Persiani IS a perfect fit, with his bright colors and graphic style, I think will make a handsome book. I'm glad that publishers are opening their doors to computer generated styles like this, assuming he'll use the styles displayed on his online portfolio.
That is annoying indeed, but I wanted to note more that I'm impressed that you have already changed your "about" blurb to reflect the new news. Heck, that'd take me three months! (PS. that's cuz I'm so busy, of course)
So sorry about the delay! It is a crazy business. But who knows, you may well make a new sale any day & have something else out even before that! And congrats on having a great illustrator!
