This will always happen as long as most key leadership positions are kept by those whose allegiance to conformity is unquestioned. Once a legisliar is bought and paid for he can be counted on to do the politically correct thing. This frustrates liberals only slightly more than conservatives. The big difference is that conservatives can often use their money advantage to make an end run around the legislatures with initiatives and referendums. That's why there are so many bad initiatives here in Oregon. That's why my attitude is: when in doubt vote no. It takes money to get stuff on the ballot, and someone expects to make money from the passage of bad initiatives. If it's on the ballot it may not be guilty but it's probably not in your best interest to approve it.

Hey Shelby, politics aside for a moment, let's consider just for kicks that marijuana actually has properties in it that saves the lives of certain people. Then let's consider that medical marijuana laws in other states has not correlated with increased use. Did you ever consider that you may be on the wrong side of the fence as I once was? Believe it or not, DPA is not out to get everybody high, they are looking at saving lives and society from a destructive policy and misguided notions that have plagued the populace through misinformation campaigns and ad nauseam. Don't fall for it, educate yourself and join the DPA.
P.S. If you are going to say that someone is lying, and you really want to convince us that you are right, support your arguments that the DPA is lying and perhaps you will gain attention.

Cannabis was probably the first cultivated crop, if not first one of the first. At least a few thousands years ago. Synthetic heroin is a fairly recent discovery. Bayer Pharmaceuticals invented real heroin in the mid 1800's. So is Steiner a liar? How did these poor folks step stone to what wasn't even invented yet?

Gateway? I've smoked pot for 30 years and I've never, ever, had the impulse to snort crushed-up Oxycodone up my nose. My son, now pushing 40, has smoked pot from time to time since high school and he has never snorted crushed-up Oxy up his nose. None of my many long-time pot-smoking friends, decent, hard-working citizens all, have ever snorted crushed-up Oxy. That behavior is way, way strange, even for HARD drug users.
I was given Oxycodone by prescription after a small surgery a couple of years ago. I took one pill, by mouth, as directed, and it made me sick as a dog for 24 hours. That's some nasty shit. I'll never touch that shit again. Why anyone would snort that crap up their nose is beyond my comprehension. You don't do that for pleasure. You don't do that for enlightenment. You don't do that for a "social lubricant". You do that as a desperate attempt to extinguish pain. Sounds like a lot of pain there, imo.
Why was that young man in so much pain? Is it possible that he felt utter and unfair disdain from his own father, for smoking pot, and felt powerless to overcome the resultant estrangement?
Maybe it had something to do with having the type of man for a father who, in response to his own pain, wearing the armor of his own tragedy, would travel across the country, on someone else's hefty dime, to inflict pain on total strangers who are already safely, but unfairly , marginalized?
Well, whatever the case, Mr. Steiner made drug dealers across New Mexico very happy. Congratulations, Mr. Steiner!

Maybe you answer your own question, Disgusted Vet, as a long-term drug user with a child. Sounds like Steiner, in a way.
But how would your child be any different from one that grew up with parents that didn't use drugs? Would the stigma be different, if there were any at all? What kinds of guilt would these two types of youths be feeling, who had such different kinds of parents? Would snorting crushed-up pills be viewed as unusual by a child who saw his parents smoking through unusual devices like bongs or crack pipes, who may have seen them use syringes? Which type of child would be trying to gain acceptance from his parents, one who tries to find a new way to ingest drugs, or one who becomes a paid informant?
Ostracization can be difficult for a person, sometimes unbearable for a child. For people who lobby for laws that affect the entire state, you show little sympathy for those whose lifestyles differ from yours so very slightly. At times you sound as prejudiced as those people who preceded you, the people that used to be called "pigs." Is this a new generation of pigs? Is there a new pig movement that needs to be addressed? Who exactly is the odd man out here?
From the people that brough us 420 registration and Prop 36, a proposition for the Millenium Children and no one else. Study the failures of the past and take no action upon them, see how your society goes. There's but one road for you, your destiny follows a well-worn path.
