I'MMA LET YOU FINISH

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!

She has a way to go to catch up.

Obama '08!!

GravatarWell, that was fast..

Gravatar

GravatarShe CANNOT catch Obama. Just won't happen..

GravatarFunny how people throw away their hard-earned money.

GravatarGood. Now she can pay off what she owes...

Gravatarmake it 3 millions for Obama

GravatarThis makes no sense to me. But I'm just a working girl, living in a material world...And she's still in debt.

GravatarPlummy, how are you tonight?

GravatarShe's just a spoiler at this point.

GravatarTHIS IS EXCELLENT NEWS...

FOR JOHN McCAIN!

GravatarThese two are raising obscene amounts of cash. Where can I get a piece of that action?

GravatarSo with a beginning 10 million dollar debt, that leaves her 7.5 million dollars in the red.

Gravatar$2.25M of it loaned from Bubba.

GravatarRachel Maddow just gave Pat Buchanan a slight ass-kicking.

GravatarDid her campaign raise that, or Obama's?

GravatarWatching her speech tonight, I realized I was all clenched up - I usually reserve that for Chimpy's speeches.

I really can't stand to watch r listen to her anymore.

GravatarIs Obama another Michael Dukakis

No. BHO: Better head, better hat.

GravatarOh, cool, new thread. Question: there's one big bump in McCain's way that all the crowing GOP idiots are avoiding...Can McCain afford not to put Huckabee on his ticket? Does anyone think that the fundies consider the second spot anything other than their absolute non-negotiable due?

And don't we have some very entertaining GOP discomfort to look ahead to?

GravatarSpeeder T. Hound for president.

"he'll steal your lunch"

GravatarWell good for her. We look forward to welcoming her here in Oregon. She can go on the Norml People Tour which has a pre-function in Sweet Home where we will do boilermakers and perhaps never make it to Norml People Nirvana, Eugene. I really, really, welcome the 5mill per year bobblehead corp to the tour. Damn, we're gonna partay.

GravatarPlummy, how are you tonight?

GravatarDamn, we're gonna partay.

GravatarI'm losing IQ points listening to these commentators. They are going to go night night now.

GravatarIs Obama another Michael Dukakis

Is that the stupidest question ever?

Okay, I'll answer that. Yes.

For starters, when the Dems nominated Dukakis, they nominated the only colorless Greek in the world.

Gravatarwell Obama will be getting more from me in the morning.

Gravatarmaybe she will net 1 or 2 delegates in indiana with that money

GravatarThus she should drop out.

Gravatarya know both of these folks are power hungry politicians but they are each far superior to any repelican. and i can picture hillary kicking mcsame's ass just as easily as i can picture obama doing it. so i really don't get the whole cult of personality thing the left ( of which i thought i was a member since my first peace march in 1962 ) has about obama. just get one of these turkeys over the finish line!!

Gravatarif you're willing to play ball....

I don't know what that means.

GravataraRRRGH. She doesn't listen.

Dear Vici,

Thanks to you, we won a critically important victory tonight in Pennsylvania. It's a giant step forward that will transform the landscape of the presidential race. And it couldn't have happened without you.

There will be much more to do beginning tomorrow. But tonight, let's just celebrate the fact that you and I are part of a remarkable community of people tough enough, passionate enough, and determined enough to win big when everything is on the line.

Thanks so much for all you do.

Sincerely,

Hillary Rodham Clinton

GravatarOn July 22, 1948 Gus Hall and 11 other Communist Party leaders were indicted under the Smith Act on charges of "conspiracy to teach and advocate the overthrow of the U.S. government by force and violence." Hall spent eight years in Leavenworth Federal Penitentiary.

The U.S. Supreme Court later struck down the Smith Act as unconstitutional.

GravatarEarth Day Paxcast posted.

GravatarGotta go. Goodnight.

Gravatarain't it *amazing* how much lint Hillary can pull out of her pockets when she really needs it?

GravatarAnd so thus it moves on...

We'll be around.

To discuss other forms of communication, that don't carry the heavy backhand of Secretary Rice's moments.

The military is paying attention and so am I.

Tell that to your chief, should you approach me again...

Secularily speaking, of course.

(You may finish what you need to say to God at this point, I am a son of my father.)

GravatarWhat? did she write herself a check?

Yes, she's going to use it to pay her debts.

Gravatar"Clinton campaign sez $2.5 million raised since the nets called the PA race."

So that means obama will have to raise 3 times as much, about 7.5 million, just to lose by 10 points in the next primary. I think he can do it.

Another $100 to obama...

GravatarCan McCain afford not to put Huckabee on his ticket? Does anyone think that the fundies consider the second spot anything other than their absolute non-negotiable due?

Huckabee actually got 12% in PA tonight (Paul got 16%).

Ahh, something to make the millennialists happy, a nutjob for the end times.

