Gravatar Luke, thanks for showing my dad around school yesterday. I knew you two would get along! You're right, me and him aren't alike, so I won't be joining you in your fasting! Maybe mountain climbing? But I understand what he's talking about.. maybe you do too. Good luck

Gravatar Wow. Am following your endeavor with interest!

Gravatar I'll keep you posted so long as I can find the energy to write posts. I've been taking a short rest in the tatami room at lunch, instead of the bento I usually eat. Hopefully tomorrow will be the last day of suffering while my stomach continues to shrink; that's the most painful thing. That and sitting here in the office while everbody else eats their lunch!!

Gravatar Ganbatte Luke! My parents fast before Easter and I haven't done it longer than one day yet, but plan to in the future. It sounds tough, so try to focus on listening to your body, then let us know what it tells you!

Gravatar すごいね。でも あんまり無理しないで下さい^o^

Gravatar According to all the things I've read and heard, up until day three is the worse. After that you lose most of your interest in food until day 8-10, when apparently one might experience 'deap-seated' hunger. I'm going out for dinner on Friday night though, which should make my fast a total of five days. Anybody up for a feast friday night??

Gravatar もちろん行きます^o^

Gravatar Hi Luke - how are you feeling, weak I would imagine, I have read that fasting is really good to do now and then, but 5 days seems a bit extreme to start with, but I know that when you make up your mind to do something you can do it, you may find you will get crampy feelings when you start to eat again, choose carefully what you first put into your stomach, good luck and we'll speak on Sunday morning through skype about 9 our time, love mum x

Gravatar Great stuff. I do this in my own little way. I'm a big chocolate fan, so to test myself and ward of belly expansion, I don't eat chocolate on weekdays. In the mountains at the weekend, it's back on the Snickers.

The first thing you should do on Friday night is down a beer! You'd be hammered.

Gravatar Luke, Your mountain climbing and fasting reminds me of the 'Marathon Monks' of the Tendai Buddhist sect in Japan:

http://www.runpunxsyrun.org/ mara...athonmonks.html

They run for 1000 days and then do a seven or nine day fast without food OR water.

Something to aspire to!

Joss

Gravatar Wow, interesting article. Talk about EXTREME! These monks should be doing Mountain Dew commercials!

Gravatar Marathon monks, heh? That really does give me some inspiration. I'm still up for a feast on Friday night though, and you're right there Tom, that first beer's gonna be a blinder!

Gravatar Mum, you're right, five days is a bit extreme, but I think I can manage it. It's day three now and I feel a little bit weak, but I don't feel bad at all. I still feel a bit hungry though. Apparently it's supposed to pick up from hereon after and the hunger is supposed to slide.

Gravatar When are you going to climb on Saturday or Sunday??

Gravatar I don't get it, Luke. If you really want to gain conrol over your body, why not simply persevere in a life of moderation?

Gravatar It's not just that, Laurie. I also want to cleanse my body, and I want to test myself mentally. I've read a lot of stuff on the internet about fasting and the benefits are manifold. I feel great, and don't worry about what I said regards feasting and getting hammered; that was written on a verse of humour. I'll take it easy on friday.
