The last thing the internet needs is yet another shouting match about Chavez. In the interest of verständigungorientiertes Handeln, please observe these...

House Rules

  1. "Trolling", defined as posting comments meant to provoke extreme responses or otherwise likely to disrupt the thread, is not acceptable.
Do not troll. Do not respond to trolls. Do not bait trolls.
  2. Libel (a statement of fact that is both false and damaging to reputation) and incitement (a statement that encourages others to commit a crime) are illegal and unacceptable.
  3. Mind your manners. Do not post anything you wouldn't say to someone face-to-face.
Offending comments may - but need not - be deleted at Juan Cristobal and Quico's sole discretion.

Think before you click on "publish".

Gravatar You can tell the ego is talking here. Chavez is so far off the deep end he genuinely considers himself the leader and spokesperson of all Latin America and considers it an insult if told otherwise.

To put it in perspective, imagine Bush being mortally offended and calling Merkel a neo-nazi if she had said "Bush doesn't speak for the Western Hemisphere."

I mean this is just way too cartoonish.

Gravatar La vaina es patológica de perinola.

Gravatar wow. even for these guys, this is just too pathetic.

Gravatar PDVSA owns 50% or four refineries in Germany using Venezuela product. Maybe hugito has Merkel by the bolas.........well, you know, if she had some.

Gravatar thnx to Santiago García for the title...

Gravatar You need to read it in the original:

Ejecutivo Nacional invita al Gobierno de Alemania a privilegiar el respeto
ABN 13/05/2008
Caracas,

Caracas, 13 May.

...

Gravatar I think Merkel or any other woman has more cojones than the Fat Man in the Palace.
Germany can do very well without Venezuela's products. Oil comes mostly from the Middle East or, above all, Russia.

Gravatar It's not as crazy as it sounds. Chavez said (I saw the video) that Merkel called on other Latin American countries to stay away from him. I don't know if Merkel actually said this, but at least Chavez claims she said it. At least he is not saying "how can you say I am not the voice of Latin America."

He is saying "how come you tell other leaders in the region to stay away from me."

The funny thing is that, given Chavez's record, it's very easy to believe the Bloomberg story.

Gravatar That link really is something else, Santiago...

Gravatar Privilegiar el respeto..
wtf...

Gravatar Does anyone have a link to what Merkel actually said then? Did she say what Chavez claims? I mean his reaction is still nutty and over the top no matter what she said. The Communique at least doesn't use scatological references so it just falls within the realm of nerve and gall.

Gravatar For a title how about: Stone Cold Crazy

Gravatar Quico,

This brown is hideous.
Why dont you let Katy re-decorate this place?

Gravatar Hey Quico,

now your president has, in his style of international policy-making by means of verbal roundhouse-kicks, insulted my chancellor! Shame on you Quico! If I still was your housmate I would not give you German products anymore in exchange for your damn Venezuelan cooking oil!
Hope everything is fine in exile...

Gravatar I'm canadian and a long way from what's going on there...But definitively the blue should be the color of your blog....far away from the red....Still waiting for the news of the fifteen....

Gravatar Quico se está haciendo el sueco...

Maybe if we all start calling him "Quiquito lindo" he will yield to our wishes and give Katy the power of choosing the right color for the blog.

It definitely needs a feminine touch.

Gravatar I vote for a different color, let Katy decorate!!!!!

Gravatar 1) Why do you all assume that I would have better taste? Some gender bias you got going there...

2) At any rate, Quico will be gone for a couple of weeks and I have no clue how to re-decorate.

3) Jefe es jefe...

Gravatar Philipp!

It's so funny when my blog life and my real life overlap...doesn't happen so often.

What's up, dawg? How's London? Get mistaken for a Brazilian electrician much on the underground?

Frankly, I dunno what you're getting so upset about here, as I remember it, you used to call Angela Merkel a nazi 5 times before breakfast most days...

Cheers man...