Gravatarhey!

ABC’s ratings drop after much-criticized debate.

Last week, after ABC News’s much-criticized Democratic debate, Washington Post TV critic Tom Shales declared that “the clear loser is ABC.” The ratings for last week’s evening newscasts are now in, and it appears that Shales was correct: “NBC beat ABC by over 600,000 viewers last week — an unusually wide margin for the dueling newscasts.” Huffington Post’s Rachel Sklar notes that “one reason for that wider-than-usual gap” is that “on Friday, NBC beat ABC by 1.1 million viewers — a practically unheard of margin for an otherwise random Friday night.”

If it's as airtight as you think it is, that ruins my scenario, but I think McCain, AND most of the bigwigs, are way scared of putting Huckabee on.

And their agonized ruminations about it are gonna set off some fireworks in the days leading up to their convention, started by the prideful fundamentalists wackjobs.

GravatarHuckabee has been all over the tv shows lately.

GravatarAssuming the polling is correct that Obama's base is primarily African American and "youth", and HRC's is primarily white male, older women, which base is more likely to vote for McCane?

Yeah, according to Wikipedia there are about 800 unpledged delegates, so the House would be a significant chunk of that. Not a majority, but the biggest bloc?

GravatarSuper delegates are House members and Senators, and governors and party big wigs and poobahs.

Gravataractually, the Friedman Unit has been in Wiki for a while now. And yes, credited to our Atrios

You arranged that with Rachel, just to ensure that no-one will ever delete the F.U. from Wikipedia, didn't you?

GravatarG'night, all.

I'll be 59 years old in about 7-1/2 hours, and I need to get ready!

This ongoing primary battle is tedious and tiring, but we're learning a lot about what to do, what not to do, and how to wrest power back from the ReThugs on local, state, and national levels.

So, this whole mess may be worth it, in the long run.

I am tired of the pundits and the campaign advisors, though. More than annoying and unhelpful.

More about what we've learned tomorrow -- no doubt at the end of a dead thread, as usual.

Love you all. Except the trolls.

At least 56 Iraqis were killed and 183 more were wounded in attacks across Iraq. Many of the wounded died either in Sadr City or during one of several significant bombings. Also, five U.S. servicemembers were killed in separate incidents, and two top aides to Grand Ayatollah al-Sistani died as well.

GravatarThe Grey Lady unendorses Clinton?

The Pennsylvania campaign, which produced yet another inconclusive result on Tuesday, was even meaner, more vacuous, more desperate, and more filled with pandering than the mean, vacuous, desperate, pander-filled contests that preceded it.

Voters are getting tired of it; it is demeaning the political process; and it does not work. It is past time for Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton to acknowledge that the negativity, for which she is mostly responsible, does nothing but harm to her, her opponent, her party and the 2008 election.

If nothing else, self interest should push her in that direction. Mrs. Clinton did not get the big win in Pennsylvania that she needed to challenge the calculus of the Democratic race....

It is getting to be time for the superdelegates to do what the Democrats had in mind with they created superdelegates: settle a bloody race that cannot be won at the ballot box. Mrs. Clinton once had a big lead among the party elders, but has been steadily losing it, in large part because of her negative campaign. If she is ever to have a hope of persuading these most loyal of Democrats to come back to her side, let alone win over the larger body of voters, she has to call off the dogs.

GravatarNow, lots of fun.
Simels is right.
The convention is going to get violent and ugly.
We've been WARNED about how aggressive the Obama Delegates are.
They have evil partners:
MoveOn, Code Pink and the Democratic Base.
Be Warned.
They might tickle the Clinton delegates to death.

Gravatar96% in, 55-45.

We'll see about the delegate count when all the rats are killed - Clinton has some underestimated strength I think with the 200,000+ margin.

GravatarAny bets on hrc getting to like that unitary executive theory, if by some chance she's the executive?

Oh, I'd bet any person with that power will go apeshit.

I have never seen a Clinton Electoral map where she can win without Florida. I think McCain takes Florida. Obama, according to that map, needs to flip New Hampshire, New Mexico, or Ohio.

John McCain gave a speech praising NAFTA in closed factory today. I think in Ohio.

GravatarEven a Clinton preznitcy, with a sufficiently progressive Congress, gets me partway there.

It depends on which kind of a progressive you're talking about, I guess. There are the technocrats who believe in regulated government run by elites and there are egalitarians that believe in helping citizens acquire the tools for a genuinely participatory democracy.

I'm in the second group and don't think Clinton has interest in promoting egalitarian representation on the Hill.

The bloody point, is that the TDP needs a house cleaning from the top.

Texas has received all the money it is going to from the DNC until it decides to act like a real political party, and not like spoiled children.

If you are really this angry about it, you are the perfect type of person to, basically, stage a coup.

