Gravatar As I told you years ago you need to be a sportswriter here in the States. We are starved for literate, cogent articles that actually contribute to the fan experience of the game. I habitually avoid reading my daily fish wrap's worthless articles on the Rays. As late as last week I was informed that they were a surprise team this year. That they had gone from worst to first. That they have a budget of 43 millions or 43 cents or 6 rupees or whatever the hell it is. And did you know that Evan Longoria is a "good player"? Way to earn your pay guys.

Gravatar Don - Shaughnessy is one of the worst culprits as far as lazy/bad sportswriting is concerned (see here if you need more evidence), but your example shows that he's not the only one.

Over the past few years, fans' access to information has increased dramatically, so it's doubly obvious when sportswriters are not using that information to write their articles. Shaughnessy's piece is even worse than that, because he bypassed any kind of information analysis and just came out and predicted that the Sox would win the Series.

You know, if that's the kind of substance the Globe is looking for in its articles, I'll happily write 'em (and still be able to keep the job I already have). Double my income for 2 hours' more work per week!
