To the People

I didn't realize that JetBlue had live coverage available on its monitors. I recall having to watch four hours of the DIY channel on my last trip to LA and longing for the old-fashioned "show a movie for three dollars" routine. But perhaps the airplane wine and the screaming child next to me drove me into a state of monitor incompetence.

I followed the scene as well. I found myself wondering early on if I wanted to stay tuned in to watch it land. If te worst happened I didn't think it would be pleaseant to watch it all unfold. Voyeuristic, I suppose. Once it became apparent that there was a high probability of a safe landing I was okay with watching the conclusion.

I thought another passenger, an NBC Universal employee interviewed afterwards, said they left the tv's on till right before the final approach. Right thing to do if that's the case. Passengers deserve as much information as possible, but when it comes down to crunch time your job is to duck, cover and generally do what the nice lady tells you (unless it's something obviously stupid).

Very impressed by the pilot's performance. One passenger described it as the smoothest landing he's ever felt, though that may have been hyperbole resulting from relief. I bet everyone on board offered to buy the captain a drink.
