To the People

Notice also that despite the slack we give law enforcement officers because of "the dangerous job they do", they're not even in the top 10.

The focus on the health of bar workers is a canard and a tactic of the smoke-free movement. If bar tenders were indeed dropping dead from second-hand smoke wouldn't the smoke-free activists be publicizing this mercilessly? Not one example, is there? Hmm...

And Baylen is right that if the smoke-free movement really were motivated by saving workers' lives, and not just by eliminating something they don't personally like, then they would be focusing on truly dangerous occupations. Save the garbage workers now!

The pro-ban crowd will find a way to spin this. They always do. Something about how ETS takes years and years to do the damage, unlike a big falling tree, which can kill a logger instantly...thus, ETS isn't directly linked to on-the-job deaths of workers on a yearly basis. Anyway, that's the devil's advocate. Problem is, it doesn't matter. As Leonardo pointed out, it's a canard anyway. Just look at the comment threads at BantheBan. Their entire argument rests on bullshit.
