Or it wasn't the voters that voted. Michigan only went for Hillary because the organizational system got once-every-thousand-years fouled up by its Republican legislature. Hillary was literally the only candidate Michigan Democrats were allowed to vote for. Florida is ... fucked up as a matter of definition. Really Michigan was split between two Republicans who have dropped out, Romney (a native Michigander who actually bothered to notice that we're fucking dying over here) and Paul (the only candidate on either side witrh the kind of grassroots activity and visibility that he had).

That would be Karl Rove. After rigging two previous presidential elections, this master of deceit would have us believe that he's gone off to sit in a corner and write op-eds.
Not so. According to an article in Time Magazine, Republican party activists have been organized to throw their weight behind Barack Obama, the democratic rival of frontrunner Hillary Clinton. Early in Obama's campaign, major G.O.P. fundraisers and several recently indicted figures in Chicago flushed his coffers with cash, something the deep pockets hadn't done for any candidate in their own party. With receipts topping $100 million in 2007, the first-term Illinois senator broke the record for contributions. It was a remarkable feat, considering that most Americans had not even heard of him before 2005.
The Rezko connection has not been discussed much either. I have to find some links to verify what I've read. I didn't know that the Fitz himself is investigating Rezko. I think the trial is at the end of February.

Here's a little more history you won't find at HuffPost or The Nation: At the time of his senate run, Obama was a relatively small-town player, a former law professor and two-term state legislator who lost a congressional race against African American incumbent bobbie Rush in 2000. Obama's first significant donor in the 1990's was Antoin "Tony" Rezko, a Chicago power broker and developer who tried to recruit him out of law school. After graduating from Harvard, Obama instead hired on with a community nonprofit agency called Project VOTE, where he spent a few months organizing inner city voter registration drives. He later joined the prestigious law firm ____,whose clients included Rezko.
Obama worked on (and later endorsed as a senator) a series of low-income housing development deals in which Rezko and his partner, Woodlawn Preservation and Investment, collected $855,000 in development fees. Later, while Rezko was busy fundraising for Obama's senate race, tenants were having their heat cut off and other maintenance issues left unaddressed. The City of Chicago eventually sued Rezko, and an F.B.I. investigation led to a felony indictment. Rezko is charged with illegally obtaining income through kickbacks and bribes. A trial is set to begin February 25th.

I was (& still am at heart) an Edwardian -- I was not allowed to vote for my preferred candidate.
Some sort of do-over for the voters of Michigan & Florida would make sense to me, but I also accept that the entire process is not & never has been "democratic".
I also think it is foolish to think that enough super delegates will throw the nomination to Senator Clinton if it is clear that the voters really want Senator Obama -- presumably the super delegates want to win in November, too!

IMHO, the Dem state chairs in MI and Fl fucked up, intentionally tried to break a flawed system, and lost. They should be canned. But the voters shouldn't have to pay for the goddam intraparty squabbling. I see no other alternative now than what has been suggested, split them evenly or decalre a mulligan, pony up and have a do-over. There's no way I can see that somehow being less fair than either not including them or pretending everything was fine.

Most of the other Af-Am blogs I read -- admittedly a small sampling of the thousands that are out there -- are extremely pro-Obama, or as Philly blogger Field Negro calls them, Obamaholics (his own wife included).
I love FN's blog -- check out the stuff on the right margin for a laugh or two -- but I sure as hell miss Gilliard, especially at moments like this. RIP, man.

Two different situations. MI's Democratic Party and governor chose to move their primary up. Voters had no choice, but the party sure did.
FL's Dems had basically no choice, as the R's who controlled both houses of the legislature wanted to move up the primary, wanted to create problems for the Dems and wanted a tax referendum passed.
FL's Democratic voters, and the party, had no say in determining the date--but the voters turned out in record numbers to vote among all the candidates. I think I saw 40% or registered Dems voted in the primary. Wow!
MI voters were given a frustrating selection--Hillary, Kucinich, or leave it to the party. Couldn't even write in names!
I would say FL gets seated as is and MI can do a caucus or pay for a statewode primary (which they probably can't afford--but maybe Obama can cover. Yeah, that's the ticket.).
I figure if Obama continues to beat Clinton, Bill will call in a favor from H.W. Bush to have a spook off him.

It's also clear that if Hillary should win the thing, she'd be crazy not to beg Obama to take the second slot.
If (as I now think) Obama gets the nod, I hope Hillary will have the class to work like a demon to get him elected. I don't know if Obama would offer her the VP position, and to be honest I don't think she'd take it.
