wagging merrily on a hassock. I spied it through the door. It was a beautiful foot, sleek. Such casual elegance and clean lines. But not a big foot, not formidable, maybe even a little ... frail. I imagined cradling it in my arms, protecting it from unsmooth roads ...
And they call Obama voters cultists..
But those pale in comnparison to that " Bush the Younger would breastfeed the military if he could."
Jesus H. Christ, that's so fucked up on so many levels. Good thing I'm listening to Jimi Hendrix now.
And the other thing that's the most alarming, beyond the fact that she still has a job after allt he above and more..there are many right-wingers who are way crazier than she is. She lost faith in Bush and she thought Palin was an idiot.

Link is broken. I know what the problem is: the drug that the doctor gave me either has some aspirin in it or is from the pharmacelogical family.
I am very allergic to aspirin, anti biotics (not all but a lot) Shell fish, cat dander, hay and grasses and so on.
I used to get this swelling all of the time but I learned to avoid the above. I can't control what the doctor prescribed. I wrote and told him I was allergic to aspirin.

This is the column that prompted Brian William
s to nominate Nooners for the Pulitzer: Main thought. Hillary Clinton is not Barack Obama's problem. America is Mr. Obama's problem. He has been tagged as a snooty lefty, as the glamorous, ambivalent candidate from Men's Vogue, the candidate who loves America because of the great progress it has made in terms of racial fairness. Fine, good. But has he ever gotten misty-eyed over . . . the Wright Brothers and what kind of country allowed them to go off on their own and change everything? How about D-Day, or George Washington, or Henry Ford, or the losers and brigands who flocked to Sutter's Mill, who pushed their way west because there was gold in them thar hills? There's gold in that history.
John McCain carries it in his bones. Mr. McCain learned it in school, in the Naval Academy, and, literally, at grandpa's knee. Mrs. Clinton learned at least its importance in her long slog through Arkansas, circa 1977-92.

Dubya's New Digs
First couple drops $2.07 million on 1.13 acre Dallas spread
DECEMBER 4--This is the Texas home that George W. Bush has purchased for his fast-approaching post-White House years. The home, on a Dallas cul-de-sac, sits on 1.13 acres and offers 8501 square feet of living space, according to city appraisal records. The property was purchased for $2.07 million in early-October by Robert McCleskey, the president's accountant, who is listed as trustee on deed records. Built in 1959, the home has been improved with a detached garage (1150 square feet), servants quarters (896 square feet), and a storage building (240 square feet). While the Bush property certainly appears comfortable, it is dwarfed by the 20-acre estate it abuts. That sprawling property (seen here) is owned by billionaire investor Tom Hicks, who, in 1998, purchased the Texas Rangers from a partnership in which Bush held a stake (the deal netted the future president about $15 million). Hicks, 62, was a leading supporter of Rudolph Giuliani's presidential bid and hosted a fundraiser last year at his home--reportedly the largest in Dallas--for the former New York City mayor.

Another recent study suggests a correlation between oral sex and throat cancer. It is believed that this is due to the transmission of human papillomavirus or (HPV) because this virus has been implicated in the majority of cervical cancers. The study concludes that people who had one to five oral sex partners in their lifetime had approximately a doubled risk of throat cancer compared with those who never engaged in this activity and those with more than five oral-sex partners had a 250% increased risk.

Even more of a mind-blowing concept. Looking for a photo from that time..can't find it right now.
I never saw Hendrix but I saw Janis Joplin when I was about 14.. at the Fairgrounds, in the old "Women's Building". There was straw all over the ground, and big circle of flags overhead.
Was just scanning early editions of tomorrows papers and william jefferson D-LA was defeated by a Repug who happens to be Vietnamese. Apparently, today was election day in LA because of Hurricane Gustave.

an old boss of mine (old as in old job, she was only 40) once got the head of the blah blah blah superspecific medical research department of the prestigious university hospital to be her "primary care physician" b/c she had some one in a million eye disease. she joked about it. "i bet it's been decades since this guy has been in the same room with a living, breathing patient." seems he hadn't lost his touch, for all that he made 10x more than she did, and 100x more than i did, both of us being lowly admin types and not superstar research, elite cocktail party circuit, drug company board members.

This is not the first time I've found it difficult to reconcile myself to the conflicting demands of modern masculinity.
I still think the Rosary thing is crazier, though. Rescuing an adorable little moppet with an army of dolphins at least fits in with the Almighty's job description. Shattering Noonan's glass coffee cup in her hands, not so much. At least, not for the reason she gave...if she'd concluded that He was smiting her for her preening vanity, it might've made sense....

recently i watched the HBO production of "Angels in America" and i found myself very much in agreement with the protagonist during the final sequence during his debate for more life with the Angels. "if god shows up, you should sue him." for negligence, at the very least. i'm an atheist, but if i'm wrong and i do get to meet some gawd after death, that will be my line. "where the fuck have you been, you slacker? send me to hell for saying so, but you suck, in your appointed role. no child's death is a worthy price to pay for your arrogance/laziness. not one. and yet, you've allowed billions."

You sure you didn't stumble into some sort of debate formate? Where there's an aye and a nay side of an argument and some poor schmuck has to do his/her damndest to defend some indefensible position?
Son wound up having to give a "Guantanamo interrogations are a Good Thing" presentation at a History Club gig at his school, on the grounds that he had organized said gig and somehow couldn't get any military folkx to come over from Ft. Campbell and lay out a defense of the notion...
He (son) was quite mortified over the event. I told him it built character.

Variations on a theme. Hasn't she said things along those lines several times before?
The one that really, really pissed me off was her column on the death penalty.
It is as if we've become sophisticated beyond our intelligence, savvy beyond wisdom. Some might say we are showing a great and careful generosity, as befits a great nation.
