Gravatar Are you ready for... Suicide Tourism?

Tijuana has long attracted people seeking medicine and medical procedures unavailable or unaffordable in their home countries. They've been joined recently by people seeking the means to kill themselves. And some of them are coming from 8000 miles away. It’s being called suicide tourism, and Tijuana is one of its hottest destinations, so hot that one of the men who put Tijuana on the suicide tourism map now says he’s directing people to Mexican border towns to the east.

"Everyone Power!"

Gravatar lucious, on your salvation of Western Culture undertaking; something very important came to my mind the other day, and this sounds like grant material. All of history's past great cultures had a permanent record that archeologists could study to perpetuate their legacy. The West does not. All of our media are either elctronic, requiring devices to manipulate the data, or perishable. When we're gone, at present, there will be no record of whether or not we existed and what we were like. Anybody working on that? If not and you get a grant prposal together, just name it the Paxnhymn project or something...my legacy....

Gravatar It might be hard to get at our electronic media---maybe not so hard, if our descendants---assuming we have any---can figure out which plug goes into which outlet, and they have an energy supply they can tap into.

If they don't have an energy supply, survival will have to trump all, and they won't be that interested in digging up our civilization.

Out cities and big civic buildings will probably last for good a while. Whenever I drive past the L.A. Airport, I like imagining what the strange buildings and Bart stations around there would like, hundreds of years from now.

Gravatar USA SCORES....whoooo hooooo

Gravatar Uhhh Andrew Bostom links to the prologue to the now not publishable book titled:

The Jewel of Yathrib (you may know it as The Jewel of Median)

Romanticized Pedophilia and Polygamy

Having just read the Prologue (available here, not without irony, at a website whose name ends with “..Trashy Books”) to Sherry Jones “The Jewel of Medina,” one hopes (against hope) that perhaps the whole “fatwa” imbroglio has been manufactured by Random House to jettison this idiotic “novel.”

There are so many layers of irony and tragedy to this story, epitomized most of all by the feckless Ms. Jones who not only romanticizes pedophilia (as observed aptly by Diana West), and polygamy, but seems utterly unaware that she is doing so having adopted in her own warped fashion—albeit, not “deferentially” enough—an apologetic narrative for Islam’s foundational (and living) debasement of women. Thus her “narrative” dramatization has Ali (who became the fourth “Rightly Guided Caliph, revered by Shi’a) utter to a “nervous and faint” Muhammad, “Wives are easily acquired. You will find another child-bride.”

...

Gravatar Good morning!

from your link:
"Iraq to send our $$$ to Putin's Russia"

From that I say, what did we expect?

Iraq is no closer to not screwing us over now then they were before as far as I am concerned.

Yesterday I read another good friend of the U.S and ally in the war on terror (Jordan) is cuddling up to Hamas.

I just don't for the life of me understand how any of them can be trusted to do what is right.

.........and again when I see the U.S has decided to not sell Israel their much needed planes simply because holding hands with the Arab street means more than one live Israeli I just become sick to my stomach. WAR ON TERROR, bullshit. Where is it? U.S has reverted back to Islamic ass kissers and at a very high and serious cost I might add.

I could just spit.

I have decided this screw over by the U.S would not have been so bad had it been any other president doing it. Bush has been nothing but a wolf in sheep's clothing. If I hear one more person tell me the U.S is the best friend of Israel I think I will explode. BTW: I have scoured the conservative websites and blogs and have found NOTHING concerning the latest knife driven by the U.S in the back of Israel. Had this have been done by a democrat they would have been all over it.

What a learning experience this has been. So easy to elevate ones self as being a friend to Israel when in fact the majority of these friends have shown their true colors. Of course I have said this from the get go and now I know I was absolutely correct. In the case of many phony conservative friends (who gave the illusion of being friends) it is not what one says but what one does not say.

As for Bush, his open love for Israel has been exposed as a fraud and a lie. Nice legacy you leave George.

Gravatar Carolyn-
"By “white person” Lander actually means the young, urban, elite white person. I am the “wrong kind of white person” — the kind that listens to heavy metal, goes hunting, and occasionally finds Larry the Cable Guy amusing (git-r-done!). "

That's the joke.

Gravatar white people have one great weakness: organic food.

As seen by the image on the left - when faced with eating food that has been processed and loaded with nitrates, sodium and saturated fat, or organic rat poison, 10/10 they will take the rat poison.

