I heard Mermaid's Chair was very weird and that I would be a bit scandalized by it. True? I loved The Secret Life of Bees too. Did you go see the movie?
I thought they did really well with it.

Suzanne, I do think that this book is scandalous. It was weird, and quite disturbing. Very different from The Secret Life of Bees. I was disappointed, since I liked the first book so much.
No, I did not see the movie. Movies based on books drive me nuts, since I spent the whole time I'm watching the movie, comparing it to the book!

Well, that is what I heard too and I cannot imagine why she wrote like that after the first success, but I haven't heard that this one was anything people were very thrilled about, so that is a good thing.
Anyway, sometimes it is interesting to watch some authors grow and change, if you know what I mean.
I guess many of us (as I notice how my writings change sometimes too) grow and move either closer in spiritual life or futher away and the writings certainly can reflect those changes..even just by the tone of them, etc.
Well, I can tell you that the book was better.."Bees," but they really did do well with the movie. Maybe you'll rent it.
