The Politics of An Israeli Extermination Campaign Backers, Apologists and Arms Suppliers By James Petras Israel's totalitarian vision is driven by the practice of a permanent purge of Arab Palestine informed by Zionism, an ethno-racist ideology, promulgated by the Jewish state and justified, enforced and pursued by its organized backers in the United States. http://

HOLY SHIT!
Did Juan Cole nail it. And I believe he's Jewish as well:
Earlier on Saturday CNN invited Gen. David Grange on, one of the military commentators outed by the New York Times as part of a Pentagon influence-peddling scheme for the media. Grange kept talking about what "we" would do if "we" took rocket fire the way the Israelis had from Hamas. Grange did not say what "we" would do if militant European refugees landed at Newport Beach, took over Virginia, expelled its population, and then kept the refugees from McLean huddling over in West Virginia in camps for decades with no reparations, recently denying them sufficient food and fuel to avoid a humanitarian crisis. But of course that would never happen to the Granges, so why bother to even mention any point of view but the hawks'? http://www.juancole.com/

Rainbow Room to close restaurant, citing economy
NEW YORK (AP) - The recession has reached the ritzy Rainbow Room, the special-occasion spot that overlooks midtown Manhattan from high above the tourist-attracting Rockefeller Center skating rink.
WNBC-TV reports that the owners plan to shutter the Italian-themed Rainbow Grill restaurant temporarily while keeping the establishment's bar, banquet space and dinner-dancing going on the 65th floor of the RCA building.
The Rainbow Room has symbolized glamour since it opened in 1934, during the Great Depression.

So there's a penguin driving through the desert and its hot.... really hot. The penguin drives for several hours through the scorching desert until his car breaks down.
The penguin pulls out his cell phone and calls a local auto shop. The mechanic brings the tow truck to the penguins car, picks him up and takes him and his car back to the auto shop.
When they arrive the mechanic says "It's going to take me a few hours to fix your car, why don't you walk around town and entertain yourself for awhile."
The penguin leaves the auto shop and as he walks out the door notices an ice cream shop... "a little taste of home" he thinks to himself.
The penguin walks over to the ice cream shop and orders his favorite frozen treat... vanilla ice cream. He sits down at a table and goes to town on his vanilla ice cream, making a huge mess and getting ice cream all over himself. He finishes his ice cream and heads back to the auto shop.
When he arrives the mechanic comes out and says "Well sir, its looks like you blew a seal" to which the penguin replies "Oh no, its just ice cream"

You have to be careful with the word "oppress" with British military history because after all they defined that word in several separate periods. fucking banks - Britain's banks are defying the government by starving businesses and households of loans and warning that credit will become even scarcer in the first three months of this year.
A Bank of England survey found that in spite of Gordon Brown's call for more loans, lenders had further reduced the amount of credit available in the last three months of 2008 and warned that they planned to continue to pare back. Banks and building societies are being deterred from lending by the worsening economic outlook and the fall in house prices and other assets against which loans are secured.
The dire picture painted by the quarterly survey was reinforced by separate data yesterday showing a record low for new mortgages being granted and figures from Halifax, the UK's biggest mortgage lender, that showed house prices in December were down 16% on a year earlier.
Labour backbench MPs seized on the figures to put more pressure on Brown and Alistair Darling to take action to kick-start lending in the face of what economists warn could be a deep and painful recession. Interest rates are already at a 58-year low and are expected to fall even further from their current 2% after Thursday's meeting of the Bank's monetary policy committee.
Despite a £37bn bail-out package to buy shares in Royal Bank of Scotland and the soon-to-be-merged Lloyds TSB and HBOS, there are concerns that lenders are not heeding government demands to keep competitively priced loans available.
Reagan didn't even give the Grenadians an ultimatum, or insult their mothers or anything. Just flat out invaded, no warning.

The Grenada invasion really is reamed sideways by one of our favorite military analysts, Richard Gabriel, who points out astonishing mistakes as part of his thesis that it should not be enough for a great military power just to win, they should actually do a reasonably good job of soldiering as well. The picture Gabriel paints does nothing to contradict the idea that Grenada was a last-minute PR offensive.

