Friedman's book From Beirut to Jerusalem is actually a very erudite and fascinating look at Middle Eastern culture. I'm quite surprised that he supported the invasion Iraq, especially given some of his insights in that book regarding the fiasco that was the 1982 Israeli invasion of Lebanon.
