That happened to me once. My family was in town for my daughter's graduation, and we took them to see the bats. And they never came out. My family thought I was exaggerating. I learned later that the best time for bat watching is toward the end of the season, July, August. And that occasionally, they just plain don't come out.

How cool! I'm glad you did get to see the bats. I'll have to put this on my to-do list if I ever make it to Austin. I've seen the bats emerge from Carlsbad Caverns a few times, and that's pretty amazing. (Inexplicably, I'm a fan of bats...dunno why. Just think they're neat.)