Just like with farmers markets, white people believe that organic food is grown by farmers who wear overalls, drive tractors, and don’t use pesticide. In spite of the fact that most organic food is made by major agribusiness, and they just use it as an excuse to jack up prices, white people will always lose their mind for organic anything. Never mind the fact that if the world were to switch to 100% organic food tomorow, half the earth would die of starvation.

But white people don’t care, just so long as they aren’t eating pesticides they are pretty sure they can live forever.

It’s almost guaranteed that if some Columbian drug lord can start offering “organic” cocaine, he’ll be the richest guy ever.

Gravatar Selpaw, a lot of us supported Bush because we thought, no matter his faults, he'd be better than Kerry. As you say, Bush is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

This is one of the things that makes me unenthusiastic about supporting Republicans. Basically, they're not conservative, they're Democrat-lite; and while the left isn't on America's side, it's not clear that the Repubs are, either. (Remember Bush's little dance with the Saudis, and Republican support of bringing in illegal alines?) They're too beholden to oil interests in the area, and too committed to "maintaniing stability"---which usually means kissing up to dictators.

A pox upon them all!

Gravatar EIM,

Always wondered what the definition of "Organic" is. I have a veggie and fruit (tomato) garden. When I give stuff away, can I tell folks you'd pay dearly for this "Organic" stuff?

BTW, if it tastes good, it's got to be good for you, right?

Real men eat real food, no stinkin TOFU.

Gravatar yeah I always thought that was dumb, especially because all the word "organic" means technically is that something contains carbon...
if that's the case why do moonbats hate coal so much?

Gravatar Kamel,
the Repulicans are now the old Dems and the Dems are actually EuroDems...

a lot has changed...

Gravatar I, myself, like shopping at Farmer's Markets...

I would say that the food is more expensive, but IT TASTES BETTER than your run of the mill store bought stuff...

I would say the reason for that is that it is MORE RIPE & FRESHER than the foods we purchase in such places as WHOLE FOODS, etc...

Gravatar I find it impossible to get to the "Jewel of Medina" prologue, from Bostrom's site; the link just sits there, and spins its wheels.

I suspect somebody's hacking it.

The sweet potatoes are taking over!

Gravatar Paxnhymn, not enough has changed.

My father, a life-long Democrat, was far more conservative in his outlook on life than either today's Dems or Repubs are.

Neither party is especially liberal, or especially conservative. The Dems are now Marxists (let's be honest---that's what they are) and the Republicans are Marxist-lite-wimps. They both want power, and they're both in bed with the Saudi oil-ticks, our treasonous State Department and various other unpleasant entities. Neither party has the good of America as its highest priority.

A pox upon them all.

AI, I find that Farmers Market stuff tasts better too. I also shop at a small produce store near where I live. Marxist/progressive thinking has had a profound impact on our society; even many conservative, or middle-of-the-road people don't realize just how pervasive its outlook is, in our world.

Gravatar American Infidel, yes, me too--I'll go out of my way to buy Made in USA, even it's more expensive. Right now, I'm trying to never again buy anything "made in china." I'm trying to buy USA, or at least stuff made by allies, such as India, Japan or Italy.

Gravatar The American Thinker has commentary on the:

OBAMA, AYERS, ANNENBERG COVER UP

http://www.americanthinker.com/ 2...g_years_co.html

Lifson mentions a blogger sifting through publicly available data & still finding a lot of dirt...

...A blogger, Steve Diamond, has put together enough data from public sources to seriously embarrass Obama over the closeness of his association with Ayers in the project, and to describe the wrong-headed and politicized approach taken by the project. Anyone can go to this page and look at the latter half of the very lengthy post to see the data uncovered by this intrepid researcher. At a minimum, it proves that Obama has seriously misled the public about his association with Ayers. And it documents and analyzes some of the complex left wing politics underlying the effort.

As the public begins to notice this outlines of the history of the CAC presented by Diamond, more questions are bound to be asked.

The First Cover-up

Diamond examined public documents, receiving cooperation from the Brown University Library, where the Annenberg Challenge Program national headuarters had been housed. Until, that is, Diamond's requests for further information fell on deaf ears following publication of a post highlighting a grant to one of Ayers' former revolutionary cohorts in the Weathermen. He writes:

"...while the representative from the university I originally corresponded with had been quite friendly and accommodating prior to my June 23 post, afterwards my additional requests for further information went unanswered. I did not pursue it at the time because I felt I had told a significant part of the story already. Thanks to the diligent work of Dr. Kurtz, however, we now know there is much more to know."

