Amen to that...when you find that candidate,I will be
there to support them too. So far, it is not an easy task to choose. Gotta pray for sure.

I honest to Betsy do not have a clue who is getting my vote in May (NC is so late). I also can't say I like any of them on either side much at all.

I know that LDI is endorsing Huckabee. Sadly, it doesn't look like he will be "the" candidate. But, electability shouldn't be a consideration.

I think the voting system is set up differently in Canada. We vote for local canditates and whichever party wins the most local votes becomes prime minister.
I usually vote for a small party the Christian Heritage Party because they have view similar to mine and are pro-life.

No such candidate is left in the coming election.
The man you want dropped out (Sam Brownback), because he had no support -- due to the fact that he is unknown (has never done anything notable) and is colorless (no charisma).
But you are wrong to say that a candidate has to be "anti-death-penalty" to be "pro-life ... across the board." The Catholic Church has always approved of the death penalty "in theory," as we can read in the new Catechism. For many centuries, the Church even carried out the death penalty. In the 1800s, Blessed Pope Pius IX approved of the execution of many murderers in the Papal States (a big chunk of what is now Italy).
The death penalty was not suppressed in the Vatican until after many of us were born (during the pontificate of Paul VI). Unlike abortion and euthanasia, capital punishment is not "intrinsically evil."
Too few Catholics know this fact: What a truly pro-life candidate must do is to be against the death penalty when it is unnecessary or unjust or may be inflicted against the wrong person. The Catechism teaches us -- and we are fobidden to deny it -- that Capital punishment is permitted, according to Catholic moral theology, when necessity, justice, and moral certainty are all present.
However, in our modern world, the existence of true "necessity" to execute murderers is open to serious debate. Recent popes have doubted that "necessity" exists, but they were only expressing their prudential judgment on this, not teaching it as binding. That is why they have never demanded that Catholics, as jurors, must reject the death penalty. Nor have popes ever told Catholic jurors that they have sinned by imposing the death penalty or acting as executioners.
I myself don't want anyone to be executed. (I want criminals to stay alive so that they can earn money to be given to a victim's survivors and so that they have time to be converted and repent.) However, I had to state all of the above information so that we all avoid making the major mistake of thinking that a candidate is being immoral by approving of the death penalty.

AnUnSi, thank you for the info regarding the death penalty. Certainly that's a lot to think about!

I agree, but what are we to do when they are all against what we stand for and know is true from God's law? It is so difficult to trust politicians most of the time...
Check out my blog for surprise.

Barb, this is a very frustrating situation, I don't think I have ever been so confused about who would be the best for the country! We need the Holy Spirit to guide us on this one for sure!! Let's tie our apron strings around each other and pray a heartfelt Hail Mary for November and the country.
