Gravatar I don't think I would have chosen the shrines, but night tramping is SO MUCH fun. And tonight is full moon... if the weather would only cooperate that would make it the best time of all to go tramping.

John and I had sort of let our night walks go for the winter, but you've inspired me!

Gravatar You'll have to let me know where the best spots are. I find the most difficult thing is the parking. With huge snow banks either side of all the roads it's difficult to park up, strap on and walk off.

Gravatar That sounds very ABUNAI Luke! Ki o tsuketene!

Gravatar Abunai, tabenai, Luke! (Just kidding, Steph ) I know what you mean about the dark being scary--even though it's hard to admit in the daylight. My heart bounces around pretty severely everytime a kamoshika starts thrashing around in the night brush.

Gravatar Kamoshika? Does that mean "duck"?

Gravatar Any little rustle gives me the shivers. In fact, walking up the trail last night I kept convincing myself that dark objects in the distance were bears that had woken up early looking for meat. Of course, they were only fallen branches. I went back up today in the twilight, further up this time, and I wasn't scared at all. The guy who bumped into me collecting mountain water certainly was though. He looked like he'd seen a gaijin

Gravatar With foreign criminals over-running Japan, bumping into a gaijin in the forests of the night is bound give ANY ojisan a heart attack! And Jamie, although even a duck could probably give me the freeze and shiver effect at night, I meant the deer known as the "living fossils."
