Re: Soto, etc--
Here is what I keep hoping that someone else will organize (hey, at least I'm honest)--a last ditch nationwide protest march on DC and other major cities in the US and worldwide, focussed on the demand that this administration be held responsible (no Mumia, please). I'd think the disgust and shame that Bush has inspired is widespread enough that a well-organized late summer event would be fairly easy to get the millions out to. Obama has started to make predictable noises about comity and healing, but as Hartmann is fond of saying, if you make the parade large enough, politicians will vie to get in front. (There is, of course, the possibility that Obama will call marchers an "opinion group" like Bush did, but we won't know unless we try.)
To put it simply, we have to shame these fuckers into doing the right thing.

Obama has already been blamed for not correcting several hundred years of black/white race relations in the USA because he's had a month -- as a candidate -- to do so. That's a much bigger and more difficult problem than the Iraq war. They'll be screaming at him for not fixing Iraq with a week of his inaugaration.

You've no doubt heard about Novak's hit and run, but Attaturk just put up a fuller account than the others I've seen, in which it's revealed that the person he hit rolled off the windshield.
Rolled. Off. The. FUCKING. WINDSHIELD.
As I said at Attaturk's, I've loathed this bastard for years and will delight in his downfall. Unfortunately, so will much of the Village.

Darned shame Ron Paul is a bigot and creepy christian, 'cause he's starting to look the the lessor of three evils.

I didn't see him "splayed on the windshield"!! Too fucking much.
I approve of this news.

What's truly amazing about the Novak story is that he was charged with failing to yield right of way, not with hit-and-run.
Why do I imagine that if I had done the same, they would have thrown the book at me?
Thanks for the link, Avedon. MacroMan is a very savvy financial guy, so if he says that we have run up enough governmental debt to equal the value of the whole country minus the 13 colonies, you can take it to the bank... so to speak. And nearly half of the federal portion of that debt has been incurred by Little Nero.

Oh, and Avedon... just so as you know you aren't beating your gums on empty air: I will be sending contributions to both Siegelman and to Shulman thanks to you bringing them to my attention.

I'm really tempted to turn the Novak thing into a metaphor for accountability. Novak hit the guy, but thought he could just drive away, unaccountable. If he got caught, he'd just lie. Just like all of the rest of that fucking town. (And just wait for the stories about some prescription drug he was taking that had "unexpected side effects".)

Anna - thanks for the link. I assumed "hit and run" was just a political metaphor. Dear God - you meant it literally.

And Avedon, your FISA thoughts line up nicely with the post I'm putting together for tomorrow. (Great minds think alike, but so do one track minds. Hmmm....)

As a result, he'll only get my vote and nothing more.

Obama's getting my vote and nothing more because I'm in enough debt as it is. So there.

Re: A Modest Proposal: How very...reminiscent of an aristocrat facing debtors' prison. Keep the manor and the entailed property, dump the rest. Historic tours and renting to film companies would suffice for income, don'cha'no. [/sarcasm]
Only one of my Senators would get that postcard from me, and I don't think of her as my Senator, anyhow.
By the way, I just noticed that you're guest-blogging at Air America. Great!
