"Unable to find reinforcements to come to their rescue, the surrounded soldiers planned an ingenious nighttime escape. They radioed the support aircraft above them to beam an infrared light invisible to the naked eye on a path back to their patrol base."
Wow. I recently read an article about what it takes from an intellectual perspective to make it as a Navy SEAL.
On top of the physical demands it's just as important to have the ability to think your way out of a bad situation.
I'm assuming the same applies to the Green Berets.

As a citizen, I'm humbled once again. As an engineering geek, I had to cheer - how COOL is that?
Just goes to show that anyone who thinks that a majority of the folks that join the military have no other good career options is too stupid to be in the military.

Isn't it possible, at some later date, for the Distinguished Service Cross to be upraded to the Medal of Honor?

Congratulations to Master Seargent O'Connor for his award. I am humbled by the bravery of our excellent soldiers, I only wish you could all come home safely.
My heart goes out to the men who have lost their lives or been wounded and their families in Afghanistan and Iraq. But I believe that what you are all doing is extremely important for the future of the free world. Islamofascism must be destroyed.
God bless you all and watch over you.

I was there, and will be writing about it at my blog later this evening. It was quite an event to witness.
