It has been good for me to visit Red Sox Nation. To see Sox fans as actual human beings, and no more flawed than the rest of us.
Of course I have always known that, but our local media have tried to make it into "it's us against all those alien invaders".
You guys in the blogs are pretty cool.
And even you all taking over the Trop all those years is ok.
I mean we are a country where our national soccer team cannot find a home field advantage because we do not support our team as we should. As with the Rays it both weakens us in the eyes of the world, but strengthens us inwardly.
It is no small miracle that we can fill the Trop even now when 80 % of us are from "up north". These people all bring their loyalties with them, just as all the nationalities of which our nation consists bring their own tribal identities. We have no "Nation" down here. Hell, we don't even have the majority of baseball fans in the COUNTIES in which we live, let alone "nationhood".
Ownership has made it quite clear to us that if we do not support the team next year it will be moving on. These owners mean to make money and have a strong team. They have done their end of the bargain. We will be a strong team, at least for a few years. This is what we have...here...now...not a nation...just some hope.
