To the People

Another Bush crony...

In hosting an "Ask the White House" interactive forum on the Internet before the 2004 elections, Miers lavished praise on a litany of Bush administration initiatives, then added, "I could go on and on."

One wonders whether or not Bush was duped by Senate Democrats, some of whom pointed to her as someone without bench experience as a possible "consensus" nominee.

Given her lack of judicial credentials, the ABA is unlikely to view her as "well-qualified" and maybe not even "qualified."

The lack of a paper trail seems to be the best thing going for her, beyond personal fealty to W.

If she really thinks that he is "the most brilliant man she's ever met," that demonstrates either dangerous penchant for hyperbole or a wanton lack of critical judgment.

She was Bush's personal lawyer at one point??? This guy needs to give everyone a break with his blatant game of elevating old chums to high official positions. It is insulting.

At least he didn't nominate Mike Brown.

Interesting that Bush picked someone who looks like a young Helen Thomas.

Speaking of Helen Thomas and off topic a bit, I saw her last week right near the WH. We crossed 17th Street side by side...I felt inclined to say something, anything, simply because I felt I was somehow close to history. However, instead, I said nothing and just smiled at how tiny she was in person.

Oh, when I was a Beltway denizen wannabe back in '97, I passed by her with Brit pal of mine and said a heartfelt "Hello, Ms. Thomas!"

I think she was happy that someone under the age of 30 was so enthusiastic about saying hello to her -- and in the rain, too.