So the appearance of a cover-up actually began in June.

Gravatar Report: 1,200 flee as quake hits southern China

BEIJING (AP) — A report says about 1,200 people have evacuated their homes after a 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit southern China near its border with Myanmar.

The state-run Xinhua News Agency says no deaths were reported in Wednesday morning's quake, but many homes collapsed.

A report on the U.S. Geological Survey's Web site says the quake's epicenter was about 140 miles west of the popular tourism city of Dali in China's Yunnan province.

The chief of publicity with Yingjiang County's Communist Party committee told Xinhua that many homes in the epicenter of Sudian Township collapsed.

BEIJING, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale jolted Yingjiang County, Dehong Dai-Jinpo Autonomous Prefecture, in southwest China's Yunnan Province, at 8:24 p.m. on Thursday.

The epicenter was about 10 km underground, 45 km away from the county town, and 500 km away from the provincial capital Kunming, according to a National Earthquake Network press release.

The affected area has a population density of 45 persons per square km and is at an average altitude of 2,000 meters.

It was the second earthquake to occur in Yingjiang in the last two days. A 5.0-magnitude quake jolted the county on Wednesday morning.

If so there are so many fresh markets. I would die to have it. My fun in Chicago is to swarm over all that great fresh shopping.

Gravatar Here at the gates of hell (Texas), there are two seasons...hot and damn hot.
Winter lasts about two weeks, summer and AC bills are 10 months.
When I was a child we had real seasons.
When the occasional cold hits, it hits hard, there is nothing between us and the North pole but a barbed wire fence.

I would also pay extra for things that said MADE IN AMERICA versus China...

Like going on a scavenger hunt for anything made in America.........

I hate it hate it hate it, that I have to spend my hard earned money on things that say MADE IN CHINA (the crap falls apart & the clothes, the clothes are made for midgets)...

I have to buy a size 9 NewBalance shoe, versus my MADE IN ITALY VASQUE boots that I purchased well over 5 yrs ago, that are a size 8...

I am sick to death of their BS...

Gravatar This is crucial since Turkey eventually will ally itself with Iran and central Asia for a last dash against Israel. Gravatar my4princesses

How cool is that to see a bed of asparagus come spring time!! All those asparagus poking out in little rows like soldiers standing at attention.

I love it!

Gravatar M4P

I agree.

I like noticing the season’s change.

Except Im not looking forward to hot dry winds.

Gravatar Selpaw, that sounds pretty darned good!

Carolyn, I've got a list of places that sell American (or an acceptable ally), and, if I get a chance later today, I'll post it. These are all Internet shopping sites (I confess, it's almost impossible in ordinary retail stores).

My biggest problems are finding electronics not made in China, and kids toys. I know Fat Brain Toys lists where their toys are made, and they carry some things made in the USA. And Legos, as I recall, is still based in Denmark.

When buying cloth items, such as rugs, mats, towels, cotton tops, skirts and pants, etc., check the label; a lot of these seem to be made in India these days.

I know Fat Brain Toys

Gravatar The FARMER'S ALMANAC predicts a COLD WINTER:

Farmers' Almanac, which predicts below-average temperatures for most of the U.S.

"Numb's the word," says the 192-year-old publication, which claims an accuracy rate of 80 to 85 percent for its forecasts that are prepared two years in advance.

The almanac's 2009 edition, which goes on sale Tuesday, says at least two-thirds of the country can expect colder than average temperatures, with only the Far West and Southeast in line for near-normal readings.

"This is going to be catastrophic for millions of people," said almanac editor Peter Geiger, noting that the frigid forecast combined with high prices for heating fuel is sure to compound problems households will face in keeping warm. ...

Amen!

Tell you what, the shlock from China is everywhere and in everything from food to medications to what we wear. Crap, we even import toothpaste from China. The bad part is that there are now so many hidden ingredients of what we think is ok that comes from China that we are not even aware of. This move will be the death of us.

When I go to the grocery store I feel like a damn private detective having to read every label. It now takes me twice as long. Again, it might say made in U.S but not all of it!!!!