The moneyed interests in the State are keeping this lackadaisical leadership in the TDP. A serious challenge needs to come from below, and it needs enough passion and anger to throw the bums out.

Blaming the DNC for our ills here, is only addressing the symptom. Not the disease.

We've heard everything from so and so getting laid to someone else's cancer surgery....for example. The irony is that I've never talked about my personal sex life...I've just talked about sex, in general.

I have never asked anyone to comment on my personal/sex life here, and there seems to be a group think on occasion that pushes the issue. (Some troll will find something in the archives, no doubt...)

God, sometimes I hear the same things from different angles several times.

Just sayin', and not that that matters.

One of my favorites. Her recording of "Get Out and Get Under the Moon" is one of the best recordings ever, for my money.

GravatarWhat awful things to say! But at least John "100 years war" McCain and Hillary "Bush has made his case on Iraq" Clinton, unlike Barrack Hussien Farrakhan Hamas Weather Underground Obama, are qualified to be Commander in Chief

The former North Carolina senator criticized Obama specifically for referring to Ronald Reagan as an agent of change in a newspaper interview. “I would never use Ronald Reagan as an example of change,” Edwards said. “You think about what Ronald Reagan did, to America, the American people, to the middle class, to working people. He was openly, openly intolerant of unions and the right to organize."
In an interview with the Reno Gazette-Journal, Obama said that Reagan “changed the trajectory of America,” and said Americans “want clarity, we want optimism, we want a return to that sense of dynamism and entrepreneurship.” “I could promise you this,” Edwards said. “This president will never use Ronald Reagan as an example.”

GravatarTacitus Voltaire, you said:

i don't really agree with that.

That's fine, I'm really not in a mood to fight or disrespect a differing opinion. But I am very upset at the way Hillary has run her campaign. These things matter to me. It's late so I'm almost done here. But I'll sketch it out a little bit.

It's just horrifying to see a Democrat using the such bad RW methods on another Democrat. And I'm not saying Obama is perfect but I haven't seen him using such relentless and careless guilt by association, or the kind of tsk-tsking snark you hear on a RW radio about "unAmerican" associations or for God's sake - using the very same RW rags which tried to usurp his husband's election, but this time - she's using them against Obama. (I'm refering to her talking to the Scaife paper about Wright and the use of the American Spectator smear about McPeak, there.)

The debate was almost unbearable last week. I came to really admire Hillary and I damn near voted for her.
I've lost a great deal of respect for her. And again, I think her methods will have a long term negative effect on the party's chances. Add to everything, she's a long shot. We're talking about smearing the front runner.

Trust me on one thing - the things people are throwing off here are nothing to worry about right now. People want this damn thing to be done, already. They're frustrated, for a variety of reasons. Hillary's the one doing the potential damage and I don't know if it can be undone enough.

we are in much better shape than we ever were with dukakis or kerry. the theory that we are going to lose because of hillary's campaign tactics is not, as far as i can make out, based on any evidence. did you see the electoral maps i posted above?

.

GravatarWe know the strengths and weaknesses of these candidates. We know what demographics they win against one another and what demos they lose. About half the Democrats in the country like Clinton and about half like Obama. She's from the Northeast and he's from the Midwest, and they get a tilt in their favor in each of those regions. He can't knock her out because she's really good at campaigning, and she was swamped by him early because he's really good at campaigning. The level of competition is far higher here than it will be in the fall against John McCain, actually. So the superdelegates can make their choice. They could make it today.

And I agree with Stoller, we're going to be fine. Democrats forced a runoff, and came within a hair's breadth of winning, in a seat in the middle of Mississippi (MS-01) tonight, an R+10 seat. The "Clinton/Obama voters will vote for McCain if their guy doesn't win" polling is about as relevant in the middle of a hotly contested primary

Obama lost the plot in the last several weeks, and Clinton capitalized with a faintly divisive, but strong campaign. Obama needs to get back on his feet in two favorable states. He has not lost a single state that shares a border with his home state of Illinois (Iowa, Wisconsin, Missouri). His speech tonight was pretty much a replay of his 2004 DNC keynote, and he's trying to return to the themes on which he won early. If he wins those two states it will be very significant. But the superdelegates need to come out from under the rocks where they're hiding and end this.

GravatarHi folks. I think we should change the topic to more fun stuff. Like Torture.

I've been thinking about doing a project regarding torture, and it might get "media" coverage but the media coverage isn't the goal.

I want people who support torture to lose donor dollars from their religious donors.

And then when the people fall all over them selves to condemn torture I want them on record saying that they want people involved in torture to be sent to jail. So that as more stuff gets revealed we will have them on record saying "People who plan for, approve and carry out torture should be punished."

(Kind of like the way that Bush said if anyone leaked they would be punished... Hmmm that didn't help out much maybe I should reconsider) but the of course I always like to have multi-message campaigns because you don't know which part people will be interested in.

