Our precinct went 5-2 for Obama. Others went even heavier his way. I have to say, though, and I don't mean to be derogatory towards the folks caucusing for Obama, that they were a little bit Borg. They insisted on trying to assimilate the HRC folks, even when they had most of the delegates already.

some cool comments:
According to the fishwrapper, Democratic caucus participation was up 75% from 2004. The Republicans? They’re still trying to reach their “high water mark” set in 1980. ...
Even in heavily Republican Lewis County, the Republican caucuses at W.F. West High School in Chehalis drew only about 15 people, compared to more than 160 at a Democratic caucus elsewhere in the school.
“The only choice is McCain,” Maria Easley, a 40-year-old financial analyst from Chehalis, who was first to arrive with her 12-year-old-son Clay in tow. Like many Republicans, Easley isn’t enthusiastic about McCain, a maverick known for bucking his own party. “McCain is a bit wishy-washy. I’m not sure where he stands from day-to-day. But I don’t think that Huckabee can go the distance.”

Actually, the 'history' of the Elves is quite fascinating.
But basically Galadriel is offered the ring of power, and refuses, knowing it will corrupt her even though she would attempt to use it for good. And so she and most of the rest of the elves will leave Middle Earth forever.
The presidency isn't really The One Ring.

File this under "Where da white women at"--from that front page NYTimes story Saturday: Mr. Kakugawa remembered that the two often discussed wealth and class and that their disaffection would surface. He said race would come up in the conversations, usually when talking about white girls they thought about dating.
“We were dealing with acceptance and adaptation, and both had to do with the fact that we were not part of the moneyed elite,” Mr. Kakugawa said.

(Ahem!)
The images in the Basra police file are nauseating: Page after page of women killed in brutal fashion -- some strangled to death, their faces disfigured; others beheaded. All bear signs of torture.
The women are killed, police say, because they failed to wear a headscarf or because they ignored other "rules" that secretive fundamentalist groups want to enforce.
"Fear, fear is always there," says 30-year-old Safana, an artist and university professor. "We don't know who to be afraid of. Maybe it's a friend or a student you teach. There is no break, no security. I don't know who to be afraid of."

Maybe. What's missing from the 'thug playbook if McCain is the nominee is a reliable, enthusiastic base of rightwing fundtards who will beat the bushes, pound the pavement, and drag people to the polls with them.
They hate him and the neocons hate him. They *might* vote for him, if it came down to him or the eeeeeevil Cintoris. But they won't have the unified, lockstep drive to do it, and that can definitely cost the 'thugs a national election.
And there's a lot of marketing going to happen between now and November, and that shit is very effective.
So I don't think that polling is very predictive.

Let's say Gomez is right. Obama never took drugs but wrote in his book that he said he did to "look cool". Can you imagine what the Repubs will do with that? It will make "flip-flopper" look like a compliment. If he never did them, why not say so? His friends are backing his story? In today's political atmosphere that's no defense. Kerry's friends on the boat swore to his bravery. The man whose life he saved swore to it as well. Night Line visited the village where the battle took place and the Vietnamese living there confirmed Kerry's story. Didn't help him. Obama better come up with sworn, unimpeachable testimony or the Repubs will have a field day.

If it requires advertisements with the Senator who says McCain "Scares" him because of his temper and his idiot temper. Do it.

The "maverick" bullshit that makes us sprain muscles rolling our eyes has meaning to those people. Those are the folks who react emotionally (and favorably) to all the rhetoric about being steadfast and rigid and inflexible and generally a dick. Doing whatever is in the best interest of the Partei and fuck the constitution, all that stuff.
McCain doesn't think we should torture people (but wait five minutes) and thinks there should be a path to citizenship or some kind of accommodation for certain undocumented immigrants -- really, to those folks he might as well be calling for mandatory abortions at government operated walk-in clinics that burn flags for fuel.
They hate him.

Do you all see the entire problem with this?
Nothing about the persons positions, policies, views. Nothing about what this person would do to make this country better.
This is what the entire debate has slid to. Insignificant shit that has nothing to do with how the person would do the job.
Perhaps if you all would stop concerning yourself with what Tweety, Russert, the rest of the douche press had to say, and focused on what this person or that person's actual positions are, then it would be a better race.

Did you read the NYT article? The people they interviewed said he toked up, but only in a social setting, and that they never noticed an issue. The article also points out that Obama devoted a page and a half out of 500 or so in his book to his use of pot and blow. Seems like everyone agrees he did what damned near everybody did in 1978 with regard to marijuana. And he didn't write about it to look cool, he wrote about it to be honest. Jeez.

You're right that the power-base of the neocons will support him, because he's all they'll have. But I think people have had it up to here with the 'thugs, and are ready for something different. The neocons became close to McCain in the 1990s, when they supported American intervention in the Balkans. According to the New Republic's John Judis, the first sign of neocon influence on McCain came in 1999. McCain delivered a speech at Kansas State University in which he touted "national greatness conservatism," arguing: "The United States is the indispensable nation because we have proven to be the greatest force for good in human history." He went on to state that the U.S. should have "every intention of continuing to use our primacy in world affairs for humanity's benefit."
"I'm not saying" --You know what? Wait a minute. We'll get to what's appallingly wrong with that quote in a minute. First we evidently need to spell out to you that you are self-parodic and your poorly thought out support for Hillary is counterproductive. Now then, "I'm not saying Hillary has never said anything like that." Actually she hasn't and nobody said she did. Our point was that these wierdos hate Hillary by instinct, not because of anything she's said or done, and it's absolutely untenable to argue that Hillary ought to be preferable to anyone because of relative freedom from spurious GOP slur campaigns.

Hell, I'll defend Obama if he's the nominee. I never said Hillary was preferable. I'm just saying Obama needs to be prepared for the GOP and MSM attacks. If Kerry's past could be "swift boated" I believe Obama's will be too. I live in the state that defeated Max Cleland thanks to "Osama is Cleland "ads. I never thought that would work. But it did.
