Gravatar great post! i've been a massive Woody Allen fan for as long as I can remember and a college lecturer introduced me to the stand-up tapes after we'd traded lines from "Annie Hall" (sad!).

"...and I realised... I was looking into a mirror" is a killer!

Gravatar Yes, I thought about posting that one! I also wish I could've posted the one about his immature wife coming in while he's in the bath and sinking his boats.

Glad you liked the post.

Gravatar These recordings were all on a big double album called "The Standup Years" (or The Nightclub Years)

I wasn't aware that any of the material was from as late as 1968...maybe this1968 stuff was added to your CD compilation

With that said, Woody's stand-up material is near flawless and proves what a very funny guy he was (or is)

thanks for your post...

PS - Who bothers to go see Woody Allen movies anymore? (I don't)

Gravatar Thanks for visiting benbenek.

Yeah, it says '68 on the packaging.

As for his movies, I'd say he's still better than many, especially in the field of romantic comedies.

Gravatar Yea, all comics should listen to him to learn how to tell a joke, how to manipulate words to tell a story - then bam. Yes, unfortunately he should have retired but then people would just want him to come back but when you see his early stuff, you can see he inspird a lot of others including the Zucker Bros with BANANAS and probably even Rob Reiner's mockumentary style (see TAKE THE MONEY & RUN) and Mystery Theater 3000 and his earlier WHAT'S UP TIGER LILY ... A couple more obsure ones are really excellent, the FRONT & PLAY IT, SAM.