The Swamp
by Matthew Hay Brown
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, under fire from House Republicans for failing to contain rising gas prices, is appealing to President Bush for help.
In a letter today, the California Democrat asks Bush to direct the Justice Department to investigate oil cartel price-fixing, authorize the Federal Trade Commission to pursue and punish "price gougers," end tax breaks for oil companies and invest the savings in renewable energy.

"Lastly, your administration must use the authority given to it by the Congress to end market manipulation," Pelosi writes. "We cannot wait to act in the face of these price increases."

The letters appears to be a response, of sorts, to a campaign by the House Republican Conference accusing Democrats of breaking a promise to contain gas prices. Yesterday, they were calling the increase at the pump since Democrats took control of Congress last year the "Pelosi Premium."...

Bush cut taxes during wartime, putting our troops at risk. Bush has done nothing while his patrons in Big Oil have reaped record wartime profits on the backs of the American taxpayer. Bush has cut funding for medical care for wounded veterans to free up money to pay exhorbitant salaries to "contractors" whose companies funnel huge bribes to GOP campaign coffers. But, as Nancy Pelosi would be the first to tell you, criticism of Dear Leader is "off the table."

I actually am pretty sure that I CAN get them to denounce torture. And I think I can get them on record saying it.
That actually is not the hard part.

It really is what to do when you have it.

I've found that unless there is some sort of consequences people don't pay attention. So that is why I want to tie it to funding or to future news.

I also want to focus on the people who the news makers care about. The don't really care what the Pope says, he had a week here and no body asked him about torture, it was Priest sex all the time. I want to go to the people who are the "moral" leaders of the Bush administration to hear what they think.

GravatarTrolls know that on election night they won't be here doing double back flips so they are getting their silly digs in while they still can. This will go on until a nominee is chosen. Then they will become less and less visible until they lose and we won't see them until after the inauguration of the Democratic president in 2009.

GravatarThe group "Hate Hurts America" is using my techniques and methods and have been sued by Savage in San Francisco.

Someone should really write a book outlining those techniques and perhaps give details about their practical application in real-world settings.

Who, I wonder, could write such a worthwhile tome???

Actually, he strategically did a great job at forcing Hillary to spend money to stop bleeding support.

Gravatar...what bullet did you dodge?

A big fat financial bullet! It looked pretty grim for Yours Truly... and it's not a good night to be living on the street.

I have to mention this to Walter Neff, who often refers to himself as "the Bank of Dad." I was pulled out of the bullet's path thanks to the Bank of Dad - from beyond the grave!

GravatarIn 1934, Gus Hall went to Ohio's Mahoning Valley. Following the call for organizing in the steel industry, Hall was among a handful hired at a steel mill in Youngstown, Ohio. He was a founding organizer of the Steel Workers Organizing Committee (SWOC) and a leader of the 1937 “Little Steel” strike, so called because it was directed against Republic Steel, Bethlehem Steel and the Youngstown Sheet and Tube Company, as opposed to the industry giant U.S. Steel, which had previously entered into a contract with SWOC without a strike.

GravatarWell, I admit, I'm feeling a little Rosie...

Is that you Chris Matthews?

GravatarWake up: Obama has serious negatives that are of his own making; Hillary didn't invent them. How could he spend 20+ years in a church with a racist pastor and then say he didn't know what was being preached from the pulpit? Could any other politician get away with this? How about lying about signing the gun control survey that said he wanted to ban the manufacture and sale of all handguns?

How about saying he opposed Nafta while his representative was Canada saying Obama supports Nafta?

How about saying religion and guns are crutches for bitter people? Is Hillary responsible for these disasters?

Gravatarthis may seem picky, but nytimes, wapo, cnn, and msnbc all bestow a "10 point win" to hrc over obama in pa. but the actual vote totals shown on their sites round to a 9 percent win. and the numbers on the official pa results site come out below 9 percent (though round to 9). 10/double digit win is a much better story for hrc. why let the facts get in the way of it?

GravatarGus Hall was arrested for allegedly transporting bomb-making materials intended for Republic's plant in Warren, Ohio. Philip Murray, USWA founding president, once commented that Hall's leadership of the strike in Warren and Youngstown was a model of effective grassroots organizing.

GravatarThe fact is that Obama will never be elected president. I suspect we've just seen the tip of the iceberg of his negatives. I think there is a 50% chance that some new information will surface that is so damning that he won't get the nomination.

(popular vote in the primaries...)
Without Florida, Michigan, and the four states with estimated totals, Obama leads Clinton by 717,086 votes, or 2.6% of all votes cast

http://blogs.forbes.com/trailwat...on-obama- a.html

with approx. 99% of votes counted in PA, hillary gets 216,067 more than barack. 717,086 - 216,067 => barack is now leading by 501,029 popular votes, and there are, IIRC, 11 more states plus puerto rico that havn't voted yet.

