Re point #4: Happens all the time. I have a buddy who just went through the same thing, and has had it happen plenty of times before. The editor likes it but the marketers don't, or the individual editor likes it but the ed-in-chief doesn't, or the editors love it but the money folks can't agree that it's worth the $$ that another house thinks it is.

Re point #5: Well, you'll just have to stoke that persistence engine some more and give the jilted editor something *else* to love, right?
