Gravatar RF,

I am not sure what "script" you are referring to since McCain has never called for or advocated a "100 year war."

Gravatar It's funny. I liked John McCain circa 1996 when he was walking around the halls of Congress growling at senators to "get back to work".

I saw him doing that on 60 minutes once and fell in love with this odd white-haired man on my television.

But I don't hear the "get back to work" sentiments anymore. I hear a polished, made for TV McCain who is sticking to the script and staying on message with his "100 years war" commentary.

That sort of message discipline seems to be the perfect foil for the media darling Obama. And dead on for a military hero like McCain.

But sadly it's not.

McCain the maverick has morphed into McCain the cowboy, a man given to sweeping, ideological statements, who is eager to lasso the Republican base by staying on the message that they want to hear despite a weak American dollar/country.

The last thing independent voters want to hear, be them red or blue, is the message disciplined, pre-polled one liner.

McCain needs to "get back to work" at becoming the old McCain. No one liner can beat that. Not in a 100 years...