GravatarHere are the delegate totals as of 6 A.M. EST. They may change during the day as more results come in. Some of the news organizations have not updated their totals yet. As expected though, Obama's lead in delegates has hardly been dented. The AP has Obama 130 delegates ahead now. On May 6, North Carolina will choose most of its 134 delegates and Indiana will choose most of its 85 delegates. It is a given at this point, that Obama will win a sweeping victory in North Carolina and since it is larger than Indiana, even a landslide for Clinton will result in Obama having probably something like a 130-150 delegate lead on May 7. After that there just aren't enough states left for Clinton to catch up in the pledged delegates. It's going to be up to the superdelegates.

How Did Hillary Steal New Hampshire?
John Christian Ryder
January 25, 2008

Ask Congressman Dennis Kucinich [D-OH] who is paying for a "recount" of the electronic balloting in New Hampshire and he will likely tell you that the old Clinton shenanigans were taking place in the nation’s first primary. Staffers for Congressman Ron Paul [R-TX] will say the same thing, but laying the blame on Sen. John McCain rather than Hillary Clinton. But, in both instances, the name "Diebold" will pop up in the dialogue. According to the totals, Hillary Clinton won over Barack Obama 39.4% to 36.8%. When you examine the Diebold AccVote Optical-Scan voting machine count for each candidate, you discover that Hillary took 52.95% of the votes compared to 47.05% for Obama. However, when you examine the paper ballots, Obama took 52.93% of the votes compared to 47.07% for Hillary. By no stretch of the imagination can you make the argument that in all of the voting precincts where machines were used, Hillary actually won, and that Obama only won in the districts using paper ballots. It is more logical to assume that someone switched the names in the voting machine’s memory bank, and credited the Obama hits to Hillary and visa versa. Two things lend credence to that train of thought.
First, election officials in New Hampshire have confirmed that employees from LHS Associates—the programmers for Diebold’s AccVote Optical-Scan voting machines—were allowed to access vulnerable optical scan data systems throughout election day. Talk about a front row seat to who’s voting for whom. Second, every major pollster—and we are talking about the biggest and most important names in the public opinion field—ended up with egg on their faces in New Hampshire because every one of them—including those doing the exit polling—predicted that Clinton would lose to Obama. (It turns out that Hillary’s "human moment" in New Hampshire wasn’t due to "woman talk," but defeatism. When Hillary was caught by a photographer with a tearful gaze, staring off into space, its because she had just learned that every pollster in the country was awarding the night to Obama. I suspect Hillary was not at all sure the voting machines would be able to save the day.) In the days leading up to the primary, Obama led 41% to 28% in a USA Today-Gallop poll. Just before the primary a CNN poll gave Obama a 39% to 30% edge over the New York Senator. Fox News put the race at 32% to 28% for Obama. Every indicator—including the people who cast the votes—gave the win to Obama.
The pollsters were so shocked by missing the mark so bad it apparently did not dawn on any of them that someone might have been playing loosey-goosey with the voting machines. The explanation offered by the pollsters was that the voters were leaning this-a-way and that-a-way and just weren’t really locked in on Obama (even though they said they were) until they got into the voting booth.
http://www.truthnews.u

GravatarSome of them, I guess, weren’t even sure—even after they had cast their ballots—how they voted when they engaged in exit interviews. Or, maybe 20% or so of the voters lied to those doing the exit polls because they didn’t want to admit they would be stupid enough to vote for Hillary Clinton.

Here’s the hard and fast nitty-gritty. Take it to the bank. First, only 35% of those who call themselves Democrats will vote for Hillary. Fifty-two percent of all the total voter pool in the United States would rather poke out their eyes with a dirty stick than vote for her. That leaves 17% of the voters—mostly Reagan Democrats—that Hillary must convince (or at least 8% of them) that she really is a closet conservative. And then she has to hope that someone like Congressman Ron Paul or former Reform Party candidate Pat Buchanan can be convinced to jump in as a third party candidate and drain off 10% to 12% of the vote—or that conservatives will be so disillusioned with the GOP choices that, once more, they will sit out the election and allow her to win the White House with a 42% mandate to govern as those voters did during the 2006 midterm election .

A preliminary investigation by election officials in New Hampshire revealed conflicting information concerning what was actually going on in the voting precincts that were using the AccVote Optical-Scan voting machines. There was a great deal of confusion from clerks in the precincts and officials in the Attorney General’s office regarding protocols and security procedures. The people on the ground couldn’t understand why the AccVote Optical-"Scan people needed to check the voting machines and the people in Concord had no established protocol to regulate what was happening on the ground. It does appear that the voting machines broke down quite often, or didn’t perform in a manner that made it easy for the voter to complete the task of casting his or her vote."

