GravatarThe University of Cambridge is proposing to drop the requirement for a foreign language GCSE as part of its admissions criteria to attract more children from state schools.

Cambridge said it is the only university that still insists on a core of subjects students must have studied if they want to apply for a place at one of its colleges, which includes a GCSE level A to C in a foreign language.

But from next September Cambridge wants to scrap the system and leave it up to individual departments to specify the subjects and qualifications required.

One reason behind the change was the government's decision to drop a compulsory foreign language from the national curriculum after 14.

The change in the curriculum has been significant, the university said. In 2000 80% of all school students - from both the private and state schools - took a foreign language at GCSE, but that has now fallen to below 50%. The number of state schools where students are required to study a foreign language after 14 is now around 17%, the university said.

GravatarTHE PRESIDENT: I think we're in an unusual period. We went through 52 consecutive months of uninterrupted job growth, and like any free market there's also downturns, and we're in one. And the question is how best to react during the downturn. Fortunately, we anticipated the downturn and have proposed a temporary, robust stimulus package — which hasn't yet to happen.

You know, people believe — the experts believe, and they tell me — and I'm certainly no economic expert, but they tell me that this package will have a very positive effect on the economy throughout the year.

You're not an economic expert?

GravatarZURICH, Switzerland (AP) - Swiss police say they fired tear gas at pro-Tibet demonstrators who tried to storm the Chinese consulate in Zurich.

Hundreds of people took part in the protest Saturday against a Chinese crackdown on riots protesting its rule of Tibet.

Swiss Police say tear gas was used when several protesters attempted to break into the consulate.

Tibetan groups want the Swiss government to press China on its human rights record.

Switzerland has condemned the violence in Tibet and urged China to safeguard people's right to free expression.

Chinese media are reporting that 10 people were killed on Friday when demonstrators clashed with security forces in Tibet's capital Lhasa. Exile group say the toll could be as high as 100.

It's a joke. The "job growth" the beady-eyed insect refers to was anemic with the growth being less than what was necessary given the size of the US work force. Atrios posts the government job report every month - we've all seen the lower numbers.

The type/quality of the jobs are another problem.

Bush is a joke, also.

GravatarThe Federation of Poles in Great Britain has "reluctantly" contacted the Press Complaints Commission, accusing the Daily Mail of defaming Polish residents in the UK.

In its letter of complaint to the PCC, the federation accused the Daily Mail of printing articles that gave rise to "negative emotions and tensions between the new EU immigrants and local communities".

The Daily Mail has strongly rejected the complaint. A spokesman insisted the paper was "not in any way anti-Polish" and said that it ran plenty of positive stories about people from Poland.

The FPGB letter, sent last month, also complained about 50 Daily Mail headlines it said displayed anti-Polish sentiment.

The organisation claimed that the paper has a deliberate policy aimed at encouraging discrimination against immigrants, in particular Poles and their families.

GravatarFor what it's worth this is what they think of the US efforts on the other side of the world.

Fed Efforts Failing
Ben S. Bernanke can't revive the US housing market and the banks aren't helping him.

The US Federal Reserve has cut interest rates five times, pumped $US200 billion ($213 billion) into the financial system this week, and on Friday its New York branch provided funds to help rescue Bear Stearns Cos.

None of that has brought down mortgage rates for residential borrowers, whose success in refinancing or buying would help bolster the US economy.

GravatarHard-line allies of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad are ahead in Iran's parliamentary election, partial results suggest.

But conservative critics of Mr Ahmadinejad also appear to be making a strong showing that could undermine his domination of the parliament.

Reformists are said to be struggling after large numbers of their candidates were barred from the race.

The United States says this means the results were "cooked".

The Associated Press (AP) news agency reports that 144 out of 290 parliamentary seats have been decided so far.

Quoting state television, official news agency IRNA and reports from local officials, AP says pro-Ahmadinejad politicians have won 53 seats, reformists 18, and conservative critics of Mr Ahmadinejad 38.

did the Banks collude? Is that why they are getting bailed out? I mean that's anti free-market isn't it? Did they receive a promise of protection if they helped the bushies create jobs?

DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) -- Supporters of Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton are once again ardently courting Iowa Democratic activists as they vie for the support of delegates pledged to departed rival John Edwards.

Edwards finished second in the state's leadoff precinct caucuses on Jan. 3, but those caucuses are only the first step in a complicated process of picking the state's 45 pledged delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Denver in August.

The next step in that process are the conventions held Saturday in each of the state's 99 counties, where 13,000 activists gathered to elect delegates to congressional district and state conventions.

