Gravatar Had this been the only incident, it would be less funny/outrageous. But Marshall at TPM has the goods on why liberals are peeved. CNN is getting pelted for Jeff Greenfield's more outrageous comments on ABC, suggesting that Obama is comparable to Ahmedinejad because both are lean, dark-skinned men who sometimes do not wear ties with their jackets (never mind that half the Israeli Knesset have used or use that style, and President Bush as well.)

Ditto the Hussein business. It is a very common male Arabic name meaning "handsome", a name derived from his father's family in Kenya, where Arabic words and culture have had influence through trade ties. It should no more be held against Obama than the name Joseph should be held Joe Lieberman because the silver medal-winning butcher (some argue gold, by crude body count) of the 20th Century was named Joseph. CNN is paying for that hassle, though they did not start it.

That said, well done on a great Schadenfreudic snark.

Gravatar Bruce, OK, the left is upset because this wasn't the only thing CNN has done. So what's your explanation?

Is it deliberate, and if so, to what end?

I think if it's all deliberate, my explanation is the most likely. When CNN starts dumping on Hillary, I'll look at the matter again.

Gravatar Ain't saying you're wrong, would not surprise me if you are right. Cui bono makes sense to me. Just describing the mood in liberal-ville.

Frankly, both of these characters irritate me, viscerally. I prefer my candidates a little less plastic, a little less triangulating and less obviously cast from Politican Central Casting. They are an example of self-government only if mannequins are included in universal suffrage.