GravatarKucinich asks for New Hampshire recount in the interest of election integrity

DETROIT, MI – Democratic Presidential candidate Dennis Kucinich, the most outspoken advocate in the Presidential field and in Congress for election integrity, paper-ballot elections, and campaign finance reform, has sent a letter to the New Hampshire Secretary of State asking for a recount of Tuesday’s election because of “unexplained disparities between hand-counted ballots and machine-counted ballots.”
...
He added, “Ever since the 2000 election – and even before – the American people have been losing faith in the belief that their votes were actually counted. This recount isn’t about who won 39% of 36% or even 1%. It’s about establishing whether 100% of the voters had 100% of their votes counted exactly the way they cast them.”

Kucinich, who drew about 1.4% of the New Hampshire Democratic primary vote, wrote, “This is not about my candidacy or any other individual candidacy. It is about the integrity of the election process.” No other Democratic candidate, he noted, has stepped forward to question or pursue the claims being made.

“New Hampshire is in the unique position to address – and, if so determined, rectify – these issues before they escalate into a massive, nationwide suspicion of the process by which Americans elect their President. Based on the controversies surrounding the Presidential elections in 2004 and 2000, New Hampshire is in a prime position to investigate possible irregularities and to issue findings for the benefit of the entire nation,” Kucinich wrote in his letter.

“Without an official recount, the voters of New Hampshire and the rest of the nation will never know whether there are flaws in our electoral system that need to be identified and addressed at this relatively early point in the Presidential nominating process,” said Kucinich

http://www.bradblog.com/?p=5544

GravatarBLOGGED BY Brad Friedman ON 1/10/2008 2:47AM
Chris Matthews: Raw EXIT POLL Data 'Indicated Significant Victory' for Obama in NH
'Even Our Own Exit Polls, Taken as People Came Out of Voting, Showed Him Ahead'...
Even the Exit Polls showed that Obama should have won, according to Chris Matthews on Hardball today. It's the first specific indication that we've seen that the raw, unadjusted Exit Poll data, which only corporate mainstream media folks, not mere mortals, are allowed to see, confirmed pre-election polling which predicted an Obama win.

MATTHEWS: So what accounts for Hillary Clinton's victory in New Hampshire? What we don't know is why the victory is so much different in fact, then the polling ahead of time, including what we call the Exit Polls were telling us. Obama was ahead in those polls by an average of 8 points, and even our own Exit Polls, taken as people came out of voting, showed him ahead. So what's going on here?
Good question. And one that we asked, verbatim, all night long last night.

"Why were the polls taken, of people coming out of the booth, so off?," Matthews tries to ask his guests again and again. And again.

All of them twisted and turned and contorted and grappled and speculated, coming up with every possible unverifiable, backwards-engineered explanation, save for the one that must not be named. The 600 lb. canary in the virtual living room...the fact that no human being has bothered to check what was actually on NH's vast majority of ballots (80%) which were "counted" by error-prone, hackable Diebold optical-scan machines, all controlled by one bad, horribly irresponsible private company, who has no business being anywhere near a public election...

We've yet to see that raw Exit data ourselves, as mentioned. But we're working on it. Even while we're still working on getting the never-released raw data from 2004, when the Exit Polls were done then, as now, by Mitofsky/Edison.

(BTW: They disavow their own Exit Polling from 2004. So, naturally, the MSM news consortium hired the same folks to do the job again in 2008. Perhaps it was the company's apparently spot-on Exit Polling in Ukraine, in December of 2004, cited as evidence of fraud by George W. Bush and Colin Powell, that the challenger should have won, rather than the incumbant, as the election results announced, in contradiction of the Exit Polls...but don't get us started.)

And yet, as all the talking heads continue to use data from those post-election-adjusted Exit Polls, as speculative reasons why Clinton was announced the winner ("higher than expected female turnout" "voters who make less than $50k"), Politico's Roger Simon, at the end of the Hardball segment, asks the question about NH '08, that we've been asking about 2004 for years: "If the exit polls got the results wrong, why do we think they got the demographics right?"

GravatarObama leads in the popular vote count, in the delegate count, and in states won. Hillary cannot catch him. It would defy statistical plausibility. It will be interesting to see the Clinton campaign try to convince the super - delegates to support her. They won't if she remains behind in delegates and popular votes.

GravatarFrom dday at Hullabaloo: "Democrats forced a runoff, and came within a hair's breadth of winning, in a seat in the middle of Mississippi (MS-01) tonight, an R+10 seat"

Anyone still calling himself a Republican needs to move to high ground before the November tsunami.

Taking the high ground, though, ain't their forte....

GravatarAgreed, Duane; mathematically it is not possible, just the kind of odds miracles wish for. I so wanted it to be over, and the Rove playbook retired -- but that hasn't happened.