GravatarWe have now seen more sermons from Barack Obama's minister in 48 hours than we ever did of Mike Huckabee ---- and Mike Huckabee was a presidential candidate for 14 long months. Why is it acceptable to scour every last sermon given by Wright, but only weeks ago we weren't allowed to see or read Mike Huckabee's sermons? In fact, not only was it totally ignored by the traditional media, but the few times the question of Huckabee's sermons was raised, it was brushed aside as inappropriate.

GravatarSorry to say but Keith joined the MSNBC crowd in anti-Hillary all the time. Wonder if the memo went out from upstairs that this is the new program.

GravatarWell, Atrios struggled for a while with how to handle his traffic, since he's just one person. For a while, we had a Threadbot, which threw out random lines from Pink Floyd and Gilbert and Sullivan. But since there's generally someone around, this is a better solution.

GravatarSo what is it, John? Was he anti-baptist before he was pro baptist?

In media reports, however, McCain has consistently referred to himself as Episcopalian and told McClatchy Newspapers in June that while his wife and two of their children have been baptized in the Baptist church, he had not.

"I didn't find it necessary to do so for my spiritual needs," he said.

How do they get away with it? The dissonance is driving me nuts.

Could someone please post a youtube video showing the sanctimonious punkinhaid saying "it's about the war, it's about health care, it's about our sons and daughters," blah blah blah and juxtapose this with what the sonofabitch ACTUALLY talks about? Someone please do this at least for the historical record.

Gravatarjuan: and if we had heard Huckabee, say, sermonizing about evil-ution, it'd have been apologised for as irrelevant.

Like I said, you parse a Huckabee for code words, and the truth emerges rather quickly from the rhetoric. That's why he had traction much less widespread than had been assumed.

Those who despair of the country, and I'm occasionally one of them, should reflect on the failure of Huckabee, and Thompson, and Giuliani, and Romney in the primaries.

GravatarThis is an old story-- that gushing cockney Robin somebody parlayed "Lifestyles of the Rich & Famous" into a career, for a while at least.

There's a documentary out on DVD now called Maxed Out about the credit industry and how American consumers are jammed up with debt. They interview that Robin guy about his Lifestyles show and he's all like, "Oh, people want to see what they can have, conspicuous consumption, all that jazz, blah blah blah."

It's a pretty frightening movie, even if you're already familiar with the ground they cover.

GravatarI usually find the letters to the editor to be the most informative part of the editorial pages. Here's a letter in today's WP:

Exiled to display in the March 5 Business section's Local Briefing was the news that the cost of a new presidential helicopter developed by Lockheed Martin has risen to $7.5 billion. Does President Bush have any regard at all for taxpayers?

I suggest you do some digging into this breathtaking expenditure. As it stands, you treated it, incredibly, as a local business story worth two paragraphs. Such a shocking story demands more than this casual treatment.

Parsley has his own history of controversial statements. As David Corn reported this week for Mother Jones, Parsley has called for Christians to wage war against the "false religion" of Islam, in order to destroy it. He does not distinguish between Islamic extremists and ordinary Muslims. "What some call ‘extremists’ are instead mainstream believers who are drawing from the well at the very heart of Islam," he has written.

That's how it starts. He's moved his blood-soil-motherland racism and facsism to the point where it can be said, out loud, and nobody blinks; after all, Pat's really a nice guy at heart, just like that wonderful Bill Buckley.

GravatarToday is the kind of day one wants to crawl back into bed and pull the covers over their heads. All the news is so depressing and frightening.

Just this week I have had more people who survived the Great Depression tell me that what we are witnessing is a reminder of what happened in the 30's.

The bunch of criminals we have running this nation have done their level best to destroy all the safeguards that were put into place to avoid an economic meltdown. I have never been so scared in my life.

Not only did these genius hedge fund owners and the bankers bundle mortgages and sell them ,they did it to student loans. In today's NYT, there is an article about how student loans will be much less available for kids going to college in the fall. Those who can grab any are going to pay prohibitive rates.

Between the never-ending wars, the collapse of the economy, fuel prices, the cost of food, lack of health care, destroying the future for college bound kids, screwing the senior citizen's by giving broad power to the Pharma industry--I hope anyone even remotely connected to and those who cheered this bunch of crooks on will roast in hell for the rest of their days.

As for Bush and Cheney, SHOULD and that is a big if right now, Obama win--the only words I want to hear from the steps of the Capitol on inaugrual day, is "Arrest these men and women."

