Ace - I chickened out from hiring a Velib last time I was in Paris. I meant to, but I had enough time on my hands to walk where I wanted to go - and it seemed so much easier, somehow, than working my way through the instructions.

I'm sure you meant to say "wait until the light turns green" -- when the light turns red there is a major problem.
or perhaps yellow? Or maybe I didn't stay long enough to double-check on the docking station: but it was all OK on the main terminal thing. The main thing is to make sure it's done something to acknowledge you!
Definitely: from green to yellow when the machine clicks home, then green again when it's worked it out. And it can take quite a while to print receipts - twice I've already started to phone before the ticket's arrived.
