Tom Friedman discovers Global Warming:
http://www.aspentimes.com/articl.../NEWS/
603282694
The New York Times columnist brought the Aspen crowd to its feet, as he often does, with a stirring speech on what’s at stake with global warming and the solutions possible through a “green revolution.”...
“The weather is going to get weird,” he said....
“We are the first generation of human beings that are going to have to think [like] Noah,” Friedman said. “Friends, we are now the flood. We have to build an ark.”...
After bumming out the capacity crowd of roughly 350 people, Friedman promised there is hope. He said he sees signs of revolution. Most people now acknowledge global warming, humans’ role in it and some are even taking action. He believes “out-greening” one another will become the norm between individuals, companies and even countries.
“Right now, we have a country full of green hobbyists,” he said....
Friedman’s outline of the global warming problems and solutions is the topic of his latest book. “Hot, Flat and Crowded — Why We Need a Green Revolution” is due out in September...
“The book is really about we’ve got a problem; the world’s got a problem,” Friedman said.
***or is he just selling a book? What a Huckster. Next Spring Thomas Friedman's new book - "Why Iraq Was the Wrong Choice (instead of iran) and Why We Need To Get Out Now."

In fact, I'd like to see people sending donations to the ACLU and Planned Parenthood in Obama's name, and letting his campaign know: this is money you're NOT getting
I actually did something somewhat similiar to that after the last FISA round. Via email, then a phone call to the support center, I told the Obama campaign I had removed my name from his mailing list, removed my "My Barak Obama" page, etc, and would not be donating another cent to his campaign because I was going to give my support and time to Blue America instead. I assured them that he'd get my vote, I still thought he was the best candidate available to me, but my admiration, blood, sweat and money were going to shore up the progressive cause around the areas where I felt the Senator was not being strong enough.
I don't think they cared much, but it made me feel better.
But I bet they'd care if thousands of us did it.

But I'd prefer to think he's following a losing campaign strategy -- which can still be corrected -- than to think that he's moving towards the positions he really plans to govern by.
A third Bush term from a Democrat would be too fucking depressing to contemplate. flory
Agreed, though I note that my 70-y-o mother's immediate take on Obama was that he was being packaged and sold to Dems as "the guy" exactly as Kerry was and that he would turn out to look pretty much like he's looking at present.
The single biggest "hope" factor for me and I assume many others was that he was going to offer a very clear choice to the country by being as far from McAnus as possible on issue after issue on which the majority support our position. So his immediately trying to systematically erase distinction after distinction is both disappointing and infuriating.
No. One. will vote GOP-lite when they can have the real thing. No. One.

JeffCo articulated what I've been thinking for a few days now. Ask 100 people about FISA and I bet not a one will know what's all about. All they'll know is that the prez has to be able to keep us safe against terrorism. Ditto with late term abortions. They're icky. People will vote the personality. But the base will pay the bills.
Maybe Obama is trying to get this all out of the way early enough so that the effects will be blunted by November.

JeffCO, I agree completely, and would add that the problem is directly compounded by the press, who categorically refuse to report on issues of substance.
I was talking to a faculty member from Zimbabwe yesterday. He said he could maybe understand the lack of coverage about what's going on over there, IF the American press was instead ACTUALLY covering the real news here, but given the crap that the news obsesses about instead, well... we were both bitter about the media

Eggzackly.
It's the fucking stoopidity that pisses me off.
I can disagree with your campaign strategy and still support you. But not if you're going to follow the exact same LOSING strategy that's kept Dems out of power for a generation.
that makes it very hard for me to see why I should exert myself. My choices are either to succeed -- and get repukkke light. Or fail -- and get the real thing.
I want to invest in this future -- why?
On the other hand -- his campaign thru the primaries didn't appear to be run by idiots. Those people are smart enough to know that what he's doing is going to lose hime a lot of progessive support -- and money. Which is why I think he's picked up enough of Hilary's donors that he thinks he doesn't need us anymore.

Besides being on a comedy role today you are on an insight roll (open sesame seed roll?)
Just curious, has anyone here ever actually met or worked with some of the advisors/handlers that we are complaining about?
Who are the people who we believe are advising Obama to make these statements. I would REALLY like to know then focus some email, phone calls and personal conversations on these people.
How will you convince these people?
If you can't convince them you EXPOSE them and their ideas and say, "THIS DOESN'T work.
Now of course the media (whose favorite narrative is X vs. Y) will jump on this, so we also need a HERO on our side that is right and winning is the voice within the Obama campaign who is SCREAMING "DON'T MOVE RIGHT!"
you see in constructing a narrative you need to give the media ALL THE COMPONENTS because if you don't they will go find the pieces you have left out and them might get the story wrong.
I did this with my story. I didn't want the ACLU to be my "defender" because they would probably be on the side of the talk radio hosts. I found and educated the EFF first. I don't talk about this part much because for most people it isnt' relevant, but prepping for a narrative change and a fight takes time and thought. And you folks helped me with your time and thoughts. So let's help the Obama camp, because I'm sure there is one of us in side who need to say, "The move to the Right is a LOSING strategy We will WIN without it. Democrats have LOST WITH it so now we can kiss it goodbye, we don't need to try again.
So help me out here. If anyone has the brains to find out the players and kick some "lean right" ass, it's us. Let's find names and email addresses.
