Hi Chris,
I'm delighted you and your child are enjoying The American Story so much. The book seems to be having exactly the effect I hoped it would, of creating excitement about history for young readers.
Why didn't someone write this book when I was a kid? It was an awful lot of work to write it myself!

I really appreciate the review, Chris. I saw a mention of the book with reference to a "Parade" magazine article on the WTMS group at Yahoo, so I hopped over to Amazon and of course it's not out yet, sigh...

Does it really say that Pocahontas died of smallpox? That's actually wrong; there are no records detailing what she died of, but most historians are in agreement that since the ship she was on had an outbreak of "bloody flux" (hemorrhagic dysentery) that that is probably what killed her.