GravatarMore than 1,400 rejected Iraqi asylum seekers are to be told they must go home or face destitution in Britain as the government considers Iraq safe enough to return them, according to leaked Home Office correspondence seen by the Guardian.

The Iraqis involved are to be told that unless they sign up for a voluntary return programme to Iraq within three weeks, they face being made homeless and losing state support. They will also be asked to sign a waiver agreeing the government will take no responsibility for what happens to them or their families once they return to Iraqi territory.

The decision by the home secretary, Jacqui Smith, to declare that it is safe to send asylum seekers back to Iraq comes after more than 78 people have been killed in incidents across Iraq since last Sunday.

The United Nations high commissioner for refugees (UNHCR) said its policy was that returns of asylum seekers to central and southern Iraq and for some categories to the north of the country were not advisable because of the continuing conflict.

The Refugee Council said the decision disclosed by the Guardian was a shocking example of the government's policy of using destitution to starve people into leaving the country.

I've not read it, but part of the problem in general history courses you do get the simplified and innacurate version of the European theatre of WWII. I'm not unfamiliar with Soviet history and European history, and so don't find his premise earth shattering at all.

GravatarBy the way, last night I disturbed my usual routine and actually stepped out of my abode.

I went to see Henry Rollins give one of his talks--three hours and a minute. He talked of his travels to Beirut, Islamabad, Tehran, and other "hot" spots, always with his overly-curious need to see what' happening with regular folk.

Mr. Rollins struggles against his own cycnicism, and has given me a banquet for thought.

I was on my numb feet the moment he was done, applauding wildly.

GravatarClinton-Obama War Creates Serious Tensions at DailyKos

March 15, 2008 10:14 AM

This is how ugly things have gotten between supporters of Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama -- Clinton supporters are staging what they call a "strike" at the influential liberal website DailyKos.

It's not really a "strike" -- blogging for these diarists is not a job, and stopping their blogging won't cause them financial hardship.

But, that said, these diarists' boycott of DailyKos is indicative of the turmoil in which the Democratic party finds itself.

GravatarLONDON (Reuters) - The Foreign Office on Saturday dismissed as "inconceivable" calls by an ex-aide to former Prime Minister Tony Blair to open a channel of communication with al Qaeda.

Jonathan Powell, who served as Blair's chief of staff between 1995 and 2007, said he would "want to find a channel to al Qaeda" if he was still in government, the Guardian newspaper reported.

He was quoted as saying that a secret back channel between the British government and the IRA, first opened in the 1970s, was a key factor that contributed to a peace deal in Northern Ireland three decades later, which he was central to securing.

Only by talking to al Qaeda and the Taliban in Afghanistan could Western governments hope to secure a long-term halt in their campaigns of violence, he was reported as saying.

But the Foreign Office said: "It is inconceivable that Her Majesty's government would ever seek to reach a mutually acceptable accommodation with a terrorist organisation like al Qaeda."

Powell was speaking ahead of the publication of his book "Great Hatred, Little Room", which is to be serialised in the newspaper.

GravatarProf Wombat:

Do you have any info on this (from wikipedia):

Davies’ supporters contend that he gives due attention to the genocide and war crimes perpetrated by both Hitler and Stalin on Polish Jews and non-Jews. Davies himself argues that "Holocaust scholars need have no fears that rational comparisons might threaten that uniqueness. Quite the opposite." and that "...one needs to re-construct mentally the fuller picture in order to comprehend the true enormity of Poland’s wartime cataclysm, and then to say with absolute conviction ‘Never Again’."[4][5]
In 1986, Dawidowicz’s criticism of Davies’ historical treatment of the Holocaust was cited as a factor in a controversy at Stanford University in which Davies was denied a tenured faculty position for alleged "scientific flaws". Davies sued the university for breach of contract and defamation of character, but in 1989 the court ruled that it did not have jurisdiction in an academic matter.

GravatarHighly educated parents were more prone to stop their children having the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) jab during the scare over the vaccine, research has indicated.

A report into attitudes towards the joint MMR injection found a lower take-up rate among parents had gone on to further education.

They were also less likely to to have their children immunised against other diseases following the controversy surrounding MMR, authors of the study found.

Claims that the vaccine increased the risk of autism, first made in a 1998 study for The Lancet, kick-started a decade-long debate over the use of the single MMR jab.

A team from Royal Holloway, University of London, examined data from the Millennium Cohort Study to see how attitudes towards the vaccines changed following the allegations - which have since been debunked by much of the scientific community.