GravatarNorth Carolina has been the home of some of the most despicable political TV spots ever televised, many of them ads for former Senator Jesse Helms.
Expect things to get nastier.

Gravatarplantsman

I'm not looking forward to that anti Obama add the Repugs are premiering..

GravatarBut will Republicans help Clinton by running their ad ahead of the Democratic primary?

GravatarDoes this headline bode ill for the Mariners? "Putz activated from DL, Bedard scheduled to get Saturday start"

I hear they may call up schmuck from Tacoma.
MikeJ |

I hear the yankees might bring Shmendrick and Meshugeneh up from triple A..

GravatarThe DNC's anti-McCain ad is not devastating, but it's solid work; highlighting how much at odds with reality McCain's ideas are.

GravatarBut will Republicans help Clinton by running their ad ahead of the Democratic primary?
plantsman

Why not? They know she won't win..They may as well help to fuel her campaign, and give her ammunition to wear Obama down with before the general..

Gravatarhighlighting how much at odds with reality McCain's ideas are

Not a hard thing to do..

I think I'd better try to sleep for an hour or so..See you later, plantsman..

GravatarI may have to try to sleep myself. Not sure I can face the morrow.

GravatarWhy not? They know she won't win..They may as well help to fuel her campaign

Somebody will run anti-Obama ads, but the RNC doesn't have the cash. Nor does McCain. Or Clinton.

Maybe Richard Mellon Scaife.

Gravataronce again white trash dems defeat brie and chesse dems and the warmongering ny times cant stand it.
what a mixed up world.

GravatarSpring is finally here.

http://thumbsnap.com/v/nVEdMqKA.jpg

Gravatarpoor little markos, with all the money and charm precious couldnt pull it off. we poor white trash love it.

GravatarVery nice, Ralphie.

GravatarHillary still hasn't won the nomination, nor is it likely she will. Don't get too puffed-up by your "achievement."

GravatarMorning peeps.

People around here put in their annuals weeks ago. I was kind of surprised but figured they knew what they were doing.

GravatarHilldick is aptly named.

GravatarAll PA proved was that the party is almost evenly divided.

Gravatarhttp://www.rgemonitor.com/setser...urrency-losses/

Brad Setser notes the Chinese are starting to make noises about the decline in the value of the US dollar and the value of their huge foreign reserves.

GravatarVoters are fed up with attacks by slimy innuendo, which fooled them last election and gave them another four years of a guy they hate worse than Nixon.

If that's all they have on Obama, it's going to backfire.

GravatarOur "last average frost date" was around the end of March. Last weekend snow was predicted. It's not always easy to know when to plant.

GravatarWhat ql said. It's very true. Nobody mentions that RuPaul and Huckleberry won quite a few votes against a guy who already won the nomination. No division there.

GravatarOn a brighter note, the fuchsias I figured I'd lose to cold are pushing new growth from the base, so that's one less pot to have to fill.

GravatarSoon we will have plenty of these around. My favorite type of flower. Nobody plants them, nobody has to take care of them.

http://thumbsnap.com/v/huboOrhm.jpg

GravatarSo if they DNA-test all the FLDS kids, it seems they'd have to DNA test all the adults to match and determine parentage. What a drawn-out, messy situation that will be.

GravatarTrillium. They thrive here too, and multiply.

GravatarRalphie, along with the trilliums come also the Columbia lilies (L. columbiana) and the day-lilies (Maianthemum dilatatum) and the rhododendrons (R. occidentale), at least all along highway 101 in OR and CA.

Spectacular show, and all natural...

GravatarTrillium are illegal to pick here. Every year some clowns get caught trying to dig them up and transplant to their own little nature preserves. Never works. Their ecology is hard to reproduce.

GravatarIn CA the California poppies (Eschscholtzia) should be up all over the place too by now.

GravatarAll PA proved was that the party is almost evenly divided

I'm beginning to think everything is evenly divided. Whether a nomination or the general, it seems "a landslide" is no longer possible.

GravatarYeah it should be illegal. They grow from a bulb, and it takes several years for the bulb to grow to the stage where the plan is ready to flower. Taking the bulb means you're taking at least 5 years of growth. That's true of most wild lilies.

GravatarTrillium are very sensitive to being moved when they're actively growing, although transplanting from container-grown ones can be accomplished.
There's a place (or was) down near Pleasant Hill, OR; Trillium Gardens that offers many varieties for sale.

Gravatarel, probably pie in the sky, but if they combined I think it would be a landslide in the g.e.

GravatarThe press will help McCain in every way they can. As I see it, that is all that will prevent a landslide.

GravatarThe press will help McCain in every way they can. As I see it, that is all that will prevent a landslide.

