You mentioned Jeanette Winter--she is a favorite of mine. She's written and illustrated some really wonderful books, some that you might like to share with your son next month, or at a time when you study biographies (particularly of artists and writers). Follow the Drinking Gourd is a wonderful pb about the Underground Railroad. She's also done bios about Bach, Georgia O'Keeffe, Emily Dickinson, Beatrix Potter, and Charles Russell to name a few. She and her son, Jonah Winter, collaborated on an amazing biography about Diego Rivera, definitely worth a read. Many of her books focus on different times and cultures, which your son might really enjoy. Love your blog!