It involved a show back in the day, when they opened for Nugent, and the audience turned on the Nuge, screaming for more of Van Halen. Old Ted threw a star fit.

The best part of the tale was Rollins' impersonation of Diamond David Lee Roth.

Oh c'mon, woo is harmless.

GravatarAn outbreak of measles has been confirmed in Scotland, sparking a warning that children need to be fully vaccinated.

There have been 36 reported cases, 28 of which have been confirmed by Health Protection Scotland (HPS.)

The majority of the cases involved children under 16 years of age who have not received a complete course of the MMR vaccine.

Last year there were four cases and in 2006 there were 28 in the whole year.

GravatarLONDON (Reuters) - Police are investigating an alleged faith-hate crime after a priest was attacked in a churchyard in east London.

Canon Michael Ainsworth suffered cuts and bruises after being hit in the grounds of St George-in-the-East church in Canon Street Road near Whitechapel.

Two Asian youths are alleged to have attacked the 57-year-old churchman while hurling insults at his occupation, police said.

The incident took place at about 7 p.m. on March 5.

Mebbe now we can finally agree that violence does not solve problems. It's taken us so goddamned painfully long to figure that out. From now on, we will resolve conflicts, of all kinds, ONLY through the nonviolent means of dialogue based on mutual respect.

Got a problem with the "mutual respect" aspect of this equation? Then sincerely ask yourself why that is.

Let's get over letting the utilities tell us how to think. We have the technology to transcend their greedy dominance. All we lack is the will.

GravatarWhy aren't gooey "progressives" condemning Wright's sermons as "hate speech"?

You mean like this?

Wright, whom Obama has embraced as a spiritual mentor, in February delivered his final sermon as pastor of Obama's congregation at Trinity United Church of Christ. "How many children of biracial parents can make it in a world controlled by racist ideology?" he asked. "Children born to parents who are of two different
races do not have a snowball's chance in hell of making it in America, especially if the momma was white and the daddy was black. A child born to that union is an unfortunate statistic in a racially polarized society. But, if you use your mind, instead of a lost statistic in a hate-filled universe, you just may end up a law student at Harvard University. ..."

Gravatar"I'm having trouble wrapping my head around "the U.S. brought 9/11 on itself" being an offensive statement."

Exactly. As we have our troops stationed in over 70 foreign countries, and we can't see that we're perceived as an imperial power? What an arrogant, pathetic and blind joke. We failed to see the negative consequences of our own behavior, as if the law of cause and effect didn't apply to us.

In a progressive universe that operates on cause and effect, the only permanent aspect of which is change itself, conservatism is slow, self-defeating suicide.

GravatarHecate-

Bought a very clever bird feeder from Target that closes all entries with the weight of a squirrel. I had been looking for a decent one, but they were all high-priced. This was $24. The squirrels finally gave up and now catch the seeds on the ground.

GravatarI will, Moe!

I'm still hoping to be down in May for the Bluenose Marathon, if I can recover from this nagging hip problem in time to be ready.

GravatarFor some reason, there are no squirrels in my neighbourhood. We get the ocassional bear, tho.

Gravatari havent followed rev. wright's actual comments and all but i saw him wearing some sort of brightly patterned shirt that made him look 'foreign' and therefore highly

suspect

GravatarRobins! I have two robins, scoping out the nest possibilities in my fig tree! It's sixty degrees and sunny and I think Spring decided to come a week early!

[looks out at snow]

[sighs]

GravatarIs that about right? Phila

You, sir, are as full of pith as truth.

Gravataris it called a 'dashika' or something like that?

why doesn't 'pastor' hagee wear more colourful clothes?

like maybe manna and blood soaked robes

GravatarI'm not mer but I swear I'll shoot the next squirrel I see.

Bastards.

[cough] -------------->

GravatarI'm still hoping to be down in May for the Bluenose Marathon

My broken wrist screwed up everything. I'm heading over to the gym in a sec to do the treadmill thing, but no way could I run a marathon. Not even the half.

Gravatarbye for now

GravatarHe wears African-Style block-print vestments in one of the tapes.

GravatarI'm a little out of the loop on this Rev. Wright thing, but the gist of it seems to be that he said we suffered violence on 9/11 because we'd inflicted violence on other countries, instead of claiming that it was God's righteous judgment on coastal urban decadence, like (for instance) Dinesh D'Souza. Is that about right?

Pretty much it in a nutshell.

