Gravatar Woohoo for you, and way to go!!! Well, wait, that sounds too cheery for the tone of your letter. I guess I mean more along the lines of *pat on the back* and something like the football players do to each other before a big play (ah, this Father's Day, we're rewatching a favorite football game that's on DVD...yes, you read that correctly). Hope you are feeling better!

Gravatar very nice.

Gravatar Good for you sfo mom!

Gravatar :::stands on chair and applauds:::

VERY nicely written, Barb! I, too, used to subscribe to WD about 4-5 (?) years ago, but dropped my subscription due to budget-tightening, not really a content issue. So, the shift in tone that you mentioned was something I didn't really see happening -- glad my $$ wasn't going to support that.

An' now that I'm thinking on the subject ... For me, another benefit of dropping the subscription was breaking the subtle influence on my buying habits that WD had. (Exactly what their advertisers were strenuously working towards.) I've never been one to be in constant "must-buy-gotta-have-it" mode, but I was much more open to buying and trying the products they'd mention (usually the body/beauty stuff). When I later realized that effect, it bothered me that I'd gotten "sucked in", even at a small degree.

Gravatar Hey there, just wanted to let you know that reading this has inspired me to also write a letter to Woman's Day... maybe if enough people write in with complaints about it, they'll stop publishing that kind of content. Seems like pro-abortion and pro-contraception attitudes are fairly widespread among most women's 'health' magazines these days (Self Magazine comes to mind as the most blatent example)-- I've had to quit buying them for that very reason.

Gravatar good for you Barb!

Gravatar Good for you. I'm glad to see people standing up for their beliefs. Too many people fall by the wayside and don't bother saying anything.

And alot of people don't know that little tidbit about the pill aborting the egg. I didn't and I've been a nurse for 14 years. Everyone I know IRL and asked didn't know either. That to me is one of medicine's WORST secrets to keep.

Gravatar Woman's Day was sent a copy of this post at the same time as I posted it. I was really sorry to see this happening with this magazine, since at the top of their Contents page there is always a Bible verse. I wish they'd stand by that a little more.
I don't know if I'll even get a response, but at least I put my opinion out there. Someone once told me that for every one person who expresses an opinion, there are 10 others who share it but don't say anything.

Gravatar I haven't subscribed to such magazines for awhile for the same reason. Then my ex-husband's wife subscribed to 'Teen People' for my 11-year old daughter...and it had articles encouraging homosexuality and living with one's boyfriend...and they wonder why kids are so messed up today!!!
