And you're right about government charity. In 1988 the Washington Post had an editorial about the charity giving of the 3 presidential candidates. Bush had given 5.3; Dukakis 3.5 and Jackson something like 1.5. I mentioned this to a friend who observed that Democrats believe that it is society that should be providing for the poor so this wasn't hypocritical, but they were true to their beliefs.

And of course, there's a new book out that shows that conservatives are more generous than liberal. Even when it comes to donating blood!

I pay the government every year to make the tuna noodle casseroles for the homeless so that I don't have to.

That said, if I wanted to make a tuna noodle casserole and give it to the homeless, I should be able to. This really borders on the absurd. Is there a rash of food poisoning at the homeless shelters or something?
