Ford's quality has come a long way since the Tauruses you speak of. If you look at JD power, for example, you see that many Ford models are built at similar or better quality levels to Toyota. Yes, the Taurus was not the most reliable car in the world--but Consumer Reports thought the outgoing model was good enough to get its coveted recommendation.

The new Ford vehicles such as Fusion and 500 have much better quality.
