I enjoyed your post, Chris. I'm kind of ambivalent on classical fantasy (some I love, like "The Golden Compass", but much of it leaves me cold). And I laughed when I read about you almost dropping "The Golden Compass" because of the word "daemon". Anyway, I added this book to my wish list. Thanks!