Gravatar Katy,

Actually, before I go on my trip I'm going to "leave you the key" - upgrade your account to "administrator" status so you can do whatever you like with the blog, templatewise. It's fun, the new template tool. You can add little polls and videos and thingamajigs very easily now.

Changing the banner color would not be easy, but if you want to go ahead and play with the link colors, go!

Gravatar Everyone...

I'll be away from Today until May 27th. Mebbe I'll post a thing or two now or then, but for the most part, you won't have Quico to kick around anymore...

Gravatar Maybe they're having a problem with subject/object identification in their sentences. Is it the new Bolivarian education? That's the most logical explanation I can come up with.

Katy, it's not gender bias, just the conclusion that you couldn't possible do worse.

Quico, your absence will do anything but exempt you from the kicking. You just won't notice it as much. Enjoy your time - or is this the crunch period on your dissertation?

Gravatar In the social sciences this is called the illusion of central position.

His is off the charts.

Gravatar Administrator status? Oh goodie. Let's see, here's my task list for the day:

1. Post something.
2. Rename the blog "Oilwars 2".
3. Use Pepto-Bismol pink for the background.
4. Launch "The Urban Sombrero" for mass consumption.

Gravatar Katy,
We can call it vacio de poder...

PS: I'm getting accostumed to the victoria-pirrica brown...I dunno, it's not thaaaat bad...is it?

Gravatar I don't mind it that much either, and it's not "victoria pírrica" brown, it's more like "Toddy" brown.

Gravatar Whatever the color scheme will remain or will become, the odds are pretty good that it will not become "rojo, rojito."

Gravatar Off topic but interesting just the same: should Venezuelans sue Chevron, Shell and the China National Petroleum Corp for receiving "stolen Venezuelan good"?

http://www.cato-unbound.org/2008...n-stolen-goods/

Gravatar Quico my darling that brown looks like you know what to me. Are you telling me you are trying to associate Chavismo with THAT??

:D

Talking about "privilegiar el respeto" after calling a German, not A German but The German chancellor a Nazi,

No shit!!!

Gravatar 2. Rename the blog "Oilwars 2".

That would be a boon to you I know, but we may have to seek legal recourse on that one. Be warned!

Gravatar Katy, did you erase my 'turd' comments?

Jeez--this is the 'turd' time you have done this today.

Cut a Slave a break. LOL

Gravatar Actually, why not use red? It would confuse the 20-neuron lefty into reading the blog automatically.

Trapped!

Perhaps you can even put a Che Guevara picture and a link saying "click here for more cool pictures of Che!"...then when the lefties click on it they get unto a list of the most important crimes committed by Che Guevara together with references.

.
Normal users would just look for content first thing, PSFs would firstly go to the Che pictures and the red like flies go to the shit.

Gravatar No, the Che Guevera link should lead to this:

Gravatar Kepler: ROTFL! Great suggestion.

Gravatar Dear Quico,

I imagine you have seen this response, http://www.cepr.net/index.php/pu...-numbers-right/ , to Francisco Rodriguez, whose work you have praised. It appears that in his attack on CEPR, Rodriguez was wrong on all of his major points, and misquoted the work that he was attacking.

Your own attack, which was much more rude and personal, is also clearly wrong. It was Rodriguez, for example, who was wrong about the income elasticity of poverty reduction, not the work that he was criticizing.

He was wrong in his claim that inequality had increased under Chavez, and he was also wrong in his accusations that the INE had thrown out the poorest households from their data on inequality, and his other main points.

I am surprised that you have not posted CEPR's response and admitted your mistakes. You have been honest about such things in the past, and even noted that Rodriguez had cherry-picked his numbers on inequality.

I assume that you will post this information for your readers, as you have not lost your intellectual integrity.

Gravatar very funny, Kepler!

Gravatar JP, it appears that you missed Rodriguez's rebuttal of the rebuttal. The fact that Weisbrot has yet to respond speaks volumes, at least for those who are willing to listen.