Well they say you make your bed and sleep in it and we are sure doing just that.

Gravatar I'll finish this off;

I know Fat Brain Toys sells a good number of toys made in the USA (they list country of origin on their websites. These are mostly "boy-toys." It's a pain in the (*(&&^^ shopping for little girl toys not made in China.) For kids, crayons, crayola, drawing pads, etc. are still made in USA.

Even in the crappy grocery stores, if you check, you can find produce labeled "Made in USA." And, if you do have a Farmers Market, shop there.

Yes, it's a shame many people know only the grocery store crap. One of the reasons I don't like shopping at the local grocery stores (there are a lot), is that if I buy anything other then, say, a bunch of carrots, a (disgusting) bag of salad or some frozen peas, the check-out clerk gives it a nasty look and asks, "What's THAT?" "How on earth do you cook it!" Either that, or they hold it up and giggle hysterically, "What IS it?"

Gravatar Selpaw,

Gravatar A joke for math geeks, courtesy of Psaturn

A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International Airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a set square, a slide rule, and a calculator. At a morning press conference, the Attorney General said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction.

"Al-gebra is a problem for us," the Attorney General said. "They desire solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in a search of absolute value. They use secret code names like 'x' and 'y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns,' but we have determined they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country. As the Greek philanderer Isosceles used to say, 'There are 3 sides to every triangle.'"

When asked to comment on the arrest, Senator Obama said, "If God had wanted us to have better Weapons of Math Instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes." Democratic leaders told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the Senator.

Gravatar NATO warships entered the Black Sea on Thursday for what the alliance said were long-planned exercises and routine visits to ports in Romania and Bulgaria.

The move was not linked to the tensions over Russia's invasion of Georgia, which lies on the eastern shore of the Black Sea, about 900 kilometers from the Romanian coast, said officials at NATO's military command in southern Belgium.

Three warships - from Spain, Germany and Poland - sailed into the Black Sea on Thursday. They are due to be joined by a US frigate, the USS Taylor, later this week.

However, the move risks increasing tensions with Russia which has deployed ships from its Black Sea fleet to the Georgian coast.

Gravatar Not only is freedom of speech threatened by Muslims, so is freedom of religion
By Vincent Gioia
MichNews.com
Aug 21, 2008

Persecution of Christians and Jews is not new in this world. Although such condemnation for religious beliefs goes back thousands of years, Nazi Germany developed it into an art form with the wholesale murder of Jewish people. Of course, the Nazis didn't limit atrocities to Jews, they spread their horror around but Nazis were mainly interested in eliminating the Jewish population.

In their hatred of Jews, they were not alone; Muslims aided and abetted the Nazis since they shared a belief system that relegated Jews to the category of "dogs and apes", as the Koran teaches Islamic adherents. However, unlike the Nazis, Muslims disdain all religions other than Islam. While Muslims complain bitterly about any perceived insult to Islam and any acts of disrespect for the Koran, it is not only accepted but prescribed by Islam to destroy the Holy Bible and those who worship the word of God as opposed to the Islamic reverence of Allah.

Muslims have succeeded in intimidating much of the world so that by actual and the threatened violence the Western World accepts restrictions on freedom of expression lest Muslims be offended. The prime mover of this pressure on the world is the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC). With the help of endless petrodollars and fear of violating political correctness, the OIC has managed to have their way across the globe; they have also become the largest lobbying body of nations within the United Nations and are urging an anti-Christian and Jewish agenda with full force.

The Organization of the Islamic conference has actually succeeded in attaining passage of UN resolution in the General assemble called "Combating Defamation of Religions." This harmless sounding title is in reality a deceptive name for targeting men and women of faith who speak out in any way against Islam or reveal the atrocities committed in the name of Islam on behalf of Allah. If Muslims had their way, not only would discrimination against Christians and Jews be practiced universally but any proclamation of a faith other than Islam would be punishable by imprisonment or even death. Supreme Court Justice Scalia said in a recent dissent, "America is at war with radical Islamists"; in this he was not only correct, he was issuing a warning to the world that to overlook or ignore the intrusion on civil rights by these enemies of freedom would result in the worst form of tyranny not seen since the Nazi regime.

As the American Center of Law and Justice wrote recently:

"We are seeing worldwide persecution of Christians as part of the radical Muslim mission to "take the world for Islam" - by purging Christianity from the face of the earth.