Yeah it must be nice to have the American press as your own personal media. When is the last time a democrat could say that, JFK?

GravatarThe press in Arizona (controlled by Dan Quayle's grandfather Eugene Pulliam ) were not at all fond of Kennedy, iirc.

GravatarIt looks like Hill's toughness paid off, but if she stopped short of smears, she could probably get even greater benefit, stop losing people like Robert Raish who are disgusted and horrified by her tactics.

The Willie Horton ad (Osama) was truly revolting and unnecessary.

Just watch, the thugs won't need to Swiftboat anything, they can just pick up Hill's attack line.

GravatarI was pretty young but I don't remember JFK having the kind of adolators in the press as McCain. Lot's of people and editorial boards hated him, after all, he was assassinated. I do remember that.

Gravatarql, if anyone is going to be combined, it will probably be Edwards, doncha think he would be easier to graft onto a ticket than either of them?

He's certainly kept his powder dry, not throwing support either way.

GravatarMSNBC mentioned that Elizabeth Edwards may stump for Clinton in NC, but claimed John would stay neutral -- though I have no idea how they'd know.

GravatarI think Obama may pick Edwards. Too liberal for Hillary.

GravatarI'm not at all sure Edwards would accept a VP slot from either candidate; Evan Bayh seems attached at the hip to Clinton, and she might need him to make the difference in IN -- I can't parse who's on Obama's "short list" of VP possibles.

Gravatarif she stopped short of smears, she could probably get even greater benefit, stop losing people like Robert Raish

Did you mean Reich? Ain't no way he was ever gonna endorse Clinton, at least in a primary. The bad blood goes back to the 90's.

GravatarI can't parse who's on Obama's "short list" of VP possibles.

I've heard Janet Napolitano's name kicked around, as well as Richardson.

Beats me who he'll go with though. Not to sound too cynical, I'd guess he won't pick an Hispanic veep, simply because the Republicans are already delivering those votes to the Dems. That may mean he'll pick somebody that could more directly help with a different demo.

GravatarThe largest Hispanic group still in play is the Puerto Ricans, who by all accounts favor Hillary.

GravatarObama/Webb

GravatarObama/Webb

Nothing but the facts.

Gravatari think it will probably be obama/clinton when all is said and done...

GravatarGood morning.

I just want this to end.

Gravatarhi honeybear...

GravatarClinton would not accept a vice presidency. It.s not in her nature.

Gravatarhi fokowi

I don't know about that.

He really doesn't need her.

GravatarJust go away Hillary, please.

GravatarI don't know why any one would pick Clinton as veep anyway. After running on the slogan "ready to serve on day one", picking her would be a tacit admission you needed her "experience". I'll bet Michelle would rather just call her with any questions she has.

Gravatarthe conversation will go all the way to denver.

if we can't survive the process we deserve to lose in november...

GravatarMorning, kids.

GravatarIf both of them were beating up on McBombBomb I wouldn't mind it going all the way.

But they're beating up on each other and he's just sleepwalking through the whole thing. While the press is in adoration mode.

GravatarAh, at least we have a barkeep now.

GravatarThe largest Hispanic group still in play is the Puerto Ricans, who by all accounts favor Hillary.

Lancaster, with a large Puerto Rican population, seems to have gone for Obama.

The county as a whole went for him 54-46, and I don't have any numbers for the city but it's hard for me to see how it could have gone against that trend.

GravatarI meant Puerto Ricans in Puerto Rico, whose Governor (under investigation for corruption) is an Obama supporter -- But the Clintons have a solid base of support there.

GravatarClinton's speech, with her supporters changing "yes, SHE can".

If Obama can't win, maybe she can become him.

GravatarI gotta say, I'm weirded out by the results. I seem to be living in a different country.

GravatarAs was repeated ad nauseam last night it's the old, uneducated, white wimmin that are the problem. If we would just go away the whole thing would be decided.

GravatarThe one poll that's been run in Puerto Rico says 50-37 for Hillary. 800 registered voters, poll ended 4/5.

GravatarI gotta say, I'm weirded out by the results. I seem to be living in a different country.

Don't let Das mimi know.

GravatarIf the people who thought the AUMF was moronic went away Clinton would have been beatified already.

GravatarDon't let Das mimi know.

Oh Noes!!!!!

GravatarI gave you kids sheets.

GravatarThe "nuke Iran" thing is just so over the top.

Really, has any US president actually threatened to use nuclear weapons, in a public way, like that?

GravatarI have a feeling McCain wouldn't wait for them to attack Israel. He'd probably wait to put on a fresh diaper first, but still.

GravatarI approve of what Hillary said about Iran. so it's perfectly fine for Iran to Nuke Israel and Obama will still have Ahmedinijad over for tea? just another reason why this Dem can't support Obama. Is that the Obama platform? Do nothing if Israel is nuked?
