HI-- I just wanted to let you know that I follow your blog carefully and appreciate your activism to dispel the incredible amount of blind misinformation that moves around the Internet about homebirth.

You may appreciate the last 2 blogs I posted on my blog. I am author of a book, The Joy of Pregnancy, which is a solid and sensible guide to pregnancy and birth.

Warmly, Tori Kropp, RN

Wow, the haters really followed you, didn't they? I disagree with you most of the time, but I think I can refrain from that kind of namecalling.

Where is Dr. Amy? There are all kinds of studies, news articles and other items to debunk here and she is MIA!???!?!?!

Gravatar From JJ:

She's given up the homebirth question for the time being. I got the impression she got tired of it. I wish she'd give her two cents on the study referenced in this article:

Sometime ago, on this blog, someone posted a well-written argument/resource addressing the late-term abortion question. At the time I meant to bookmark it, but of course I did not. Is there anybody out there who might have this archived or otherwise has a recollection of such an article?

Thanks in advance.

Not sure if this is the one you mean, but it impressed me:

There is also a well known and vociferous American woman who had to choose between late abortion and certain death, but I have forgotten her name.
Ghastly subject, ghastly choice.

Women can birth naturally if our culture begins to change our mindset. Nearly painlessly if they prepare. Please read the Scientification of Love to learn more about how medications and interventions are taking their toll on mothers and babies.

I found this blog while looking for something else. Do I ever have an opinion!

Ladies (and gentlemen), we need to listen to each other. We are basing too many of our decisions on statistics and averages. My doctor was fond of telling me, "Every pregnancy is different," then proceding in each instance with the textbook protocol. So are our governments and insurance companies.

We're looking for healthy babies born to healthy mothers, aren't we? Tragically, we will make mistakes, but we'll make a lot fewer if we listen.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Why does Dr. Amy brag that Divine Caroline nominated her for a "Love This Site" award when there are no search results for the Homebirth Debate on Divine Caroline's site? Just another small bit of evidence that Dr. Amy perpetuates mistruth.

Dr. Amy,

Have you read "Born in the USA" by Dr. Marsden Wagner? If so, what is your response to his assertions that the maternity care system in America is contributing to the high rate of maternal and neonatal mortality compared with other developed nations that routinely use Midwives and out of hospital facilities for all low risk pregnancies? You may have discussed his book in previous posts, if so please direct me to the archives, as I am curious about your position on his findings.

I also see that you are in the habit of dissecting studies. Have you done that with the studies he referenced?

Sara