"In Saudi Arabia, a Muslim father violently cut out his young daughter's tongue and burned her alive upon learning she had become a Christian. In Africa, a leading Gospel singer was seized, stuffed into a cargo box - with a single hole for air - and left for a month to go crazy or die. After two years, she was released, fled her captive country, and was granted political asylum in Denmark. In Iran, a couple was tortured for reading the Bible. Two men in Algeria were tried and convicted for possessing Christian books. And today we face extremely dangerous threats everywhere because of the one posed by the OIC."

Dr. Andrew Bostom, editor of the book The Legacy of Jihad about Islamic anti-Semitism, warns that the 57 Muslim nations of the Organization of the Islamic Conference are trying to impose Islamic blasphemy law -- which includes the death penalty for those who "blaspheme" the Muslim prophet Muhammad -- as the universal standard across the world. These sentiments of the OIC were repeated more brazenly by Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi, the spiritual leader of the Muslim Brotherhood. During a sermon in response to the Danish Muhammad cartoons which were published February 2006, Qaradawi demanded action from the United Nations in accordance with Sharia-based conceptions of blasphemy: "…the governments [of the world] must be pressured to demand that the U.N. adopt a clear resolution or law that categorically prohibits affronts to prophets-to the prophets of the Lord and his Messengers, to His holy books, and to the religious holy places." ...

Gravatar Merit Worm,

This phrase from your link struck me with great force:

The Bible, Levy says "is the first and greatest anti-myth in history--the only foundational narrative in which the godhead is not aligned with temporal power but with the human spirit, not with Pharaoh but with slaves."

Our only real hope is to embrace the "essential Jewish message--that human beings are never instruments but always ends in themselves, that humanity like God is one, that life is unconditionally sacred."

Levy's advice to Jews is to embrace and respect the American Evangelicals who embrace that message and are among "the most philo-semitic people in history."

Gravatar Ice wine...it is called Vin Glaciere...it is a dessert wine and they charge a lot of money for it.

Some of the best vin glaciere comes from the Santa Cruz Mountains: Bonnie Doon Vineyards.

We were coming back from a Christian retreat in the Santa Cruz mountains in my Berkeley days and the vehicle we were riding on broke down in front of the Bonnie Doon Vineyard. Seeing that it would be a while, I visited the vineyard and the tasting room...Remembering that my brother's favorite wine was Bonnie Doon Vi Glaciere and seeing that I liked their wine I bought several bottles.

Wine Spectator gave high marks to Bonnie Doon Vineyard Vin Glaciere.

It is slightly syrupy, sweet wine.

.......and the strange thing is all one has to do is look into the Fatah charter and see it mimics exactly what Haniyeh says. Having said that, the West counts on ignorance of such things and for that, they hit pay dirt.

Gravatar Rush is playing audio tapes of B. HUSSEIN O., THE INFANTICIDE CANDIDATE argument against THE INFANT PROTECTION ACT (I hope I have the name right)...

Gravatar BORN ALIVE, INFANT PROTECTION ACT

Gravatar Now, he is playing the ABOVE MY PAY GRADE response...

Gravatar Eric Erickson is all over this issue:

...

In 2002, Senator Obama stood on the floor of the Illinois State Senate to oppose the Born Alive Infant Protection Act. By this time, even the abortion rights organizations like Planned Parenthood had dropped their opposition. But Obama continued to oppose the law.

He was the only person to speak out against the legislation.

In an exchange with Senator O'Malley, the legislation's sponsor, Obama's concern was about second guessing the abortionist.

Here is what he said:

As I understand it, this puts the burden on the attending physician who has determined, since they were performing this procedure, that, in fact, this is a nonviable fetus; that if that fetus, or child - however way you want to describe it - is now outside the mother's womb and the doctor continues to think that it's nonviable but there's, let's say, movement or some indication that, in fact, they're not just coming out limp and dead, that, in fact, they would then have to call a second physician to monitor and check off and make sure that this is not a live child that could be saved.

SHORTER BARACK OBAMA: Let's trust the guy who just botched the abortion to determine whether or not he actually did botch the abortion.

That's it. If a baby comes out and is alive, Barack Obama thought it too damned burdensome to have another doctor, someone used to dealing with live babies, check to see if the baby was viable.