The Sri Lankan army today seized control of Kilinochchi, the low-lying northern town in which separatist Tamil Tiger rebels had put together the institutions of their long sought-after independent state.
The major symbolic victory for the government could also prove a decisive turning point in the country's 25-year civil war.
"This was an unparalleled victory," the president, Mahinda Rajapakse, said in a televised speech from his office.
"Kilinochchi was the capital of a state dreamt of by a terrorist organisation. It will no longer be available to them. We should pay the gratitude of the whole nation to those heroic soldiers who achieved that victory."
Soon after the announcement, a loud blast rocked the Sri Lankan air force headquarters, opposite a luxury hotel in the heart of the national capital, Colombo, as a suicide bomber blew himself up, killing three people and injuring 37.
It's ridiculous, there's a fucking shoe for everything.

I missed that part. Why did they put the driveway in before they put the door in?
And unless they put some sort of heating system under the driveway, it will not be pleasant to drive on in the winter.
Heck, I wouldn't want to be on it when it's wet, period.

Tens of thousands of protesters showed their anger at the Israeli bombing of Gaza today in a series of rallies across the UK that included throwing shoes at the gates of Downing Street.
More than a thousands pairs of footwear were thrown by protesters marching down Whitehall. A firework was also set off metres from the Downing Street gates.
The organisers said they wanted to leave shoes at the gates as a Muslim symbol of disgust at the attacks. When they were prevented from doing so, protesters began throwing their footwear, mimicking the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoes at George Bush at a press conference last month.

Rising unemployment creates a ripple effect, causing the number of consumers, consumer spending and consumer confidence to shrink, and puts downward revenue pressure on small business owners, who often compensate for lost revenue from fewer consumers coming into their business by laying off workers, which adds to the rising unemployment...which puts downward pressure of small business owners, who lay off workers, which increases unemployment levels...in other words, a vicious economic cycle, called a recession or even a Great Depression.
It's all about keeping money flowing into the lowest levels of an economy, by whatever means possible.
Otherwise small businesses are pinched which leads to commercial real estate properties being pinched which leads to suppliers and manufacturers being pinched, which leads to lays off and more people on the unemployment rolls, shrinking the consumer base even more.
So, the outgoing Bush administration, and Paulson, decided that throwing $700 Billion in "bail-out" money at the top would somehow shore-up the consumer base at the bottom. (Luckily, they only got their greedy hands on about $350 Billion of it). All that Paulson's plot...er, plan has done is throw taxpayer money at the white-collar thieves who caused this economic meltdown in the first place with their tricky derivative financial schemes.
The answer still remains the same as it was in September...start the economic recovery with a bottom-up strategy, not the top-down one Paulson pushed. One gets money into the hands of consumers at the bottom who will spend it, bolstering small businesses in the process, keeping even more people from becoming unemployed...while the other is just trickle-down voodoo Reaganomics, like the outsourcing of jobs and manufacturing overseas.
Once again, corrupt Republicans and other wealthy conservatives got it ass-backwards...and things have gone from bad to worse for many taxpaying consumers in America, as well as small business and commercial property owners. Obama's Economic Stimulus Package will only work if the consumer base is shored-up immediately. Corrupt Republicans (especially in the U.S. Senate) will block any attempt to do this...and things will continue to worsen for many American workers and their families, and small business owners and their families. One doesn't have to be a prophet to see this.
The Oracle |
01.03.09 - 9:51 pm | #
Oh, I forgot to mention the adverse effect the rapidly shrinking consumer base is having on local and state governments. One can see this rapidly deteriorating situation almost everywhere, in every town, in every state.
Of course, the corrupt Republican's answer is their no-taxes mantra, or their compromise regressive tax schemes...even as local and state governments are pinched and public services suffer.
The only sane answer is to raise taxes on the top-tier wealthiest in our society while not sucking anymore money out of the pockets of bottom-tier consumers and small business owners, but corrupt Republicans and other conservatives believe (fanatically) that their wealth creation trumps the well-being of all other American citizens and their families, both workers and small business owners alike...meaning that these conservatives have a Banana Republican mentality which can only lead to a national disaster for our country.
But what do these typical conservatives care? They've got theirs. The rest of the country can eat shit.
And what's ironic is that some of these typical conservatives claim that America is a "Christian nation." Could of fooled me, especially after all the crap that these typical conservatives have pulled over the past eight years.