Any criticism of the Greatest Country in the World (TM) that implies that we are in control of our own destiny and we've used that control to make ourselves an international pariah is to be denounced as treason no matter what the actual facts might show.

i saw a website from wisconsin where a guy uses a civil war style howitzer to hunt deer.

totally illegal

GravatarThanks - but baptism covers all necessary 'saving' - anything more is just boastful.

Happy Birthday Hecate!

And, now - nap or ironing?

Gravatar...the gist of it seems to be that he said we suffered violence on 9/11 because we'd inflicted violence on other countries, instead of claiming that it was God's righteous judgment on coastal urban decadence, like (for instance) Dinesh D'Souza. Is that about right?

DING DING DING DING DING!

GravatarThere was a day last year a goddamned deer was back in my garden. How the hell it got there, I don't have a clue.

GravatarHappy Birthday Hecate!

And, now - nap or ironing?

Thank you! And, nap! The ironing will still be there.

GravatarDo you have squirrels? If I put out seeds, the birds don't get any because the squirrels eat them all up.
Hecate, Runnymeade Conspirator

I don't have squirrels, but I put out seeds for the birds, mostly finches, morning doves and pidgeons. Then, in the midst of their feasting, a magnificent Cooper's hawk shows up and scares everybody away...

GravatarI esp. like how Obama managed to not mention Revs. Hagee, Robertson, or Falwell in his copious "mea culpa" on Faux News.

GravatarWhen I call squirrels "bastards" I mean that the lovely little creatures gnaw gnaw gnaw into my house and run about forcing me to spend a great deal of money removing them.

Otherwise, they're fine.

.

GravatarHow the hell it got there, I don't have a clue.

Wasting away again, in Margarittaville!

GravatarOkay, I'll brave this horizontal snow. See ya'all later.

GravatarDeer are very springy. Think Impalas bounding across the veldt.

Gravatar There was a day last year a goddamned deer was back in my garden. How the hell it got there, I don't have a clue.

Did you see the deer in pajamas?

GravatarMy broken wrist screwed up everything. I'm heading over to the gym in a sec to do the treadmill thing, but no way could I run a marathon. Not even the half.

Aw, if you had the time required to put in the training I'm sure you'd sail right through.

The challenge is in being able to make the time commitment to log the miles. I'm lucky that I can usually find enough hours.

GravatarAfternoon, rational people.

And a very special Happy and Joyous Birthday to you, Hecate.

I am deeply grateful to whatever stands behind this universe for your birth.

GravatarThe new chef reality show must be really something. Woolcott thinks there's too much cussing

Gravatarmaybe you could offer to write obama's speeches for him dave

GravatarI'm lucky that I can usually find enough hours.
SteveNS

Well, I'm getting older, more employed, etc. Maybe when the weather turns.

Now, I'm outtahere.

GravatarMoe bench-presses great weights with his legs. I think the muscles are developed in a way inimical to distance running.

GravatarIt's Hecate's birfday?

What do you get the witch who has everything?

.

GravatarOne way to get rid of deer and squirrels is to add hot sauce to the seeds. It doesn't bother the birds, but aggravates deer and squirrels.

GravatarHappy birthday, Hecate!

GravatarThe Elder Wand?

Gravatarwe get coyotes in the city and the odd deer who somehow ends up wandering a system of ravines ending up totally bewildered

GravatarIt doesn't bother the birds, but aggravates deer and squirrels.

I'd be a little worried about having a bunch of aggravated deer and squirrels on the property.

Gravatarmy dear departed mother's dear departed second husband used to put out salt blocks in the woods for the deer

Gravatar"Do you have squirrels? If I put out seeds, the birds don't get any because the squirrels eat them all up."
--Hecate

Yes. But they seem to share. Sometimes there are squirrels and birds no more than a foot apart, all happily eating. I did away with the bird feeder because the squirrels won't let the birds near it. Now I just sling four or five cups of sunflower seeds under the pine tree.

GravatarI'd be a little worried about having a bunch of aggravated deer and squirrels on the property.

you always have a way of summing things up...........

GravatarI think the muscles are developed in a way inimical to distance running.

Fortunately, I'm built like a whippet.

It almost compensates for my cardiovascular shortcomings.

I think I have the heart and lungs of a 2-packs-a-day couch potato.

But I look like I ought to be able to run like the wind, so I try anyway.

GravatarVia Mark Evanier, here's a video featuring a brief interview with Jim Backus.

Gravatarwell steveNS anybody who can run a marathon is doing something right

GravatarI think I have the heart and lungs of a 2-packs-a-day couch potato.

Even being sick, I've noticed a significant improvement of my lung function after a month of not smoking. It's crazy.

GravatarSo I see over at Orange Satan, Mr. Swoosh-Gong is organizing a strike against the strike diarists.

"Tool" is too good a word for that guy...

Gravatardear departed mother's dear departed second husband was a bit of a cocky guy.
he'd go deer hunting with one bullet.

said it was all he needed.
and every year he'd get a deer.

heart attack and died one year deer hunting without having fired his rifle.

Gravatar
I'd be a little worried about having a bunch of aggravated deer and squirrels on the property.

I have the hateful squirrels but my mom has the deer.

You try to shoo! them away and they look at you like "youwanna make something of this? Huh?"

And I'm talking the does.

.

Gravatarand no he didn't hunt the deer he put out the salt for.......
that was on their property

Gravataraggravated deer and squirrels sounds like the making for a dr seuss type madcap adventure

Gravatar"I have cloven hooves, bub; and I know how to use them!"

GravatarHmm. Trifecta was taking the boy to "Horton....".
Wonder how that was?

Gravatarre-freakin'-HICA!
.

GravatarOh, the red-bellied woodpecker just showed up. I have no idea why they are called that, the only red I can see is the cap on the top of their heads. We do have pileated woodpeckers in the woods, though they have never bothered with the sunflower seeds.

GravatarDeer are very springy

Sounds like they'd make good sofa cushions. Wouldn't even have to kill 'em, either. Just tie 'em down real good.
G'nite, hon!
G'nite sweethtart. Oh, did you remember to feed the couch?

GravatarWhere LE and Curly?

Gravatarjus put your wristwatch and socks on the antlers eh elmer?

Gravatar"I have cloven hooves, bub; and I know how to use them!"

The Jews have a point, y'know.

But there's no mention of squirrels in the Pentateuch.

Moses was a dope!

GravatarThis conversation is making me feel very guilty about not filling my feeding stations before I left the house this morning...

--spork_incident

We've had some racoons like that. Coming up on the back porch when we're trying to eat and saying, I'd like one of those burger too.

GravatarI doubt if these people would bother joining if they didn't think he had a significent chance of winning:

(warning/report kos)

McCain is beefing up his billionaire team of high tech advisors. Meg Whitman, former CEO of Ebay, is joining the McCain campaign. There is speculation that she is planning a 2010 run for Governor of California. In addition to a slew of lobbyists, McCain's crew also consist of former Hewlett Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina and Cisco CEO John Chambers.

GravatarSaw a raccoon t'other day, but he or she was scrawny, not at all menacing like an urban raccoon.

GravatarGotta give Apple a lot of credit. Zapette just tripped over her laptop cord, and since it's attached to the computer magnetically, it just pops right off. Very clever.

GravatarI used to live in a town called Salt Point. I was told it was where the cattle were brought just before being sold. The extra salt made them drink more and added to their weight, and profit. I told this story a few months ago to someone who said, now they feed them concrete.

Enjoy your steak.

that's incredible. very clever indeed.

GravatarThe wireless Mighty Mouse is tres cool, too.

mer

the red belly's do have a small patch of red on their belly. It's hard to spot 'cause they're always pressed up against the tree. I have a pair that visit my feeder year around.

The Pileated are fruit eaters. I've planted a stand of wild plum for them & the turkeys.

Gravatarsheeties

Gravatar"Tool" is too good a word for that guy...
dave

Jeebus, they take themselves seriously.

So as bad as it has been here, I guess it was worse over there.

GravatarWe've had some racoons like that.

I've only had one raccoon invasion; I think they were, uh, having it off.

But I shudder at the thought of raccoons getting into my house like squirrels.

My deep fryer has that.

Anyone willingly jumping on board the McCain campaign can go fuck themselves.

What more could W have done to destroy the Republican brand, and there are still nitwits who want to join in?

Amazing.

GravatarMeg Whitman, former CEO of Ebay, is joining the McCain campaign. There is speculation that she is planning a 2010 run for Governor of California.

I think Ms. Whitman needs a little reality check if she thinks working for John McCain is going to help her get elected governator in California.

Bend over, bitch!

GravatarWe can do nothing else.

Nothing, until we end this fucking crime.

GravatarI used to live in a town called Salt Point.

I grew up just up the road in Stanfordville. First I'd heard the cow story though........

GravatarMcCain's crew also consist of former Hewlett Packard CEO, Carly Fiorina and Cisco CEO John Chambers.

Carly Fiorina is the George W. Bush of tech executives.
